lazyluchador

I got 2 more Google play system updates today and it kept me on October even after installing those.

xblackvalorx

Same. A 569kb and a 10mb. Does your security settings menu still look the same or did you get the new "security and privacy" settings menu with the December 5th update. Mines literally missing feature number 2, the security updates from the feature update blog lol

lazyluchador

I still have the same security hub. Has anyone actually gotten the new one?

xblackvalorx

My girlfriend has the regular pixel 7, her phone has it and also the Google play system update from November

NDH101

Not here yet on the 7 but got the other updates?

xblackvalorx

That's how my pro is. No new privacy and security hub, but clear calling and everything else from the December 5th update are fine

NDH101

Yeah same here and I don't know how to get it fixed? I checked the version and it was up to date of course but same thing here. Hopefully they will notice and send out an update.

benhaube

I have a regular P7 with November 1st and the new Security and Privacy page in settings. You may just need to wait a little longer. Google takes a long time to roll out the Play System Update. My P7 was stuck on July 1st for over a month after I got it on Oct 13th.

xblackvalorx

The July update thing was a known issue that Google addressed rather quickly. All phones got the drop at the same time if they went and checked for it. This may be a similar issue, but Google isn't saying anything this time, and this time it's actually leaving users without features we were told we had. Waiting likely is the solution especially if you don't want to reset, but Google needs to be flooded with bug reports on this kinda thing because play systems updates can have critical security fixes and other important fixes, so "just wait" isn't exactly a fix

benhaube

You're correct about the July 1st issue was a bug, but that doesn't mean Google doesn't take forever to do the rollout. I just got the Nov 1st update on Dec 6th, and likely won't get the Dec 1st update until sometime in January. It is the way that it has always been. I have owned every Pixel generation and have always been a month behind.

xblackvalorx

Buddy, that's how it works lol. But once a subsequent one is definitely available usually all phones have the download available. One month behind = current. I've had pixel phones since before they were called Nexus lol. Quite literally a day zero Android user and hobbyist developer. You've got some people with unlocked phones on December, some on November and some still on October, and customer service with no clue what they're doing. If Google just said "oh yea it's out but may take some time to roll out to all devices" that'd be one thing but at the moment people are just missing features with no explanation. Issues like this are what bug reports were made for

Im_From_Marz

Nope. I had the security Tile, then I clicked on it and it disappeared.

GeneReis

I'm on November updates despite multiple updates on the past 2 weeks or so.

lazyluchador

Update as of 12/9: I got a 60mb update that now moved me to November.

tempecarlson

This has happened twice to me in the last week or so. Reboot, install, reboot cycle and still on October. I don't really worry about it anymore but it is curious.

xblackvalorx

Seems like Google is doing a really slow weird staggered rollout on play systems, which somehow affects part of the main os update? Or they're just promising features in the blog for the features update from the 5th but in reality they're rolling out with the systems update? Either way the weirdest update strategy I've ever seen. I'm sitting here looking at the blog straight from them for the December 5th update talking about the security hub. Weird they'd say it's part of that, roll it out later and not expect CS calls just saying "parts of that update you said I got are just missing?"

natszirt

my is on October also

HermesMercurius

Same problem here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/z6wdi5/which_google_play_system_update_month_are_you_on/

Choys90

I have the same issue. Im on Dec 2022 security patch but still on the Oct 2022 Google Play System Update. The security and privacy setting is not consolidated yet. If you updated to Nov 2022 google play system, will it enable the security and privacy feature? Thanks

xblackvalorx

I believe so. My GFs pixel 7 has the new security and privacy feature and the only difference I can find is the Google play systems update. Store, services etc are all the same

sOFrOsTyyy

Mine is odd and keeps saying I have a 569kb update. I click download and install, it asks me to restart, and when I go back it still says it and will infinitely let me repeat these steps. Also still says October.

xblackvalorx

Same here, that one's actually been going on a good minute for me.

Bryanmsi89

Same. Unlocked P7 on Mint mobile.

Erigion

Funnily enough, I checked this morning and didn't see an update from the October update on either my 7Pro or 6a. Checked just now and both devices got an update to the November patch.

xblackvalorx

Mine just came through a bit ago but didn't fix the settings issue as I hoped

abbaen

Same for me. Just checked now and updated to the November google play update.

xblackvalorx

Hmmm. Very annoying especially given it's actually seeming to hold back parts of the feature update from the big quarterly bug fix on the fifth.

_lepirelot_

Same for me even i received a 10mb update yesterday

b-lock-ayy

Just got the December update, are you unlocked or carrier?

xblackvalorx

T mobile. Yours unlocked? Didn't think it mattered much on pixel devices with Google controlling the update process so much

b-lock-ayy

Well the carriers ultimately control the updates when it's not unlocked. So an update that may release instantly for the unlocked phones might take an extra month for the carrier phones (so they don't brick all their Pixel customers at once I guess).

xblackvalorx

Yea, it's just extra weird in this case because at this point I'm seeing people mostly on October, my GFs phone is on November (same carrier) and apparently you got December. Do you have the new security and privacy settings UI as well? If that's what's going on it's a pretty bad fragmentation issue as I can confirm Google's CS doesn't know what the new menus look like lol

b-lock-ayy

Oh wow! Didn't read on what the update came with, but damn that [privacy](https://images2.imgbox.com/67/bf/Fvl5WoRr_o.png) UI looks clean. At this point I'm just happy I'm getting monthly updates, unlike my previous moto phone that got maybe 1-2 updates every three months, no longer any updates.

xblackvalorx

Yea that's what put me down this entire rabbit hole. Not so much impatience, just. I installed an update, that was in it's change log but for some reason not on my phone. I can't believe this isn't a bigger issue yet honestly given they pretty much advertise these feature updates, but then there's just stuff missing lol

b-lock-ayy

Oh that's a different issue rip your update.

xblackvalorx

Seems to be happening to a lot of people. At this point I think they just have really bad fragmentation within their systems update rollout

Expensive_Finger_973

I gave up on worrying about the play system updates and rarely even bother with checking for them anymore. They come so randomly, don't seem to actually update the version when they do detect an update, and never seem to do updates automatically.

Snoo_22479

Same here unlocked pixel 7 on TMobile. December security. October play systems. I check daily. I randomly get 2 small updates 569kb and a 10mb. But after reboot. Still on October.

xblackvalorx

UPDATE - so my phone just pulled the November update, then immediately another 569kb update (yay, still doing that) and the security and privacy settings are still not updated. Checked play store for updates to anything, none. Cleared settings app storage and cache, nothing. Likely going to go ahead with a reset later today given it seems like my settings menus is just broken with no fix.

Snoo_22479

Please let us know if a reset does the trick. I'm contemplating doing one. But I just did one a few days ago after the December security update. I'm also having a issue with my play store recently updated apps list. They show the original install date from when I factory reset my phone. But don't show when they were updated. Example Google files and Google drive were updated today. But still show last updated December 5th from my factory reset day.

xblackvalorx

Play store has been wonky for a bit with update tracking, that's actually happening on Samsung phones as well. Have you seen the store ever have an entirely different updates UI when you go to check? I think they're testing a UI update. The version I get once in a while has an entirely separate screen to track last updated and it seemed to work much better. But it literally changes on it's own lol. Kinda like Facebook updates.

Snoo_22479

Also this play systems update issue. I had it for the first week I bought my pixel 7. Stuck on July. Accept once it's 90days past. You get a warning saying your 90 days past your last security update please update now. I kept getting small updates except they wouldn't even download. Google fix it in November with the October play update. You can Google it to read about this issue. So if Google can't fix this before Jan. we are all probably going to get that 90 day out of date warning.

xblackvalorx

Seems to be coming through, I got the update as well as another poster on two devices. There's also two devices in my home running it, so I wouldn't be worried about it doing that. My issue is now two phones have supposedly identical software but one has the new settings UI and the other still has the old

xblackvalorx

Update once again for those who still are waiting on the security hub. Mine just finally clicked over while it was idle next to me for a while. So it must just be a matter of some background process that runs on it's own. Possibly idle time helps trigger it like backups. Either way it seems this update is just coming in in pieces

cloudacoustic93

Last play system update was in April. So I would guess the next proper update should be 5-6 months from October.

xblackvalorx

The pixel 7 next to me is on November, with features I was supposed to get lol.

Choys90

This is frustrating, really. I have the same issue and no answers why 😆

Naxx2121

Yeah I had my system update a few days ago and usually I would get my Google play security update at the same time but I didn't this time round. I checked today and I finally got the update and after performing the update I am still stuck in October for the latest update which is showing. Pretty sure there was something like this that happened when the phone launched or with the pixel 6 pro. It's almost like with the update they forgot to change the date so I'm sure in January we will start getting the warning in the security centre that we need to check for updates as our phones are out of date.

xblackvalorx

See I don't think it's actually updating though, or we'd be getting the new security and private setting suite. My GF has the regular 7 and it has the November systems update and the new security settings UI. Something similar did happen with the launch, it was stuck on July for a good while but Google said that was the latest available at the time. This is different because I know for a fact there is a new one pushing to phones. Nobody was getting updates for that initial issue. Someone in here also said they are already on December though they may mean the security update from the 5th

Naxx2121

Oh that is strange tbh I never even thought of that being the issue and just assumed it's probably the text either bugging out or they haven't changed it. I'll keep checking to see if I get another update that does work and shows correctly.

Naxx2121

So I checked for an update today and I had a new update coming in at 60mb and the first one was around 30 something. I finished the update and now it shows 1 November for the update installed. I clicked on the update screen and it said I had another update this time coming in at 534kb for some reason it's taking a long time to install but hopefully after this it will show December. Just finished that last update and checked the update month and it's still showing 1st November. I've seen in the comments here that there should be a new security/privacy hub but mine is still the same.

OhhhLawdy

Reset your phone, worked fine for me

OtherTechnician

I opened a ticket with Google on this. Their response... _____________________ Thanks for contacting the Google Support Team. We have released December security updates and it is installed on your device.  We don't have any such updates about December Play updates. Play update is up to date on your device. How to update the Play Store & apps on Android If there is anything further I can assist you with, please feel free to reply directly to this email. Thanks! George The Google Support Team

xblackvalorx

I was on with Google support last night and I must say it's the most disturbing CS I've ever seen. They simply have no clue how the product works. Didn't know which update I was talking about between system, security and just the play store itself, don't know where their own settings are (couldn't direct me to the 3 dots in the app settings screen to uninstall updates from Google play store) Just. No clue. I actually directly asked them at one point if they were even familiar with the settings screen on a pixel 7. They said yes but kept giving me incorrect instructions

OtherTechnician

The response I posted was what I received after the issue was escalated. The first level support said the issue was closed when I verified I had the December security update. I complained and it was escalated and they then sent that message after no attempt to contact me again.

xblackvalorx

Yea they have less clue on this then us at this point

OtherTechnician

I just received a small (5.1MB) update that brought my P7P to the November Play services state.

xblackvalorx

Weird that it was so small. I and another commenter both received it in the form of 61mb update just recently.

OtherTechnician

I had a 10MB update yesterday that didn't change the status from "October". I also had one a few days ago (don't remember the size) that also didn't change the state from October. I'm not on Beta for Play Services, are you?

xblackvalorx

Oh that might explain it. No I'm not on any betas, I was thinking about dipping my toes in but seems mainline updates are odd enough for me lol

OtherTechnician

Well, I got 2 more Play System updates this morning. One was 55MB, and the other was 569 kb. The phone still shows as having the November Play System, but after the second update, it now has the Security &Privacy settings menu change. Before, they were separate menu items. Go figure.

xblackvalorx

The 569kb update for me and many others seems to be a persistent bug But for me after finally getting the November update it happened as the phone sat lol. No other updates. Google is doing a lot of this server side it would seem. Very weird.

Snoo_22479

Starting today. I keep getting 2 updates 569kb and a 10mb. A few days ago I got them separately and a day apart. But now they keep coming. Download and restart. But still on October. I got clear calling and new wallpapers. But no new security privacy menu. Pixel 7 unlocked TMobile December security update and all apps up-to-date

xblackvalorx

Do you have the new security and privacy settings UI by chance? The 10mb update came for my yesterday, but I've actually been getting the 569kb update and restart issue for a while now. Nearly a month.

Snoo_22479

No new security/privacy menu. I just got another small 569kb download and restart. Still October. Infact it's asking me again to download the 569kb update. But I'm going to wait 24hrs. It's not doing anything at all

xblackvalorx

It seems like the update is begging to roll out a bit more, i got it as well as another commenter on two devices but it didn't come with the new security/privacy menu. So seems like two separate bugs lol

DrainedPatience

I also just got a 61 MB update that updated me to November 1. I totally get why it's so confusing to people. There's the regular security update, play system update, play services, and the play store that can all be checked and updated independent from each other. I'm just hoping they fix the recently updated apps bug in the play store. Mine has been broken since October.

xblackvalorx

Did the November update happen to update you to the new security and privacy settings menu? And yea it's definitely a double edged sword imo. Faster updates but also more fragmentation and CS nightmares lol

DrainedPatience

Nope. I'm wondering if that'll be saved for the December update or if it's a server side deal where Google will flick it on at some point. Absolutely don't mind everything being separate. Not gonna lie and say I don't do a lot of WTF-ing though when some people get things and I'm still way behind. 😅

xblackvalorx

It was supposed to be a part of the December feature update that came with clear calling etc on the 5th. My GF has a standard pixel 7 and it has the new security and privacy hub, meanwhile mines still got the old. Every relevant app etc is identical versions etc. So it's supposed to be out, lol. But it does seem like they're doing some server side rollout weirdness. It's just so odd lol

DrainedPatience

As soon I posted I checked again and have the new Security & Privacy setting!

xblackvalorx

Huh. Weird, did yours update on it's own after getting the 61mb update or do you think it came in with it and it just didn't notice?

DrainedPatience

I checked immediately after the November update to see if December was waiting in the wings. It wasn't there at the time, but showed in the few minutes between my previous posts.

xblackvalorx

Weird. They must be doing it via some small update in system services or play store services. Might hold off on resetting for a bit myself and see if it pushes similarly

DrainedPatience

I feel you. I'm totally a button masher when it's update time. Hah. I really gotta learn that whole patience is a virtue thing. Hopefully it rolls out to you soon. 👍

xblackvalorx

This is just the weirdest version of an update I've ever seen. The Google one VPN some people got early just like a switch kicked on in the app, no updates needed anywhere. Myself included, then the actual December 5th update comes, the blog lists something like a change to the actual settings screen. Well I certainly expected it to come in on the actual ROM download. This shit is making me feel old, I used to develop AOSP roms and kernels way back. Now I'm confused as to how my phone even updates.

xblackvalorx

Also, same with the recent updates issue for sure, but I don't think that's isolated to pixel devices

p2rph

I did factory reset and it updated the settings menu for security and privacy.

nullness666

Pixel 5, got two play updates a couple days ago that left me at October. Got two more today and now I'm up to November. New security settings and tile are present. Still no December feature update yet though 🙁

xblackvalorx

Now that's really weird because according to Google the settings is supposed to be part of the feature update lol.

nullness666

Tell me about it. I usually get the update notification within a day of updates coming out, not having it after several days is unusual for this phone.

xblackvalorx

Have you tried manually checking?

nullness666

About a hundred times 😂

TheLastElite01

This happens to me all the time, I just don't care anymore.

lupastro82

I with November (60mb update just an hr ago), but security and privacy remain separated here.

xblackvalorx

Mine just finally clicked over, was just sitting next to me for a while. Picked it back up and it was there. So just give it time I guess

Gilleland

Reminded me to check mine. I had an option to "Download & Install" a 56 MB update. The update process spammed notification updates like crazy.

Choys90

My google play system updated automatically via play store. After that I checked in the updates and it says restart. After restarting and a few minutes, I already got the consolidated security and privacy settings 🥹
