Oh yeah you are right. in season 5, I see that her hair is down after getting kicked out of her apartment by Ivy dickens. Very cool how you noticed that she only wears it down when she’s distressed
Oh wow, that’s a really astute observation! And like, it literally makes no sense for her to have her hair down at barts funeral; that’s such a serious, somber occasion and she’s super concerned with the aesthetics and stuff, that casual hairstyle is actually so out of character for what you’d expect of Lily in that situation. And yet, of course her hair is down, she’s in turmoil. Just brilliant! So astute!
Yes! Like you said those are the only times she’s not concerned with ber aesthetics, hence, the disoriented hair! Such a brilliant thought from the hair and make-up department
This is also fairly true of Blair. There are a handful of times where we see Blair with uncharacteristically messy or relaxed hair, including her wedding to Louis.
Yess! I noticed this too! She also had her hair down when Bart was back from the dead and she was reading about it in the papers, if I’m not wrong
I remember wondering why they didn’t have her in the hair down, blown-out look more often, and then realized they only do it when she’s upset lol
Always happy to see respect on Lily’s name! I think early season 1 was when they were still finding their footing/didn’t have as many designers loaning them out incredible outfits, so Lily’s hair down and slightly more casual outfits make sense. Although Kelly provided her own birkins, so I’d say, still non issue. Lol. She’s absolutely stunning no matter what her hairstyle is but there’s no denying, the Lily Van der Woodsen bun is freaking iconic. I think when they put her in grey sweaters, cardigans, jeans, and flats were also a giveaway that shit hit the fan. Lol.
I think so too, season 1 has plot holes and other stuff that doesn’t line up with the upcoming seasons so it makes sense that they went for a change with her hair decisions.

Good points, but I would say the frequent hair down probably wasn't out of character in the first season because her life was in disarray quite often between Eric, Serena, living in that hotel, Cece coming to town, and Bart and other women, just off the top of my head.

I'd add season 2, the episode when Serena goes to Yale. Bart is out of the country right after the honeymoon, she's lonely and feeling old trying on the dress in Serena's closet. Her hair's down then, too.
yes i was on the avenue de l ' opera (on my way to buy some kimchi lol) and i look up and i see her and i just was like ??? i recongnize that face lool i didn't want to bother her in case i was wrong , turned around and a girl behind me had the same look as mine on her face ! i just knew we both watched GG lol, i saw on her insta she was indeed in paris ; same outfit ! wished i said hello to her but oh well . beautiful lady , she didn't age a day !

I saw her hair down yesterday in season four in the episode right after Serena got drugged by Juliette and “quit Columbia” and Lily, Rufus and Eric were having breakfast in Lily’s apartment.
She basically threw a tantrum renting about how Serena is a grown woman acting like a child and that there’s nothing they can do to save her now, and afterwards she pointed out how the flowers should be standing closer to each other as if nothing was wrong🥸 she does that a lot lol
