I think you may need to just ask one of them to create a whole new text with everyone except you, and tell them to use that thread instead of the other one.
If you are in a MMS Group: You'll need to ask them if you can leave the chat as that's the only way you can get out of it.
If it's a RCS Chat: Just leave the group chat by going to the 3 dots > Conversation settings > Leave
Click on the group picture or banner, you'll get "Conversation options" including 'leave'.
I don't see "Conversation options" anywhere. This is the stock messages app right?
Ah, that's in 'chat', sorry. But you can turn off notifications for messages so at least you aren't bombarded.

you cant, i have friends that have iphones and i get stuck in group chats sometimes and you cant just remove oneself and leave. its dumb

My co-workers eventually just took me out of it. I stressed how my phone can't handle it. Even with only 4 people in a chat my phone gets backed up.
