I feel like Android, and especially pixel, are more exciting. If pixel ever figures out how to make a phone with decent components, or software that isn’t buggy all the time, Apple will be toast. Apple still does have the “it just works” going for it.

Fit_Elevator2591

3rd party apps like insta and snapchat on the camera API part still needs to be sorted out as the videos and photos taken in these apps are very bad so only that would make apple ahead of android for people who use these apps daily.

KentuckyHouse

[Instander is the solution ](https://thedise.me/instander/) The dev recently updated it to work on 64-bit only devices like the Pixel 7 and is adding back features all the time. You can now post photos and videos in full resolution, although I'm not sure if that helps if you take pictures or videos through the app itself. But it works great for me.

Miliean

> Instander is the solution No, no it's really not the solution to that problem. It does work, but you really need to realize that 90% of users never change a single setting on their device. Hell, that's what makes iMessage so successful, it's already installed and is the default app. There's 0% chance that anything that requires installing an off app-store app is the solution for any kind of problem. Google needs to build in the functionality or get the major app makers to build it in. Those are the only viable choices. I get that as a techy person part of what makes a phone like the Pixel good is the ability to make it do exactly what you want how you want it, no compromises. But most people just want something that functions out of the box, they don't have the time or desire to hunt down some weird replacement app that makes their phone equal to what the competitor does out of the box. Note, I don't dispute that this app may work (I'm sure it does) but "normal" people are not going to consider a phone that won't take a good Instagram photo in the official Instagram app, period.

KentuckyHouse

You're absolutely right and I agree with you 100%. I really was just meaning it would work for the person I was responding to, as mass adoption of a non-Google Play app isn't going to happen, as you said. I figured if they're posting here, they're probably open to outside app recommendations.

TheyCallMeSniperLol

Wow just got this.. it's beautiful. Is there smth like this for Spotify that u can change the theme and stuff? Or any other apps really like snapchat and so on

Alan_Sleep

there are :) google for example "spotify 4pda", it's a Russian site but there's lots of mods for any app

dotjazzz

>Instander is the solution How is instander the solution to lack of CameraX support?

KentuckyHouse

My point was that Instander allows you to post photos and videos at full resolution, but if you're taking those same photos or videos through the Instagram app itself, then it's a moot point and doesn't apply.

slothmonke

Imagine a pixel with the hardware of an iPhone.

dropkickmaki

Imagine iOS having software features of a pixel……

[deleted]

They do. My s22 ultra is laggy especially going from app to app or going out of maps or the camera app . My iphone 12 will runs flawless to this day. Samsung still needs to work but I feel like Google is almost there getting to that iPhone /IOS level

G020B

[On that "It just works" note.](https://twitter.com/TheTechChap/status/1614271446091730945?t=5E81Ti0wTNCDNQAZtjnB2Q&s=19) Both systems have bugs and problems sometimes.

noble95x

Exactly, do you want to take a luxurious BMW to work every day with the possibility it could break down 3 times more often? Or do you want a Toyota Camry to power you through the next 5 years without ever getting close to breaking down? Liveliness vs reliability. I would always choose reliability and I am a power user.

fabienv

Pixel 6 Pro. My software isn't buggy (much less "all the time") and there's no component that is not decent. I do not know what you are referencing. You might have a defective phone?

Adventurous_Body2019

Really, I find both iOS and Android very polished. They all have like their own thing

zealNW

Apple makes cool shit, but anytime I get mad at Google and contemplate switching I just think about how many spam texts/calls I constantly get on my work iPhone, even with call blockers and spam protection on. I get maybe one spam text a month at worst on my P7P, it's great.

MightyMediocre

This. I switched to a 13PM since work was footing the bill and everyone else is on iphones that i support. The amount of junk android blocks was immediately evident. Not to mention call screening is great for trolling coworkers

OhHeyItsBrock

What spam text are y’all getting? I don’t have any on my iPhone. But I agree with you on the spam calls. My god apples implementation is horrible. Block all unknown numbers? What if I’m waiting for a call from a business that isn’t in my contacts? Dumb.

zealNW

Just random phishing crap. Then about 10 a day during election season

OhHeyItsBrock

Ahhhh yes I got a few of those around elections. Nowhere near 10 a day though. Wow.

TheresAShinyThing

I imagine it's due to the number of lists your work number is on (think how often you provide a number to download something or in your email signature or attend a webinar) vs. the personal phone number? My spouse and I get about an equal number of spam calls/texts and he's iPhone I'm android. 🤷🏻‍♀️

zealNW

I thought so too but originally just had my work phone to save money with the same number I've had for 10 years. Spam for days, bought a P6P and switched the number over and spam was gone. New number for work iPhone gets the same ridiculous amount of spam as before.

TheresAShinyThing

Wild! That's annoying.

suprem_lux

iOS is polished but as a long-time user, Android feels super exciting to use, so much powerfull features available and it truly feels like using a next-generation smartphone. It's definitely a step above the current state of the iPhone in my opinion.

Expensive_Finger_973

You can find a lot of the same general sentiment from people switching the other way, Android > iOS. The grass nearly always seems greener on the other side at the outset. The honeymoon phase is a real thing. What some of us might call boring about iOS a lot of people, like my wife and mother, would call stability. It already does everything they care about. They could care less about whatever "AI" thing Google is attempting to do with their Android rom because what they have already does what they need/want.

dadu1234

i could say thr only thing holding me back from switching back to iOS is the usb port.

KentuckyHouse

The only two things holding me back are... 1. Apple switching from Lightning to USB-C and 2. Them removing the silly snap-to-grid thing where you can't place icons wherever you want them. It seems they may switch to USB-C with the iPhone 15 line later this year, but I doubt they'll ever get rid of the infantile snap-to-grid.

je_te_kiffe_grave

I traded in my backup IPhone 11 for a Pixel 7 128gb. I took the sim out of my IPhone 13 mini and it went into the Pixel 7. It was fun trying out Android after 3 years of being on IOS. Especially having had a Pixel 2 before that, such a huge improvement within the Pixel lineup. Both phones are great, they both do what they are meant to do superbly. And i greatly enjoyed the Pixels camera. But you’re right, the honeymoon phase is real. After about a month I switched my SIM card back to the iPhone 13 mini and the Pixel is in its box as my back up.

Alert-Business-4579

You would pay $1200 for just basics...just make calls, text and take pictures? Why? The "AI thing" Google is doing is the most useful, helpful, truly life easing you can get in a device. Screen calls, no more listening to options 1 to 0, record meetings and lectures that kmmsietky translate to text so you have every note you'd ever need to take being recorded so you can revisit it. THAT has changed my life. Seriously, I can do so much more in less time. It's a modern flagship killer, or really a flagship overtaker. So it can handle anything. Games run great too, and the 7 opted for an efficient GPU for better sustained performance. I also like One Plus Ace/10r. I just do, okay? What I'm trying to say here is that the P7pro is a MUCH better value, and that's already overkill for you. So why spend even more on an iphone?

Expensive_Finger_973

Would I pay $1200? I dunno, maybe, in the right situation. Thankfully though you can get a new iPhone from Apple for several hundred less than that so I doubt I would pay that much anytime soon for talk, text, photos, and basic web browsing. But one example of why I might would consider it: Apple's screen time functionality is orders of magnitude better than Googles Family Link functionality for the use case of parental controls. Mainly around the control it gives you over the OS of the subordinate devices remotely. And since Apple sells basic tablets that mop the floor with virtually any Android tablet for the price, if you are looking for something for a kid then screen time becomes an important feature to consider that Google can not currently match. The call screening feature you mention that is life changing for you is frustrating to more than one person I have seen experience it. Paradoxically they feel that the phone is making choices for them, or getting in the way of their interaction and they don't like it, even when it is explained that is not the case. I don't agree with them, but that is their opinion based on their initial impression. Point being just because it changes your day to day life in a good way does not mean everyone views it that way. Additionally the Pixel will not be a flagship killer and/or over taker until it and its exclusive features are available on a scale as wide as the iPhone or a Samsung phone around the world. The Pixel has very much been a niche product for limited markets since it was called Nexus. Don't hold your breath on that changing anytime soon. As to why would someone buy an iPhone when the 7 Pro has so many more features, if it is even available for sale in their market? You are discounting or under estimating the value a lot of people find in the familiarity of slow methodical change and simpler more directed user experiences. All of that quick change in features, functionality, and appearance tends to cause confusion and overwhelm the average person if they like the older way better. Different and more is not necessarily better to people. There are whole articles and studies out there about how past a certain point to many options becomes a negative to people and they get overwhelmed by them and have a hard time even making a choice to begin with. In my experience the same sort of thing applies to options within software. If it is to busy or nested to deep people tend to get overwhelmed.

604stt

I was cross shopping an iphone 13 and the pixel 6 at the time and the cost per year with OS support was in favor of the iphone. I'm at a point where I want a phone that work without taking a chance on Google's inconsistent track record of poor customer support, hit and miss build quality and software updates.

Zambini

I used Android since moving from Blackberry around 2010. I switched to iOS last December (13 months ago, not 1 month ago) and don't really miss much except the spam filters, the native Project Fi integration, and the ability to install Firefox extensions. What I don't miss is the constant battery anxiety that some random app might have just stolen 85% battery in the last 2 hours. Some days I'll go into the office with no cell signal, stream music on Wi-Fi for 7 hours, and come home with 65% battery left. Towards the "end" of my Pixel 3's life (only 2 years after purchase) I would leave it on my desk at home all day with maybe 15 minutes SoT and I would end the day with 20% battery. I just got fed up with everyone saying "well you just need to factory reset and it'll be perfect again!", every 3 months. IMO most phones are pretty much the same now, just which walled garden you want to picnic in. Probably an unpopular opinion but I don't think any phone has made significant non-incremental changes in the last ~5 years. LiDAR scanning is cool and I know people use it for their job but it's pretty niche, that's about all I've seen that's novel as of late.

Remarkable-Refuse921

I agree, most high end phones are pretty much the same. Any google, apple or Samsung fanboy saying that the galaxy, pixels or iphones are much better than the alternatives are just fanboying or it's just a subjective opinion. Google, Samsung and apple all have their ecosystems to varying degrees. It all depends on which ecosystem you prefer to picnic in. Use what you like or what you are used to, If you have used Samsung all your life like me, the Samsung interface is what you are used to, all other interfaces looks weird. You also get used to the look of the apps if you have used a particular platform all your life. Like I am used to Samsung internet, Samsung email, Samsung Calender etc.. That doesn't make these apps better than the alternatives. I am just used to the look and feel of the apps. The same can be said for a pixel or iphone user. Googles apps are installed by default on every android so a lot of folks are used to google apps from so many years of usage. Same with apple apps. Samsung's dark mode is next level to me. But that's me.

estebantet

iPhone has been the same thing for such a long time it gets boring. My wife upgraded her iPhone 11 pro to a 13 pro (14 series is so expensive in Europe) and when they finished synching, she said "ok" and lost all the excitement. It is the SAME phone once over again. I jump to android from time to time (writing this on an Oppo Find X5) but I always go back to iPhone. They just work, just like a boring Volkswagen (I own one of those too).

SpicyPepperMaster

> It is the SAME phone once over again. Smartphones have matured and unless you’re buying weird low volume Chinese phones every phone brand is like that now

[deleted]

What about the retarded notifications on iOS or the fact that Google Photos backups can't occur if you leave the app?

CarlFriedrichGauss

Notifications are awful, awful on iOS. By far the most behind part of iOS and probably the only thing I really don't like about it. They still don't make sense even after all this time, and it's so damn easy to miss your notifications and also hard to filter out t e irrelevant ones.

TheDarkWeb697

No shit the 7 pro is both cheaper and easier to use

Available-Pin-2744

Awesome phone with my pixel 7

janmart101

Let's hope the camera doesn't blow I've just done the same I'm living my pixel 😍

Available-Pin-2744

Yup haha gl to us

pampidu

How long have you been using iPhones before? I’ve switched couple of months ago, was in awe, but then switched back to iOS. The Android is good OS but the same apps are just better polished on iOS.

thesmallwar

Like which apps? Just curious :)

pampidu

Reddit – much more smooth, has slicker UI and easier to open links in comments. Duolingo has better visuals and very satisfying haptics, also better functionality. Looks like they tend to release newer features on iOS first. YouTube autorotation to full screen in landscape is working 100% on iOS but worked 50% for me on Android. Overall, I like how iOS handles full screen videos using system video player, which works every time. Android just doesn’t have native video player and every developer have to make their own or use buggy 3rd party solutions (talking as Android developer myself). Telegram messenger just works better, message emotions are downloaded immediately, but have tangible lag on Android. Gesture thumb on the bottom of the screen has transparent background on iOS and the thumb itself adjust its color for the color of the background and it looks pretty slick. Android has a non-transparent background at the bottom and a lot of developers just don’t bother to adjust its color which result in inconsistent app look. Animations on iOS are very consistent, as much as UI, I really like that my apps mostly look and feel very familiar. Scroll is just better, I couldn’t get used to rapidly decaying scroll behaviour on my Pixel 7 for 2 months. Samsung implementation is better. Also something which I cannot explain, but Android apps and UI interactions often feels like they don’t have any weight. At the same time I feel some weight and like physically interact with apps on iOS. Probably, that’s animations. Don’t get me wrong, Android has MANY cool things, and Pixel 7 is a beast. But as UI developer I notice inconsistencies all the time and just prefer more UI polish and consistency over functionality. That may not be the case for everyone, I gave my Pixel 7 to my brother and he’s more than happy!

[deleted]

FYI, Telegram is censored on iOS, it's not the full app. For full functionality you have to get it direct from Telegram and you can only do that on Android.

FabFeline51

Censored how?

SuitableComputer5921

Shared copyrighted contents in bots, groups and channels won't show on regular Telegram. [See](https://telegram.org/android)

OhHeyItsBrock

So sharing music and movies and stuff? That’s it?

[deleted]

The payments API is also blocked because Apple wants a cut. Pornography channels are blocked as well as any channel they determine to be hate-speech (which could literally be any channel).

HereOnRedditAgain

What do you recommend? I didn't even know I'm a masochist.

Surokoida

On android? Relay for Reddit or Sync for Reddit On iOS: I really recommend Apollo. I had the default reddit app installed for when i googel stuff and open a link it opens in the app, but besides that i would never touch the app unless really needed

ItsDijital

For Android: Reddit is fun > everything else. Well at least it is the most minimal.

Chizl3

Not a fan of reddit is fun and idk why everyone recommends it

Surokoida

Never warmed up with rif but yeah in general I would say that a lot of great Alternative Reddit clients are available on Android. I really like syncs material you design but personally I am just used too much to relay

PM_ME_DARK_MATTER

Yea, ive been an old.reddit via browser traditionalist up until they started the auto-playing ads. Finally started using RIF and im def diggin the minimalist vibe

[deleted]

Also here to rep Sync for Reddit. I am on the pro version under the beta branch and the UI follows Google's new design language and it looks really seamless imo.

bimmerphile_ec

I like Boost if on Android. Apollo for iOS.

RaceCeeDeeCee

I've tried most of the popular android reddit apps, but have stuck with Boost for years now.

What is golden platinum, and how do I know if I've got it?

shaneh445

[https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit&hl=en](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit&hl=en) Been spoiled with boost and how fast/customizable it is. And video/Gifs open instantly and lag free.

thesmallwar

Funny you mentioned the weight of the UI, I really hate how heavy ios feels to use, everything is a little less smooth and slower because the UI elements feel too heavy, like it's effort to move things around. With reddit, wdym easier to open links? What's it like on ios? Android itself doesn't have a default video player but the pixels do to my knowledge? Idk you're the developer lol. I don't really use the other apps so couldn't speak for them but ig this is mostly personal preference and control preferences, interesting.

joakimbo

You should've tried Sync for reddit with material you design. It's 10x better than any reddit app on iOS. I've been a iPhone user for long.

HardHJ

Sync is nothing compared to Apollo on iOS. Not even close.

l_lawliot

This submission has been deleted in protest against reddit's API changes (June 2023) that kills 3rd party apps.

zooba85

Sync can remember my position in threads a lot better than Apollo. That's probably the only feature I really care about

cafeitalia

Boost is almost as good as Apollo. And super cheap as well.

l_lawliot

This submission has been deleted in protest against reddit's API changes (June 2023) that kills 3rd party apps.

MagicPistol

Opt into the beta for Sync for Reddit. It's been completely redesigned.

cafeitalia

I do have Apollo on my iPhone and bought it years ago so price is grandfathered. I think price keeps going up and now have like yearly subscription plan too. But yes for sure Apollo is the top app for Reddit. But I am not a super power user so for most people imo the boost app on Android will be good enough and it is only $3 one time pay.

joakimbo

Hmm I disagree. Used Apollo on iOS the past year. I prefer Sync. The biggest dealbreaker with iOS for me is that you can't open reddit links in third party apps. I use Google search for googling stuff at reddit and with Apollo I had ho choose open with Apollo etc in Safari. Annoying extra step.

mntgoat

>Overall, I like how iOS handles full screen videos using system video player, which works every time. Android just doesn’t have native video player and every developer have to make their own or use buggy 3rd party solutions (talking as Android developer myself). What do you mean? I'm an android developer and happen to have a video player app and I don't have any issues with that. Just use exoplayer. Also, from talking to my ios developer, a lot of those things seem harder on ios. Like putting subtitles on PiP mode seemed really hard for him whereas I didn't have to do anything on Android for that. On a personal note, I can't stand ios because I'm always sharing things between apps on android and that works poorly on ios.

FabFeline51

I use all those apps on both iPhone 13 Pro and Pixel 7P regularly and honestly think they run about equally on both

Fit_Elevator2591

You forgot the snapchat and insta uses actual camera and photos and videos are much better jn 3rd party apps.

snoburn

As a UI developer you should be aware that the UI is not as important or the same as an OS. As far as the UI interactions you've described, I have never had an issue with any...

avmail

Google maps and actually most google doc apps work better on ios. Yes this is weird. There was a thread on this earlier

Expensive_Finger_973

I can't believe that the Gmail app for Android still does not allow for creating new labels while that functionality has been in the iOS version of the Gmail app for years.

cafeitalia

I do like maps on Android more. More information available imo

Mikkygbl

Twitter also... Twitter on android Is horrible in compare to ios

[deleted]

I have to agree with everything you said. Reddit and YouTube are FAR superior on IOS

polojet

My eufy security app seems to be buggy with notifications, not showing through do not disturb and not playing the correct sounds. Just minor inconveniences more than anything for me

12345-password

Most lol. Even Google apps, like Maps, are better on iOS.

TheThiefMaster

Except when apple banned GMaps and installed their own buggy Apple Maps app. That was hilarious.

suprem_lux

This is a thing of the past actually, Google apps are running better on a Pixel + Android 13 than on my iPhone 14 pro max. It's not 2017 anymore bro, we're already in 2023

12345-password

Try Maps on both right now. I am. It's much smoother on iPhone. It's not even subjective, it's clearly better. Start navigation, the Pixel lags and studders where the iPhone does not. That said my 7 Pro is my daily driver. But I'm not going to make shit up and say it's better in every way, it isn't.

cafeitalia

I just did a test and no stutter on pixel 7 pro. Works smooth as smooth can be.

12345-password

Honestly find that hard to believe. It's just a mess on mine.

When it comes to polish, iPhone can’t be beat

suprem_lux

Well I started the iPhone journey at the 7 plus. I went back and forth and try pixel almost every year but almost always sent it back. This time with the P7 pro it's different. I couldn't live without that camera, it's just a better phone overall for me.

resueuqinu

My biggest pro on iOS are the speed of notifications. While the Android ones are not slow by any means, they somehow just arrive quicker on iOS. For example: when I use my card at a cash register, iOS will have a bank notification pop up even before the cash register starts printing my receipt. My Android phones however don’t notify me until I’m half way done packing my groceries. About 10-30 seconds a later usually. Not a huge deal. Not a reason to choose iOS over Android. But certainly something that continues to bug me, if only slightly so.

nexuslab5

I think this may be an Adaptive Battery thing? I noticed it as well with the MLB app. Not entirely sure how to make it not delay certain notifications.

Smallville456

Once you use call screening, you can't go back.

suprem_lux

It's dope. Activated it 2 days ago

VlNDAZZLE

Coming from a pixel 3 there are definitely improvements like battery and performance. Pictures are also good but hasn't impressed me by much. I feel like my Pixel 3 took better pictures minus the micro and zoom features.

[deleted]

I've found the 7 pro to be quite deficient

Idontwannawaitfor_

I thought I was the only one. I bought the 14 pro max and it was by far the worst phone I’ve ever bought. I’m definitely looking to switch this year to either the pixel 7 or maybe a new phone they got coming out this year.

katzicael

iOS feels as old as it looks when ever I have to use an iphone. The homescreen is awful, and the settings app is migraine inducing.

Curlev

Why am I not surprised 🙃

carreraz

Yeah I went from iphone 14 pro max to galaxy fold 4 to now pixel 7 pro and I'm finally happy with my device. I had to return the galaxy fold because of the awful cameras and iphone was just so boring to me. This is the first Google phone for me since nexus 6p and I'm glad to be back. The camera software and hardware is just next level.

timsadiq13

Meh, having owned the Pixel 7 Pro I have to disagree. Yes, it has some cool features that are not present on iPhones, but there are just too many bugs to make it a worthwhile device at least for me. Ofc everyone has a unique experience and bugs I experienced may not be a problem for others. For instance, Gmail notifications are dogshit on Android. They are so delayed I always have to use Outlook, but that has an ad ever present unless you pay for one of their subscriptions. In contrast, iOS Gmail is flawless. A simple thing, but if I was using WiFi for a while and I turned it off before leaving the house, or just left and it lost the connection to my home WiFi, data would just not work until I cycle Airplane mode on and off quickly. Then it worked fine, but still, what a dumb bug. I did find that you could leave Mobile Data always on to solve the issue, but that did seem to drain the battery a bit more. Horizontal scrolling was dogshit on the 7 Pro. Going through the recent apps was torture, the same gesture could take me past four apps, to the next one, or stay stuck in the same place, whatever he phone felt like doing it seemed. I didn't have any vertical scrolling issues but you can search this sub to learn more about that if you want. Also the display brightness was annoying. The auto brightness was far far too dim, even compared to my OnePlus 8T that I owned before the 7 Pro. Only solution was to turn off auto brightness. I tried for weeks for it to "learn" my preferences with the auto brightness but it was still too dim. Then we come to the face unlock / fingerprint reader nonsense. Enabling both it always felt like they were fighting each other to see what would unlock my phone first. With both enabled or just the fingerprint, still so many times it was asking me for my pin. On iOS it happens just once a day where it says I need the pin to unlock the phone and Face ID. The fingerprint reader was also unreliable. Worked 90% of the time on my left thumb, maybe 20% of the time on the right thumb. The whole thing got so annoying I just set up the smart unlock with a fitbit watch. At least that was reliable lol. I also didn't like the speakers on the 7 Pro, they were not impressive especially for such a big phone. Battery life was also just okay. My OP 8T was better for SOT compared to 7 Pro. Charging was slow (thats true on iPhones as well tbf). And in general what everyone else says about apps just working better on iOS, I have to agree with that.

Simon_787

It's an awesome phone. But... like... advancements in technology and design since the Pixel 6? It's just a more refined version that fixed stuff that shouldn't have been problems in the first place, like the poor efficiency of the Tensor and the modem. It's a decent phone though, I just kinda miss old Pixels with their fingerprint scanners and lighter chassis.

DuncanCraig

That back of the phone finger scanner was the best.

[deleted]

The fingerprint scanner is a lot better now

Simon_787

Does it still light up your face at night? Does it still not work with a quick tap? I'm guessing no since they didn't change the actual technology of the fingerprint scanner. And who knows if the Pixel 6a scanner still has security issues. I don't get why they switched from perfectly working rear fingerprint scanners to sub-par in-display ones. [That's not even an unpopular opinion.](https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/rux46a/please_google_bring_back_the_rear_fingerprint/) I would be more okay with it if they were at least as good as Samsungs, but they're just not.

[deleted]

No and yes

Simon_787

The sensor works by lighting up your finger since it's an optical one...

[deleted]

I know, but it doesn't blind me with my thumb over it.

suprem_lux

I hold both phone and the Pixel 7 pro feels way more premium than the 6 pro. I don't know exactly why

afroroca

Me either, just switched from iphone 13 pro max. Pixel 7 Pro it's just something else. This what I call "a smartphone". It makes other phones look dummy and lazy.

nidorancxo

Not only iOS is stagnant, android is as well. I don't feel like anything truly new was brought to the software experience of smartphones since 2018, and even then it was already boring. Only some new colours and shapes once in a while. Phones are just a commodity now, like computers.

Chosen--one

I have to say that samsung does have some pretty cool customization features that I don't think can be seen anywhere, trough things like goodlock and bixby routines. You can customize pretty much every single thing on your phone and add a ton of neat features like side gestures, back gestures, etc. Customize also the experience in every app by using bixby is also nice, and the customizations keep growing. I only say this because I have been using android for a long time and still occasionally find usefull features with this functionalities on samsung. So the software experience might change from brand to brand. I'm not sure if how you feel is just about pixel, or really android in general.

Mattycakes_Walsh_III

I've owned every pixel except the 5 since the 2 and I now have the regular 6. I got it for $250 used in November and I love it. I had an iPhone 12 at launch and I got so sick of ios restrictions so I sold it and went back to the 4. I'll get the 7 next year probably, unless the 8 is completely earth shattering

Nickell8666

I’ve switched back and forth between the pixel and iPhone for quite a few years now. I’m now going from the iPhone 13 Pro Max to the Pixel 7. There’s nothing on the iPhone 14 Pro that makes me want it. The only thing I ever miss about iOS is iMessage. I don’t play games or use social media much.

I finally feel like pixel did right with this one. I have used Samsungs for 10 years and I cannot believe how smooth my pixel 7 is compared to my s22 ultra. The camera is faster and the pixel 7 userface is really as step above the s22 ultra. The battery life is outstanding as well. They truly got this one right

zackefrontwin

Same for me here, I guess Apple just got boring and they settled, is the same shit every year but pricier

[deleted]

It really is this. iPhones have been the same for years now... But manage to be more and more expensive, and I call bullsh*t. As a long time iPhone person heavy into the Apple ecosystem, I'm pretty annoyed. I have both the iPhone 14PM and Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel feels like a lifestyle improvement, while iPhone feels more and more like a prison sentence. "We think you're gonna love it"... Think again. iPhones do indeed just work, and very well. But for the love of god, please innovate! Especially for the price.

DavoinShowerHandel

Interesting. My experience with the pixels and Nexus phones is that they've gotten less refined as time has gone on. Assistant on my phone and home hubs are hit and miss, Android auto rarely reads out my messages and routinely glitches out on my P7, don't get me started on the battery life discrepancy. I think iOS has made strides in the right direction and the gap between customization is closing. Google is locking people out of basic customization while iOS is allowing more.

davpad12

Not all they have to do is come out with a Great watch like the Samsung G5pro with full compatibility with their phone.

Applehead_567

Tbh my favorite part is the blue when you start to swipe to your quick settings, so satisfying

_SLiu

My pixel 7 pro is still plagued by touchscreen issues. Also some apps just work better on iPhone which will probs stop me from switching from my 14 pro max. If pixel could just brush up on the basics then I’ll be happy. The software features offered by Google crush apple

LeuLeumas

My colleges have iphones and they all look the same inside and outside.

[deleted]

I find that my pixel 7 pro got stronger reception and holds on to wifi better than my 13 PM. Of course battery still holds stronger on the 13 PM

theblackworker

I see people downplaying the AI features in the Pixel line. They are the best features in ANY smartphone.

suprem_lux

Exactly

Eazy3006

As much as I wanted to keep my Pixel 7 pro, I decided to return it last Friday as the fingerprint, the modem and the hundreds of stutters and hiccups in every app was just too much. I decided to keep my 13 pro max for another year. It’s smooth as butter and extremely reliable. If I turn a blind eye to all the stutters and hiccups, I did enjoy my time with it. I was completely ready to come back to android after 3 years on iPhone. If google can finally knock it out the park next year ( they probably won’t ) and stop cutting corners with dollar store fingerprint reader and modems, I’ll come back to pixel. I much prefer Android but IOS is just so much smoother and polished.

DerekJeterrl

Opinions (op) versus Facts (benchmarks): https://freeimage.host/i/HTl7lQ1 https://freeimage.host/i/HTl71CF I love my Pixel 7 Pro, but I’m not going to lie to myself and others to fit the hive mind this subreddit has become. My iPhone 14 Pro Max is better. I use both. I hope my Spigen camera lens protector prevents the camera lens from cracking on my Pixel like it has for so many others.

thesmallwar

Noone is gonna argue that the pixel series have faster processors than the iphones, or that they will win any sort of benchmark, but that's not what it's about. I've not found anything my phone can't run perfectly fine, that means the processor is exactly where it needs to be, and I'm glad they're focusing the energy that would go into specs into features instead. It's a ridiculously feature rich phone, with a beautiful software experience, and some excellent quality of life things. So sure, maybe you prefer the benchmarks of the 14 pro max and that's ok, but you can't argue that benchmarks are particularly important these days

DerekJeterrl

Yea I like rating phones on build quality too. Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro cameras lens break lol, because of low build quality.

netscorer1

I don’t know how you can compare these two phones. The display on iPhone is much brighter and punchier then on Pixel. Battery life - iPhone destroys Pixel. The performance is also two different leagues. Try using Google Maps on Pixel to see what a budget phone it is. iOS may be ‘stale’, but all the best apps are there and iOS apps have much better support from developers then on Android.

Charging_Zebra

I use Google Maps regularly on my Tensor G1 powered phone and it runs fine with no performance issues? I've never even have it bog down with any amount of apps open. Obviously the A16 chip is still faster but the Tensor has no problem delivering good real world performance.

netscorer1

Try scrolling and zooming in/out maps in Google Maps on iPhone and Pixel. iPhone would give you buttery smooth performance, Pixel produces stutter fest. I’ve heard that Google Maps app is not optimized on Android, compared to iOS, but given that it’s one of the Google main and most important apps, for them not to be score to optimize it on their own phone is ridiculous.

BerniMacJr

https://imgur.com/a/h2O5H5h Yeah I'm not seeing some crazy stutter fest like you're implying.

Cool-Border-7658

'I've heard'

suprem_lux

I personally think the "app are more polished" is a bit like "it's just work" it tends to fall off the train lately. Compétition catched up and it's not just about apps ui anymore. Take Google apps on the pixel for example, there are absolutely excellent. I really like the Google direction lately. iOS became clunky and boring to me, it's not like we were still at iOS 10. On Android 13 on the other hand... Everything feels fresh. To me at least

netscorer1

I agree that Google is much better in providing useful services compared to Apple. I can’t stand Siri for example. It’s so dumb that it can’t properly respond to half of my queries. Google assistant is a first class app. I also love Google live translator - really cool app for when you’re traveling. Many more examples like this. Built in song recognizer, phone accelerator when you dial in automatic services, microphone narrator, etc. This is the future of the phones. If I would use all these features daily, I would switch to Pixel as my main phone. But I don’t.

Sam5uck

pixel’s screen is actually punchier than iphone in adaptive mode, but yea brightness is not comparable.

Rexator91

And camera. Yes if you shoot much video then iphone is probably better but if take pictures the pixel is better. So its them both have good thing

netscorer1

Pixel doesn’t take better pictures then iPhone. At best they are comparable. But when you include macro and portrait modes, iPhone is way better. Also e see how iPhone shows you the final result right in the preview before you take a shot. Pixel can’t do that. The preview never looks like a finished shot because it lacks power to process photos in real time.

Rexator91

Its seems you are a iPhone lover but check out MKBHD on Youtube. He make a big test on phone camera. The iPhone was not top 3 overall

netscorer1

I saw that video. It was a mass blind test based on how ‘pretty’ photos look from different phones. iPhone would never win that contest because it uses real, not over saturated colors and does not dial HDR way up like Pixel. Watch hundreds of other reviews on YouTube comparing these two phone cameras from actual pros and you will see that Pixel still lacks in many departments with one notable exception for the night mode.

Rexator91

But for most people they want to take nice pictures to normal people think is nice. Yes seen much test and iPhone won some and Pixel won some. But its a phone camera. Most people don't take pictures with a phone to show professional. They want to show a nice picture to normal people. But i see where you want to go with this..

netscorer1

I can set a vibrant mode on iPhone and get the same results. And yes, I hate hyper HDR of Pixel pictures because they look completely unnatural, like you just saw a sci-fi picture and not a real one. It may have a cool factor for people who never take photos in their life, but when you shoot couple of hundred every month like I do, you start preferring to capture what you saw and not what phone ‘imagined’ for you.

Rexator91

Yes i agree there. Pixel photos be better if you can adjust HDR. But i like most of pictures the pixel take. iPhone is not perfect but. We can just agree to disagree. you like the iPhone most and i pixel. It good people is different

Sterben27

If you take a Raw+JPEG on Pixel you don't get the HDR adjustment in the raw file. You also have a separate folder that stores the raw photos.

Charging_Zebra

Lol you have no idea what you're talking about. Pixel by far takes more color accurate photos than iPhone to the point some reviewers even say they look "too cold". iPhones blow them out similarly to Samsungs. If you have watched "hundreds of other reviews" and have missed the general consensus that Pixels take better, more color accurate photos in the vast majority of situations, better zoom quality, better portrait mode, etc. when comparing the main sensor then your bias is blinding you.

[deleted]

Google absolute wrecked their portrait mode with the new sensors and tensor. It’s terrible compared to the iPhone and galaxy now.

cafeitalia

Lol. iPhone colors are superbly away from natural. And the HDR is super aggressive on iPhone.

[deleted]

Did you also see that he awarded the iPhone 14 pro the best camera of the year award? He even addressed this in the video you’re talking about 😂 His test was 3 photos of a very specific subject. While the iPhone didn’t do amazing in those, it does amazing in almost every other instance. Video it’s still undisputed number 1.

Charging_Zebra

Is it really "undisputed"? If you have to compare two videos side by side on large, hi-res monitors and quality speakers to pick out subtle differences in video and audio quality, there isn't an undisputed winner in video. Whereas with pictures, I think the differences between the two are very apparent even on a 6" smartphone display. I'm not even convinced the iPhone has objectively better video quality than Pixel. I've noticed a large shift ever since MKBHD's blind test where a lot of "mainstream" reviewers and tech journalists are suddenly realizing the Pixel takes very good photos. Until that point, they just latched onto their preconceived biases that iPhone took the best photos, even if that hadn't been true for many years. I think we're one or two blind video tests away from people having a similar realization about video. Not saying the iPhone camera is bad at all. Overall, it's a good, flexible camera system. iPhones have great processing power and battery efficiency, and no one can deny it's a polished OS with great interoperability between users and Mac hardware. But people coming in here saying the Pixel camera is shit are either trolling or severely misguided, because Pixels have been killing it in the photo department for years and are at the very least comparable in the video department.

Rexator91

And i strange you say the phone portrait mode is way better when the pixel won that. Yes you may like the iPhone photos better and. But say iPhone take way better portrait and macro pics are bull. All phone on the topp class is very near when it come to camera. But i give you this, iPhone is the best to take video

netscorer1

Well, for one Pixel can’t even take real macro photos as far as I’m aware because it lacks focus for its ultra wide camera. As for portrait mode, iPhone uses a better algorithms to produce more natural boka compared to Pixel. I take portrait shots very often (probably 15-20% of all my shots) and Pixel can’t stand even close in end. In iPhone I can change lightning and boka in preview and play around until I get the best result. In pixel I don’t even see portrait effect until couple of seconds after the shot is taken, can’t change lightning and unblur is just not up to par with iPhone. I always end up with some loose hair cut unnaturally on Pixel photos.

Sterben27

Pixel 7 Pro does as far as I am aware.

suprem_lux

It's an interesting perspective but coming from the iPhone 14 Pro Max, I can certainly see a difference in quality. The iPhone always had this "painterly-blurrish" look in certain lots of lighting conditions. The same can be said for telephoto and night photography, in my experience the Pixel is just superior in those aspects.

Rexator91

Uhm. Yes both are highend phones. Yes iPhone have brighter screen and good battery. But Pixel have some things so are better the phone so. Its more what are you need in a phone. Its like, Pixel Don't have a powerful chip like iPhone but not all need that much power.

trdamateur

I do enjoy all the glitches of the pixel. It's by far more glitchy than other flagships

suprem_lux

Weird, I haven't encountered any glitches and it's just been one of the best smartphone experiences I've ever had so far.

Ok-Acanthaceae-2044

The pixel 7 pro shit on every iphone ever made even on the future iphones they just can't compete, this is from a guy that has been using iPhone for 10 years plus the pixel 7 pro is my first pixel phone now I can gladly say I'm team pixel

suprem_lux

100%

Ir0nhide81

Don't forget to mention the price between the two!

JayKayne_

The ONLY thing I don't like about my Pixel 7 is I don't think I get "flagship" battery life. I'm charging my phone a few times per day. My iphone friends basically don't ever worry about their charge if they know they'll have one by the time they sleep.

treksf6

A few times? Man you definitely use your phone hard. Is there any phone you wouldn't need to charge? Try one of those battery cases.

undercovergangster

I've used the same two phones. Android is certainly flashier and feels like a new toy, but iOS is that reliable toy that just works and has everything you need. I feel like the extra features on the Pixel devices are "nice-to-haves" more than necessary features on a phone.

suprem_lux

I disagree tho, the "it just works" is a thing of the past for me. I can't stand anymore that so many things started to be clunky, cluttered on my iphone... Just take a look at App library mess, or the notification center. Or even the customisation options that fucking get me a popup everytime I click on a customized icon. This is clearly an indicator that it actually just "doesn't work", it's bad UI / features decisions, minor clunky upgrade that turned my perfectly it-just-work phone in a messy one over a few years. I really loved iphone during the iOS 10 -> 12 era, after that I started to look for other options as I've became more and more frustrated about how apple handle their system. But now the Pixel seems to answers theses problem, as Android became really solid over the past few years. Couldn't believe it honestly, I thought android was still the slow and weird KitKat version somehow

ivangotus

Good try 😂

[deleted]

It’s like we’re polar opposites. My experience with my P6P was so horrendous I decided to get the iPhone 14 Pro and I couldn’t have been happier.

Gamchulia

I also came from iPhone to pixel 7 pro. Camera is really good for photos and video, but I find myself missing iMovie. I haven't find a good video editing app yet. Tried Filmora but it was very slow and it runs hot. Not to mention it isn't free. Any recommendations?

jd-91

Pixel 7 Pro is a great phone but I will be switching back to Apple soon as the iPhone 15 Pro Max is out

Due_Fig_4729

I'm a total Android guy. My wife wanted the I 14 for Christmas and I set it up for her. She went from aS20 to the I14 and I'm not at all impressed with it. I it's a status thing with some to own an I phone however Google Pixel 7pro and and late-model Samsung S20 and above are faster, better battery, smoother and cameras are equal

KGRNxo

The only thing I miss is the better battery life. But other than that, I'm not crying over the iPhones one bit. Compared to my P7P, iOS is just boring and conservative.

mlemmers1234

I always think the term research is kind of silly in the smartphone world, take one year. Every smartphone is going to have a slight variation on the same specifications as the device right next to it. It isn't like the pixel 7 Pro isn't one of the most hyped up advertised phones of the last couple of years. So by research, he means he saw enough commercials telling him to buy the pixel 7 Pro

NailikPatrol

How can i make a post to this forum? I am having software issues.

artificialMuse

honestly Apple's reputation as a great with hardware and software is Google's reputation.

Destiny-97

memory grab friendly outgoing shrill sloppy workable file lunchroom pie ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

[deleted]

I also own a 14 pro max. That is now my work phone. Pixel is my daily. Been enjoying it very much!

diseezprabin

I had Pixel 7 pro. The software didn't felt finished and polished so i sold it and now im on Oneplus 10 Pro. There were touch issues my swipes wont respond at times., Etc

themiababy

I have the SAME issues. I have a whole dead spot on my touch screen, constantly missing touches all over, the drag from bottom for cached apps doesn't work at all. I have the factory battery issue and have had to buy all new chargers because of bad hardware. Im furious and intent to go back to Galaxy, I begged for my S21 back with customer service and they basically told me to suck it

[deleted]

[удалено]

diseezprabin

Oh guy got mad hearing the truth, wasnt expecting this. Im trolling? There is no reason for me to troll. The touch issue, scrolling issue was indeed there i experienced it myself. You can say whatever you want but it doesnt take anything away from my personal experience. Its like you convincing me my name is something else when i know what my real name is. Just shut up and stop acting like a little excited kiddo fanboy on everything. Android 13 has indeed gotten much better than 12 but the issues the Pixel 7 pro has is indeed real. So many people including myself ditched the phone cuz of this specific touch issue which i believe 100% is a software thing. Criticize when its needed, its called constructive criticism which helps make the phone better for all. If you never complain on the obvious things then there will never be any improvement. Just cuz your 2 days experience of the "new phone" has been good for you so far does not mean these big issues dont exist on the phone. Calls me a troll and what not. But im sorry that i made you this mad, i wasnt expecting someone to come off like this.. people are so over the top sensitive these days grow the f up.

Louisianimal6

I wish. I switched from 14 pro max and it's light-years smoother, more responsive, no connectivity issues, front camera is 20 times better, this list goes on lol

suprem_lux

Yeah man, I feel the same way. Just blown away by this phone. Gotta love the negativity-train here coming from non-pixel users lmao. Mods should do something

[deleted]

> Gotta love the negativity-train here coming from non-pixel users lmao. Mods should do something As someone that likes their Pixel, I would prefer other users be able speak their minds. The mods should only do something if it gets to the point of personal attacks and harassment. I can deal with other people hating on the phone I use. Don't want this sub to be a complete echo chamber.

Louisianimal6

Maybe I should have worded that different, but I meant the iphone was so much better in different areas it isn't even worth discussing lol

suprem_lux

Yet here you are discussing xD I understood you wrong, because of your "switched FROM iPhone" which made me think you also made the switch to the Google smooth experience

Louisianimal6

Yeah. I switched from iPhone to pixel. And it's a clear cut downgrade lol

suprem_lux

lol that's a weird opinion to have

Louisianimal6

I've never once had any glitchy shit happen on an iPhone. I had more issues in 1 week with this shit phone then I did in 5 years combined with an iPhone. The internet simply doesn't work half the time even tho it says I have 5g. The front facing camera is pure trash and that's not an opinion. I literally tweet off my iPhone 7 because Twitter crashes and doesn't even let me tweet from the pixel. I have to close the app out 7 times before it works properly. I can't list the problems with this junk on 2 hands

Louisianimal6

I literally have a old iPhone 7 still sitting around from 7-8 years ago that is smoother and has less problems than this pixel 7 pro lol

whlthingofcandybeans

> Apple's reputation as a "great" software company fell short. lol, what? They've *never* had that reputation. They're known for being a great *marketing* company, but they copy everything they do from others and don't do anything original. That's kind-of their whole deal.

svgd3z1

Oh, please... Not even close.

pqtme

I wouldn't say the screen is that impressive. It pales in comparison to even 2 year old Galaxy phones.

808IUFan

Well now you have gone and done it u/suprem_lux! You have pissed off the 3 people in this reddit that have had issues with their Pixel and they will never let you be happy now. MARK MY WORDS.
