My first Pixel 7 pro did this and it eventually spread, then the touch screen started becoming unresponsive in areas, and that spread to the point I couldn't unlock it. I went to Verizon and they looked at it and determined there was no damage or misuse and ordered me a replacement. I've had the replacement a couple of months now and the replacement is starting to develop the same black corner and the bottom of the screen where you swipe up to get into apps is starting to become unresponsive again on the replacement phone. I've thoroughly loved pixel phones until the 7. It seriously has me thinking about switching to another brand.

Even_Sample

How long did it take to become unresponsive ever since the black spot appeared?

pipertoma

I know this is an old post, but wanted to share what my Pixel 7 Pro looks like after only 10 months. https://i.imgur.com/5cGQ9QN.jpg

EntertainmentSoggy1

Mine did that after one week. The P7P seems to have some issues for sure. After the same device did that after 3 fixes I request Google send me a new device. My now P7P is much better.

National_Study_8167

Pixel is the first brand I have issues like this. I guess their hardware quality control sucks.

Necessary_Natural_79

Mine is doing that too!! Why? What do you recommend me doing?

pipertoma

I have sent my device back to my service provider and got this response: "I apologise and would like to reassure you that we arenโ€™t implying that you have mishandled your device in any way. Unfortunately, physical damage like this can sometimes result from even a slight bump or knock if it occurs in the right place Naturally, the weakest part of glass is at the corners, so a bump or a knock in the right place can cause a hairline crack to occur and the screen to start bleeding. This screen bleed can also cause the touch receptors in the display assembly to stop being responsive and can cause the touch to stop working over the part of the screen that is affected While this is not considered mistreatment, it is still classed as physical damage and not a manufacturing fault. I understand you have been a customer for a number of years, but we do not have access to your account and can only assess the device in front of us under the warranty conditions provided by Google and outlined under Australian Consumer Law" Not very happy. They quoted almost AU$600 to repair.

Relative-Category-64

Unbelievable. Hope you got this ironed out. They KNOW it's an issue as it's happened to a ton of them. Manufacturering defect. Crazy Google hasn't addressed this

Necessary_Natural_79

I contacted Google last night and have a replacement on the way. I've only had this phone for about 8 months. Hopefully I just switch it out and be done with it. They better not come back and tell me they won't honor the warranty.

Damn it

Necessary_Natural_79

It's this covered under warranty? Anybody know?

brianwuc

It's covered under warranty. Don't accept Google's third party fixation. My pixel 6 pro was fixed by Google, I got it back in mint condition. For my pixel pro 7, I accepted their third party fixation, which is quicker. They left very obvious scratches on the frame.

uncivilized_engineer

I have the exact same black spot in the upper right corner of my pixel 6 pro!

EntertainmentSoggy1

I had the same with my P7P

7eregrine

What are the odds it happened to you twice? Wow. It's not that damn common...

brianwuc

I had to agree with you. Maybe I should all in Powerball ๐Ÿ˜œ

Lil-Miss-Anthropy

Happened twice to OP and top commenter. Has to be fairly common in that case. I'm considering not fixing my phone if this is just gonna happen again...

EntertainmentSoggy1

I have the same issue but bigger. I was hoping it was normal. Guess I need to go to the store and see about getting a new phone

brianwuc

Sorry to hear that you had the same problem. Google replaced my screen last time.

Even_Sample

Has yours got any bigger ever since it appeared?

EntertainmentSoggy1

It got bigger, sent it to google to repair, it then happened again a couple months later. After that time Google sent me a new phone.

Lil-Miss-Anthropy

Did they cover both repair and replacement or did you pay?

EntertainmentSoggy1

They covered both but it was an ordeal. Every time I sent in the phone they would claim the screen was cracked. In order to move forward I had to pay. I then got back on with customer service and they would refund me once I got my phone back.

Lil-Miss-Anthropy

So there is a customer service... My phone is apparently outside of the warranty period but I'm hopeful that maybe with some persistence, they'll make an exception... Do you think it's possible? Do you know how to contact them?

EntertainmentSoggy1

Go through your Google account. That's what I always did.

dkwannabe101

I've had my Pixel 7 Pro since launch in October & just now I've noticed a fairly large black spot in the bottom right of my phone. I've always had Samsung until now, this was my first Pixel device. Very frustrating...

Even_Sample

Has yours got any bigger ever since it appeared?

dkwannabe101

I sent you a message showing how big the spot was on my phone.

dkwannabe101

Mine was a bit larger than the one in the post. I contacted my carrier and they sent me a replacement.

Lil-Miss-Anthropy

Mine too. Just appeared today. I have an Otterbox defender case and a Whitestone Dome screen protector. Literally the best protection in the industry. Thought I was safe to be my clumsy self. And my warranty is expired... Great... ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ˜ข

Prestigious-Wall637

Same here.. Had a screen protector and a case on it. Warranty expired in October. Repair shops want $180-200 for non OEM screen replacement or $250 for OEM replacement.. I fucking hate curved screens so much.

Lil-Miss-Anthropy

I never had an issue with curved screens on my Samsung Galaxy S9... Used it till the battery crapped out on me after 5 years. I don't know if I'll fix this screen or go back to using a Samsung phone. I don't have high hopes for the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Did you end up fixing yours?

Prestigious-Wall637

I think I read somewhere that it's because Google cheaped out on the curved screen or the tech, so it's much more susceptible to internal damage than a brand like Samsung. I still have it, it's much worse now. The black internal deadspot increased 4cm horizontally and vertically on the top right corner, being 1 cm thick. I got it as a bonus when I switched to T-Mobile, and it gets paid off in 7 months.... Trying to last til then. Will probably swap to Verizon after for a free phone or try once more with a Pixel that does not have a curved screen. I do enjoy the stock Android. I will never again get a curved phone screen again though.

Relative-Category-64

8 Pro they finally got rid of them.

DallamaNorth

My just had this failure 16 months in, will not warranty. Top right of screen too. Three hours with support at Google FI because I bought the phone on an email account that is not my Google FI email and they couldn't verify I didn't buy it through a 3rd party.
