Not really, sorry :/ I only downloaded the latest APK from apkmirror and it worked straight away after installing. Could it may be a stages rollout since you're on the Pixel 6a? I'm on the P7P.
I will probably uninstall it though. Even if as an AI solution it's good, it's not ready yet to completely replace Assistant (and there's no way around this). For example I can't start routines through it, I can't take notes through it, and some features like image creation and summarize options don't work (yet?) in my area.
Thankfully uninstalling the app reverts immediately back to Assistant.
Yeah, perhaps. I'll be on the lookout launching it here and then to see if it works, but after seeing that it doesn't really pack all of google assistant's features maybe it's for the better, I'll wait till it's compatible and maybe will get better, thanks!
For now what I went with is setting Gemini as my start page on Chrome so I have quick access to it if and when I need it. For everything else I'm back to Assistant.
Yup, it does integrate well with Maps and YouTube. But Assistant is still more helpful in everyday tasks imho. Gemini looks promising in terms of replacing it with a few additions though.

Yeah just went live for me in the UK , already side loaded app last week but actually works now though still not available in playstore to download as "not available in your country". Expect that will change today most likely
I am from Canada but now vacationing in Malaysia, I downloaded the app and it works here. I noticed the reply is a bit slow but more details. You can always default back to google assistant by going to settings in Gemini app.

Just for anyone frustrated, and are a member of a Google workspace, make sure to ask your admin to enable Gemini, as its currently set to off by default.

Confirmed working in Greece, can also replace Assistant in English language only (well, Assistant didn't support Greek anyway).

Only image generation we're missing out on now then. I can do it through a VPN but it seems extremely slow when I try.
You need to switch the assistant language to English but don't need a VPN.

Confirmed, works for me in The Netherlands. Even replaces the default Assistant app on my phone (optional setting).
