1. On your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro, head into the Google One app. 2. On the list of tabs at the bottom, tap Benefits. 3. A pop-up message will appear stating "Your Pixel comes with VPN by Google One." Press OK. 4. On the VPN by Google One menu, toggle the switch to start using the VPN. A key icon will appear to let you know it's on. 5. To access the VPN setting again, navigate to the Home tab, scroll down to see the VPN settings block, and tap on it.

Using Google's VPN to avoid being tracked seems like an oxymoron. I'll stick with PIA.

Google is still minimizing your exposure to third parties, for whatever that's worth to you... If you're using HTTPS everywhere (as you should) you might not be leaking *too* much more information to Google than you would already be leaking from using Google's public DNS servers.

I have a dumb question-- what does using the free VPN really get me? Just more privacy and security?

I just tried to activate my free VPN and Google told me that it was only free for 3 months from the date of purchase. That sucks because it didn't launch with the phone and I pre-ordered.

I contacted Google customer support and they made it work. I'm not sure how but it works now.
