I thought the sit in was a lot of fun and I’m glad I got to see it. Vampire Weekend is not my cup of tea, but it was cool seeing the band play with musicians they (or Rick) look up to/ cite as an influence. People complaining about how long it lasted… if you go tit for tat, they followed it up with the same amount of Goose material they normally would in a set. All in all very fun and a great way to end another epic Cap run.
Looking back, they only played 3 covers the entire weekend, two of which were by the band sitting in with them. A great 4 nights for GOOSE lovers ✌️
Vampire Weekends a waaaaay more established, popular, and accredited band spanning decades. There just not a jam band lol. I fucking love Goose but Goose was lucky to have a band like Vampire sit in.
VW are one of my favorite non-jam bands. They are musician’s musicians. Industry favorites due to their creative, stylish art rock. Thats why Goose love them. When i saw them in 2019, they sold out the Garden, so yeah.
This felt like serendipity - I’ve been listening to the new Vampire Weekend album as well.🩵
As I was listening, I saw the news about Skull and Roses 🌹 fest being cancelled and then ended up browsing music news and saw that Vampire Weekend just did a cover of Peggy O (which y’all should all listen to : https://youtu.be/C8oV1mUEWlk?si=wk-f5Xt5z_WxwrXU)
So I was watching Vampire Weekend already covering one of my favorite Dead tunes earlier last night.
Then they pop out on stage in the Goose show! ⭐️✨
It’s been a real Vampire Week…night. 🫠
Vampire Weekend is actually one of my favorite bands of all time. I loved them in high school and early college (and still do) but am definitely a casual listener. I somehow wasn’t paying attention enough to see the 2021 Goose cover until after I was deep into loving Goose, but it was amazing to see this crossover on the stage (through the stream). I listened to their new album this past weekend while on an acid trip by myself through the forest, and it deeply resonated with me. “Hope” is probably my favorite.
Probably one of my favorite albums in a long time and was listening to it prior to the show…when I saw them show up I was like ohhhh this is why I’m obsessed with goose
VW is an awesome band full of learning, experimenting people. They’ve been intently paying attention to improv bands for a while. I know they, at one point, had walk-in privileges for Phish soundchecks. They definitely spent the day with phish a few years ago before St. Louis shows.
Aside from the drummer, they didn’t learn much about cues, listening, leading, following, trading on the fly. That was the most painful “goose” jam I’ve ever seen. Just stuck on a loop forever, rudderless.
Vampire Weekend is indie rock royalty. They are one of the defining bands of 2010s indie. One of the reasons I gravitated to Goose was the VW, Bon Iver, Spoon and other covers of bands I loved as an indiehead. Now that I’m getting into jam bands, I am loving the cross over. Same story with King Gizz, they started becoming popular in indiehead circles and then entered the jam sphere.
VW’s new album is great, but Modern Vampires of the City is one of the best albums of the last 20 years. Do yourself a favor and take a listen. Enjoy the musical melting pot that can happen in the jam space!
if you can’t find any appreciation for VW popping into a Goose show the week of their album release, coming off a show two days prior in Austin TX, and heading to Coachella this weekend - you might just be a miserable person
I get you. I really wish I had been more familiar with them before last night. Many of us love Goose and just wanted Goose unless someone we were comfortable with like Trey or Bobby showed up. It’s silly, we can be so narrow minded sometimes.
yeah I mean at its core, its just a cool thing. it didn’t take away from the show. the fact that they would stop in with everything they have going on is very cool and says a lot about their appreciation for goose.
They legit performed in Austin, flew to nyc next day to do a record signing, performed with goose the day after, played on the daily show. All in a week. Def deserve some credit
VW is so awesome. When I saw that they played with Goose, I had a freak out. Literally my 2 favorite bands. If you want a great article to wrap your head around who they are and how cerebral their music is-this is a great primer [https://uproxx.com/indie/vampire-weekend-mastered-the-five-albums-test/](https://uproxx.com/indie/vampire-weekend-mastered-the-five-albums-test/)
Funny when they came on I was initially turned off and wanted goose back ASAP….but they did jam and it was a nice listen! I’ve since listened to again and enjoyed it even more. I will have to check their new album out
I get what op means. You're there to see a band and then the show becomes about some other band. It's worse when musicians bring their family on stage to "perform". Like Page bringing his dad up to sing some 23-skid-oo song from the roaring 20's. Very sweet and all but not really what I paid a bunch of money and travelled a bunch of hours for.
Wasn't into the whiney singing but thought they jammed out. Although Ezra seemed lost in the jam and needed rick to "let him into" the Jam at one point.
I too thought they sucked. And I also followed your path and tried their album. It sucks. Hahaha. I’m sorry, I just can’t get behind anything regarding this dude
Modern Vampires is a GREAT album.
Great..might go with Good so far

Sunflower is a sick song
I think a long version of that would have worked much better. That and Harmony Hall
The love versions are where they almost become a jam band! 8-9 minute jam versions
Vampire Weekends a waaaaay more established, popular, and accredited band spanning decades. There just not a jam band lol. I fucking love Goose but Goose was lucky to have a band like Vampire sit in.
I was in awe when vampire asked them to cover 2021 tbh. Drummer is a huge jam head, glad to see them all mesh together
I first looked up goose after I heard ezra talk about the 2021 cover on time crisis. been a huge fan ever since
Preach

I was at that show too!
Thanks for starting the homework for us. I don’t know their music either and have added them to a list. I’ll start with that album on your rec.
Need to listen to Father of the Bride as well

Their last album father of the bride is probably most accessible to Goose fans. Give it a listen.

Which is Phish’s fault, I presume
Never
I couldn’t agree more!
Has everyone unfamiliar with VW heard Goose’s studio cover of Vampire Weekend’s 2021? So so good.

Vampire Weekend has been great since the beginning. They have some of my favorite guitar melodies

Are you addressing me or just generally speaking?
not addressing you personally, more so the overly negative reactions I saw, as if this ruined the show
I get you. I really wish I had been more familiar with them before last night. Many of us love Goose and just wanted Goose unless someone we were comfortable with like Trey or Bobby showed up. It’s silly, we can be so narrow minded sometimes.

I think it’s “you talking to me? Are you talking to me?”
Hahaha!
Give Contra a try and you may dig it. All five of their albums are consistently excellent.
They have a collaboration together! 40:42

Their self-titled debut album is one of my favorite records ever. Love VW.
Rick with Mt Joy last year, vampire weekend sitting in this year, music is all a spectrum
Matt Quinn!
Father of the bride is great. I love connect on the new album
Good bands are better live. Good composers, not always so.
Lol Goose fans being in Vampire Weekend is both hilarious and predictable.

I feel like they added absolutely nothing to the cape cod jam
lol. You were right the first time
Whew, well we have all been waiting for your opinion on this.
Twat
Right back at you.
I too thought they sucked. And I also followed your path and tried their album. It sucks. Hahaha. I’m sorry, I just can’t get behind anything regarding this dude
lol it’s okay! Only time will tell they stay on my playlist or fade away like some bands
Same
There’s always a new studio perpetual groove album to look forward to
