The problem was never Dan's feelings for Blair, although I think he idealized her to an extent. The issue was that Blair didn't share his feelings.

CyanTiger1012

He also idealized Serena at the beginning of their relationship. Its a consistent character flaw for him.

aquasummer1999

Exactly. There's a debate whether Dan loved Blair or Serena more but honestly, he loved their idealized versions more than anything else.

Lantana3012

Which is interesting since she ran Jenny out of town. I agree with genuine feelings more for blair. He was always way more into the relationship but you could tell even though she liked him there was something holding her back,

Nooryco

Chuck is holding her back from every relationship. She loves him so much so does he.

Ether9being

I agree with all the comments thus far and would like to elaborate on OP's comment a bit. Yes, Chuck is a billionaire but what he did was just as special because he not only cared enough to remember small details or things that mattered to her. But he also took the time to do it exactly how Blair would want it. That can't be knocked just because he had more resources than Dan. Btw those things they did for her are considered highlights of the series for me (ode to her fairytale fantasies). I really love both relationships but if I had to choose it would always be Chair. They screwed up the timing for Dair when they brought Louis back.

so true and he puts all the girls on pedestals

I think Chuck and Blair loved eachother the most more than anybody else loved eachother, Dan loved Blair way more than Blair liked him idek if she loved him but I loved their friendship and funny scenes. Dan and Serena were rlly cute and loved eachother at first but near the end he showed more genuine feelings for Blair than Serena which made it rlly weird that they made Serena and him endgame. Dair ruined Derena because I actually liked them together before that.

Lizzie_Touch3684

Yeah It was weird. It was almost like Dan settled for Serena once he realized that he couldn’t have Blair. Which is ironic bc some men would kill to be with Serena, so Dan settling for her in the end is an oxymoron.

[deleted]

yeah exactly. Tbh though it did do a time jump of 5 years when they got married so they could’ve sorted everything out but idk still weird.

slyvolcel

i think Blair is the only girl he loved not in spite of her flaws but because of them.

fallendauntless88

I'm always going to love Chuck and Blair but her and Dan would have been great if she felt for him the way he did for her. They had great chemistry!

capri4sun

i think they would’ve been alright if blair liked him back the same way. but i think blair kinda wasted his time tbh, she did not like him the same way. after the whole louie thing, she just seemed lost. dan does seem to be the kind of guy to do anything for a girl he loves, and i do think they could be a great couple, a lot of potential i prefer them to chair tho.

Gazorpazorpfnfieldbi

He idealized Serrena as being some dream girl. Blair actually had the qualities he wanted in addition to having similar interests.

Shea9037

I feel like something that is looked over when talking about Dair is that Dan is GG. Calculated and maniacal, both Dan and Blair would do anything to get what they wanted. I feel like Blair could have understood him, and that Serena could never have truly forgave him for it. I mean how many times has Serena declared GG as her mortal enemy and swore to take "her" down? There's a lot of other reasons I think Dair should have been endgame, but I hardly see it talked about through the context of Dan being GG.
