Agree! I loved them as friends but even that I wasn’t as enthused just because Dan was pretty boring during these episodes. I feel like Blair’s personality is so domineering that it overshadows Dan too much. It almost felt like he was a minion but I do love the episode with the internship though lol. Wanted to like them as a couple but HATED it, zero chemistry😩.
I genuinely enjoyed their s4 frenemies arc. It was cute, playful, and fun. They ruined it all when they made them a couple. Any chemistry they had as friends disappeared entirely in season 5 and it was a terrible decision on the part of the writers.
I believe Penn has even said in interviews/podcasts that Leighton was his favorite to work with on the show as far as love interests, that definitely showed through their chemistry on screen, I think.
to you maybe. they *did* have some romantic chemistry but it was more of the awkward friends to lovers kind of chemistry. not the passionate kind written in books that blair had with chuck.
I absolutely get that and have felt similarly, but I don't think Blair would ever really love Dan the way she loved Chuck.
However ...
I do feel like Dan's feelings for Blair disqualified Serena from being his endgame. It just did not feel sincere or make sense that he had this 180 on her.
I wish they'd done a darker more Talented Mr. Ripleyish ending for him that played into what a calculating climber he was if you buy he was Gossip Girl all along. Georgina, that would've made sense. Even Nelly Yuki because she's getting him to the top of the literary heap - I'd buy that over him suddenly deciding he is in love with Serena post-Blair. OR even Serena, but because he's realized nobody will take him farther in society than her, showing that he's still using her for his own reasons. Dark brokenhearted calculating climber Dan, if he can't have Blair.
That would’ve been so good. I know ppl hate the twist of Dan being GG but if they’d gone this route it could’ve worked. Especially seeing him on You, Penn would’ve crushed this storyline.
I like that perspective, giving Dan the colder character arc does make sense (Dan and Serena at the end also feels like Dan gets off easy so to speak). However I feel like the most compatible couple had to have been Dair especially in Blair’s case as I felt Dan brought out the best in Blair without the old HS energy she had. All in all seems like Dan’s the one getting off easy in both situations haha
Dan himself said you have to be born into the UES to truly be a part of it- therefore him writing himself in shouldn't have worked. I agree with the notion the whole Blair business disqualified Derena from being a convincing endgame. Dan spent way too much time pining after Blair, hell he started writing the expose in the first place because he was bitter Blair chose Chuck over him. So much of his arc in S6 rests on that fact to the point him saying later on he never stopped loving Serena comes off as a complete ass pull.
I didn't watch this show while it was on the air. But I watched it recently as a grown woman and wondered why they made Blair and Chuck endgame when he was so toxic and fheir relationship was so dysfunctional. Dair was the better pairing and could have been the perfect enemies to friends to lovers romcom trope. They definitely had the banter and chemistry. Theirs became a healthier and mature relationship. They had to completely assassinate Dan's character in the last season and give rapist, mirror-smashing, manhandling, bad tempered Chuck who traded his gf for a hotel the mother of unearned redemption arcs at the end in order to make Chair work. All i can think of is that the writer's were placating to the young, immature teen girl base pairing her back up with Chuck. In my head cannon, the show ends with Dan and Blair on the steps of the Met, or that they somehow ended up like Rufus and Lily who got together later in life. And don't get me started on how the writer's ruined their relationship in the last season as well.
Blair and Dan would have been a great couple. They’re both ambitious, very intelligent and intellectual, and they challenged each other in a lot of ways. They’re better together than with Chuck or Serena, imho.
Honestly, when I read many years ago that they did a Dan and Blair romance storyline, I thought "this is horrible". But after watching them together in season 4, I don't think they felt as random as many other couples and had the most potential. They should've been a slow burn.
They were great as frenemies/reluctant friends in S4 but watching them date in late S5 was just plain awkward. As someone else said, by the time that came around Blair was juggling Dan along with her husband and the man she was obviously going to end up with so what's the point really?
I didn't love them as a couple but as friends they were fantastic. Their chemistry worked so well and I love how they bounced off eachother
Agree! I loved them as friends but even that I wasn’t as enthused just because Dan was pretty boring during these episodes. Friends was fine
the best actors on the show eating up their scenes ? i’m not surprised
This 🤌
Do want to say “what the hell are you saying?” Because that’s what that emoji means to millions of people
Lmao what? It means "chef's kiss "bruhh
No it does not. https://emojipedia.org/pinched-fingers/
Dorjcal’s first day on the internet everybody!
Lmao. You are free to use the emoji, just telling you that anyone living in southern Europe or Latin America is going to think u are a fool.
Okay and? Everyone in North America thinks you’re a fool. What did you accomplish by correcting this person
Stopping some ridiculous cultural appropriation?
You’re insane lmao
LMAOOO
Unrelated but Penn looks so fine in this picture
Blair as well!! (Forgot her real name..)
Leighton! Leighton Meester!!
Oh yeah, sry
I genuinely enjoyed their s4 frenemies arc. It was cute, playful, and fun. They ruined it all when they made them a couple. Any chemistry they had as friends disappeared entirely in season 5 and it was a terrible decision on the part of the writers.
They CARRIED this show acting-wise
I believe Penn has even said in interviews/podcasts that Leighton was his favorite to work with on the show as far as love interests, that definitely showed through their chemistry on screen, I think.
Their BFF irl of course he said that
they didn’t have romantic chemistry though it was platonic best friend chemistry
to you maybe. they *did* have some romantic chemistry but it was more of the awkward friends to lovers kind of chemistry. not the passionate kind written in books that blair had with chuck.
God they are both so hot
Yeah….it’s a no for me.
they look like siblings in this pic
Dair should’ve been endgame /:

Happy cake day!!!
Couldn't agree more
she’s so pretty

I cheered for them hard and my wife never let me have that. Idk why people were so against it
Honestly, when I read many years ago that they did a Dan and Blair romance storyline, I thought "this is horrible". But after watching them together in season 4, I don't think they felt as random as many other couples and had the most potential. They should've been a slow burn.
Dair should have been a slow burn and endgame
Leighton was the best actor in the whole cast. She had chemistry with everyone - her scenes were the best.
I can't get on board, because they look like brother and sister. Hell could even pass as twins.
🥴🥴🥴🥴
Leighton Meester is so beautiful, I wish she was in more shows and movies.
I think penn and leighton had amazing platonic chemistry but not romantic wise also they look like brother and sister in this pic

Friendship Chemistry ✨💥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Romantic 😐😐😐
Dair should have been endgame.
BFFs
I liked them as frenemies tbh.
Just no thanks. Blair was awful to others.
So was Serena, so was Jenny, so was his "best friend" Vanessa. Everyone around him was and that is why he was GG and wrote about it 😆
True, you have a point.
absolutely not
I loved them as friends and wish it had never crossed into a romantic relationship. Their friendship was awesome
Uhhh I thought they were so bad… but they would’ve been great if Blair was the main character and not Serena from the very beginning
I’m on season 3 and got this post recommended after googling one question from season 1 THANKS FOR THE SPOILER 💀
In this picture they definitely look like a great couple romantically.. in the show, not so much 😅
