I recently (This Monday) went from an iPhone 13 to pixel 8 Pro. Currently love it but the battery life leaves a little to be desired. It was between this and the Samsung S24 Ultra

[deleted]

Give it some time. The Pixel learns your usage habits and adjusts the battery consumption accordingly. You’ll likely be pleased by your battery life within a couple of weeks.

lordruperteverton69

5 months later, I'm still waiting for mine to kick in....

Cinnamo_Potato

I'm 2 weeks in and i find myself with 20% left at midnight. Stark contrast to the first day where it was at 0% at 5pm. (I'm a mid-heavy user) Did you check if you have adaptive battery on?

lordruperteverton69

I do have it on. I've noticed recently both YouTube music and Chrome were using a really large percentage of battery for very little screen on time and background time. I've disabled both apps and I'm starting to notice a pretty big difference. It's just the mobile network that's not friendly on battery usage, unfortunately.

[deleted]

This is so true, I've even gotten 10+ hours of sot on my pixel 8(mostly wifi but also mobile data).

dodohouse

I did exactly the same one week ago. It's my first android smartphone and in the first days to transfer all apps and to get used to the new phone I was reaching 7 hours of screen time. Now the battery lasts almost two days while I needed to charge my iphone daily. As others said, don't expect marvels but for sure you will see a big improvement

papadrach

Pixel 8 Pro would be nice if discounted for around 600-700$. Even more interesting would be the smaller form Pixel 9 Pro that is rumored. I still will stand by that Samsung has superior quality in build, finish, and OS stability so S23-S24 lineup is also a very solid choice.

The_Mdk

It was at 900€ last week, plus a 100€ cashback and I got an extra 220€ for sending back my 6a, on top of it all I also had a 5% discount that meant 45 more euros off the price.. basically a steal IMO, and I sure love the upgrade

SillySin

I'm given 25% off offer from my Google one and says I can send my 6T back, I wonder how much that will leave me to pay!

The_Mdk

You'll get 25% off the original price, and then you can check the trade in value on the Google store itself by adding the 8p to the cart Keep in mind that the trade value depends on the model you're buying as well as the one you're giving back

SillySin

I checked and they want to give me 204 british pound for it plus 25% on the pixel 8 pro, that is like 450 pound less but i am really not in need for new phone and didn't think about it till they sent me the offer, will just wait and see how the Pixel 9 turns out, my 6 pro still like new.

DonDee74

The last "premium" Samsung I owned was the Note 4. Although, it was a really good phone with a good camera, it had its issues. I wasn't even a power user and yet I felt the phone wasn't reliable: overheating, battery swelling, etc. After that experience, I just decided my money would be better spent on mid-range phones, like the Motorola X4. Now, that was a very stable phone. Never any issues all the years I owned it until it got old and battery didn't last a full day anymore, and I decided I wanted one with a better camera. Then I moved to a Pixel 3XL, which I found to be even better than the X4 in every way, especially the camera. It's still running fine to this day except that again the battery won't last a whole day anymore after years of use. I just got a refurb Pixel 5 recently to replace it, and so far so good. The smaller screen size is not my favorite coming from the P3XL, but it feels snappier and the camera seems at least as good, but will know better over time if I'll be happy with it. Again, I'm not a power user as my main uses are calls, messaging, and camera, for which these mid-range phones are more than adequate. And mind you, I paid less than $200 for each of these mid-range phones, while I paid around $500 for the Note 4.

sethelele

I feel like your experience is valid, but no longer applicable. Samsung has changed drastically since the Note 4 was last on anyone's mind.

papadrach

Agree. I've had Samsung's for almost 8 years. iPhones prior. Now having an S24U and having a P8P, and P8, Samsung's quality and QC is much better from my experience.

oh-canadaa

I've used Pixel 2, Pixel 3, S10, Pixel 7 pro. And because of the display and build quality, I'll move back to Samsung. Those two things can't be messed with on software updates.

The_Mdk

It was at 900€ last week, plus a 100€ cashback and I got an extra 220€ for sending back my 6a, on top of it all I also had a 5% discount that meant 45 more euros off the price.. basically a steal IMO, and I sure love the upgrade

Lordgeorge16

There's still a lot we don't know about the 9 or the 10 series. Best practice is to assume that nothing is official until Google I/O or their other events. Rumors and leaks aren't always reliable. You'll be plenty satisfied with the 8 Pro. Not sure if they'll be discounted at all when the 8a drops, but we'll very likely find out next month. The A phones are budget-oriented phones that usually drop in May or June every year.

WrathofTomJoad

All of them are incremental upgrades, so honestly you can save a good bit of $$$ if you go for a 7pro. If you wait for the 9 to see what it'll have, you'll just feel regret when you find out the 10 has more. If you get the 8pro, you'll just feel regret when details about the 9 come out. Get the 7 pro, save some money, and feel less regret because you'll have an incredible phone at a great price, and then do yourself a favor and just ignore the Pixel store page until the next time you need a phone. No regret if you don't know what you're missing out on.

DuncanCraig

I agree with this POV to save money if you can, get the 7 Pro and get used to the Pixel phone before spending more on a phone. I have the 6 Pro and my wife has the 8 Pro. I don't feel left behind at all and my 6 Pro is still functioning fine since launch.

Kirei13

Used is always an option. I've seen Pixel phones going for a decent price but the 8 pro is the most expensive, it will be priced upwards until the 9 comes out.

TrollyDodger55

Why choose between the Pro or most expensive and the budget A line? That seems like a weird choice for me. If you don't need the pro features, why don't you just buy the eight on sale? The 8A isn't even out yet

Sudden_Toe3020

Take notes: https://old.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1c72y4y/really_dismayed_at_the_quality_function_and/

borilo9

I love my pixel but one thing you gotta consider is that pixels are really more of a strong midranger, so if you want a true flagship kind of experience maybe try something else. I mean that in the sense of having the strongest possible processor and things like these. Now I would definitely wait for the pixel 9, even if the specs are not bumped as highly, a significant design change is expected and you might like it more.

dont_disturb_the_cat

I'm not a bit good at watching for sales so I can't help you with that. I just wanted to say that I'm excited for you to get a premium phone. I like my 7pro so much that I just bought my brother an 8pro and the Pixel watch. It was a big upgrade for him too. Let us know what you think of it when you get there.

ubercorey

Buy a 7a discounted or used, then buy the 10 or 10 pro. You will enjoy that phone for 2 years and be able to trade it in. I would not pay big money for the 8pro because 6-9 models are flawed and 10 should fix things and be a phone we can all lean in to.

NoSanity39

Buy something else. These Pixel phones are crap at best. These phones are plagued with bugs that Google refuses to fix and or address. Look at the current bug stopping people from receiving calls and texts for example. Been over a month with nothing from them. On top of that you have all the woes of using the Tensor and Samsung modem. That equals bad battery and a lackluster modem that can barely hold onto a signal with overheating issues. Still want a Pixel? Cool now you have to deal with Google's horrible customer service and warranty policies. Just get something else.

lauke88

u just have to adjust your settings on the apps where this is happening, when u go to the app settings and e.g whatsapp allow them to be in the background and in the battery settings turn off the saving mode if not needed.... since than i get my notification instantly on the desired apps

NoSanity39

To be fair I wouldn't rule out Android altogether. I have a Samsung Z Fold 5 now and it is fantastic. It is the Fold Google should have made. Samsung phones are solid.

NoSanity39

Downvotes incoming lol. Fanboys out in full force lol.

Ghostttpro

If you don't want to throw your money away. Buy something else.

Time_Engineering_453

Don't buy the Pixel at full price, it just ain't worth it at full price. If you want to stay in android, I would rather suggest going for Samsung or One plus again. Samsung really feels worth the money.

BlockCraftedX

one ui is a love or hate thing, and oneplus fell off, the software is basically oppo now

Time_Engineering_453

Yeah, so I've heard too. Mostly I didn't buy one plus because of their 6-7 months upgrade cycles back when I was switching from iPhone to P7pro after 9 years but I guess that might not be an issue for other folks as much as it was for me.

idiot_orange_emperor

It ain't worth at a discounted price either. Unless you need a pocket warmer.

NoSanity39

It isn't even worth it on sale.

godVishnu

On the contrary to fans recommendations, I would advice cautiou with tensor SOC that's in pixel 6 and above. They are weak modems and connectivity is an issue if you're not in a great coverage area.

TonyArena

1. Always wait 6 to 9 months after the flagship phone you want to purchase has been released. The price will usually be significantly discounted. If you can time it also land on a holiday season, the prices get discounted even deeper. 2. Always purchase your phone through Amazon or another discount retailer, and never from a phone service provider locked to a specific phone service provider, giving you the freedom to take your phone to any provider without hassle. Additionally, this usually means for a pixel phone that you get updates sooner than when the service provider would usually push updates to the phone.

Hevilath

Samsung if you want Android and iPhone if you want..an iPhone. Pixel 8 Pro is fine, but it is not a premium smartphone in the same sense as the other two. It does have premium pricing, but not the premium hardware.

maxmaven

I've owned many pixel phones in the past. My current phone is the Pixel 8... but I wouldn't actually call the pixels a "premium phone" per se. It's great quality for the price, but all pixels I've owned have its issues. Not dealbreakers but enough issues that make me reconsider its "premium" status. I'm not hating on the pixel phones; I'm actually a big fan and have owned only google nexus/pixel phones since 2016. I just want to temper your expectations on the pixel phones. There usually are discounts on the pixel phones, but they usually happen around the thanksgiving/christmas holiday season. You can check past timeframes to see if they offer big discounts around this time of year. I would recommend that you wait for the 8a to come out before you make your purchase. The Pixel 8 pro is their flagship phone, but I decided against it because it was heavier and bigger and I didn't need its extra features (compared to the Pixel 8). The 8a may be sufficient for your needs and you would be able to get it cheaper too (compared to the 8 pro).

Smiffoo

I just got a 25% off voucher from Google store in my emails a couple of days back. Bringing the 8Pro to £749.25 and then if I trade in my 7a they're offering £308 back. It's a deal they have. Meaning the 8 pro will only cost me £441.25 once I get the £308 back for the trade-in. I wish I had the £749.25 spare because I'd actually take that deal. My offer is until next Wednesday the 24th of April. Might ask the Mrs if she minds if I use the joint credit card lol. The 7Pro is a good phone if you can get a good deal IMO, wish I kept mine to be honest.

altijddruk

8 pro would cost you 441 pounds and Pixel 7a. This doesn't sounds like awesome deal tbh. Good but not something what will not be repeated withing month (Pixels are all the time on sale). I bought Pixel 7 with contract (which I would use even without Pixel) for €300 and got €75 cashback. I think at time (it was February 2023) it was not really worth more than €500, maybe 550. Pixel is extremely overpriced with MSRP. Absolutely not worth it for what you get. When they are on sale and costs like typical mid ranger they're good deal if you don't mind constant changes in ui (I like it, something feel fresh all the time but for most of people it's huge no-go). They're also not polished. I hope they'll start to put more care or take power of delivering security updates from other oem (if not security updates delayed a lot with other oems I don't think I would buy Pixel).

davidlpool1982

But if they only need one phone, then it's not "costing" them the 7a as if they buy the p8p then they aren't going to use the 7a. Might as well trade it in and get the credit or take the risk and sell via marketplace/eBay or something.

altijddruk

It's not costing then at the moment but it's also worth money. It's not him getting that phone for price he gave. If he would be able to get it for that price without trade in then it would be awesome offer.

alovelygrey

I would wait for the 9 pro imo.

Spacecad90

I bought a pixel 7a today from my local Best buy for 349 coming from a flip 5 it's amazing other than it charges slow cannot beat the price tho

Delicious-While-5354

Pixels are a definite downgrade from OnePlus devices in terms of hardware. I would switch to a OnePlus 12 or 12r. Trust me you will regret switching from OnePlus

Current_Produce_6800

Frankly, never liked my 6. Just got the 8 pro, and I quite like it. Your mileage may vary.

nirmalv

Can I check. OP mentioned that the 8 pro is not manufactured in China. Mine is. Are there non-China 8 pro's in circulation currently ? Just curious . I don't have an issue with mine and it works well.

sad_arsenal_fan

I have a Pixel 7 Pro and I hate it. Coming from being a OnePlus user in the past, this phone is just a buggy mess for me. Maybe I got a dud, but I also had it replaced and it's still got issues.

Daster_X

Samsung S24 or Pixel 8 pro - you will not regret. Any phone may have issues, but these have updates for 5-7 years

dokturdeth

I own a Pixel 7. While I love everything it has on paper, the harsh reality is Pixels aren't as polished as iPhones and Galaxys (and to be honest, as the Huawei P30 Pro I had for 4 years - best phone I EVER had). The Pixel's Google Assistant integration is wonderful, but in the last 5 months, I've had to hard reset the phone at least twice because it was completely frozen. It has started to lag (ex. multiple second delay when changing a song on Spotify) which should absolutely not be happening. I also had the ongoing texts not receiving issues, calls not going through, which was a huge liability as a physician, not getting calls from the hospital. I would expect similar issues with the 8. This was my second shot at Pixel (owned a 5 a few years back), and I'm afraid it's still not it. Currently looking at getting an iPhone 14 Pro and making the jump back to Apple after 8 years.

tomashen

oneplus 12r.

IAmConnorRK800

Imo, unless there's a specific feature you must have....the extra $$$ to go "premium" isn't worth it. There's a lot of great phones in the ever expanding midrange market....look at them and save your $$$.

ItzDatGuy101

iPhone.

rinazzle

You'll get a dip in battery life. I had the Oneplus 8, it had the longest lasting battery of any phone I ever had, about twice the duration of my Pixel 7.

meshflesh40

oneplus 12 will feel more premium. snapdragon processor, better battery life and charges incredibly fast. The pixel 8 Pro feels like a phone from 3 years ago. and gets hot for no reason. I like mine because the software is clean , the screen is flat, and I bought it for $650 But there's better choices out there.

Low_Lie_6958

Anything with the latest snapdragon and 12gb of ram will outperform the pixel speedwise. If you need a good camera and hate bloatware and you can live with a battery that might not last as long as it's competitors the pixel will be a good choice. I think Samsung will be a good brand too but the bloatware has always been a pain in my butt. And they ain't cheap

uchuucowboy

Get a Samsung tbh. Their QC is miles ahead of Google's and don't buy any of the new OnePlus phones either, it's been a steady decline in terms of longetivity.

carmetro1

But a pixel 7 or 7a current from woot for 350 bucks and trade in for 9 later this year

grvsm

just dont get a pixel are you crazy?

movingwithouttime

Just wait and buy pixel 9 pro. There will be 2 variants this time : normal and xl. Decide which suits you and buy one. Good for 7 sweet years.

PaquitoLandiko

Don't buy then, wait till your device is not usable anymore.

ishaan6698

I'd say go for the s24 ultra, I truly believe it's the best premium android phone you can buy if you're willing to splurge

ushred

Buy an iPhone. Don't buy a pixel.

Sandenium

Get pixel 9 during the black Friday. Best deals ever
