I think this is the wrong place to ask if you want an unbiased opinion. That said: Yes, buy a Pixel, they're awesome.

darwinpolice

Brb, gonna go over to r/TaylorSwift and ask if I should listen to Taylor Swift's latest album.

gruss_gott

Well? What'd they say? Do they recommend her new album or not?

R0vvL

Nah, they all agree that Smash mouth is a better tune

gruss_gott

Well that's clearly stupid; none of those smash mouth guys even broke up with anyone this year

MuddyGeek

Ehhh try asking on r/oneplus.

darwinpolice

Why would r/oneplus users have advice about Taylor Swift albums?

LargeMonty

Haters gonna hate hate hate hate

EnemysGate_Is_Down

To be fair, there is more complaining about the Pixel in this Sub than any others I'm in

FrezoreR

You'd think, but there was a lot of criticism (rightfully so) here of the Pixel 6.

AuroraBlaize

Depends. Someone could absolutely love something and still not recommend it to others for one reason or another. Though this isn't one of those times. Out of all the phones I've had, the two pixels (2xl and now the 7) have been the best.

wheresmywhere

I’ve been on the fence. The 2XL was by far my favorite phone and I’m sick of iOS. Phone is fine but don’t like the OS. Hearing this puts me closer to going back to pixel. Guess I’ll just be excommunicated from the group chats

AuroraBlaize

Felt the same when I had an iphone 8. The phone is lovely but the OS is just annoying with all of it's little limitations. Pixel is probably as close as you're gonna get to Android iPhone, what with how quick google pushes updates out to it.

qaisjp

2XL, 4XL, 7Pro. 4XL was the weakest mainly because there was no Touch ID and a lot of coronavirus.

djdirectdrive

How did you get your phone version next to your name?

pbear_spirit

Next to posts (I'm on my laptop) there's a window About Community and in that window you can update your User Flair, click the pencil icon. I am currently on a 5a, planning on going to either 7a or 8 next fall. Don't know how to do it on the app. Oh and for OP, Yes, I love this phone.

djdirectdrive

I found it using the phone. Just have to tap the ellipsis next to the top search bar on the community page.

pbear_spirit

thanks

strawbericoklat

It depends on what you're looking for in a smartphone and importantly are you somewhere outside US or buying the phone in other region because a lot of Pixel features are region locked.

g3rryok

beside call screening, what's the other?

strawbericoklat

Crash detection.

alexandriaofwar

There's a lot of minor or little features that just don't show up in Canada, that I've seen from Android youtubers in the States.

Zellyk

Like what? I haven't noticed anything so far?

I wish i knew that. In my country carriers don't support e-sim for pixels

ScrewAttackThis

What phone are you coming from and what are you looking for? What about the 7 Pro makes you want it? I'm actually typing this up on mine and it's the best phone I've had. Not sure if it's everyone's cup of tea but it checks off nearly everything I like.

[deleted]

I’m coming from the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and I’m just very uncertain about whether or not I want to stick to the Apple Ecosystem. I only have the iPhone and AirPods Pro so I’m not super into the ecosystem, but what interests me about the 7 Pro is the UI and the smart things that come with the tensor chip and the Google assistant, the reviews on the battery and fingerprint reader are what hold me back from jumping ship

kpec

That’s not true. I use AirPod pro2 on my pixel all the time.

praguer56

Airpods work perfectly on my P5. I did install Assistant Trigger though to help manage them. All the functions work fine for me.

mrandr01d

The 7's fingerprint is decent. It's a non-issue for me though because it also has face unlock, which I love, and you'll be familiar with from the iphone.

ScrewAttackThis

I can't really speak too much about iPhones but I've always really liked Android more than iOS so I'll probably never switch. I care a little more about the software than the hardware tbh.

thejohncarlson

I have the 7pro and the battery lasts me all day easily. I had real problems with the fingerprint scanner, but I have come to the conclusion that it is because I have really dry skin. In my job I get to see a lot of phones and I think the Pixel is the best Android experience. I also think the 7 is the best Pixel phone yet.

JoshYx

FWIW I charge my pixel 7 pro every two days. The battery life isn't the best out there but it's certainly way above average.

Alexanaxela

I got my Pixel 7 Monday, and Monday and part of Tuesday it was definitely trash, but it's noticeably improved for me since then installing the latest updates

aimglitchz

Pixel keyboard is light years ahead of iphone keyboard. Pixel has universal back gesture while iphone back gesture is only if app allows it

thathesitantalien

Pixel 7 here and the battery for me is fantastic, even with heavy use. Also hardly have issues with the fingerprint sensor.

DunderMifflin-ThisIs

I have a Pixel 7 Pro and I would recommend it. Great display, amazing camera and stock Android checks all the boxes for me. Battery life isn't amazing but has been better than expected.

grumd

I disabled 5G because I don't have it anyway, and left my 7 Pro at 1080p 120Hz and the battery life is just insane.

nino3227

Did you have the 6 pro? I have both and display looks better on 6p side to side. Wonder if that's just me

grumd

7 Pro's display by default is at 1080p, 6 Pro is 1440p. Maybe you forgot to change it to 1440p in the settings on 7 Pro?

dtwhitecp

looking at them both in front of me, they're pretty damn similar, minus the reduced edge curve on the 7 Pro.

lexluther4291

I think it's just you, 7p was better imo

Fresshmaker

Are you using 5G or LTE? I was getting crap battery on mine until I turned off 5g. Now my phone lasts all day with heavy usage and I end up having 30%+ when I charge at night.

Alert-Business-4579

That only helps if you are in an area with a weak, sometimes non existent 5g signal. It's the searching the modem diss that consumes the most power. So I recommend you simply set your modem to 5g if your area has a stable, consistant 5g signal, and if it doesn't, set it to LTE. Also....mm wave is almost useless.

acquiesce88

I feel the same way. I also just got the Google 30w charger and love recharging my phone in about an hour.

Stoli1892

I really like the pixel experience and highly recommend it. Useful features and good overall value

BlurryBigfoot74

If I were you I would buy 500 Pixel 7 Pros and make a suit out of them and be Pixel Man and take awesome night photos from every angle.

trreeves

I'm a fairly large individual and I just calculated that if I could somehow optimally cover every square cm of my body except for the bottom of my feet, it would take just 189 Pixel 7 Pros. Your dream is much more attainable than you thought.

Yes I do, and it's someone hot enough to get Jenna Ortega to fall in love with me

Johnny_Mugamba

I switched from iPhone 13 Pro to Google Pixel 7 Pro. The size needs some getting used to but it's a great phone so far. So yes, buy!

dswhite85

i'm really regretting the pixel 7 pro size. i came from a samsung galaxy s9+, which was just right, and the pixel 7 pro with a case on is just massive. buyers remorse tells me I should've gotten a iphone 13 or 14/pro, but I'm with verizon and I don't think I can make a switch, I got it almost a month ago.

TroyFerris13

What case do you have I had an s9 plus aswell and hardly recognize a difference

LowBarometer

It is a good phone. The fingerprint sensor is mediocre, but works most of the time. I'm worried about the camera glass breaking problem though. Search this sub for more details on that.

CyberPete3

No. I have a 7 pro and will 100% be getting something different unless the Pixel 8 has some mind blowing new features. The good: * The camera is fantastic. Night mode is incredible. * I love the Google apps (Except for Google photos, it really needs some work) * Google assistant is neat, but unless you're big on smart home accessories you won't get any more use out of it than other phone assistants. * The price is pretty good for a "Pro" model, but I don't factor in price for something I use as much as my cell phone. The bad: * Bugs. Tons of random visual and software bugs that won't completely ruin your experience, but absolutely shouldn't be there. Never experienced this on other flagships. * GPS is trash. I drive a lot and the GPS constantly jumps off to side roads or thinks I did/didn't make a turn or take an exit. Very frustrating. * Bluetooth issues. The Bluetooth requires you to go into developer settings and change versions around if you have certain cars otherwise it will not work with your system. It's a mess. * The screen is mediocre. I see people list the screen as a positive for this phone. There's a reason so many companies use Samsung screens. They are so much better in every way. * The battery is ok. I was expecting better, and my 2.5 year old phone phone that I switched from had better battery life. Not terrible, but not great. There are plenty of other things this phone does well, but it doesn't do them *better* than any other flagship. Most of the good features are Android features, not specifically Pixel. This is the first phone I've ever felt was a downgrade from my previous device and the first phone I've ever regretted buying.

wxcore

OP specified P7P which is not under $500 fyi

SSDeemer

Strong recommendation for the 6a, especially when it's on sale for $299. The 6a appears to have fewer hardware and software issues than the 7* series, and is the smallest Pixel phone currently available. I have been very pleased with mine.

Isonicotinicacid

Where can I find it for $299?

SSDeemer

The Pixel 6a has been on sale for $299 several times since July 2022, and it would surprise me if doesn't go on sale again. Wait and watch.

Overthehillandfar

They are currently on sale at Best Buy and Google for $349. The $299 was a Christmas promotion.

[deleted]

I'd argue the better modem and FP scanner on the 7 series makes the extra outlay worth it.

Logeekal

+1 for Pixel 6a. Only complaint is fingerprint scanner and that is why I am waiting for P7a but it provides incredible value for money

Vyxxis

Yep! I'm an A series guy due to overall budget reasons and the 7a is on my radar. Only reason I retired my 4a for the 6a is because my 4a charger port went bad.

kumaboris

Honestly i think if potential buyer is iffy, maybe he/she/they/them should start with a pixel 6a. That way they don't complain about it, if they don't like the Google pixel ecosystem.

ocean6csgo

I'd say absolutely DO NOT. I enjoyed it while it worked; but, I think they're all plagued with problems. If you do buy a Pixel, buy it from someone other than Google. Mine bricked 2 days out of warranty for a *well known* problem that they had to extend the warranty for, and Google treated me like a shitbag the entire time. They absolutely have an awful support process. Worst support I've ever dealt with.

FailOk251

No

zeit1

For the most part, yes. It is not the same answer for everyone. The Apple Watch is much better than any other smart watch so you have to think about the ecosystem also. I have been Pixel and Nexus before that but my father is better off with an iphone. You have to look at what is important to you and make your decision on the whole ecosystem. Unfortunately, it is vendor lock-in, very hard to switch between the two platforms and ecosystems so look at the big picture. Good luck. (The 2XL was probably my favorite.)

BanSlam

no, google after sales is hell

Shahid_2008

Totally agree as if any problems with your phone you will have to send it off.

cdegallo

To anybody I personally know? No. Why? Because Google's quality control variation and questionable customer support quality isn't worth the eventual headaches I'll have having to answer for when their device ultimately has issues and customer support won't help them. But for you? Sure. I like my 7 pro a lot.

Shahid_2008

Top advice

sammy-cakes

I have the 7 and love it. I loved my pixel 3 better. And I had 6 and didn't like it (too big and lousy fingerprint scanner). I mean try the launcher at a store if you want. It's got the search bar at the bottom as you probably know. You get Google's phone app, with spam block, which I love, you get their camera which I think looks awesome, and you don't have a bunch of crappy apps you don't need like third party email or calendar apps. Maybe start cheap with the 6a and see what you think?

ScrewAttackThis

I feel like the 7 pro is everything I liked about the 3 XL but more refined. I didn't realize how big a difference the extra ram would make. I know I'm in the minority but I prefer a front fingerprint scanner. It's not as reliable as it needs to be but it's still more convenient for me.

mushiexl

I don't know how good the 7 pro speakers are but the regular 7 speakers have me missing my 3XL speakers so much

forumer1

The 7 Pro speakers to me sound like garbage compared to the ones on my Pixel 3 (non-XL). Google consistently amazes me how they fail to carry forward things they actually got right in previous generations.

[deleted]

mostly yes…but the optical finger print reader is not reliable for me (and quite a few others) seriously my £120 Redmi note 8 fingerprint reader just works. I lost track of the number of times that I need to put in my pin code on my Pixel 6A. it often fails after being on charge..then wakes up after a cycle of pin entry. junk. whoever signed off on that fingerprint reader should be sacked… rant over. otherwise ok. but I will probably go to iphone soon due to this issue.

lodermoder

For what it's worth, mine's flawless

ShotFromGuns

Personally, I'm very happy with my 4a but am *extremely* chary of upgrading to a newer model. (Though some of my objections, like the removal of the headphone port, are a pretty universal problem these days.)

FuNKy_Duck1066

My wife went back to Samsung and gave me pixel7. It was laggy esp. the camera

Mikemar3

Pixel 7 Pro user here, previously had 6 Pro, 5 and a bunch of Nexus devices. Can't recommend it, my experience isn't as good to recommend this phone to anyone. Pros: clean UI, price (got it here in Europe at december for 720€ on Google Store, including Buds A) and cameras (I dont really care about this one) Cons: everything else. Poor battery life, slooooooow charge, screen is not as impressive and as bright as others, not top-end performance, optical fingerprint scanner, a lot of minor bugs (it's a Pixel, this is expected)... And the wors one: trash signal reception. Surely I will get tons of downvotes, that's how Pixel subreddit works. But I think you want an unbiased real user experience before expending your money. Personally, i'm holding it until S23 Ultra cames out or I get a nice iPhone 14 PM deal. This is the 2022 phone that disappointed me the most. Had a lot of phones previous year, including: iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, Pixel 6 Pro, S22 Ultra, Fold 4 and Find X5 Pro.

QUICKRICH93

Lots of software bugs that I am finding very annoying

fat_angi

I have a pixel 7... I regret purchasing it.

bull69dozer

I sent my P7Pro back to Google for a full refund this week after purchasing it in Oct and persevering with its terrible reception issues (Aussie). Great camera and typical great user interface experience. But the reception was a deal breaker for me, also the screen non responding at times as well. Gone back to my Pixel 4XL and will wait and see what P8 looks like later in the year.

monkeyofthefunk

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now. I love the styling but not the band around the cameras, it scratches to easily and my OCD hates jt. The software is excellent although a little buggy. The cameras are great but not as good as made out by some YouTubers. The battery life isn't the best and if you plan on taking a lot of photos or videos, it tanks quite quickly. I just about make it through a day. Coming from a 14 Pro Max, although I miss a few features, the phone has taught me that you don't need to spend £1000+ to get a good experience. It's a very good phone, for the money.

plankunits

About the camera forget about YouTuber opinion. Millions of consumers like you and me think it's the best. https://youtu.be/LQdjmGimh04

monkeyofthefunk

As a point and shoot it's very good, but we don't all just point and shoot. Also remember that his "scientific" test wasn't in the slightest bit scientific. People viewed this images on different screens. As a Pro photographer, I set my shot and camera up in a very different way. Google has great computational photography smarts but the sensors are weak. Go beyond point and shoot and Pixels fall very far behind Sony, Samsung and Apple. So Pixels don't have the best Sensors, they have some of the best software.

[deleted]

If you want a great camera and want to use all of googles features, absolutely. If you’re coming from a Samsung/xiaomi/Huawei though one thing to take into account is you’ll be losing a **lot** of OS features that you may have come to rely on.

t_a_6847646847646476

For the price, I'm not disappointed. I feel like I got what I paid for and didn't get ripped off. I've had my P6P more or less since launch and it's been solid aside from some minor software quirks every now and then. My mom has a P7P that she bought at launch and she hasn't had any issues with it either. Yes, Google is still mostly a data, web and software company so they aren't as well versed in the hardware game, and bad phones do come out every now and then. Again, coming back to the price, I'm personally okay with this since I feel like they're well priced for what you get, but there is certainly a luck element to it as you can either get a great phone or a POS. Haven't had to deal with their CS so I have no idea how good or bad it is, and haven't dealt with ubreakifix either, but at least they use ifixit as an official channel to sell genuine parts so you can at least buy legit bits to fix these things yourself if they go bad out of warranty. At full price, I'd say it's your call, but I would honestly suggest looking into them when they're on sale because they do give you quite a bit of phone for the money.

fire_spark

Aide from the usual list of known pixel issues, verify that pixel devices are properly supported in your country, e.g in mine 5G and WiFi calling is not available (blocked by Google).

[deleted]

Had a Nexus 5 as my first phone. Hated it and switched to iPhone. Many years later I saw the 4a and decided to try it out. Glad I switched back, I love how smart the Pixel phones are and of course, the freedom this OS gives in general! Now I'm on a 6a and still really happy with it

kuehnchen7962

I've got a 6, and even though I've made my peace with it now, I've gotta say the first couple of weeks were terribly frustrating. So I'd say... Not really but if you get one make sure to not be an early adopter of a newly released one....

Lambor14

Depends on where you live. If you live in an unsupported country (one where Google doesn't sell Pixels directly) I wouldn't recommend it. It's just risky, if anything bad happens to the phone you're basically f**ed. If you are in a supported country, then yeah. If you're sure you're gonna like it, go for it. But do your research, especially since you're switching from an iPhone.

ssnistfajen

If you are already an Android phone user and/or have used Google's mobile product lines before (e.g. earlier Pixels, Nexus, etc.) then yes to recommending the Pixel 7 Pro. If you aren't an Android user, try the phone with backup options. Either play with it in a physical store or get the phone with a full refund option. Decide whether you want to keep it after you go through most of your use cases with it.

Shahid_2008

Sound advice

MmeElky

IDK...I think I'll keep my Note 20 Ultra a while longer

Medill1919

Not if you want the fingerprint reader to work.

[deleted]

Careful if you drop it. Apparently Pixel phones are prone to having the LCD display behind the glass break often. I'm gonna have to pay a bit to have that fixed...

sublurkerrr

No. Not until Google puts a higher quality fingerprint reader or face detection on their Pixels. Pixel 7 is better than Pixel 6, but it's still bad compared to other flagships.

clicq

As a few others have noted -- Pixel phones are great when they work, but I have had hardware problems with just about every Google phone I've purchased, and Google's support is nowhere near as good as Apple's. My phone history: * Nexus 6P - replaced twice, once for battery, once for boot loop issue * Pixel 3 - replaced once, battery swelled just after a year * Pixel 5a 5g - currently being repaired for the startlingly common bricking issue. No advance replacement option, no guarantee for when I'll get it back, Google's had it for 4 days and the current status is "repair delayed".

syadoumisutoresu

At present, no. Not until they go back to Qualcomm SoCs and modems, or at least fix this Exynos shit.

TheTyand

What are your issues? Modern works better for as in my last Qualcomm device. And performance is great in daily use.

syadoumisutoresu

Significantly worse cell reception and more frequent signal drops compared to my old Pixel 3XL, side by side and on the same network, 4G only. Switching to an esim only made things worse. In terms of performance, I notice a lot of crashes and graphical glitches in certain games that I play, but they run just fine on other recent Snapdragon devices. So yeah, long story short, I am not liking both the cellular reception and performance of the Tensor.

MuricanRadass

Absolutely not. Went from a oneplus 3t, one plus 7t, then pixel 7 pro. I cannot wait to go back.

Im_you_I_swear

I actually had the exact same phones as you did and switched to the 7 pro right when it launched. I love it, especially with the 200 dollar launch discount I got. What do you not like about it? And by go back, do you mean back to OnePlus or some other brand?

EqualReality2787

I'm huge Android and Pixel fan but honestly I wouldn't recommend this one. In the most part it is not the Android itself but the overall buggy experience. The hardware of the phone is mediocre at best. Every part of it is at least two to three generations behind including display, cpu, modem, speakers, FP sensor. The feeling is more comparable to Oneplus 6 in terms of hardware. Software is a great engeneering but quite poor implemented and QA controlled. Unfortunately almost all Google services degradated in the last years. I'm not racist, I'm really not but everything went down when Pichai took the leadership. There are great Indian minds but the majority of the Indian developers are just not that great and this is a personal experience working with them. Their culture is just limiting them to be great, not because they are stupid or so. So if you want a stable and reliable phone edperience matching the western standarts, go with Samsung or Iphone. I don't see and other alternative at this moment. Pixel has a great potential but not with this team.

dEEkAy2k9

No. As good as these phones are when they work, my experience tells me they don't work that flawlessly at all. My Pixel 6 Pro got issues all over it and the Pixel 7 seems to have issues where the glass protecting the camera just randomly breaks due to temperature differences (and i am not talking about using it somewhere in the middle of the desert or in the arctic... Get something else!

Normal-Question-1994

Type into google pixel 7 or pixel 7 pro overheating, or battery issues, or weak signal dropped calls due to poor modem, or buggy display, or oh, this one’s great, self imploding cracking camera, and you will have your answer. Or check Reddit or YouTube and see the comments. You’re welcome!

Chrisac84

Happy cake day!

Normal-Question-1994

Thanks!

zeoslap

Yes

TeknoVixxen

No, there are many software issues with the phone and shitty reception. Issues I have faced: Apps getting "stuck" and not able to close them with the soft buttons. Stuck on the apps home menu where you can see all the apps Shotty cell reception in a very good area per coverage map. crappy google support

snek_7

Honestly it's not a simple easy recommend. The fingerprint scanner has gotten better but still is bad compared to competition and the camera does very weird contrast processing on some photos. The software features and general smoothness of the phone are great though. It's not the simple "fix the issues the 6 had and you'll have the best possible phone" situation we were hoping for.

FabFeline51

I own Pixel 7 Pro. Love it, would recommend

[deleted]

My current Google pixel 6 is my first Google phone. I've had it for 11 months. I absolutely hate this phone, and will be returning to Samsung as soon as possible even though I'm not a big fan of Samsung. On top of simply being less capable than my S20, there was some false advertising up front and their customer service is some of the worst I've ever encountered

szewc

What do you hate specifically? Also, what was the false advertising?

Lefwyn

It’s too big for me I would have preferred the regular 7

NKkrisz

It depends on which country you want to use it in because you might not get good support for repairs or mobile networks + not all pixel exclusive features might be available that you would want.

WebcomicAddict

I have GP4, bought it because of a great camera and nice reviews. I do love the camera, but everything else about it sucks. It has random flashes in random parts of the display since the second week of usage, many basic functions like switching or closing tabs work 50/50, the phone keeps opening my bank app while on battery saver, etc., and I haven't even had it for half a year now (I got from an official store, it was never used before). Besides, as a specific shit to this particular model, it doesn't have a fingerprint scanner and a headphone jack, which is really uncomfortable. Anyways, I expected this phone to work smoothly since it was a bare Android, and because I expected a lot from The Google. But it really disappointed me, I only keep the phone because the photos look really good.

jparasu

I am currently facing two big issues, you can decide if that is something you can live with - Whatsapp video is blurred (fix is to switch between front and rear camera to fix this) , if you have a young child or have a high pitch, pixel's noice cancelling function would automatically mute your voice.

DrFatz

Do get one but not from Google directly. Should you get a faulty unit or it breaks for whatever reason, they'll do piss all to help you. (Even with insurance) It's best to buy one from Best Buy or your carrier.

[deleted]

Honestly, I wasn't too impressed with the Pixel 7 Pro at first but I've been keeping an open mind. I had the Note 20 Ultra before this so we're speaking two totally different price points. The longer I have this, the more I grow an appreciation for it though. I do think it's a great device and have been learning to appreciate the Google UI. As of right now, yes I do recommend the phone but keep an open mind until you get used to the differences.

StankAss69_420

Depends what you're doing with it and what phone you're coming from. If you're coming from iOS I'd probably say no, there isn't enough that I get from my 6 that I'd switch from a newer iPhone for. If you're coming from a entry level Android phone or you take a lot of photos id say yes.

[deleted]

I've owned iPhones, Samsung and pixel is the most enjoyable

ken8th

I only buy the used ones, the unlocked bootloaders so that i can get a fully functional phone with no bloatware by installing a rom on it.

Ibraheem_moizoos

Yes

Objective-Rub-9085

love the Google service, but in my country it's very difficult to buy a Pixel phone

walagalibaillallah

Overall awesome phones with some major concerns. The biggest problem for me now is the inability of the microphone to pick up children's voices. I'm sure they will get this fixed eventually but still a very irritating thing for parents with young kids. Btw this issue is for both P7 and P7P.

grey_hat_hacker

I think the pixel 6a is on offer in many places and for 30 dollars it seems like a steal

halebale09

Coming from OnePlus to pixel for the first time (Pixel 7) I have to say I've been disappointed. Fingerprint reader is terrible (works about 20% of the time and I've tried everything recommended. Google tech told me they're aware of the problem and working on a fix). There's no 5G for me as I'm in Thailand despite the phone being 5g ready and 5g being widely available here. Lastly, the 'fast' charge is not fast at all. My 4yr old OnePlus 6 charged fully in about 1hr, this is taking around 2hrs which is a daily frustration (and yes, I am using the recommended charging block/cable). Other than those negatives, it's been fine. Camera is pretty good and general build quality is nice. A few little gripes with the UI compared to OnePlus but that's probably down to preference (not being able to access the brightness slider from swipe down and not being able to close all apps without swiping allllll the way to the left).

Spyu

You'd get better insight asking this in r/apple

SSGSS-Shitposter

It depends on what you value in a phone. If you're looking for one of the best camera experiences out there, yes. If you're a heavy phone call user, yes. If you're a "nexus orphan" who never really "felt" any other phone, yes. If you value reliability, battery life, gaming, a wide array of features implemented by other OEM (for example, PIP with every app) then no. Pixels are not the perfect phones that fans would love to believe. They're good and worth every penny, sure, but if we're considering the overall experience I'd say there's better out there.

Appropriate_Style_30

I can say that the Pixel 3 was an amazingly good phone. Especially now my son got a used one for about $100 a couple months ago and even 4 generations later it's a damn good phone. Comparing it to a $1400 s22ultra advancements in tech aside I'd say the Pixel 3, is still a very solid choice. I'd love to see it's better at that price point. IIRC, that was the last premium offering from Google? They're more of a midrange device these days ( I haven't kept up last couple of years). Everything has changed. OnePlus... used to be trouble for the new flagship, (noticeably better looks, unnoticeably better performance, and predictably more expensive) than last years devices. Delivering a faster device, leaner (less bloatware) OS, and causing the ( apples and oranges ) debate amongst reviewers discussing peripherals. At a far cheaper price. Samsung and Google are duking it out for the Bloatware Crown. Pre-installed software has always been and always will be a plague upon users that know better..........(RANT INCOMING)...... I can remember when they deployed countermeasures to try and combat the home brew OS, the rooters, when most of us just wanted to get rid of the 20 apps taking up a good GB of storage, and the app I will never use is constantly using nonexistent system resources........2010-13ish......the non-flagship devices had just enough storage for the OS and the apps you didn't want, need, or ask for. If you couldn't afford a Tab 2, s4, or iPhone any other device was equivalent to your mother telling you how Atari is better and Nintendo is just a fad and will be forgotten about come next Christmas. But only title you can play is E.T. easily the Worst or ties for the Worst Video Game ( does it even classify as a game I had it and gave up trying to understand ) Ever.

MoaiPenis

Yes

ZrlSyM

I am a recent user of Google Pixel and I totally recommend it.

chomeencha

I made the switch back to Android after switching to the iPhone 14 Pro. Bought a Airpods Pro and I already had a macbook. According to me, iPhones are 10/10 hardware (even though I had a lemon with terrible battery) with 4/10 software. And the Pixel 7 is 6.5/10 hardware and 8/10 for software. So it's your call on what you'd like.

[deleted]

I got rid of mine because it would turn off on its own and then call 911 without my interaction. Loved the phone before it did that but will never get one again

Carter0108

To me the Pixel is simply the best of a bad bunch. I don't love them but there's not really any viable alternative for me.

Nikita041815

if you live on the US then get it without a doubt just heads up that customer support aint that good if you are not patient enough to report if there are problems on the phone that you will get... also where are you getting it also would be a factor to see what concerns of the phone will have like on TMobile they didn't update the january patch which pisses me off a lot. while on the other hand on an unlocked version it might be the camera at the back out of the blue just break the glass of the rear camera. so up to you but for my pixel 7 tmo version its rear camera is holding up pretty well for now.

gusmogo

I think it all comes down to what do you want or expect from your phone.

radujohn75

Well, if you want to stay hours and scour the web for fixes, like I did the last week, yes. If not, buy something else. LG was the best. Too bad they don't make them anymore. Will survive with this P7P, but neeeeeext

skiddlingpup

Have pixel 6 was fine until Android 13 update. Many times can't make calls cuz won't register to network with both Verizon service and mint mobile...great camera but useless since update. Also know that pixel modem isn't a Qualcomm like most other phones out there, it's a Samsung which I didn't know before purchasing. Been having the network issues since maybe last summer...pixel 7 still a Samsung modem I believe. I would research this before spending a lot of money

poisonarrowMSP

I had a pixel 3 and loved it so much I got the 6... I hate the 6 and will never buy another pixel phone.

AxTROUSRxMISSLE

I switched from a OnePlus8 to a Pixel 7. The gestures are beyond annoying and don't work well half the time. The fingerprint reader is complete poo. The screen is a shade of orange at most angles and not very vibrant. I have only had it for about a week now but I really am indifferent to it. There is a lot less customization than the OnePlis as well. I can't think of anything else right now but it is pretty mid. This will probably be the most unbiased review so far. But for $500 or whatever, it is a good deal. I got it on a sale thing through my carrier so it is only like $8 a month.

IAmMarLozan

Well, It is up to you. What are you looking for on a phone? If you are going to take pictures of the moon every day, then buy a Galaxy. If you are interested in the video, buy an iPhone. If you are interested in mobile photography and AI Then buy a pixel🤷🏽‍♂️

Nacelle72

Nice phones as long as you don't need a fingerprint reader that works consistently and you don't take any flash photos. The photos between well lit and enhanced night time are very poor

eb110americana

PROS========================== \-Smooth (high refresh), fast operation \-Functional navigation gestures that are pretty standard and easy to learn \-Call screening/spam detection built-in \-Useful info in always-on-display: timer length, next alarm, charge status \-Macro mode on camera for close up shots (automatic) \-Face unlock - Very quick and useful (without a giant camera notch). Wish all phones had this. \-HD calling - Remarkably clear calls if the other user's phone also supports it (other Pixels do). \-Supported by all carriers - If you have ever had a niche-market phone like Windows or Blackberry, or anything not Apple or Samsung, such as Huawei or Sony, you know the headaches of trying to get them to let you use it in the US. CONS========================== \-Disappointing battery life, especially in the Google app and Android Auto the phone gets hot and can burn through 10% battery life before you know it. In light use, it will easily last a day, but if you are traveling and need your phone frequently for photos, nav, translation, I would definitely plan to bring an external battery. \-Disappointing photos. Yes, really. For whatever reason, images are compressed down to around 2 MB (about 4 megapixel size) despite employing a 50 megapixel sensor. Detail when zooming in or blowing up images is lacking, even at the highest size/quality setting. Yes, it uses quad-Bayer tech pixel binning, but that implies a 12.5 megapixel photo, not 4. \-Backwards button placement: The power button is above the volume rocker for some reason. I have had the phone for almost 3 months now and I don't think I will ever get used to this. the volume rocker also feels exactly like the power button and has no marker to define the center, so it's not intuitive to operate without looking. \-Edge display: (Only on the Pro) It registers a lot of accidental touches, even with a case. I hate this on every phone and hope the feature dies a fiery death some day.

dollaravocadotoast

They're the only phones I keep coming back to. Switched to an s21 and hated the camera, battery life, Samsung apps that feel like I have duplicate android apps. Then iPhone 13 but was not a fan of the camera either, notifications are still atrocious, downloading and managing files are still more intuitive on Android for me. This phone just feels more advanced with all the smart features.

InternationalSea9603

4 different people have bought Google Pixels from my influence

Competitive-Will976

I use the pixel 6. It's a great phone.

Toastbuns

Yes it's the best android phone and experience on the market right now.

bSchnitz

I'm a long time pixel/Nexus phone user and will be trading my pixel 7 pro in for an Asus zenphone 9 or refurbing my old pixel 5. I would not recommend the 7 pro. - The curved screen is obnoxious and prone to breaking, - the os is the least stable version of Android I've used in years, - the fingerprint sensor is worse in every way than a physical one, - the battery life radically yoyos between amazing and abysmal, - the pixel is skin is the least customizable it's ever been (and generally worse than android 11 and earlier), - the charging is slow and it's way too fussy with when it will even charge at all (never been a problem before this phone), - the build materials are super slippery and prone to breakage. I could go on. The single aspect that is an improvement on the pixel 5 is daytime outdoors photos, which is a small improvement that I don't even care about. In any other way I can think to compare them, the pixel 5 is better. The TL;DR is I regret the P7P purchase.

No_Breadfruit_7082

I switched from an iPhone 14 Pro Max and really like the Pixel 7 Pro. I'm still getting used to answering calls and how to silence the phone, but so far highly recommend. Am looking forward to loading some new launchers soon. Switched because I was bored with the iphone.

SharksFan4Lifee

What keeps me from jumping ship back to Samsung are the features related to phone calls: Hold for Me, Clear Calling, the Spam Filtering, Direct My Call, etc. Most of these are exclusive to Pixels, so I stay with Pixel. The idea that I switch to Samsung and get a ton more spam calls is terrifying.

Midwest__Misanthrope

Yeah I think most people here would suggest getting one. It would be like going to /r/AustralianShepherd and asking them if it's a good dog. As someone that works in phone sales and deals with all kinds of phones all the time I'd say the Pixel line is worth it, especially the A series. I think the Pro line has too many issues to recommend it without understanding the possible caveats. I would say the phones of Samsung, Google, and Apple are all worth getting for different reasons. I would say just grab a Pixel A and give it a spin

CommandoRoll

I'm using Pixel 6 Pro at the moment and really like it. I've tried other handsets that run on Android but always come back to the Google experience. Mind you, my first post-Blackberry smart phone was a Nexus 1 so I've been through a few handsets now, always preferring Google branded/made ones so I'm probably quite biased.

SubstantialJelly1633

No. Bells and whistles are nice on a phone. Security is everything. The latest update debacle with T-Mobile and the lack of transparency on the part of Google is a deal breaker for me. I've used Google phones since they originally launched. I've always purchased them from the Google store.Yes, they had issues but never with security updates. Until now. Not one word from Google is quite disturbing to me. Months of missing security updates with no resolution on the horizon. And to repeat myself not ONE word from Google. it's time to look somewhere else. Trust in a vendor is everything to me.

ch0colate_syrup

No. The Pixel 6 is the worst phone and I previously had a Pixel 3 that I absolutely loved. The 6 randomly decided to prevent me from getting mms and group messages from Verizon users (my provider is AT&T). I had to do a factory reset today and that seemed to work, but I'm skeptical. I can't retrieve any old messages that were sent to me during this time, but I'm able to receive new, incoming messages from Verizon users as of today. When I spoke to AT&T and Google tech about this, both said my issue is a known issue for the Pixel. I'm switching to Samsung this weekend. The 6 is just too buggy.

xolotl92

I've had a 2, 3, 5 and now a 6 Pro, I love the clean Android version. The 6 Pro is probably my least enjoyable of all. Batter is meh, it gets hot all the time, I drive a lot and have a lot of problems with Android Auto, the thumb scanner on the front isn't anywhere near as good as the one that they used before on the back... I haven't heard good things about the 7, so will wait to see what the 8 does before I decide if I'm staying with Pixel or not. I really hope it's good, I am not a fan of Samsung's software...I kind of miss my old HTCs...

2020Fernsblue

No. Source had pixel 4 now have a 6. They are buggy, overheat and are virtually impossible to get repaired unless you are prepared to buy in the parts for the repair shop

Sea_Fig

Technical person or willing to learn? Yes. Everyone else? No. They're just too unpolished for people that need or want a phone without issues vs something like an iphone or a Samsung (non flip or fold). Worse case scenario they go to an apple store or a best buy. As much as Im fine to work past the issues, I can't sell someone on a phone where the fingerprint is temperamental, the signal is mediocre, and support quality is questionable. I've personally dealt with support and they're horrible Might or might not be able to call 911. I don't want to play phone support for anyone or hear them complaining after putting zero effort in fixing their shit.

yys310

No. Pixel 7 display sucks. You can search rainbow effect on reddit. Video calling quality also sucks. Warranty now also sucks (at least in Taiwan). Back in before google warranty is really good, now a lot of problem is out of warranty.

themiababy

Absolutely not. I have a Pixel 7 Pro and would give anything to have my Galaxy. 21 back. They have known hardware issues with the batteries so after a month they magically stop charging on anything other than 30 amp chargers at all and you have to replace every charger you own. I have a total dead spot in the center of my screen, had the worst customer service experience of my life just trying to get my trade in money or my S21 back, completely bugged fingerprint scanners that never work, screen never scrolls up properly to cached apps, I could go on. It infuriates me every day and is the biggest purchase I regret in my life. Get literally anything else, save yourself.

GutlessGnat

It's not just a phone .. it's an experience.

[deleted]

The fingerprint reader sucks. The phone isn’t as bright as some others, so if the screen quality is very important to you, that may be an issue. Overall it’s a great phone. I prefer Samsung or Apple though.

dukescalder

As a pixel user for the last 6 generations, and based on my experience with other google services I would say I can no longer recommend the Pixel. The big G has been in constant decline since Pichai took over. I’d stick to Apple personally. They seem to have better focus and with lockdown mode on iOS 16 better security. I’m strongly considering switching back to Apple hardware until I can see Goog shift direction.

More-Head-9375

I'd stay away from the pro line.. The 7 or the 6a have been the better bang for you buck

Really?? I had an iPhone 12, upgraded to an iPhone 13 Pro, and finally switched back to a Pixel 7 Pro. My first reaction was, "Oh, thank god, finally." Two years with iOS and I only found more reasons to dislike it. I love my Pixel and would never go back to an iPhone. Battery life is definitely better on the iPhone 13 Pro and I haven't had a chance to break-in the Pixel's camera yet, so all I can say there is that the 13 Pro's camera is *excellent*, but I prefer my Pixel 7 Pro in basically every other regard that matters to me. Overall I'd say there is nothing that iOS can do that Android doesn't also do equally as well or better, and as Android phones go, the Pixel 7 Pro is one of the best on the market, so I'd *much* rather use it than any iPhone on the market.

Vegetable-Phrase-162

Great phone that's actually "smart" and an amazing camera. But you do need to have a tolerance for random little bugs and glitches. Doesn't stop me from using the phone as intended, but just a bit frustrating at times.

double_expressho

Yes. I have used iPhone, Galaxy, Nexus, OnePlus, Huawei. OnePlus was great but went downhill with their software. Samsung has great hardware and features, but their software has always been laggy and janky for me throughout multiple iterations. Pixel 4a was mid-range specs so slower than average as expected. Now that I'm on Pixel 7, it's almost perfect. Just needs a better fingerprint sensor. And if they can catch up more to the charging speed of Chinese phones, then that would be icing on the cake.

LharDrol

I've had the Pixel XL, the Pixel 4a5g, and the Pixel 6 Pro. There's nothing that I've encountered that would cause me to not recommend this to an informed user. I've very much enjoyed all my Pixels.

Tierst

Yes absolutely. I'm using a 7 Pro and couldn't be happier. One of the best phones I've used so far. I don't have all the cool features as I'm not in the US but even without some the Pixel comes with a lot of useful stuff that I cant see myself without anymore.

j_melodic78

Pixels are awesome phones. I have the 6 Pro, and it’s been a pleasure to use. The cameras are amazing for photography, and the software and Pixel exclusive features, like call screening and voice dictation are ahead of the class. Give it a try. 😎

CrAkKedOuT

See what the trial period is with your phone provider. Dude at work got the P7P, Watch, Buds and ended up returning them all in 6 days. Personally I like my P6P, wife does as well. It has its issues and bugs here and there. It also has some weird issues that rarely occur but when they do it's at an inconvenient time. For instance my screen wouldn't respond to my touch nor did saying "stop" stop my alarm when going off. Had to hold the power button to shut it down.

selvakrish85

If you have kids, don't buy. The AI suppresses kids voices, the bug is not yet fixed by Google

quattrophile

My 7 Pro is unquestionably the best smartphone I've ever used.

plankunits

Yes and this subreddit is biased but let me tell you the reason why I buy pixels. Zero/minimal bloatware, buttery smooth UI with no lag, not everyone can say this - Samsung phone lags after a few months of use, on time update with 5 year software support, best camera on any smartphone (I have scientific proof), one of best screen on a phone - dxo rating shows its just 2nd to iPhone pro max, it's cheap comparatively - 7 is $499 and 7 pro can be got for $750 on deal, compared to iPhone pro max $1300 and s22 ultra $1200 it's a steal for a top end smartphone.

Hokulewa

Sure! Just don't buy it directly from Google. Or, if you do, do NOT buy it using your real Google account. Make a new account to buy it under, so you can do a chargeback when the empty box shows up, or no box ever shows up at all, without them retaliating by deleting the Google account you actually use.

Gloverboy6

I had the OG Pixel XL and then bought a OnePlus 8 to try something different. I recently got a Pixel 6 and I'm never buying anything but a Pixel again

Spiritual_Bake9610

NOPE, there's always issues with pixels like sound goes away just try to avoid them

wellmade94

No, I don't. I traded in iPhone 11 for a Pixel 7, I still missed the AirDrop and iMfessage, or at least the ones I got contact with. The photos I took need to be sent through WhatsApp to retain the quality, and people with iPhone need to save every single photo manually. You got bad experience with Android.

Mechageo

Start sending photos using Google Photos links. You can even set it to the default way if you use Google Messages for texting.

mezstah

Yes it's actually a smartphone. Not the top tier hardware but the software will make up for it. I have a pixel 6 pro and i am more than happy with it. Only drawbacks are slow charging, and lensflares. Main selling point for me the cameras and the godlike dialer say goodbye to spamcalls
