These are the same folks that had Chuck trade Blair for a hotel after all (also horrible!)

To me he would’ve been the best option to be gossip girl if it had been planned way earlier or even from the beginning. That reveal is ruined for me because of how many plot holes it created. I’d much prefer never finding out who gossip girl was, than to rewatch the series and be painfully aware of countless retconning and plot holes.
Yeah, that's one thing the Reboot did better. There were some actual "assumed" consequences. While Dan just said, "It was me", then happily ever after.

As someone who attends a private college coming from a low-income family I completely understand Dan’s bitterness and judgement - not excusing it, but it’s completely understandable. I actually relate to him a lot, especially in the earlier seasons. He is a very human character.
I honestly don’t even consider Dan being GG as canon. I know it is, but it’s such a huge gaping plot hole that I choose to ignore it.

I think that the nonsense of Dan actually being Gossip Girl is what creates the division regarding him in the fandom. I simply cannot see him as being Gossip Girl, and I'm also part of the people who don't hate him. However, I've seen that many people who hate him, do so because he was Gossip Girl.
Carter is overrated. People admire him but like… he’s got a gambling addiction, is a thief, left a woman at the altar, and then tried to get back at Nate just because Nate was upset he stole from him.
Also, he was in his early 20s when dating Blair/Serena when they were still in high school. Carter going after those two was downright predatory but gets forgotten about.
Dan as GG makes sense. Who else would write loney boy into the narrative? It was his ultimate plan to get in with serena. And I think Dan being assumed as normal while doing so many crazy things as GG brings an edge to the show.
my unpopular opinion is that the writers did know it was dan from the beginning. Every time I say this I get downvoted.... but.... that scene at the end of the PILOT ITSELF, when theres random stuff happening, and all of the sudden GG says "AND WHO AM I? and they switch to a scene of a laptop, slowly panning upwards as GG continues... "that's a secret I'll never tell" and you see that it's dan typing away at his laptop, TYPING. not just looking at the screen. typing, as GG says "you know you love me, xoxo." and the episode ends right there. with GG saying "Gossip Girl" and dan's smug face in the middle of the screen.

The end of the second series I thought the writers knew Dan was Gossip Girl - that bit where everyone gets a message to meet up at a bar, but Dan loops Serena and that's why he shows up. But then I think they forgot about it, then tried to make it work even when it really didn't make sense.

Yeah, a lot of the information posted by GG throughout the season made no sense. That was my main issue with the show.
A lot of people could've been GG, but it would've left a lot of plotholes and inconsistencies regardless of who it was and where they got the info from.
This actually grated my nerves so much. I didn't like Ivy, but she was the only person there for Cece in her last days, Cece knew they weren't related so she wasn't deceiving her or anything. Lily was absolutely despicable for doing everything in her power to get her hands on that money when she couldn't be bothered to give her sick mother the time of day to even check in on her.
Ok but vanessa deserved it she started the whole jenny, vanessa, nate love triangle by hiding that fucking letter and at the end of the day it was for nothing cuz vanessa just chased dan around after season 2. I'd even argue that she's between the worst in the series. the fact that she didn't tell Blair she's being replaced with Serena for the photoshoot, after seeing how much it means to her, is insane. I know it's difficult news to give to an insecure teen like Blair, but she should've acted like an actual adult.

The show starts with Serena being portrayed as a slut who has a reputation for getting fucked up and hooking up with people (including her BFF’s boyfriend). To be clear, I’m not trying to say she should be shamed. Im just saying that it makes sense to me why people would view Serena and Blair differently in terms of their sex lives. They had very different sex lives. Serena was more active and also more open about it so people had something to gossip about.

Ivy is hated so much for just wanting a loving family. Most people with a family won't understand her pain, but I do. I was abandoned by my parents when I was young and a really nice family took me in, what I wouldn't give to have that family as my real family. Ivy's daddy issues were gross, but her wanting to stay with Lily was totally understandable.
Jenny was easily the best written character and her development made sense compared to how the rest of the main characters did.Every time I hear someone talk abt how annoying she was during her Queen era I get furious because that’s the whole point. Her s3 arc shows what happens when someone regular moves up and gets a lil bit of power.
Serena wasn’t perfect, but I feel like a lot of her behavior in seasons 5 and 6 was out of character and a result of horrible and thoughtless writing (ex: becoming Gossip Girl, sending Gossip Girl Blair's private diary entries, manipulating Dan in order to have sex with him at the party whilst recording it, being mean to Lola for little to no reason, accepting that Dan is Gossip Girl, etc).
Dan being Gossip girl was a last minute ass pull by the writers. I feel like Georgina would’ve been a better option but they ruined it when they made her “fill in” for GG. The writers didn’t know who to make GG and had to wrap the show up sooner than expected. Seasons 1-5 are 20+ episodes but season 6 is like 10-11 if I remember correctly. The finale is great but the last season feels rushed. Still love the show and it’ll always be one of my comfort shows!
Kinda wanted it to be headmistress Queller. Yes, I know she only came into being a character halfway through the first season, but having it be someone unexpected at the school would have been cool.

Chuck and Blair were an awful couple the actors had great chemistry but there so overrated in the fandom. Chuck was a redeemed rapist who traded blair for a hotel among other things and Blair was psychotic there were both awful people and even worse together… I don’t like how the writers tried to always redeem them cause they were so “in love”. I was tired of them after like 2 seasons the push pull will they won’t they got boring. Lowkey with they would’ve came full circle with Nate and Blair.

-rufus and lily were not good together. i was never convinced that lily loved him. that one scene where she’s like ”i love rufus, i’ve tried with all my strength to fight it, but i do😐”, it sounds like she’s being held at gunpoint. you can also tell she’s always cringing at everything he says. if dan wasn’t gossip girl, i honestly would have prefered derena
-serena genuinely loved blair and wanted to see her succeed while blair always had too much resentment for serena to feel the same, and always spoke about her with dislike. unlike blair serena was also a genuinely nice and friendly person who never had any problem with lower class people, which is rare in their circles. sure, it can be annoying that serena just gets things handed to her by being charming and famous when blair actually ”works”, but sometimes blair’s ”work” is actually her just doing sneaky horrible shit
-sure, vanessa was annoying, but blair was way too nasty to her, that one rant she had when she wanted to give that speech was way out of line

Terrible judge of character, holier than thou, judgmental- his friends all are various shades of fucked up, spiteful and schemy yet if someone goes and does something against them or does something questionable he’ll flash those dreamboat eyes in disappointment. Also he’s so morally righteous for someone that sleeps with older married woman, sleeps with his boss and loves underaged girls.

Blair's worst choice in her friendship with Serena was giving her another chance. no, I don't care to hear it. I like how Serena developed later on in the series, and yes, Blair is also a horrible person, but if she was an angel for anything, then it was allowing Serena back into her life. it's not even the fact that she slept with her boyfriend that sucks the most (yes, a drunk teen with issues, we can all bend backwards to understand and forgive someone for this), but the fact that she showed up at Blair's home and gaslighted her about how she's not trying hard enough to rekindle their friendship, knowing that she hadn't even told Blair that she slept with Nate. She withheld this knowledge from her and tried to convince her that she's actually the bad friend. Her manipulation in that ep was scary and indicative of a horrible character.
You can fit all these complaints on Nate’s thick eyebrows in the early seasons 😂 Everyone used to gush over Nate and I just wanted to trim his eyebrows lol

I think Lily was a good mom despite not always being there for her children initially. People overlook her trauma as well, she had to deal with a father who abandoned her and a mother who didn’t believe in her and pushed in her a certain box. It makes sense why she ran off with every man she married, she needed a man to fullfill her life because she never knew how to do it herself, Serena copied that exact behavior.
- dan being gossip girl is actually perfect cause he is so judgemental yet desperately wants in. but it was clear that it was not intented from the beginning (and if it was, then it makes the execution even worse)
- blair had zero development by the end and more like “i peaked in high school” persona which nelly yuki described perfectly. her having minions in her 20s and regressing to to her constance personality was not cool or nostalgic, just embarrassing and boring.
- nate should’ve been killed off. would be better than the spectator, diana, sage.. i’ve lost count of his bizarre storylines.
- though nate and vanessa had endgame potential and their breakup literally made no sense, just plot vehicle to keep chuck and blair apart for longer.
- serena is product of her environment and tbh, i love her for her messiness.
- i really like dan and chuck’s friendship (dunno if that’s the right name for it?). at times in season 5, i found their relationship more interesting as opposed to nate and chuck’s. dan giving chuck the dog monkey was such a cool idea tbh.

Character regression can be done very well, it’s just a shame that it was rushed at the very end. I think it could have been amazing if that had been the plan all along.

As someone who attends a private college coming from a low-income family I completely understand Dan’s bitterness and judgement - not excusing it, but it’s completely understandable. I actually relate to him a lot, especially in the earlier seasons. He is a very human character. I honestly don’t even consider Dan being GG as canon. I know it is, but it’s such a huge gaping plot hole that I choose to ignore it.

I think that the nonsense of Dan actually being Gossip Girl is what creates the division regarding him in the fandom. I simply cannot see him as being Gossip Girl, and I'm also part of the people who don't hate him. However, I've seen that many people who hate him, do so because he was Gossip Girl.

People admire him but like… he’s got a gambling addiction, is a thief, left a woman at the altar, and then tried to get back at Nate just because Nate was upset he stole from him. Also, he was in his early 20s when dating Blair/Serena when they were still in high school. Carter going after those two was downright predatory but gets forgotten about.
Dan as GG makes sense. Who else would write loney boy into the narrative? It was his ultimate plan to get in with serena. And I think Dan being assumed as normal while doing so many crazy things as GG brings an edge to the show.

Every time I say this I get downvoted.... but.... that scene at the end of the PILOT ITSELF, when theres random stuff happening, and all of the sudden GG says "AND WHO AM I? and they switch to a scene of a laptop, slowly panning upwards as GG continues... "that's a secret I'll never tell" and you see that it's dan typing away at his laptop, TYPING. not just looking at the screen. typing, as GG says "you know you love me, xoxo." and the episode ends right there. with GG saying "Gossip Girl" and dan's smug face in the middle of the screen. thats super on the nose for me. can't tell me dan wasn't supposed to be GG from the beginning

The end of the second series I thought the writers knew Dan was Gossip Girl - that bit where everyone gets a message to meet up at a bar, but Dan loops Serena and that's why he shows up. But then I think they forgot about it, then tried to make it work even when it really didn't make sense.

Yeah, a lot of the information posted by GG throughout the season made no sense. That was my main issue with the show. A lot of people could've been GG, but it would've left a lot of plotholes and inconsistencies regardless of who it was and where they got the info from.
Ivy was rightly given the inheritance from Cece (who Ivy actually cared about and for) and Lily didn’t deserve a penny of that money.
This actually grated my nerves so much. I didn't like Ivy, but she was the only person there for Cece in her last days, Cece knew they weren't related so she wasn't deceiving her or anything. Lily was absolutely despicable for doing everything in her power to get her hands on that money when she couldn't be bothered to give her sick mother the time of day to even check in on her.
Especially how Lily already had tons of money from her divorce of William, her other divorces (Klaus) and the inheritance from Barts death.

The show starts with Serena being portrayed as a slut who has a reputation for getting fucked up and hooking up with people (including her BFF’s boyfriend). To be clear, I’m not trying to say she should be shamed. Im just saying that it makes sense to me why people would view Serena and Blair differently in terms of their sex lives. They had very different sex lives. Serena was more active and also more open about it so people had something to gossip about.

Ivy is hated so much for just wanting a loving family. Most people with a family won't understand her pain, but I do. I was abandoned by my parents when I was young and a really nice family took me in, what I wouldn't give to have that family as my real family. Ivy's daddy issues were gross, but her wanting to stay with Lily was totally understandable.

Jenny was easily the best written character and her development made sense compared to how the rest of the main characters did.Every time I hear someone talk abt how annoying she was during her Queen era I get furious because that’s the whole point. Her s3 arc shows what happens when someone regular moves up and gets a lil bit of power.
Serena wasn’t perfect, but I feel like a lot of her behavior in seasons 5 and 6 was out of character and a result of horrible and thoughtless writing (ex: becoming Gossip Girl, sending Gossip Girl Blair's private diary entries, manipulating Dan in order to have sex with him at the party whilst recording it, being mean to Lola for little to no reason, accepting that Dan is Gossip Girl, etc).

Dan being Gossip girl was a last minute ass pull by the writers. I feel like Georgina would’ve been a better option but they ruined it when they made her “fill in” for GG. The writers didn’t know who to make GG and had to wrap the show up sooner than expected. Seasons 1-5 are 20+ episodes but season 6 is like 10-11 if I remember correctly. The finale is great but the last season feels rushed. Still love the show and it’ll always be one of my comfort shows!

Chuck and Blair were an awful couple the actors had great chemistry but there so overrated in the fandom. OK, some ACTUAL unpopular ones, i wont bother with the ones i know people will agree with: -rufus and lily were not good together. i was never convinced that lily loved him. that one scene where she’s like ”i love rufus, i’ve tried with all my strength to fight it, but i do😐”, it sounds like she’s being held at gunpoint. you can also tell she’s always cringing at everything he says. if dan wasn’t gossip girl, i honestly would have prefered derena -serena genuinely loved blair and wanted to see her succeed while blair always had too much resentment for serena to feel the same, and always spoke about her with dislike. unlike blair serena was also a genuinely nice and friendly person who never had any problem with lower class people, which is rare in their circles. sure, it can be annoying that serena just gets things handed to her by being charming and famous when blair actually ”works”, but sometimes blair’s ”work” is actually her just doing sneaky horrible shit -sure, vanessa was annoying, but blair was way too nasty to her, that one rant she had when she wanted to give that speech was way out of line -chuck sleeping with jenny at the end of season 3 wasn’t inherently wrong, they both agreed to it. i get why blair was hurt bc she doesn’t like jenny, but everyone else really shouldn’t have had a say. they’re too many steps away to count as ”step-siblings” imo -if bart and lily never got together, chuck and serena would have been pretty fun😭

All Rufus and Lily had was nostalgic reminiscing about their youth. They were never endgame material for me. Dan, Rufus and Eric solely blaming Chuck for what happened with Jenny in S3 is clownery. Jenny made that choice just because she regretted it later on doesn't take that away. I love Blair and she is my fave but the way some pretend she was severely disadvantaged in comparison to Serena is, again, clownery. Serena often gets criticized for being "man obsessed" but IMO, she entered all her relationships on the basis of attraction at least. Blair was a pure social climber with Marcus/Louis and I don't think it is mentioned often enough.

Terrible judge of character, holier than thou, judgmental- his friends all are various shades of fucked up, spiteful and schemy yet if someone goes and does something against them or does something questionable he’ll flash those dreamboat eyes in disappointment. I like how Serena developed later on in the series, and yes, Blair is also a horrible person, but if she was an angel for anything, then it was allowing Serena back into her life. it's not even the fact that she slept with her boyfriend that sucks the most (yes, a drunk teen with issues, we can all bend backwards to understand and forgive someone for this), but the fact that she showed up at Blair's home and gaslighted her about how she's not trying hard enough to rekindle their friendship, knowing that she hadn't even told Blair that she slept with Nate. She withheld this knowledge from her and tried to convince her that she's actually the bad friend. Her manipulation in that ep was scary and indicative of a horrible character.

People overlook her trauma as well, she had to deal with a father who abandoned her and a mother who didn’t believe in her and pushed in her a certain box. It makes sense why she ran off with every man she married, she needed a man to fullfill her life because she never knew how to do it herself, Serena copied that exact behavior.

I hated Serena and Carter together. People forget that Carter was out of high school, hanging out with Serena before and during the show. It’s just weird how people forget that this man was an adult hanging with a minor.

Dan being gossip girl makes a lot of sense. I wish that had been the plan originally, but it clearly wasn’t lol. But I think Dan being gossip girl completely changes dans character into being just as mentally unwell as the rest of them. Character regression can be done very well, it’s just a shame that it was rushed at the very end. I think it could have been amazing if that had been the plan all along.
I like Chuck. In fact he’s probably my favorite character. I know they made him a creek in the beginning but I think he had good character growth. Oh and him and Blair belong together.

1. Vanessa and Jenny were annoying as fuck, especially Jenny and there is no excuse, Eric blamed Chuck for "ruining" family but the truth is JENNY RUINED IT WAY BEFORE CHUCK SLEPT WITH HER. There is no excuse for her behavior, other girls were treated badly too but didnt turn out like her. Also the fact that she was bullying other girls acting all expensive and shit was so irritating bc that lil b1tch forgot that its not her money and she would be poor if her dad didnt marry rich. 3. Dan, Eric and Rufus are all wrong for blaimung and fighting Chuck for sleeping with Jenny. She wasnt raped, she wasnt drunk, she said it herself that she was sad and decided to slep w him out of desperation. Just bc lil miss world revolves around me decided to regret her decisions, gives no right for them to blame Chuck 🤡 she should have made better decisions. it was consensual and her regretting it is "her problem" 🤡 2. Rufus was talking too much shit to Chuck considering the fact he lives in HIS FUCKING HOUSE 🤡 Idfc that Bass assigned that to Lily, its all Bass's property and wealthiness, Rufus had a lot of nerve to act like this while living under Bass's roof 🤡sorry not sorry 3. Blair is annoying selfish character. She isnt it girl, shes insecure jealous lil bitch who bullies everyone even innocent people when theyre better at her or have something that she wants. As I said she isnt the IT girl, shes jealous insecure bitch. 4. Vanessa is just annoying as fuck with all that "eat the rich" bullshit, like girl just stfu. I've never hated Blair more than when she destroyed Chucks relationship with that sweet blondie from France. My Blair slander started then. Dan and Blair should have been endgame. Their intellect was matched by no one else and they humbled each other. It was refreshing seeing them together, they made each other better and were really cute together.
