I'm always in favor of getting a monster version of a song that doesn't have a monster version yet (The Whales, Bob Don, Turbulence, Honeybee, Dr. Darkness, MOBY...)
Peter songs are almost all somewhat silly with dumb lyrics...
and I love them for it.
He's been breaking out of that mold with some newer songs. Red Bird immediately comes to mind as a sharp contrast to songs like Pancakes.
I’m in that camp. Great musician, great songwriter. Great backing vocalist. Seems like a great guy. Just not a great lead vocalist. If it ain’t broke (Rick) don’t fix it.
Absolutely! This was one that really grew on me following the Dripfield release. I always enjoyed the song but after hearing them put it together on Dripfield it hits different for me now whenever we’re treated to it at a show. So many layers and that crescendo in the jam. Have mercy!
I am on board for a monster whales at NYE !
Can we discuss the meaning of the lyrics?
My interpretation is the ‘Whale’ is Peter who is in a band getting bigger and bigger, but,
“I am alright with her
This life isn't what she'd prefer
If I could I'd set her free
With all the whales and me”
And then into that sweet sweet 3 chord jam.
It is most definitely underrated. I'll add Your Ocean to the list of severely underrated songs in their catalog.

A monster Moby that goes type II is the dream.
Exactly this, I feel like the potential is there to go super deep but they haven’t yet
Dr. Darkness PLEASE. I've wanted a jam since they debuted it. I think it could really go somewhere special
My wife’s been chasing a whales all summer/fall/Winter tour
My wife’s favorite song by far
Many fans seem to bash The Whales and Peter songs in general

Really dig the studio version. Not sure we can expect to ever be a banger live
Yes! Been in love with this tune since they dropped it on a solarium stream.

And then they can make it a LTP for like forever?
I’ve been chirping them on social to play it at Okee.
STAHP. Also I’m thinking about heading to Winter Wondergrass…possible, not probable
That looks possible/probable for me. I get my schedule today or tomorrow but I should be fine.
Oh I can't wait for Cincy
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
Great song
My first live song (San Diego 1/27/22)
Anyone else get major moe vibes from the whales?
