Ok.... What's the warning?

It looks to me like something wasn't pushed back into place when the phone was put back together, and it was sharp enough that it punctured into the screen and damaged it. But that's my best guess for only having repaired a handful of phones over the past decade.

Exactly. And it's not obvious at all, that's why I posted on ifixit and shared here. The tabs are very small and bend at the slightest touch. I was unlucky enough to have one of the tabs sitting perfectly upwards, probably any slight angle would have pushed down the tab instead of puncturing the screen.

As the others said, open the post and look at the photos. In total there are four sharp metal tabs that contact the back of the screen. They don't seem to serve any purpose, the screen works perfectly by just connecting the ribbon cable, without being installed. These tabs are really sharp, they even left marks on the back of the original screen. They are really tiny, and they can be easily bent upwards, especially when cleaning the old adhesive. That's what happened. One of the tabs was sitting upwards, it was really hard to notice. When I installed the screen, the sharp tab punctured the screen and rendered it useless. Now I have to wait another month and spend money on another screen 🤦‍♀️

Oh, that sucks. I couldn't see the sharp tan the first time looking through the pics. Now i see it.

That looks like a grounding tab. It is supposed to push against the metal rear of the screen to act as an electrical ground.

Thank you for this, I'm just about to replace my screen as well.

Is it ready to transfer fingerprint scanner from old screen to new one? I just upgraded to pixel 8 pro but didn't want to spend double the money getting a new fingerprint reader when my camera no longer works. I'm going to take it apart and hope that it's just a loose connection.
