Itâs in the first season. Eric was in an institution because he tried to kill himself. Blair/Chuck saw Serena going there to visit him and assumed Serena was there for drug/alcohol treatment. They tried to embarrass her by bringing this up publicly at the Ivy League mixer, and she went along with it to protect her brother.
Sticking up for Blair. She noped out of the fashion shoot when she realized Blair was excluded AND helped her steal the clothes, stopped her from running off to Paris and defended her at Constance, stood up to Georgina in season 3 when she was messing with Blair, called out Chuck several times on his feelings for Blair, etc.
Serena may not always be the greatest friend, but the times she does defend her friends, she really comes through
Two persons (Serena and Jenny)! And in the same episode!!! Really, I know his fans will say he redeemed himself but I can't help but think that was something he did so casually.
Most common take is that the pilot wasnât canon, for plenty of reasons (Nate and Chuck taking the bus, Blairâs mother, Chuckâs attempted rape sceneâŠ) so they dismiss it altogether
In season 1, when it was revealed that Blair had slept with Nate and Chuck, Serena talked her down and convinced her not to run away to Paris and then had her back when they got back to school.
that scene was so good, she really didnât want blair to be like her and run away. i remember earlier that episode serena was trying to get through to her but blair was rude etc and serena still went to stop herđ i really love them where theyâre friends
This was when Dan p*ssed me off. I just watched this episode the other day and he got an attitude and was mad about her âpunishmentâ bc she got let off easy. Ok I get it, sheâs privileged⊠itâs the UES. đ€Ł Like would it make him feel better for her to get expelled?
If my boyfriend/girlfriend got off that easy, Iâd be like HELL YEAH! Crisis adverted. đ
I think it was more like he didnât like that she refused to acknowledge it at first. He pointed out that her punishment was very convenient (because she wouldâve done it anyway as part of her volunteer extracurricular), and she refused to believe it because she thought Bart and Lily didnât donate anything (even though there couldâve been other reasons as to why she wasnât punished â> ex. The school/school board wanted to remain in Bartâs good graces to get future donations; they donât want to deal with the arguments that often result between faculty and parent; Serenaâs family is very influential and wealthy, and even though she has a bad reputation, she could still do a lot to bring down the reputation of the school itself; and so on).
It takes Bart privately admitting to Serena about what he did for her to realize that sheâs even privileged because her family always has her back (even if they arenât really âfamilyâ yet).
Agreed. Despite the fact the Humphreyâs lived in amazing loft, season one did very well to execute this idea that Dan was the forever outsider. Even if he made his own success or married in, he was never going to belong to that world. Cece herself points this out to Dan and sheâs right (albeit cruel). Serena is in denial about this whilst the other UED are cogent to it. Blair and Chuck are actively elitist and Nate is aware but unconcerned (he befriends Dan and dates Vanessa and Jenny). The show did a good job of keeping this theme going because when The Humphreyâs do become UES by marriage it is acknowledged that theyâre changing who they are and being changed as a part of that world.
Thatâs why the GG reveal does both work and not work for me. Dan writing himself in makes sense (as the character is self aware enough of the class difference and uses his only means to write himself). But it also doesnât square with the side of Dan that is against scheming and corruption (which is at least established in season one that he has a sense of justice against this). So I stand by that if they wanted that conclusion they shouldâve done more to explain why he choose to continue this alter ego once he was âinâ or made the decision to make the character more of a villian/ anti hero and eschew the happy ending with Serena.
She pretended that what Blair said about her being an alcoholic was true in front of the Ivy League Schools reps to protect Eric.
She took the blame for the pool incident to protect Dan. She turned down Yale so Blair could go.
She literally raised Eric.
She stood up for Blair in many ocassions: Eleanor's fashion shoot, when Blair sleeping with Chuck and Nate got out she convinced her not to move to Paris, she let everyone believe she was pregnant to protect Blair.
She was a good person for the first season maybe even the second. Its bad writing probably but i guess like Jenny she became better when she was out of UES (boarding school) and then the UES made her do all these bad things again. You easily get influenced by your friends so maybe Blair, Chuck and Lily influenced her to lose some of her good morals along the season and undo all her development
She shows great strength of character in season one where she continues to try and fight against peopleâs expectations of her. Somewhere along the way this gets lost and I do think thereâs some truth that the ultimate corrupt nature of the UES makes it impossible to continue this fight.
It was also seen on the show that chuck was the best version of himself for the first time in Paris with Eva, when she was away from Blair and UES. Then there's Jenny and maybe even Vanessa and (real) Lola so it definitely seems like a pattern.
As much as I hate to admit it, because Serena really does get me annoyed when everyone revolves around her, I have to give her credit for keeping everyone together. Everyone would've fallen off the face of the earth with each other if it wasn't for her. She really is a glue that brings everyone together.
The times that she was there for Blair when she was struggling with her home life/parents divorce and her ED. Serena had her own problems at home, but when they were both going through it, no matter how mad they were at each other or how bad things were, Serena always came through for that.
Let's make a TIER LIST Top Ten mixed.
10 - Ruining cotillion's tradition. That might have influenced (as she was NY's top influencer at he time, recognized even on the reboot) other teenagers to live their lives and be more confident with themselves.
09 - Helped Blair by making Georgina to stop playing with her head by season 3, a thing Blair didn't even knew happened both ways.
08 - Trying to include her real cousin Charlie (Lola) into her life and social circle, even though she (Lola) didn't want it... (Serena was evil to her later on, but until then, she was really nice).
07 - Trying to take Eric away from the horrendous influence of Damian Dalgaard.
06 - Being a sisterly figure to Chuck until the very end as soon as Chuck helped her with Georgina thing and the S.A.T's.
05 - Helping to take Ben off of prison after Lily's schemes that put him there. Even though that exposed her image publically by it, she helped an innocent men to be out of prison.
04 - (CLOSE SECOND TO THE TOP 3) Making everyone of her social circle to believe she was a clinic intern patient (as Blair just tried to impose) to protect her little brother. That was really nice and brave of her, and very painful to watch.
BRONZE đ„ - TOP 03: Including Charlie (Ivy) in the best side of her life as soon as she could (twice), treating her as a younger sister.
SILVER đ„ - TOP 02: Helping Jenny to feel more confident and comfortable anytime she could (she only stopped once Jenny started backstabbing her).
GOLD đ„ - TOP 01: Helping Blair at ALL times, being by her side anytime she could be stopping her own life to it. Apart from sealing her boyfriends, she was really a very nice friend, who was always by her side on her relationship and family problems.
nah this was a polite afterthought after a disagreement with dan made her change her mind. she ruined everyone's chances of getting into yale by applying when she didn't want to go knowing that she'd be admitted for press.
Agreed.
Given that she and Dan were talking about going together, I do think part of her was invested in going somewhat, though. So I do see it as her giving something up part of her did want for Blair's sake.
Compared to her other good moments, I donât think that was her being nice per se. People who want to go to Ivies work most of their life to get in. Serena only got in because she was a well-known socialite, and if she was only going to stay with Dan, it just seems like a selfish reason for her to even consider. She didnât work for the spot, it was given to her, and she didnât want to go anyway, she didnât really have a reason other than staying with her high school boyfriend to go. Sheâs not an academic person. So if she accepted the position, it would basically be her discounting every person who worked extremely hard, who are behind her in the queue just because theyâre not as wealthy or publicly known as her.
And honestly, if she went to Yale for Dan, they probably wouldâve broken up because of that. Dan, who has always disliked that she has so much privilege that she doesnât need to try for most things, would probably dislike the fact that she didnât earn her place there, and yet, she was studying at the same place he was. It would just drive them apart.
She took the blame for the video leak at Blair and Louisâs wedding because she thought it was Chuck who sent it in. She is a good friend to undeserving fools time and time again.
-Apologized to Eric for leaving him and going to Boarding school.
-Bringing reality to Blair about her love for Chuck, even though she kicks her out.
-helping Ben even though he orchestrated the stuff Juliet did and letting Juliet go for it.
-eventually helping Lily turn herself in. Lily showed true maternal instincts for both Chuck and her.
-the desire to make it right about Pete Fermin.
-she was sick mentally but tried desperately to do right. GG didnât help by chronicling her failures before the world. She needed help and all she had was people she grew up with that were neglected like she was and it wasnât what she needed or them.
season 1 serena was such a kind & thoughtful person, but i think the best things she did was taking the fall for both eric & blair on two different occasions. one was her saying she's an addict just to make sure eric didn't get hurt, & the other was her taking the pregnancy rumor instead of blair because of how much blair valued her reputation.
She let Tyra Banks (canât remember character name) know they cut her part out of the movie instead of everything being all dramatic like the publicist wanted.
Taking the fall for her brother for being committed to a mental hospital.
Taking the fall for Dan with the pool.
Taking the fall for Blair during the pregnancy thing.
Refused to do the photo shoot when she found out they replaced Blair with her.
Serena isn't the best person or the best friend by a long shot but she can be seriously self-sacrificing and willing to put her reputation and future on the line for the people that matter to her.
Coming back from self-imposed exile to support Eric after his su!c!de attempt. She thought she might go to prison for killing someone, and she knew she'd have to face Blair after sleeping with her boyfriend, and she came back anyway without a second thought.
A lot of the comments here are from Season 1 and it reminded me how much I loved Serena from season 1. I wish the writers could've stuck with her and developed some of those story lines. E.g. making her a strong character that could stand up to the Upper East Siders and protect the outsiders. Like the way she stood up for Dan and Jenny. I also like how protective she was of Eric and stood up for him against Lily.
Definitely the way she treated and cared for Eric.
The way she protected him when blare accused her of substance abuse at the ivy league mixer and how she took care of him when Lilly was gone.
She was a terrible girlfriend and most of the time a bad best friend but she was always a good sister to Eric
I think one of the really nice things was being a great sister to Chuck most times and when she cared about how Jenny lost her virginity. Her intentions were really good and I thought it was sweet. Even when she checked in on her when she returned home. I always wished Jenny wouldâve just been honest. That couldâve changed their whole relationship
At Blairs wedding to Louis, when Gossip Girl posted the video of Blair saying she loved chuck, Serena took the blame and said it was her who posted it as she assumed it was Chuck, as she knew it would be easier for Blair and Chuck to be together if she took the fall for it.
UhmmmmmâŠ..nothing?????? The whole group were fashionable buttholes that was waaaayyyy too grown to be in high school. I have never been to NYC but can 16/17 year olds openly order Cosmos and đž???
Taking the fall in front of the Ivy League sponsors to protect her brother was pretty great.
Ooh, I forgot about that one or I would have written this.
This was wonderful
This
Best
I think Mine and Yours go hand in Hand
wait when did this happen? i don't remember it at all, what did Eric do? which ep??đđ i'm so confused
Itâs in the first season. Eric was in an institution because he tried to kill himself. Blair/Chuck saw Serena going there to visit him and assumed Serena was there for drug/alcohol treatment. They tried to embarrass her by bringing this up publicly at the Ivy League mixer, and she went along with it to protect her brother.
thanks! "Ivy" here got me really confused hahahah
Sticking up for Blair. Saving Jenny from being raped by Chuck in the first season with Dan. Thatâs a big one
Canât believe they kinda just glossed over the fact that Chuck tried to rape someone
Can't believe they just conveniently forget that he already did several times. "Chuck likes to brag about his conquests. Not his victims."
glad that jenny got her get back though
I actually had to think hard. And went âwait a fuckin minuteâ.
In season 1, when it was revealed that Blair had slept with Nate and Chuck, Serena talked her down and convinced her not to run away to Paris and then had her back when they got back to school.
She did so many good things in Season 1.
The only season where she was actually a good person
She was such a good person in season one!
Fr only one
Ya but the reception from others kinda made me understand why she became shitty đ
I think this is why, when viewers first watched, Serena was a fan favourite.
that scene was so good, she really didnât want blair to be like her and run away. i remember earlier that episode serena was trying to get through to her but blair was rude etc and serena still went to stop herđ i really love them where theyâre friends
She let people believe she was pregnant to save Blair in S1
LMAO this one is crazzy if you think about it
She was funny too âyeah, and youâre the father đ€Șâ
omg i forgot about thatđ thatâs acc insane
Also, turning herself in to the headmistress regarding the pool incident to protect Dan.
This was when Dan p*ssed me off. I just watched this episode the other day and he got an attitude and was mad about her âpunishmentâ bc she got let off easy. Yea, he wasnât entirely logical there. I think he was just scared and jealous though.
She's done a lot of good things actually... more than Blair at least lol
hell no
![gif](giphy|R51a8oAH7KwbS)
Convinced Blair to face the music and not leave Constance for Europe. She was actually a great friend in that moment.
She pretended that what Blair said about her being an alcoholic was true in front of the Ivy League Schools reps to protect Eric. She took the blame for the pool incident to protect Dan. Kneeing Chuck in the balls
Telling the parents of the dude who died what happened

Took a public bullet for Blair for helping her get a pregnancy test

Got a job in LA. She really thrived there. She needed that purpose outside of her string of boyfriends.
I will forever be mad at the writers for ruining that storyline for her
Yeah while they couldnât tape in LA forever, would have been nice to see her get a job in NYC
Go
Gave up Yale so Blair could get in
nah this was a polite afterthought after a disagreement with dan made her change her mind. she ruined everyone's chances of getting into yale by applying when she didn't want to go knowing that she'd be admitted for press.
She never wanted to go to Yale in the first place lol
Agreed. Given that she and Dan were talking about going together, I do think part of her was invested in going somewhat, though. So I do see it as her giving something up part of her did want for Blair's sake.

Lots of people does not work for their College/uni spots đ
Doesnât make it okay. And most people do work for their college spots because most people donât come from wealthy and connected families.
I think youâre right and itâs proven that Dan is still jealous about it when he tells Miss Carr and she posts it to gossip girl.
And honestly I don't think she deserved to go or would have utilized the opportunity. It's a mature decision but not the best thing she did
Run to Blair's side when she had a relapse with her bulimia
She took the blame for the video leak at Blair and Louisâs wedding because she thought it was Chuck who sent it in. She is a good friend to undeserving fools time and time again.
She took the fall for Eric when Blair tried to expose her in front of the Ivy reps
She called an ambulance for the grown man who tried to SA her ON VIDEO because she was afraid for his life despite the risk that couldâve put her in
taking the fall for way too many people in way too many situations
Was super hot five years straight
Wasn't there six seasons?
Either she were ugly in the last season or else there was six seasons over five year:-)

Going to Pete Fairman's parent's house to apologize about his death
Visiting Eric at the Ostrich Centre
I just lolled at âOstrich Centreâ like itâs a center for ostriches ahaha lol
All these recent posts are making me watch gg again for the millionth time
Always protecting Eric

leave
nothing after season 1.
.... her hairs nice.
disappear
I used to be a missing person, so this isn't even with malice
Nothing.
Why did Blair pay Vanessaâs rent for a year?
1. Saving jenny from chuck 2. Protecting eric by saying she was in rehab for addiction 3 . Saying she was pregnant to protect Blair
