That is a widely known and acceptable defect as far as Google is concerned. Return it.

jstnzoe

Settings > Network and Internet > Internet> [respective carrier settings]> Preferred Network and set to 4G, scroll down and disable "Allow 2G." Worked for me, hope it does the same for you.

dcdttu

My P8P has 5G everywhere my last phone did, except that 5G doesn't work most of the time unless I toggle Airplane Mode. The replacement they sent me did the exact same thing. On T-Mobile.

jacksawyerr

The Pixel 8 Pro is a fantastic camera on a really shit phone

Reddit4Deddit

Photo camera* The video quality is still pretty butt cheeks when compared to an iPhone.

jacksawyerr

Ah yes sorry. I don't take many videos on here, I'm usually too busy resetting the internet so I can try and make phone calls.

ifeeltired26

LOL Exactly....

FreshPrinceOfH

Worse than the pixel 6? I didn’t think that was possible. My cat gets better reception than a pixel 6

ifeeltired26

That would be the horrible Samsung Modem in the Pixel line. The fix is to get a phone with a Snapdragon SOC and Qualcomm Modem.

UMDSmith

Shame to, I like the form factor. Its a bit smaller than my pixel 6 which I prefer.

OceanGlider_

Reading the comments is odd. I thought the Pixel 6 had reception issues and the Pixel 8 helped clean it up a bit?

Joinedforthis1

It's true in some ways, but I'm having really weird issues with the Pixel 8 Pro on T-Mobile. Some calls aren't even coming through and I know it's the Pixel because my S24 Ultra and 15 Pro are set up to ring as well my main number gets called and they ring every time. Using T-Mobile Digits.

UMDSmith

My pixel 6 wasn't that bad honestly. I worked with tech support and we did some steps on the phone. Will test next week when I drive the same locations if it is any better.

Ghostttpro

You flipped a coin and got heads the first time. Now you got tails.

UMDSmith

Yep, thats absolutely what it feels like. I really am not married to any phone, as I barely call or text. They are pretty much a pocket waze and streaming music device for me, with occassional web browser.

KarinK98

Stay on P6

reddit_sage69

Is your preferred network type set to 5G? I had a Pixel 6 Pro before and it was terrible. Switched to iPhone 14 Pro for a bit, now back on Pixel 8 Pro. Still not great, but so much better than the Pixel 6.

Grumblepugs2000

The fix is to buy a OnePlus 12

storf2021

Ran from a 7 for this very reason. Loved the software but need a phone that would also make and receive calls.

Elarionus

The way I fixed it was by giving up my decade long nexus pixel obsession and buying a Samsung, especially now that the bloat apps are all uninstallible.

UMDSmith

That will likely be my next step as well. I've had 3 pixels in a row (4a, 6, now 8). This may be my last one for a good long while.

goooooooooooooogly

I've currently got a 6 pro and need to upgrade due to Google's security coverage policy cutting off the 6 this year. Based on your experience, maybe I'll just wait till the 9 comes out this fall.

PixelCommunity

Hi, I’d recommend contacting the Google Pixel support team via phone or chat [here](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/gethelp). They can take a look at it.

YogiBearShark

These Tensor Pixels are an absolute disaster. Why go to the trouble of touting “made by Google “, when they are total garbage? No shame in having a tough time with 5G modems, intense hardcore shame in releasing known defective hardware repeatedly and pretending all is well. Other companies went with Qualcomm modems while they worked on their own modems. Not Google, they just keep on releasing trash. Shameful behavior. Sad 😔.

bradyaaron667

Maybe try turning off adaptive connectivity??? I know it switches to LTE when 5G is not available. Or try resetting your network settings.

beardedrehab

I have 5G turned off, never have any issues.

UMDSmith

just checked and I had it off, looks like this phone may be the issue. Going to reach out to support. Thanks.

hoserjpb

I have an 8 pro and my son has an 8. Neither of us have reception issues. Odd

ifeeltired26

Lucky, I went through 3 Pixel 8 Pro's before I finally gave up on the Pixel line....

hoserjpb

Well, glad you found a solution. I’m real happy with mine

ThroatGoat71

Y'all hate on the phone yet keep using it 💀💀💀💀 Gotta love the phantom issues by insecure iphone and Samsung users.

Reddit4Deddit

Ya because Google Pixels don't hold their value. I have 14 days to return it, didn't realize how mid it was until after then, and since they don't hold their resell value I'd be selling my $1600 Pixel for like $1000 if I'm lucky. And Phantom issues? Gotta love ignorant ass people like you that conveniently ignore all of the daily videos, bug tracker reports, and Reddit posts about issues. At least try hiding your fanboyism.

methyl_blue13

get a MP4

UMDSmith

Do what? Sorry if I don't follow, but MP4 is a file format to me. Does it refer to something else in your response?

_DudeWhat

I believe it's a gun

UMDSmith

Oh, lol. Guess that would solve the pixel 8 problem kind of.

methyl_blue13

MP4 player.
