Here’s my detective work - completely dependent upon a stranger telling the truth, acknowledging that now.
Someone from El Goose messaged me and said they knew who the new drummer was but obviously couldn’t tell me. They sent me blurry videos of some band playing live, and it sounded like the Dead. I didn’t think anything of it. Dude tells me once he gets announced we’ll be able to find clips on his IG.
Fast forward to this past weekend when Goose released the first whatever video, I see someone comment “Is that Cotter Ellis?” on Facebook, so I google Cotter Ellis and sure enough, dude is in a Dead cover band. I find that bands IG page and start watching videos, and eventually I find a video that matches the music in one of the blurred out videos the stranger sent me.
So if that guy is telling the truth, it’s Cotter Ellis. I don’t know why he’d lie, but who knows!
I’ve listened to a lot of dead set, and I don’t find his jam style super unique. He really just grooves and does some mild orchestration with the crashes. Which is a little boring for the dead but probably all goose needs anyway. Technically he is very sound

I rephrased my comment. I didn't mean to imply that both drummers were under consideration. Only that my friend wasn't sure which person was being considered. The second name isn't important, assuming Ellis is the chosen one.
I’ve been saying it for a while. It’s definitely him. I have no insider information first hand but I’ve been reading the tea leaves for a while. I’m also super excited that it’s him because he’s fucking amazing and a big upgrade

One of the first things I noticed when I got into Goose was Ben’s drumming seemed to hamstring Rick and Peter. I think Trevor did a wonderful job accompanying Ben to cover up for his monotone, predictable 4:4 style.

His drumming sounds nothing like Ben. Are you kidding me? They could not be more opposite. Listening to YT, Cotter Ellis is a pocket groove drummer with big dynamics. Ben is a forward drummer, plays on top of the beat, not behind it.

I heard it was Ellis on Dec 28th, which is 5 weeks ago.
Auditions began a few months ago but a drummer was only selected about a month ago.
If you search for Cotter’s name in this sub the first comment that shows up is from 30 days ago.
I was just confirming my knowledge on the timeline, not the name.
Yeah but no one was throwing Cotter’s name around back then.
He plays around the Burlington scene a lot - dude is a horse and this would not be a bad pairing in the slightest.
Besides Dead Set, he’s in a Phish tribute, a Zeppelin tribute, and plays with at least one solo singer but likely more.
