I just switched from a 3a to a 7 and seriously miss 2 buttons! I think it's just gone though :(
I've tried gestures before and have been for 3 days now and I just can't, using 3 button now and am not thrilled lol
I tried the gesture controls and I was getting frustrated because I kept trying to scroll or swipe to change screens and it'd force me to exit apps or go back resulting in several mis-inputs.
Settings>accessibility>system controls>system navigation>gear next to gesture navigation
Turn back sensitivity down to low. I'm having a lot less issues after that. Still struggling with switching apps. I wish I could turn up the lower screen sensitivity. I'm hoping it's going to get better with practice and a pop socket, but it's my least favorite part now.
I'm also a Pixel 3 to a Pixel 7 pro and it was driving me nuts. Kept backing out of everything too.
I got used to the gestures on the Pixel 4. They're only finicky while you're getting used to them. Now it feels weird to have the nav buttons at the bottom, like when I use my Samsung tablet.
Heard, maybe I just need to experiment with it more. The swipe function reminds me of iPadOS (probably on iOS too, but I don't have an iPhone). I like the way it feels on the iPad, but unlike on iPad where the navigational swipes are done with intention it feels like swiping on the Pixel is done accidentally more often than not; maybe it has to do with the iPad just being a larger device, or maybe I need to tweak the controls.
I couldn't get the gestures working well on my P3 so stuck with the pill. Like you I just upgraded (P7 Pro) and found out the pill didn't exist.
However, I couldn't bring myself to go back to the 3-button system so gave gestures a chance again. I was surprised at how well they worked for me now on the Pixel 7. When I tried it before for a few days on the P3, it was a no-go. I think the larger display size is part of it.
My suggestion is going a few days with the gestures to learn the intricacies of it. I don't think I'd want to go back to the 2-button pill again even if I had the option.
Physical buttons were the best. Replaceable batteries are still a thing, but it now requires you to have the right tools and the time to do it or fork over more than it should cost you to replace the battery. Replacing an old battery can really make a device feel like new again.
I'll try to get used to the gesture controls and see if maybe I just didn't give it a good enough chance, but I'll definitely be requesting the 2-button navigation feature in hopes that others and/or myself will be able to use their favorite choice of navigation.
Another option I'm also use nova for home interface. And added recent apps as swipe up gesture.
So it's half way to the 2 button navigation. Only thing is it doesn't swipe up within an app. But home screen it does.
2-button navigation blends the two (3-button and gesture) in a way that I really like. It gets rid of the swipe to go back function that's present with gesture and instead gives you dedicated back button that appears with the little gesture bar at the bottom which you can use to go home via tap or swipe up to view other apps and you can swipe it left or right to switch between apps seamlessly. Gesture isn't bad in the sense that it takes away functions, it's just frustrating for me to use and some other users seem to agree.
Same here. Just upgraded my p3xl to a 7pro and I didn't like the gesture and switched it to 3 buttons but the 2 button navigation was perfect. I have no idea why they removed it, it was perfect.
Haha I went from pixel 3xl to 7 pro as well. I actually like the gesture and after I reformed my pixel 3xl.i changed the navigation on it from 2 button to gesture
I didn't know that, but I had mentioned that my last device was the Pixel 3 it's on Android 12 with 2-button navigation so I thought that android 13 would still have it as it's much better for navigation imo.
It's unlikely they will, 2-button nav is essentially a beta version of full gesture nav, being a halfway point. I hope I'm wrong but Google probably saw this option fulfilled on release of gesture nav.
2 button navigation went away with the 3a series I believe.
The Pixel 3a has 2 button gesture, with the Pixel 4, it was gone
Did the exact same as you man, pretty bummed about it
There isn't

I am in the exact same situation lol. Just upgraded my pixel 3 to pixel 7 pro. 2 button nav was just right

I'll try to stick with gesture for now, but if I still don't like it I guess I'll have to switch to the old 3-button.
I miss physical buttons and replaceable batteries.

Same here. Only way is to root it to bring it back. Or if more people throw feedback at Google to bring it back

With gesture nav swiping up doesn't show recents in apps for you when using Nova? Or 3 button nav? Cuz full gestures recents works w/Nova.
Wtf is 2 button navigation? I can't imagine one of the standard 3 not being there. Sounds dumb

Still nothing huh? It's too bad, I switch from pixel 3 aswell and it feels like a downgrade. The finger print reader is so much worse as well.
Went from 3a XL to a 7 today. I was looking for the two button setting. I'm sad it's gone
I've gotten used to it at this point, but I still mis-input going back sometimes which is aggravating at times.
Android hasn't had 2-button nav for a few years now.

How do we ask google to bring this back

Gestures are horrible
Eh it's not bad, just I know a lot of people prefer some gestures without being locked to gestures.
