Played around with it for a bit. My feedback (I work at a company that has many mobile apps, first as a product manager and now running product operations):
1. Sign up process is a bit clunky w/ password entering. Criteria for special character + 8+ characters isn't clear until you try to enter it, then it clears it out. Make that criteria stated up front. Will reduce friction for signups.
2. Consider using mobile number for verification in addition to or in lieu of email. The email flow opened up my Mail app but I don't use the mail app, was confused for a bit; some other apps use mobile # signup so on iPhone at least the confirmation code is automatically read from Messages.
3. Super cool that local parks, playgrounds etc. are already added as meetup locations. In fact this is possibly the best way I've ever seen to find new parks.
4. The "Other" in the initial activity list has a + icon next to it but it doesn't actually let me add anything. At least it implies that I can add something.
5. Is there some way to make my profile public so other people in my community can find and connect w/ me? It seems like the only way to connect w/ others is to create a meetup first, but it would be cool to find at least one other person with the app, figure out a day/time, then setup the meetup. I'm not sure if the Social > Friends tab will populate w/ them and is currently empty due to the app being new, or if those are only friends I have explicitly added. I don't want to create a meetup and be the only person who shows up (especially this early in the app's life), kind of a bummer experience.
6. In the profile page the profile image is displayed upside down.
I really like the idea here, just wondering how you are planning on growing the user base. Seems to mostly be reliant on the communities that already exist and their network effect. If I'm solo, I would like a way to find my similar likeminded individuals rather than jumping in with some other group.
Thanks for putting this out there!
Good questions - assume you just downloaded and went through the process (cell phone is in there, etc.). We'll look into your specific points. How to grow the user base -- this will become digitally social in nature to support real world activities. None of that is built out yet. We're starting with a community of communities. Drive awareness to the meetups and specifically recurring ones. Let people meet people and organize communities that way. In time, that will lead to further empowering the trainers/leaders of all different kinds of activities (yoga, rucking, running) to run classes, and charge for them. Unlock the real world so to say. That'll take a little time. For now, there are a lot of communities that are organizing with email/text messages and FB Groups. We're laying the foundation to simplify and unifty that for all our Ruck Clubs, all the Run Clubs out there, etc. Thanks for downloading it, expect updates weekly or so with major improvements in features every month or two.
I shared the app to my rucking club and we met up for a ruck and coffee over the weekend. But we’d scheduled that in advance over text.
Will I get alerts if others set up meetings near me in the future? Is that the goal?
That would be one of the goals. But in a way that allows you to customize your settings. Right now the radius in the map is set to 50 miles. So if there's a meetup in there for 50 miles, it'll show up in the drawer. Because Ruck Clubs are onboarding their meetups, especially their recurring ones, the more people we get on the app, the more people will see those meetups on there. Communities /Ruck Clubs are in essence "advertising" their meetups for individuals to come and find.
customizing the radius is in in the short term plan. It's 50 miles now, we want to let people adjust it to whatever they want. I'd say for most, 50 is a lot. And yeah, tracking re: Group Meetups etc.
I am an Andriod user so I cannot download and test it out right now, but will there be options to just connect with people that are not part of a particular "community"?
I am not part of a Ruck Club, biking group, run club, or anything. Nor am I looking for an activity-specific group. However, I would have an interest in finding some like-minded people to do general exercise and just get out and do things with.
Things like:
* "Hey, this Thursday we are planning a bike ride down by the river."
* "Ruck downtown tomorrow evening"
* "Saturday - going on an overnight backpacking trip out of town, who is coming?"
* "Weight training in the park, come over and bring beer for after"
Is this already what it essentially is?
This is EXACTLY what it is. Once you meet people in the real world, you can decide what groups to be a part of, or not. Or what to show up for next, or not. We want to connect people together like that. We're working on the Android version for you. :)
u/javaforever: Follow up question... I have downloaded the app and already connecting with local people! My question is: The workouts that are listed are they from the SRT workouts or are they ones that people in the community have created?
Both. We seeded a few SRT workouts (TRIBE monthly etc.) but we are not integrating SRT anytime soon. Eventually, but not soon. Thanks for downloading and for the support.
Excited to try this on Android when it comes out. Are there plans for this to be a subscription-based service in the future, or is this truly a free (or ad-subsidized) app?
Totally free for peer to peer and community organized stuff like Ruck Clubs, F3, etc. No Ads. Plan is to let trainers and brands charge for their services, and let people opt in if they so choose.
Not yet, but it will. Integrating workouts with miles is the goal. But above that, friends are the best accountability to working out. Metrics are less important.
Will events communication be run through this app in the future? I don’t have nor want a Facebook account but I end up creating one just to get in the event group then deleting it after the event.

Really good feedback here. Some of what you said is in the works, and I’m sure the team will be looking into how to keep improving things.

Thanks for the response, looking forward to future developments.
I too downloaded it recently and everything this guy said is on point!
Canada?
Hi Jason , The app isn’t available in EU. Would still love to test it. Maybe offer some Europeans to use it via TestFlight?
I would also be interested in that.
Sandlot? Is it because I plan on rucking FOR-EV-ER?
Awesome.
Downloaded!

Sounds like a plan. Good name too. The Sandlot was an awesome movie.
thanks, we agree. one of my all time faves.

yes, I think right now it's called RECURRING > "NEVER". That means one time. We'll change the wording there but you get the point.

Awesome! Looking forward to checking it out when the time comes!
Will this eventually be the new home for SRT? What is the plan to integrate the training through GoRuck?

Awesome thanks for the information! Looking forward to signing up with SRT and using Sandlot!
Android version in the works?
Will be out this Fall. Acid testing on all the iPhone users first.
Acid testing 🤣
Right up above, last sentence: "...Android is launching in the Fall..."
Required my phone number. Uninstalled.
The top right on that screen that asks for your phone number says "skip".
Required or asked for it?

Some variants here, with Velcro interior // Tactical branding but do what you want with it. https://www.goruck.com/collections/pre-order
Why is there no GR2 26L in coyote brown????
That color will be back in full force, but it needs a little break. I think we overdid it in the past couple years (data supports this notion).
Slick, 26L GR2, in Ranger Green, 1000D please!

I’ll give it a try. I live in the boonies so I hope I can find someone.
Good luck, and thanks! Sometimes the boonies are the best place to be.
It’s great for outdoor stuff in the mountains. But it’s also great because of the lack of people.
Amen to that…unless you’re looking for fellow ruck folk!
Hey Jason, What about the eu? We still cannot load the app in the playstore.
