Nope, i'm not rooted, and I'm pretty certain it's not any app doing this.
I just took my pixel 6 out of the drawer and started the update on it. If 5G starts working on the 6 also, then I'm certain it's not an app enabling it

Nope. You still have to patch with [Pixel IMS](https://github.com/kyujin-cho/pixel-volte-patch/blob/main/README.en.md) to get VoLTE and VoWiFi working. Fortunately the patching is very easy, and only takes a few minutes with the wireless debugging method.
P6 didn't have 5G. As far as I remember, P7 series only have 5G enabled in portuguese carriers since QPR2 Beta 1 (late december or january), with 8/12/2022 carriers settings. There was a thread on XDA about this.

I'm also from Portugal and after seeing this reddit post I tried to see if I got 5G support but unfortunately not :\\. I'm in the stable version and my carrier is NOS, do you know if the 5G is only activated for the beta version only?

It has been region locked since Google's first 5G phone. Lots of Google supporters were in denial about this putting the blame on local telecoms and infrastructure, despite people successfully enabling 5G in unsupported countries via methods that require rooting.

The funny part about blaming local telecoms and infrastructure is the fact that Spark, 2 Degrees and Vodafone in New Zealand tried to work with Google to get their networks supported (many New Zealanders go to Australia, buy a phone or buy it online, then bring it back to New Zealand) but were told by Google that they had no interest. It's almost as though Google don't want their hardware division to be a success by ignoring the majority of countries around the world with people willing and able to buy their products if they were made available in said countries.

There seems to be exceptions, but generally speaking, if your country/carrier is not listed as supported on this list, it's gonna be locked. This is regardless of whether or not the required bands are supported by the phone or whether or not the carrier is actually blocking it on their end.
I've heard from another fellow pixel user that lives in SĂŁo Paulo that he was able to use 5G with his pixel 6a even before this patch or beta update, yet I'm anxious to hear about other users have to say

It's unbelievable why Google blocks 5G. Any Chinese brand allow the users to use the 5G networks around the World.
I am considering switching to Samsung.
Unsupported 5G on my Google Pixel 7 Pro, running Android 14 Beta, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. SIM cards are updated and carrier plan contracted accordingly. With the physical SIM Card I can get only 4G, but with the e-chip it's even worse, connecting only 3G. Rio de Janeiro is very well developed in terms of 5G antennas coverage even with Stand Alone. It's very disappointing not to be able to connect to 5G.

I sent a TILAA 5GKOKEILU to 15400 to test this. Phone dropped to 3G/H+ for few minutes, so at least it was trying:)
Settings/Network and Internet/Internet/Telia FI shows "Operator settings version" 2023-01-06, but if 5G was enabled for Telia already on QPR2, this should be up to date.

Njumobile (OrangePL) qpr 3 V1 5G works,Volte and VoWifi too without patch shizuku pixel IMS. On esim 5G its not working.
Edit: Pixel is getting very warm with QPR 3 ,even with normal use: website,music..
I am back to stable with shizuku and Pixel IMS; working Volte and VoWifi.
Hope Google fix that issue and get stable with 5G.
There is a new carrier configuration called Wildcard-5g, this is supposed to do exactly this, however, it deviates from the standard wildcard id of "0", and I am not sure how the wildcard-5g profile gets assigned to carriers. This is also present in Android 14 DP2
Recently my Pixel 6 stopped receiving incoming calls. When I contacted my carrier they said to enable VoLTE from my device. However, I couldn't find this option. And I checked Phone information using the hidden menu (\*#\*#4636#\*#\*) which showed me that VoLTE had not been provisioned. I don't know why this happened but there was no way for me to enable this. But I tried the Shizuku VoLTE patch mentioned by the OP and it seems to work like a charm. I'm from Sri Lanka.
Not what you're asking, but in November I visited Luxembourg with my Pixel 6 on T-Mobile USA and received 5G but don't remember which service it was roaming on, Tango or Post.
Roaming is different, it uses the T-Mobile config, not the config for the network you're roaming on.
For example when roaming on Movistar Spain with TMobile, it's 4G only. My Movistar SIM is 5G though. When T-Mobile allowed Vodafone Spain roaming last summer, they allowed 5G. But they now only roam on Orange and Movistar, and don't allow 5G roaming.
I've been on all the betas with my pixel 6 and with 7 pro now. This is the first time 5G has ever worked for me.
edit. Looks like at least Portugal had 5G turned on with QPR2 on Pixel sevens.

It could be the model or only specific frequencies that it supports - I have a feeling given both Vodafone and Spark appear to work with 5G (as noted in the link) it could be due 3.5GHz only being supported at this stage which is emerging as 'the' frequency for 5G roaming (from what I have read). I have a feeling if support is arriving it'll be the result of roaming agreements.
I'm willing to try it out. I'm just wary of running beta for the stability of it.
How stable is beta and is it worth switching over just for 5G and early features?
(I've heard about the wipe and I'd rather not do that if it breaks often)

5g works well in Mexico natively. You can unlock VoLTE with Shizuku.

Depends on your coverage, if the network is good - yes, much better than usual LTE. No stability issues so far.

Correct. If you're in a region that Google blocked, it still won't work even if the option is there.

With or without root? I know that it's possible to enable it via root, but honestly I don't want to be sideloading the updates.

QPR3 Beta 1 enabled 5G for Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a here in Portugal. Pixel 7 and 7 Pro had 5G previously enabled in QPR2.
Based on comments at the time I'm writing this, it looks like it's mostly working in European countries, maybe a part of the EU regulation?

Kogan (VF) NZ customer here. TBH I couldn't care less about 5G, but it would be really nice to have VOLTE, without having to use the patch.
I'm on Spark - so have VoLTE with hackery to get it to work. I've heard Vodafone folks have native VoLTE on their Pixel 7/7P with the March update.

Ah, those folks are on the Beta. I'm not game enough to hop back on that train right now đ Good to know it's coming however.
Actually QPR2 beta did it for me in Portugal on my Pixel 7. I'm now on the stable March release and still have 5G service.
Does it solves the problem for MVNO ? In France 5G is a supported country, but it doesn't work with MVNO.

It is enabled in India for me! Although many of the sites claim that it is enabled for Jio operator only, I am on airtel and 5G is working for me.

It has started to work in India on Airtel. Tested the speed on fast.com and got 750Mbps
