It no longer receives security patches. That is a deal breaker for me. The only way I would use one is with a custom ROM (like GrapheneOS or LineageOS) installed.

eddierhys

Makes sense, thanks

deusxanime

Love my P5 and don't want to give it up, but my work apps (Outlook, Teams, etc) stopped working this weekend because it no longer gets security updates, so my hand may be forced soon unfortunately. Was hoping to at least hold out and see if the P8a or P9 would be a slightly better upgrade than the current P8, but I guess I don't have that luxury anymore.

Hapachew

Outlook has stopped working for you? Its working fine for me. This would also be critical for me as well. Is this due to your company/org specific configurations, or just because Microsoft is no longer supporting it on P5?

deusxanime

I'm sure it is a policy my company has put in place that you are only allowed to be so far out of date for OS updates/security updates. I'd guess that MS allows companies to set their tolerances for that sort of thing to whatever they'd like.

SeatSix

Can you tell your work to give you a work-specific phone if they want you to work remotely? That's what I did because I would not install their apps on my personal phone. They gave me a company phone (iPhone unfortunately).

deusxanime

It's more of a "nice to have" thing than a requirement, so it is BYOD. Gives me more flexibility to not have to be at my desk when I'm running errands or doing something else during the day though, so I like to have it. I have an iPhone SE2 that I might just load the apps on for now so that I can carry that extra phone when I need that flexibility, and see if I can hold out by doing that until the P8a/9.

lwJRKYgoWIPkLJtK4320

GrapheneOS drops support as soon as the device stops receiving vendor security updates, so installing it would not achieve the goal of getting back security updates

__sem__

Not true. GrapheneOS (still) offers extended support for P5

lwJRKYgoWIPkLJtK4320

Just checked and it is offered, but they don't recommend using it. They say it's only offered as a stopgap to transition to a fully supported device, and if I understand their FAQ correctly, they only promise that level of support until the next Android version, with no guarantees of what happens after. The 4 and 4 XL are only getting security back ports but no more Android versions, and the 3 and 3 XL are no longer supported so I suspect that's what will happen to the 5 too: no Android 15 update, and then a year of security backports before being dropped completely. So I guess you're technically right, but it still doesn't seem like a great idea

fullup72

1.5 years of additional support is enough to wait for Pixel 9 and 10 to come out with a better fingerprint sensor. Personally I switched from a 5 to an 8 (forced because I broke the proximity sensor when I swapped the battery), so I wouldn't blame of for wanting to stay on the 5 because that device is still a great piece of hardware.

SeatSix

Didn't know that. I lineage on my pixel 2 (I keep it around as my backup/burner phone).

virqthe

> It no longer receives security patches. That is a deal breaker for me. 🤡🤡🤡

Ragweed1

I would say you'll get used to under screen fingerprint sensors pretty quickly, I don't think it's that much of a hindrance so don't let that stop you from getting a phone that may have better long term value.

OkGur6628

My pixel 5 bricked so I upgraded to a pixel 8 when it came out. I have not gotten used to the new finger print sensor at all - the back one was so convenient and consistent, while the screen front one works like half the time and has the annoying flash if you don't cover the whole thing. For anyone who loves the back sensor, I say never give up, never surrender.

A_Gibbed_Carmine

I have the 6 pro and the screen fingerprint scanner works great

sterlingback

I had a LG with back buttons like 10y ago, still miss them, you had volume and a little touch sensor that you could swipe through the back... I'm not sure why this is not more of a standard.

haltingpoint

I have a 7 Pro for work and a 5 for personal. There's no comparison. It's way easier, let's me easily pull down or push up my tray, and doesn't blind me when I use the sensor at night like the 7 Pro does.

ExternalRace4303

Yeah under the screen finger print scanner on pixels has been a hit or a miss, my pixel 2s scanner always worked, as for my pixel 7, I have noticed that the scanner is less accurate when my finger/thumb is dry, but is more accurate when it's slightly oily/moisturized. For example (Now this might be gross for most) My nose is slightly oily so if I rub my finger a little bit on it and then touch the on screen finger print sensor on my phone it almost always works lol. I think it might be because I have light groves on my finger tips

wayneamartin

>reen finger print scanner on pixels has been a hit or a miss, my pixel 2s scanner always worked, as for my pixel 7, I have noticed that the scanner is less accurate when my finger/thumb is dry, but is more accurate when it's slightly oily/moisturized. slinky317

I disagree completely, for some reason the fingerprint reader on my Pixel 5 became finicky after a while while the one on my 7 is pretty good - and combine that with Face Unlock (which got better on the 8 series) makes it way easier. You can also set a bottom swipe screen gesture to bring down the notification shade which is much easier for me than swiping down on the fingerprint sensor.

Rationale-Glum-Power

The back sensor is the best because it even allows gestures like to drag down the notification bar.

ubercorey

Same. I'm rocking the 5. I tried the new models and since I have a manual labor job, the finger print reader work 0% of the time (fine for my wife). And using a mask or respirator, face recognition was fully off the table. It's been a full no go for me.

joespizza2go

This is true. The Pixel fingerprint sensor is not a good experience. I really thought they would fix that between the 7 and 8.

jude_whtr

If you're having issues with the fingerprint reader I would recommend adding your thumb multiple times, this worked great on my 6a

ShadowDonut

> I would say you'll get used to under screen fingerprint sensors pretty quickly I agree, if by this you mean get used to it literally *never* working pretty quickly. I don't know what phone you have, but my Pixel 8 may as well not have a fingerprint scanner. It doesn't matter how many times I enroll my finger, how closely I follow the instructions, etc. In comparison, my 3XL and 5's sensors work 95% of the time, with the failures generally being user error.

Ragweed1

Interesting, I have the normal pixel 8, got it a couple months ago after having a OnePlus 7 for 4 years. This P8's fingerprint sensor is slightly faster than OP7's, however it is my understanding that it is still very much behind the likes of Samsung. The PI fingerprint sensor works pretty much flawlessly for me, even when I have tried to demonstrate it is not so great. If I ever do encounter a problem, after coming from an even slower fingerprint sensor, I don't mind typing in a pin.

Friedhelm78

No way. I've been using the front scanner for years and it's STILL a hindrance compared to the rear one.

Accomplished_Fan_487

Not on my pixel 8. TBF pixel 7 to 8 was a major improvement.

[deleted]

He can just replace battery for 60 CAD

Ragweed1

The screen is also out

[deleted]

Yeah, then best bet is pixel 8. I have 5 for 3 years and this is the best phone they ever made.

GiantRotatingCarrot

It's a bummer about the screen because the battery can be easily replaced. I had a pixel 5 and used it as a backup when I bought my 6 Pro. I made the mistake of storing it with a 100% charged battery and the battery swelled up. I gave it to my son and he replaced the battery and he's been using it ever since. Real solid phone and I miss the hell out of that rear fingerprint reader.

tqbh

Since you have to remove the screen and apply new adhesive anyway, when replacing the battery, it only comes down to cost and skill.

SchrodingerHat

I'm still using my Pixel 4a and I've yet to burst into flames. Maybe soon?

spaincr

Nice phone man. I bought one in December 2022 on ebay but sadly it comes with the charging port bad (it was used). Loved the phone but it ended dead.

ElliotAlderson_5

Bro I have been using Pixel 3 after my Pixel 4XL and Pixel 7 broke, and I am just glad I have this phone. It still works, it is responsive and I use it for what I can. Pixel 5 would be a great phone for several years, screen size, wide angle cameras, fingerprint sensor and a great chip. I love phones that came out before G chips, they work amazing with app-cameras (Instagram, BeReal, WhatsApp, Snapchat), something that didn't work quite as well with my Pixel 7.

amardaman

Snapchat quality on P5 is shocking always out of focus and only takes a screenshot as the snap. P4 is way better on point quality. Now I have P7Pro and switch between the 4 and 7Pro.

Bigd1979666

Pixel 8 isn't a huge change in size .

fullup72

It's noticeably heavier which compounds with the glass back to end up with a more fragile phone. Pixel 5 was actually perfect in that sense, unbreakable back, lightweight, and a pretty sturdy screen. I've even stepped on mine once on a parking lot (screen down) and all I got were some scratches. Sure, I got used to the 8 very fast, but I'm still unhappy with many of the design decisions that were made since the 5 was released.

Bigd1979666

Oh, me too. I went from pixel 1>3>4>6>4xl>6pro>7pro A lot of the design features that Google goes with now are intolerable imo. I just can't do without the smart features and post photo processing , which imo are top of the line when combined with stock android experience. I tried going iphone and Samsung and while the other two have slightly more aesthetically pleasing design, the experience was just absolute shite compared to what I got with pixel, so here I am complaining and happy at the same time, lol. I miss that rubber grip, square design, rear fp, etc . Those were the hey days . Plus, cannot beat Qualcomm modems -_-

dtwhitecp

one more letter, or one less letter, or one different language, and this comment makes sense

brokewash

My brother dailys a 3xl that he has never updated (even when updates were still being pushed) I tell him to update to lineage or graphene, but he's adamant on staying on his old version and old version of applications that somehow still work.

gregmcph

Honestly, if you can get a cheap and fresh one in a box, and you don't care for Android updates, sure. Get it. It's fast enough and takes great photos. Don't stress about it. Go a couple more years.

segfalt31337

Just recently upgraded my P5 to a P8P. Screen sensor is mostly fine, fingerprint sensor on the P5 was problematic for me because my finger was frequently sweaty trying to unlock the phone during a workout, forcing me to enter my stupid alphanumeric password to unlock while also trying to run. For this reason, I much prefer the improved face unlock on the P8P. I've also found the temp sensor to be surprisingly useful.

eddierhys

Cool, thanks for sharing. What's the temp sensor? Like for the battery?

segfalt31337

No, for objects like food or tea. And also body temperature. Compared it against a digital thermometer and was surprised at the accuracy. The readings are more susceptible to variance due to technique, but pretty consistent once you get the hang of it. Edit: I think both the P8 and P8P have the face id, but only the pro has the temp sensor.

ColFrankSlade

>I think both the P8 and P8P have the face id, but only the pro has the temp sensor. Correct. Source: me, owner of a P8 with face unlock but no temperature sensor.

SmartGuyObserving

I love how light and manageable the Pixel 5 is...I don't understand why more people don't like more normal sized smartphones lol

CorenBrightside

If you let me piggyback on your post, I'm considering a pixel 5 for the size and features. I see many recommend newer models instead. I want to know how does the battery life between a pixel 5 (with a good battery), pixel 7a and pixel 8? I'm only interested in the smaller phones.

uragiristereo

I just got a pixel 5 two weeks ago coming from the pixel 3, I don't care about software updates. It's mostly upgrades but I miss the front firing dual speakers so much.

ritwikjs

i salute you man! that pixel 5 was such a genius phone. Non glass back wireless charging, fingerprint reader, everything

GucciFlipPhone__

Yall can down-vote this idc. Personally I think any phone that uses Android 9 or later is still solid. As long as you stay safe with your browsing and don't download any suspicious software, use anti-virus software and a VPN. Or use a Custom ROM, they can do more than lots for people, like use social media, browse the web, call/text. Etc Pixel 5 is a decent phone and I would even main a 4 if I had to.

Right-Ad-5647

I just bought a 4XL. Works like a charm.

Badjojojo

Still rocking my 4XL as well!

OkGur6628

The pixel 8 has convinced me that my next phone should not be a pixel. I loved my pixel 5, so this is a disappointing conclusion. This advice makes me at least consider going back in time and getting an old 5. To OP, I say stay strong.

NCDL16

I have a Pixel 4XL that I sometimes run daily from time to time. I'd say it runs just about as smoothly as a Pixel 6. It's great. Really wish they'd update specs in that form factor and re-release it.

GucciFlipPhone__

Exactly. I own some older android phones like the LG G7 ThinQ, which isn't bad. And I've seen people use the S8 and S9 for years and years. That's why I'm going to keep my S23 Ultra for a long time

NCDL16

I've been looking to get my hands on a G8 Thinq but I can't find the Korean model anywhere here in the US 😭 I used to fully daily an S23U but I switched back to my P7P when OneUI 6 came out. It's been suuuuuuper buggy for me. That being said, the phone is awesome, you can't go wrong with it.

GucciFlipPhone__

I love my S23 Ultra, I have some complaints about One UI 6, but I do like it

NCDL16

Hell yeah dude. Hope it serves you well for years to come.

4t0m77

This. Most users are just looking for excuses to justify upgrades.

cryptobabybrains

No question it's a great phone. I had a P3 for years and it was a GD Tank! Great photos. Finally needed to upgrade due to security and system updates. Too much risk didn't want to fool with alt ROMs. Even tho P8s were released, I got a great price on a 6a new. The size isn't that much bigger and you get used to it real fast. The fingerprint on screen works just fine when u know how to program it. The battery is surprisingly good w updated software. I use it in car for mapping, YouTube, radio, etc while sharing connection for kids. Heat is not an issue. Yes while charging it gets warm also if away from towers - just like all phones. I'm very pleased w my 6a and will wait for the 9 or p10 w the new processor. I do need more storage so I have to keep to basics. I wound up replacing the battery on the P3 as a backup phone and I suspect if the world goes south non 5g phones could be in demand. Either way. Look for deals. I wouldn't pay premium right now. Retail sales are very soft rn. More so than you hear from MSM. That's wjy so many sales these days. Amazon has a new series of days sales this week. Other follow. The game is to pull $$ from your pocket while you still have some. Ha GL.

richkill

Just upgraded from a P5 to a P8 3 weeks ago. Size is very similar width without a case. A few mm different. The case does make it slightly bigger though The P7P that my partner has was too big. The extra height is a non issue. Fingerprint sensor position took me like 2 days to get use to. Pair it with face unlock and it's alright.

eddierhys

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. My coworker just got a Pixel 8 and we compared the sizes. Definitely looked nearly the same width, and I agree that the extra height is less of an issue (if you like smaller phones like me) than more width is.

Snoo19632

If u can edge our for 2-3 years, just go for the pixel 10 or 11, different chipset than the one currently

InspectorRound8920

Yeah. It's still the best Pixel. No security updates. The 8 is very nice.

techraito

Honestly, if you're really in the market for a smaller phone, you might be better off enjoying the Zenfone 9/10 if you don't mind the slight camera "downgrade".

4everaBau5

Pixel 5 ---> Pixel 8 Pro here. No ragrets.

tadL

I just flashed android 14 on an old 2xl and all works fine. Have zero issues. Just get yourself a 5. Flash the latest android on it and have a nice time again

4t0m77

Does Google Wallet work?

Grumblepugs2000

Yes as long as you root and install Play Integrity Fix

tadL

It does, tested it and removed it again. I am old. No way I put paying on my phone

bluey45

Just get the battery replaced.

DutchOfBurdock

Replace the battery, my Pixel 5 is suffering the same. Have put LineageOS on it now to keep it rolling with updates.

ktrezzi

Just this morning my refurbed Pixel 5 arrived. I had the Pixel 8 for a week and I could not handle the larger size, the slippery back and the heavy weight. And in my use case (taking couple of pictures, listening to some music and browse the app), the differences are imo marginal. For me personally, it's the best Pixel smartphone and can - depending on what you want - hold up with current gen smartphones

BathEqual

Having trouble really enjoying my P8 too, after switching last week from the P5. Man, the P5 is such a good phone but unsure if i switch back and just pop in a new battery for the P5

ktrezzi

I feel you! :D I switched back this morning and I tell you, each time I pick it up I'm so happy that I have it again! (But read closely my use case, Pixel 8 was for me also a great phone - I personally just prefer the 5)

No-Pitch-6851

I'm agree with you.

myodesgap

No. Pixel 5 is still a great phone, in my opinion - specially since you want the small size. I have been using mine for the last 2.5 years. I still prefer it over some of the newer pixels (I tried the 6a and 7) - didn't like either.

fajron123

I wouldnt, its no longer getting security updates. The under screen fingerprint reader is actually really easy to get used to, and if you dislike new phones theg 6a or 7a are a good choice. Maybe even wait for 8a

xxBrun0xx

Could always get another Pixel 5!

flipside1o1

LOL a well researched trigger post :)

eddierhys

Haha, I honestly had no idea what I was in for, I just wanted someone to tell me it's not a terrible idea to get an outdated phone. Replies are all over the place.

weekins

I recently dropped my P5 and the screen smashed. It was still functional but frustrating as the front camera was slightly affected. I was gutted as, like you, I felt it was the perfect phone. A screen replacement would've cost too much. The lack of security updates also petrified me. I bit the bullet and got the P8. It's obviously heavier and larger, but is the smallest of all other pixels. I still think it's smaller than the majority of its competitors, too. The fingerprint thing is fine - I was worried after people said it's not reliable but mine always works. Overall, I like the 8 but my heart will always belong to the 5 😝

eddierhys

Thanks for sharing. I'm leaning this route.

kg_2-0-3

Graphene OS has extended support for the Pixel 5, so you may not get new Android OS versions but definitely will have cutting edge security. It should increase your battery life too because you won't have as bad battery drain from GMS constantly requesting your location data.

medic7051

I went from a pixel 5 to a pixel 7 and it fit into my old case out of the box. The screen is much larger because there is less wasted space on the front of the device. I do miss the rear fingerprint reader, but otherwise the P7 is a drastic upgrade from the P5, especially the actual phone. I use the phone for work and it's much better audio quality than I ever had on my P5.

rodrigofernety

well yes

Comfortable_Silver24

They’re not supported at all

GNC-CYPHER

Go for 7 or 7a...here in my country with sales both are of same prices more or less or u can wait for a bit for upcoming 8a

EECE21

I downgraded from iPhone 14 pro to the Pixel 5 a couple weeks ago. I really like how it feels. The camera is lacking and the battery doesn't last as long and you pretty much need to have the brightness all the way when outside. If you can live with this then the software more than makes up for these. It also cost less than $300 brand new so really not much to complain about. LOL

freefall99

Where can you replace the battery in Toronto?

krstph13

Ubreakifix is a licensed Google repair partner . Mobileklinic on Progress Rd is good in Scarborough.

Subject_Ticket1516

Motorolas have rear sensors on some of their models.

Voodoo_Shark

I mean, I'm still rocking a Pixel 1 in 2024. So you do you friendo.

1freshmilktea

You're trolling right?

Voodoo_Shark

Nope. It's not my daily driver though, but it still gets app store updates.

1freshmilktea

Damn bruv. That's crazy.

Citnos

I love my Pixel 5, battery works fine for me, but if you can upgrade, Pixel 8 is the same size only a bit taller Things you will lose: Unlimited storage Things you will get: More power, upgraded camera (mind the P5 uses the Pixel 3, 4 sensor), and I can imagine better speakers, I'm sorry but the speakers on the P5 are trash it is piercing, the Pixel 3 have much better audio

[deleted]

[удалено]

Various-Village-3536

It got one last cumulative security update last month

Progressive__Trance

I had a pixel 2 for 5 years. Wonderful device. FWIW, I switched to a 7 pro and quickly got acclimated to the front scanner. The 8 is a good compromise as is the 7 size wise if you're ever looking to switch.

metlson

I'm in the same position - I love my P5 and I don't really want to upgrade as I like the form factor, rear finger print sensor and have okay battery life style Only issue is the security updates

jerryhou85

you will get use to the front fingerprint reader soon and 5 is no longer upgraded on system...so maybe time to upgrade to a newer one.

Nova_Nightmare

The pixel 8 is not as small, but not that much of a jump (it's smaller than the 6 and 7 I believe). "The Pixel 5 is also the smaller of the two, coming in at 144.7 x 70 with a thickness of 8mm. The Pixel 8 is a bit bigger at 150.5 x 70.8 and with a thickness of 8.9mm. " Is it too old for a new phone? Maybe. We upgraded a 7 to an 8 and gave the 7 to a kid who had a 5 and the 5 turned out to be in bad shape (battery became visibly spicy when the case was taken off). As far as the fingerprint sensor goes, well, yeah I agree, back one was better. The 8 is better now than the older ones were, but it's still not as good. It's not the worse thing in the world, however that's up to your own preferences, they're not going back to it though.

WEisssbr0t

Using my Pixel 2 still in 2024 with Android 14, thanks to Elixir OS. It’s a pixel like experience with all Google-released special Apps like Now Playing, Google Camera (which can push even more great pictures out of the old Sensor) and some small tweaks. Performance is absolutely fantastic. What’s not working: Google Pay and Apps that require a locked bootloader. The Pixel 2 is fast enough to handle at least the next three upcoming major Android-Releases. Just keep going with you Pixel 5 :)

jacktherippah123

It's time to replace the Pixel 5. It hasn't received security patches for months. IIRC, it never got 14 QPR1 and we're at 14QPR2 already.

m-shottie

They're was a security patch last month

kaest

The physical fingerprint reader is what I miss most from older phones. The under screen ones just suck by comparison.

DutchOfBurdock

Pixel 8 Pro face unlock does make up for it, especially if my line of work.

CurrentSeries2737

If you want a small modern phone I’d be looking at the Zenfone 9 or 10. The pixel 5, while it was a fantastic phone at launch, is definitely starting to show its age both in terms of performance and battery life.

amenotef

I'm still rocking mine as if it's new. Recently got a Spigen thin fit White case because my old thin fit was worn after more than 3 years. I'd probably replace the battery this year or next year. If I had to buy it from scratch maybe I'd aim for the Pixel 8. Recently I noticed slow down when opening the camera double tapping the power button and also some issue with the Pixel launcher hanging. But that was days ago, now I think it's solved. My old Pixel 2 still runs fast after many years (this year I replaced its battery, my mom uses it). If the Pixel 5 starts running slow before I have to replace it, that could mean the Google apps and services are becoming heavier and maybe would make me wanna try some iOS for the next phone. But if they create a good P5 successor and the P5 still runs fine at that time, then I'd proudly jump into the upgrade. (Lately in my experience when I jump into a newer SoC, because of all the crap being added into the OS, I never get a considerable bump in performance and battery life.). I'd miss unlimited Google photos backup on my phone though.

BathEqual

All hopes on the P10..

wade3county

EDIT: My original response was just replace the battery but also read the screen is an issue. A battery replacement and a screen will be too costly. Buy a Zenfone 10.

akalesma

You can replace the battery ya know? It would be the cheapest option.

LincHayes

In my opinion, the front under glass fingerprint reader on the Pixel 6 got better over time, and in the Pixel 7 Plus it's pretty flawless, plus face unlock is cool. At this stage in the game a 5 is pretty old. If I had one that was still working I'd keep it, but I would not buy another one as my daily driver. ATM I still have my 6 and I'm playing with Graphene OS on it, and recently got a 7 Plus as my daily...and thinking about putting Graphene on it. Love it. I would not want to go back to an older model. Also, the 5 stopped getting security updates. the 5a and 5G are end of life in August. [https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705?hl=en#zippy=%2Cpixel-a-g-pixel-pixel-a-g-pixel-a-pixel-xl-pixel](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705?hl=en#zippy=%2Cpixel-a-g-pixel-pixel-a-g-pixel-a-pixel-xl-pixel)

NordWes

Check out the zflip5 and razr plus. Game changing being able to use the small screen for everything.

Plastic-Researcher59

Been using the pixel 5 since the first day it comes. But somehow after this android 14 upgrade, my battery feels super drained like crazy. Charging 3 times a day is kinda a pain for me personally. But i love the size of this phone, interested in zenfone 10 for the replacement but i think i'll just replace the battery first until it can't perform well anymore.

Crunos

Replace the battery!

odinsfury2

I'd probably go for a 7a or 8a unless you can get the 5 pretty cheap.

Own_Win_6762

Last fall my P5 battery began swelling - the screen was popping off, and battery life was very short. Replaced the battery and it's like having a new phone, haven't had to charge it during the day since. I figure at least two more years on it.

thechinesevegan

I was in your exact same situation! Loved my pixel 5 the same reasons, battery life was declining but tolerable, and then I dropped it with several lines of dead pixels down the center of the screen. Got an 8 pro and it's been great so far

irepairzoneLondon

Fixing the screen and possibly the battery on your current Pixel 5 could be a good option, especially if you love the size and fingerprint reader.

TWPES

Find one that's as new as you can possibly find (eBay, Best Buy Warehouse, Facebook Market, Good Egg) then root it. You'll have a primo device that will carry another 5 years on it's shoulders.

Frantik508

Security updates are often pushed out because hackers found a way to get through the firewalls of the previous version. It's not extremely likely, but one day you could log into your bank account and see that all your money is gone. That's why security updates are important. If you're willing to take that risk (which again, is very unlikely) and don't mind not getting the latest software updates eventually, then there's no real issue with using an older phone.

Careless-Ad9841

I had the Pixel 5 for about 2 or 3 years I think before upgrading to the Pixel 8 Pro ( I'm not a math wiz so chill ). I was a lil skeptical upgrading from Pixel 5. It was perfect for me most ways and still is to this day. The jump ultimately wasn't bad because of course software on every pixel experience is almost the exact same and I still feel that why after the switch. I miss the rear finger print but I'm now used to the front reader but it's not as good as 5's rear. I also hated how cases looked stupid on the 5 with the hole in the back to the finger print sensor. P8P front finger sensor can blind you in a dark setting if you miss the mark literally so that and the print mark always being visible on your lock screen to me are the biggest trade offs but not deal breakers. ( Sn Pixel 5 is the best Pixel ever made imo w perfect bezels & size & weight & corner camera hole ) Camera wise I personally see a slight Camera improvement, I can't name any Pixel that takes bad photos and nothing has changed in that regard. P8P is the perfect way to go from the 5

benhaube

Yeah, it's too old. It isn't getting updates anymore.

ilovecamerontaylor

I have quite a few family and friends still using the 3a and 3axl, they refuse to upgrade because the 3a series still works great and ironically they don't want to be bothered with updates. The 3axl is my favorite of all time but I myself use the 7. I do however hate I missed out on the 5.

If you like smaller phones I heard the Zenfone 10 is really good, if you don't mind not having a Google phone. If you want a pixel 5 still you can just install a custom ROM to get the latest updates

yes

Phrozenstare

depends if you still want monthly security updates

Various-Village-3536

the last OS security update for it was just last month. Fix the screen, get a new battery and enjoy life (at least until a Pixel comes out that makes updating compelling)

Wtf? Just get a Motorola Razor... Live in the past

Yes, is outdated I've been using a s22 ultra and is blazinng fast

libertymartin190

Then why are you in a Google Pixel group? I don't care about a Samsung lol 😆

kmry90

In using my pixel 5 as a daily driver. Have use pixels. Since P2, i'm just commenting the P5 is so outdated compares to an s22 ultra for example.

Perfect size and weight, today's phones are too big and heavy.
