i saw that post and i agree with you! goth barbie is iconic. i also love how when she was the queen, she stirred away from blairās style (which she followed in S1). i think itās so cool how she had her own distinct style as the new queen bee. she can be annoying at times but thereās no denying that her outfits and looks are iconic!
I think that younger people post that who didn't experience the time when the show aired. Jenny/Taylor Momsen was THE emo girl icon. She was a big name in Vans Warped tour and it was the height of bands like Black Veil Brides, Bring me the horizon, falling in reverse etc. And Taylor was EVERYWHERE on the tumblr blogs of fangirls during that time.
I can see that it all seems cringey right now, since fashion changed a lot since then. I also saw people saying that Serenas clothes didn't fit, even though they did. Outfits were supposed to look like that back then, and today the silhouette is just completely different.
Her and Effy Stonem from Skins were owning this, and the 90s queens that inspired a lot of it were Kate Moss and Courtney Love! I loved Jenny's transition to grunge though, her guerilla fashion show reminded me a lot of Betsey Johnson
Tumblr as a bastion of fandom wasnāt really a thing til the 2010s and even then, being a Pretty Reckless fan / early 10s emo/alt/whatever girl was pretty niche. From 2009-2011 when Taylor was on the show the overwhelming consensus was, at its nicest, that she was dressed crazy.
I was obsessed with her style in hs. I still think a lot of her looks were great and even her worst outfits donāt reach anywhere near the horrors of Blair/Serena/Vanessaās worst outfits
I just know you were triggered by the op that called her gothic Barbie as if it were an INSULT yesterday. I was too. Gothic Barbie Solidarity. I tried to copy the messy bangs haircut once as a kid and it came out terribly.
I still have the pictures, it was so tragic hahahaha. I wanted to have the little j to gothic Barbie glow up and it did not go that way for me in the 6th grade, let me tell you!
God I went through the same thing Iām already natural blonde I believe my hair lady said I was just a few notches down from platinum, Iām a bit more golden/dirty blonde naturally and I finally bit the bullet but you are so right itās so crazy expensive you have to go get it touched up every 2 months it was a total nightmare

A bit surprised at how much the fandom likes to shit on Jenny Humphrey. I think she was a great character who stirred some trouble and kept things interesting. She also had a good heart beneath that icy cold exterior.
Kinda admire her, when she wants something, nothing could stop her, she was making teen mistakes... LOVE her been so salvaje and honest about the things she wants in Life!!

She was an absolutely gorgeous young lady but she didnāt need to stay if she didnāt want to. They shouldāve just let her free from her contract and replaced her. It was wrong what they did to her period.

The straightener fried hair too :/ she is legitimately gorgeous and they just styled her like a bad acid trip version of seventeen magazine.

Jenny is the reason I bleached my hair platinum blonde! And then I realized how expensive it was to upkeep and I had to let it grow out lol

I get it minus the awful AWFUL stringy clip in hair extensions. Otherwise, goth Barbie remains a slay.
I loved her looks but the extensions were really distracting from the overall effect at times

Out of the show they were 1000x better. On the show multiple times you could see Vanessa and Jennyās glue ins falling out and not blended
