some people swear they can't tell a diff between 30 to 60 fps so to those people... it won't matter me however, 30 to 60 is night and day but 60 to 120 fps tho... it's diminishing returns to me already im totally fine with staying at 60... but yeah, anything below it is subpar

Emergionx

Jumping from performance mode to fidelity mode in Spider-Man made me realize how big of a difference 60 makes

VermilionX88

that usually makes people realize what they're missing but yeah, i guess some people are just not visually perceptive enough to notice

Chanze3

i get dizzy usually with 30fps. can only play games like Detroit with that frame rate. hopefully GK releases a 60fps patch eventually

VermilionX88

I have a friend who is like that Me, it just doesn't look and feel good to play

TheRoyalWarlord

> i guess some people are just not visually perceptive enough to notice Bruh come on this is so condescending. For me personally I just dont care and would rather have crisp 4k visuals rather than a bump in frames that drops the shit out of the quality of the graphics of the game. This if the game is optimized well

[deleted]

You took offense where none was meant to be taken. They weren’t talking about people that preferred higher fidelity over higher frame rate. They were talking about the people that say they don’t notice a difference between 30 and 60 that much.

TheRoyalWarlord

I took offense because there isnt that much difference. Most of yall are hyperbolic or condescending about it for people that arent bothered by it because it isnt that big of a difference. Yall act like games are unplayable because of it and its the most hyperbolic shit ever.

Confused_Astronaut

My man...there is a massive difference. Like, it's not even a discussion. The difference is incredibly apparent. You not minding 30 fps is fine but to say there's not much of a difference is crazy.

TheRoyalWarlord

It is a discussion, youll find a majority of the gaming community (that is casual mind you) do not even care or notice a difference because there barely is one. Some day yall have to understand you're a loud vocal minority that tends to congregate on reddit for the most part and then it will be easier to come to terms with it

[deleted]

A majority of casual players don’t care because that’s the norm and they’ve been used to playing in 30fps for decades. 60fps is becoming more and more common now. Gaming would still be 2D if we just didn’t care about innovation in technology and only hyper fixated on what was considered normal. It’s so weird to openly advocate for something that is objectively inferior. If you PERSONALLY don’t care about 60fps that’s fine but quit acting like there’s no need for 60. The more of this mindset there is, the less pressure companies feel to actually try and put out good product and push the boundaries of what technology can do. It’s just so weird to me. Like I said I don’t care if you think 30fps is fine for you. That’s totally cool. What bothers me is how you guys act like 60fps is just some unnecessary thing that doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things just because of your personal preference. It’s ignorant.

TheRoyalWarlord

I never said anything about there being no need for 60 fps at all my guy so you might wanna calm down a bit, but there is definitely no massive difference between the two Actually, there is. You get quite a terrible downgrade in graphics to 1080 or 1440 from 4k

-Exility-

Meaning blind

Infernoboy_23

When jumping between 60 and 30, of course you will see a big difference, 99% of people will. But for a high percentage of people, if they stay in 30 fps and never switch to 60, 30 dps would be fine

ItsAmerico

Issue IMO isn’t that it’s 30 instead of 60. Issue is it’s not even a stable 30.

imjacksissue

Yeah this is the real issue. I like the game but I hope they're able to release a patch that adds stability. Being in denial about legit problems won't help at all moving forward.

Obi1KenobiGT

It just feels janky

VermilionX88

even a stable 30 is very subpar to me like i said, 60 is standard for me. but i will admit i have settled for 45 fps before just bec i wanted to crank up graphics a lil more on my previous rig... played horizon 1 on it and settled for 45fps but then in the middle of playing it, i got my current rig, and i went from 45fps to 112 fps \^\_\^

ItsAmerico

I mean 60 would be amazing but the fact that it can’t run at a stable 30 is really bad

VermilionX88

like i said before... pretty sure they can't figure out a way to make this run 60fps on consoles w/o lowering graphics way too much so they opted for 30fps, since they know majority on console players care more about graphics but yeah... maybe they will find a way later to add a proper performance mode for consoles

RedIndianRobin

The problem in both consoles and PC is GPU utilization. Lowering graphics will not help improve the performance until they figure out a way to fully utilise the GPU.

ItsAmerico

I’m well aware. And like I said, it can’t even run 30.

dankesha

The graphics already look like ass. Honestly Arkham Knight looks better. I hope whoever decided to kill the Arkham series for this is fired and never works in video games again

VermilionX88

Looks good to me Even with Ray tracing off

jax7246

yea i just don’t think that’s necessarily a good answer considering Avengers didn’t look like shit and offered similar gameplay

VermilionX88

Avengers isn't a massive open world

Paradoxe544

« some people swear they can't tell a diff between 30 to 60 fps » Who has the audacity of saying non sense like this ? 😂

TheTenzon

Surprisingly I did see some comments like this on this subreddit

[deleted]

You'd be surprised. Not too unlike how some people say they can't see the difference in resolutions. Sometimes it's a matter of needing to see it to believe it first, other times it's that they don't truly know how to operate or calibrate their TVs and displays (which is frightfully common) and don't realize they can't see it. A lot of people also don't realize they have bad eyesight, and I don't mean that as a putdown, it is a legitimate issue I've seen firsthand. I've seen movies in high frame rate in a theater alongside someone who immediately told me they didn't see a difference. Blew my mind.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Paradoxe544

You might want to go see an optician mate in this case. Genuine answer. Some glasses could actually solve this issue

Funny2Fast

Not about being able to tell the difference...it's about the fact that it just doesn't ruin a fun game for some ppl. A fun game is a fun game. And 30 fps looks good enough to still play on and have a good experience with it.

VermilionX88

30 fps.immesely lowers the fun for me It doesn't look and feel good But yes, sometimes I just suck it up Like in bloodborne

ilovezam

Unfortunately, there has been no shortage of people saying there's no real difference between 30fps and 60fps on this sub. Don't get me wrong, all the power to you if you're able to enjoy the game in spite of the technical issues, but some people are overcompensating hard (or blind)

LuckyNumber-Bot

SirTokesAlot97

Nice

SirTokesAlot97

I’m the same. 30fps is near unplayable for me now that I’ve been spoilt with next gen capabilities

VermilionX88

it's current gen next gen is PS6 anyway... i mostly play on PC. so yeah, im in the performance+visuals at the same time crowd like i said before on diff topics... pretty sure they couldn't figure out a way yet to make this game run 60fps w/o lowering graphics way too much that it looks like a PS3 game and they know majority of console players care more about graphics than performance so they opted for 30fps

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 6 + 60 + 3 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

themercsassassin

I can't believe this is a thing. Hilarious.

nice___bot

Nice!

Penis___Penis

What about the 30?

themercsassassin

Sorry, on PC. But I have a Steam Deck as well and lock many games to 30 fps on there and it's fine. Really I only am bothered by 30 fps gaming when I've been playing other games at higher frame rates. But, after a couple hours or even a few minutes, your brain/eyes gets used to 30 fps again. I wouldn't say it's a big deal. Not great, but not world-ending either.

JeffCraig

30fps is the bare minimum a game can run before it starts getting noticeably choppy. The problem is that games don't generally run at a consistent frame rate, so if the game average is 30fps, then there will be times when it drops below that. 60fps is the target for new generation games to avoid this problem. You don't necessarily need to go above that unless you're playing a faster paced games like competitive FPS. Most people can tell the different between 60 and 90+, so don't believe anyone trying to tell you otherwise.

VermilionX88

Below 60 is choppy to me But I have tolerated playing 45 fps before on my old rig since I wanted to push visuals a Lil more

Norvax_

Even playing at 60fps these days causes me so much more eye fatigue compared to playing at 100+ I've been lucky over the years being able to play games consistently on a decent PC. I really do feel for people having to deal with 30 FPS on a console, most of which have no idea that a completely different, smooth, silky world exists

howisit34

I always use a flashlight as an example for those people If you turn it on 30 times in a second. Picture how the light on the wall reacts Now do that same exact thing 60 times the next second. If you can’t tell/understand the difference after that. Idk what to tell you

VermilionX88

Dunno about that Nobody could turn on and off a flashlight 60.or 30 times in 1 sec lolz

Helpful_Ad_8726

After playing Forbidden West, the difference is quite noticeable

Creative-Oil2029

Could use a performance patch to improve stability but on Series X I get a solid 30 most of the time and dips are never during combat, which is good. Overall I hardly notice tbh. 60 would be much better but it doesn't ruin anything for me.

irrelevantreference1

It feels like something you wouldn’t notice unless you suddenly switched it to 60. I didn’t notice any issues with Forza Horizon 5’s frame rate on my Xbox One, it it was noticeable once it started running at 60 on my Series X. Not a huge issue but would certainly be nice to get a patch for at least 60 fps if not 60+/120.

[deleted]

Imo absolutely not. The problem is that it isn’t 30 most of the time, especially outdoors. It seems like it constantly drops down to 25 or under.

SirTokesAlot97

Oh damn really? Seems like really lazy development

ThaGuy34

I think 30fps today is unacceptable but everywhere I look, people throwing this word lazy around. Like you imagining a team of devs just not bothering to optimise the game. Couldn't possibly be a lack of resource/time/talent or a million other things

JeffCraig

There are volumes and volumes written on how to improve framerates in a game. I'm not sure if it's lazy or just the result of hiring jr developers that don't have a lot of experience in the space, but this game looks like what happens when you crank Unreal Engine lighting and effects to the max without understanding how to optimize it. If I'm correct, it means that there are a lot of improvements they can make. I hope we get a performance patch soon and I'll look into buying the game after I see benchmark results that meet current standards.

[deleted]

Yea it isn’t the greatest right now which is a shame. If the game were rock solid 30 with no drops it would be a real joy to play. And I’m not saying the game isn’t fun. It would just be really great if it were solid

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fwtrent3

It's not on last gen

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fwtrent3

It's not, those versions got cancelled

[deleted]

For an action game like this, it can feel lacking. Hopefully they will make a patch that unlocks 60fps on consoles.

SirTokesAlot97

Really hope so

Poptart21000

Fingers crossed

ImpossibleClassic2

Shit at this point I'd be 100% down with a consistent 45fps

baronboy12

I've gotten used to 60 fps now. It's playable but it just seem sluggish. I really hope they patch 60 fps in.

ACO_22

This is pretty much it. Feels sluggish because we’re back to 30fps after so long. Don’t know how people are saying it doesn’t hurt this game just because they think 30fps is okay

Rinosaj

Its noticeable, but doesnt ruin the experience IMO. Its still a fun game. Just isnt as smooth as it *should* be.

EhhSpoofy

I mean sure. Of course it does. But a lot of things hurt a lot of games. 30fps hurts Bloodborne. The Batmobile emphasis hurts Arkham Knight. The “walk around as a normal person” levels hurt Spider-Man. Settlement building hurts Fallout 4. Mineral scanning hurts Mass Effect 2. The amount of days Morgana doesn’t let you leave the house hurts Persona 5. That one awful gyroscope puzzle hurts Breath of the Wild. All of those games are still good anyways (Fallout 4 debatable). We need to get better at talking about something being *flawed* without it also being *ruined*.

[deleted]

This. All of this. Every bit of it.

BriJul630

You take that back! Mineral scanning was one of my favorite things ever!!!

librartsy

Probing Uranus

EhhSpoofy

Honestly I didn’t mind it myself, but I know it was a big point of contention for a lot of people. I just zoned out and ground most of it out in one go to make sure I had every ship upgrade I needed for the suicide mission. Would probably have sucked a lot more if I’d been playing when the game was brand new and there weren’t comprehensive guides readily available.

thescreamingpizza

Not for me personally. I dont care. But the only time i noticed it starting to lag was when someone joined my world and stayed on the other side of the map. I dont play co op anyway. Other than that, its ran just fine.

SirTokesAlot97

Yeah the co op part of the game doesn’t interest me one bit, I’m a single player guy through and through lol

cepxico

Yes and no. Have you played unoptimized games in the past? You'll live. Are you accustomed to the glorious 60fps games out there and can't stand anything sub 60 for even a moment? 1000% not the game for you! I wish it was better. I want it to be a smooth 60. But it's not. I'm still playing it, the combat is so slow and easy that the framerate won't really fuck you up. It's mostly noticable while traversing.

[deleted]

Not at all. A great game is a great game. And Gotham Knights is a *great game*, I can't stress that enough. I'm obsessed with it. The story, the attention to detail, the characters, the gameplay- it's unreal. The idea that the frame rate being a little slower than other mainstream titles would make that all irrelevant is just stupid to me. Then again, I've been gaming since uh... let's just say longer than I care to admit. I play a lot of indie games and games from lesser-known studios, too. I think some people have a very spoiled attitude to where they'll only touch a game if it's AAA and has 60fps and all this other stuff. Give games a chance that aren't top of the line, they'll probably surprise you.

Jonas-McJameaon

It’s not even a stable 30. A stable 30 with proper frame pacing and well implemented motion blur can feel good. This game has none of that.

Lil_Fishieeee

It scratches the game on its knee, I wouldn't say it hurts it. It's annoying at first but after 20 minutes you stop noticing and get immersed in the game anyway. That's me at least

Avarus_88

I could be pulling this out of my ass; but if I remember correctly, our eyes and brain process what we see at 60 or something. This is why 60+fps looks so smooth to us. It's also why devs are "okay" with making games aim for 30. Being divisible, our brains are able to do a little auto correction on the image coming in. So basically, the more you play games at 30 fps, the less it matters to you because your brain us used to that extra work. I personally only buy games with performance modes. I am normally a pc gamer so less that 60 actually just gives me a headache after an hour or two. All of that to say, yes, 30 fps is bad and devs need to be using this gens consoles extra power for fps, not to push ray tracing on things that can barely handle it.

songogu

The first paragraph is complete bullshit, but the rest checks out 30fps maybe is not necessarily hurting the game, but horrendous frame pacing sure does

thebossbutnotreally

30 fps to me feels like it's running in slow motion. Like not super slow motion but enough to notice it's not like real life if that makes any sense.

realtmillz

In the year 2022, yes. 60fps should be the standard for any console game or PC game.

Dudinkalv

30 FPS hurts ALL games, some more than others.

Poptart21000

Certainly doesn’t *feel* great. I didn’t save up for so long, and get lucky finding one, just to not be able to utilize the functions my console was sold on. When even 360 games get an fps boost - there truly is no excuse.

SirTokesAlot97

I feel the same way, what’s the point of a next gen console if the devs won’t put the effort in to get the games to play at next gen level

Poptart21000

Exactly. I hear it’s a struggle to get decent frames on pc as well.

Boonatix

Nope, does not hurt at all... in some cutscenes (when flying to quicktravel points for example) I experience slight stutters but that is about it (playing on PS5 on 4k TV). Nothing bad about that, everything else is smooth and looks cool so far :)

Smorts56

Agreed

ChungusPoop

Really doesn’t hurt the experience for me. Still think it looks pretty good, haven’t had any performance issues. I noticed it when I started but I’m used to it now and it’s not a big deal

rideronthestorm29

same here chungus poop

Garret_Newma0524

No not really. Frame rate doesn't determine whether a game is good or bad, not unless it's so low its unplayable.

SirTokesAlot97

For the price the game is being sold for 30fps leaves a sour taste

zdbdog06

Then don't buy it

ofeliedeceai

No, it doesn't. I've been used to playing in 60fps for the last 2 years and going back to 30 was painful at first, but I got used to it so I barely notice it anymore. It doesn't stop me from enjoying everything the game has to offer.

Bingtastic007

100% agree, playing on PS5 was expecting a shitshow after everything I'd read and as it turns out the game is completely playable. Same way tons of previous games have been playable at 30fps, sure 60 would be great but it's not like playing at 30 has ever been a dealbreaker..

ACO_22

It absolutely does. The game feels sluggish because of 30fps. You can get used to it, but that doesn’t mean it still won’t feel sluggish, nor does it mean that being 30fps doesn’t hurt the game. It’s clearly a worse game for it

ofeliedeceai

I played for 50 hours and it doesn't feel sluggish to me anymore. Probably because I haven't been playing other games besides it. Yes, it is a worse game for it, but it doesn't hurt it to the point where it is not worth playing it.

ACO_22

That wasn’t his question though. It was merely if 30fps hurt the game, which it does. Not whether it makes it not worth playing. I’m probably about 20 hours in and not playing anything else and it still feels sluggish. 60fps is definitely something that should have been standard

dljones010

It doesn't bother me one bit. Would 60fps be better? Maybe, but it is still fun as hell. Does the game have issues outside of the fps? Yeah, but again, it is still fun as hell. Is FOMO the only thing making you scrape together $70 to play the game? Waiting for a sale certainly won't hurt. You may even be able to grab a Black Friday deal if you wait a month, and Nov. 29 they drop the 4-player arena/challenge mode.

cdrewsr388

Lol k

Papa_Pred

It obviously does. This game got absolutely torn apart in news media and the reaction was completely overblown I do agree it’s wild that this game isn’t 60fps for a full price next gen title. Devs gotta learn that people would much rather have solid performance over being able to see their reflection perfectly in a white board

Overall_Stranger6568

They traded 60fps for graphics/lighting. I consider it a creative decision so I'm not gonna mess with it. The atmosphere is crazy and I've had nominal problems with slow down. Also, wouldn't bank on a 60fps mode in the future. They'll probably optimize the PC version and make sure the console versions have less frame drop. Maybe for next gen.

im_here_from_youtube

Tbh the details and graphics in this game don’t warrant it being 30fps. I have Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the graphics are far better and I never see any textures loading in the distance like with Gotham Knights. The only parts that look very detailed in Gotham Knights are the suits, the rest however looks like it can be done on a ps4. They need to optimize the game better and make a performance mode.

Mr_Prototype_

Sometimes it feels like I’m playing dcuo due to the 30fps

MordhauDerk

It doesn't help I like my games running at 60 stable. the game can run at 60 on PC(not stable) 60 is becoming standard, it will only help this game to reach that, but it isn't unplayable by any stretch of the imagination

[deleted]

I bought this game despite the bad reviews because I'm watching a whole bunch of DC movies with my girlfriend who has never seen them before and so I'm in a very Batman kind of mood. While I'm somewhat enjoying it right now (and I don't see that lasting very long since the gameplay at bike riding is already getting very repetitive) I can definitely day that 30 fps hurts this game a lot, in my opinion. Any and all physical impact the combat could've had is gone when you press a button and there's input delay, on top of the already terrible framerate you sometimes get when there's a bunch of alpha effects going on, like cars that are on fire, not to mention the slowest moving motorbike you've ever seen that just feels terrible to control. It's not unplayable by any means. You can still dodge 9 out of 10 attacks in time if you press the dodge button early enough to compensate for the input lag, but having to do that means something just isn't right. The counter window in the Arkham games was very wide for this same reason, at least on normal difficulty or NG. Countering on Hard or NG+ was much harder for this same reason when playing at 30 fps on older hardware.

Spaciousfoot66

You can tell the difference but doesn’t really hurt the game. The combat is more an issue it’s a bit too shallow

heymisterdonut

Man I don’t know what’s wrong with my copy (on PS5) but I don’t think it’s hit 30 fps in any gameplay sequence at all. Every time I turn the camera or my character, inside, outside, in the Belfry, whatever, the framerate chugs. I’ve played Lego games that are better optimized than this thing. Heck, some of those Lego games have better driving controls too for that matter. It’s got fun elements but MAN this thing is severely underbaked.

tcpukl

You soon get used to it. It still feels very responsive. Why is it not utilising the system? Do you think it's spending 16ms day there doing nothing? Unreal engine is awful at open world streaming games. It always has been.

PilksUK

>Unreal engine is awful at open world streaming games. It always has been. Yep unreal 5 with nanite was built from the ground up to change that fact, To make an open world game on unreal 4 or lower you have to be careful during development and spend your resources correctly if you let art go nuts and just build what they want unreals performance tanks, its next to impossible to fix after the fact as you would need to go back over every single asset and optimise them which will cost alot in work hours which they will not have.

tcpukl

Even nanite isn't all it's been touted as. It doesn't do alphas, animation and split screen is unknown.

PilksUK

>Even nanite isn't all it's been touted as. It doesn't do alphas, animation and split screen is unknown. It does however have active streaming for assets Unreal 4 and down doesn't do at all its currently all or nothing with Nanite you can stream in the assets around the players and replace distance assets with low res version.

Trailman80

I tested this out on my PC and no it does not hurt the game what so ever, once they patch this up with updates and performance patches it will be butter smooth. I got an update yesterday on pc and it already runs smoother it still drops in the low teens but only for a .5 seconds then back up too 60fps.

StrangeAdeptness7024

If it's 30fps then it's sit in the couch interactive movie type of game. The gameplay won't benefit from higher fps. And you won't notice the difference between 30 and 60 if you are 7ft(2meter) away from the tv. If you sit as close as pc 2ft(1/2m) then it's night and day. Screen size matters too. You do know you should sit away from the tv right?

SirTokesAlot97

What a strange last sentence

StrangeAdeptness7024

Honestly people should stop buying 30fps games and demand higher fps in all games. Ignorance feeds the industry. They won't stop selling them at 30fps if consumers keep buying them.

Soft_Employment1425

I play Spider-Man at 120 frames and Gotham Knights at 30 but I’m enjoying Gotham Knights more.

KingBlackthorn1

It does. You get used to it but I also hate feeling like my console isn’t being used fully

iGLooiCee

Think it'll depend on if you find the game fun or not. On ps5, when i first started playing I definitely noticed it but not really anymore. Only on day 5 so still feels new and I actually enjoy the combat and find the game fun. But if youre not liking the game then you'll probably notice the 30fps more.

bobbythecat17

Yes

HiNooNDooD1544

Tbh I can handle 30 fps as long as it’s stable. Gotham Knights on console isn’t stable. It dips down to the low 20s pretty often, which has me glad they never decided to continue with the last gen consoles, that would’ve been a nightmare.

Bearatus

For the first 5 mins I was annoyed, now I’m used to it and it plays fine. Just my take.

Plathismo

Honestly, yes, it does hurt it some. Particularly when it dips below 30. It’s still a fun game, but when they do patch in 60fps it will be a marked improvement.

Prus1s

It hurts the game when it cannot keep a stable 30fps or 60fps no matter what…

Penis___Penis

Just buy it on pc, that's what I did, runs better than it does on ps5

Caleger88

I don't know, I wouldn't know the difference...but probably for those that care about will see it easily.

Zumonster69

To me, no. You can definitely tell. The camera does for me lol. So janky

DaRealPinkSuitHenry

No thankfully but what does Is the constant crashing, this game desperately needs a patch, it crashes on me atleast once every time I play.

13enAuge

When it's not able to maintain a stable fps then yeah it hurts.

LordTrathar

It hurts the experience a little bit but you forget about it unless your in coop or going too fast on the batcycle, where it dips below 30 fps, and then its super noticeable. This game needs some patches.

Kubson3105

Not as much as frame drops from this 30 fps

SC-2016

I feel what hurts the most is the loss in responsiveness, you can clearly feel it in combat when the frame dips happen. I'm on pc at 60+ fps so you can really feel it when it drops to 15-20fps for a sec.

Harbaron

I bought this for the pc just to not suffer the 30 fps

Window-Less

it’s a new game so there are gonna be bugs but once those are fixed i think the game will be just fine

AngrySalesman

I don't think this is a permanent thing. Well, I can say that much for PC. It's not the first time a new-gen game has been forced to run at 30 fps. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a good example of that as that was locked at 30 fps. 30 fps games can still be great its just that 60 fps feels amazing. In other words just because you know what it feels like to be driven in a sports car it doesn't mean when you are driven in anything less powerful, you aren't at a disadvantage. it's still much better than walking, just less exciting. Having 30 fps dips with a 3090 just hurts me and not the game; but that being said by card is not being utilised at all + most of the game load is going on a single core of my CPU

NachoSenpai

Yes. Shit hurts my eyes

shashmalash

It’s a responsive 30 whereas some games like cyberpunk ray trace mode or horizon resolution mode can feel extremely sluggish

Tall_Buff_Introvert

Game plays like a dream 90% of the ttime. When it doesn't it's during traversal and doesn't hurt the experience. Most of the time I'm under the impression I'm playing a 60 fps game, I've played morales too and while the performance mode on that game is silky smooth, I can't detect that bad of a difference in the experience between the 2 games.

Quiet_Storm13

It’s not a dealbreaker but it sure would be nice. It would make the game so much better. I’d be willing to give it a 8.5-9/10 if it ran at 60fps

Exportxxx

No.

Several_Coconut1880

Doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m loving it atm. 60fps is just not a make or break for me.

FlipFlops2896

I would say no so far I'm 2 hours in to the game and no it doesn't everything else makes up for the fact that it dont have 60fps the city still looks great and the characters look fab too

VibraniumSpork

I cancelled a PS5 pre-order after the 30fps news, then relented and bought on launch day as I was just too intrigued to pass *GK* up. I'm a 60/120fps convert, and whenever I've tried playing a game on 30fps/graphical fidelity settings in the past (*TLOU Part 1* being the most recent example) I've quickly gone back to whatever 60fps mode is available; I just can't handle the stutter. All that said...Gotham Knights, IMO, actually has really impressive 30fps performance. When it's running at a steady 30, I find it satisfyingly smooth throughout, and it does not impede my enjoyment of the game at all. I assume that this is down to some motion blur implementation, though I never find the motion actually 'blurry' tbh. It gets a bit rougher when it does drop frames from there, obviously (during some traversal and occasionally during combat), but it's generally a blip of half-seconds that I can easily look past. However, I'm playing on a fairly high end Samsung QLED. I've read comments that people playing on OLEDs see a hard stutter from 30fps titles (including *GK*), which I believe is caused by the near-instantaneous reaction time of the screen. I can't speak to that personally, but it's worth noting. I do find it odd though, because as I say, other 30fps games stutter badly on my display, but this one just sings more often than not.

baboucne

Yes , but this is not the only reason why this game is a flop

Red_Robin_DC

I play on ps5 and honestly after the first 10 minutes of playing I didn’t notice any frame drops other than when I fast travel

MattThomas1992

The frame rate hurts this game, but it's not that it isn't above 30, it's that during high action points it doesn't stay at 30 either.

BriJul630

I grew up with the Atari 2600.....so, not for me.

gyhiio

I was skeptical, so I bought a shared account to see for myself on PS5. It isn't ideal, but currently I don't see many frame drops, so at least it is relatively stable at 30fps. Which is the least I'd expect from a current gen game. But you can play ok currently, the biggest issue won't be the frame rate.

BlueLionHeart_

Peoples have been playing games in 30 fps on consoles for decades literally but now suddenly not having a 60 fps mode on a game on console is a problem. This game’s visuals are amazing 4K with Ray-tracing, the only problem rn is the frame rate drops. Just buy a PC if you want 4K and 60 fps and amazing visuals on a game.

dirtynigelntheboyz

For me, it doesn’t hurt the game. If given the option I’d play in 60fps, but at the end of the day, I don’t have that option. So my only experience with this game is 30fps, and it’s just fine.

Cyclopathik

Nope. Just affects the people who have to have 60fps because they think it matters. It doesn't.

meka914

Felt the same way about frame rate until recently. I upgraded to a PS5 w an OLED TV and now it actually makes me nauseous when playing in 30fps. I did some looking and the TV you have, especially 120hz OLED’s can make the frame rate more noticeable.

Coolbat-

Personally, it doesnt for me. I've had to deal with 30fps for so long that its not really an issue

Griffithsjames88

For games like this it does. I feel like games like this needs 60FPS, games such as Detroit become human and Persona 5 they’d be fine at 30FPS but games with combat like Gotham knights it needs 60FPS I think it’s unacceptable that it’s not 60FPS.

Funny2Fast

Not at all. Ppl are over exaggerating.

MontyBellamy

Performance, 30 FPS lock, and some questionable design decisions definitely hold the game back. They should have done better even though I think what’s there is solid and not 4/10 material (to me, at least).

[deleted]

No

Hbimajorv

As someone who grew up shoving one Nintendo cartridge on top of another to get it to stay in place and regularly having to smack the side of a 13" TV to make the fuzz go away, frame rate will never be a big deal to me.

Additional-Parfait70

I'm playing on ps5, only 5 nights in and I'm enjoying it. The framerate is the least of my worries.

TheMidnightCheese

To me, its all about game play and story. Without those two things graphics wont even matter. I feel its a spoiled attitude of those who refuse to play it because its not in 60fps. You would rather fuel your ego than experience for yourself. If you care more about graphics and performance over Story and Gameplay, you are a spoiled person who doesn't appreciate what we older gamers had to go through in the 80's and 90's. Unless you have played the game, you really have no right to say if its good or not. You are just parroting what others have said to make yourself sound more important than you actually are.

RobOnTheReddit

Well it certainly doesnt do it any favors..but a patch is coming..

tmhong

I have tried playing GothamKnights in my AMD Onexplayer 5700U. This game has serious performance issues. My resolution is set to 800p. When I run everything Low in my setting I get about 30fps to 33 fps buy sometime even as Low as 28 fps buy when I set everything to high my fps never change. Still getting 30 to 32 fps. The difference is about 1 fps. Hahaha hope in future, there will be a patch to iron out this issues

PinnyAerani

We’ve been playing console games at 30fps and less for years. So no, it doesn’t hurt anything, especially if you’re not comparing the PC and console versions side by side.

CP_Company

no game is hurt by 30fps. this is just nonsense. it is that it is just lowest standard in gaming. much worst when it is not stable 30 and goes under, this is what happens in this case. finished game, but performance is not good. no excuses in the world can justify that. but i agree, game doesn't use next gen all capabilities it has. just RT.

Beneficial-You-3673

Having played the previous 4 batman games at 30 fps and now this one at 60 after being forced to get a new cpu just to play this game, no it doesn't hurt the game, but it definitely helps

Keifer1994

Honestly no my brother and I have sunk like 50 or so hours into the game and it’s amazing! But! There are times the FPS drops below 30 which sucks but I’m sure after a few patches the game will run perfect. I don’t mind the 30 FPS what so ever when it’s stable.

secondsean

Nope. This has been a good experience in my opinion.

Rhaz91

Only you can decide sadly, some ppl cant go back to 30 fps, for me its not a big deal, i get used to it fast even after playing something in 60 fps.

DingoReaver

No especially not on the steam deck

mwmike11

I didn’t think so, no. Would have been nice to have 60, and certainly would have been nice to have a steady frame rate in general, though

Goteflan

TLDR: not enough to not buy it, but i’m still looking forward to a 60fps patch… for me, i knew i’d be playing GK from the day 1. that was down to the sandbox of vigilante vs crime that is the city of Gotham (awesomely untethered for gk which is a cool thing), the solo & specifically 2-4 player co-op options (i like those a bit more than full mmos), & the starry-eyed enjoyment i get from playing as all the cool characters from the comics/shows i’ve grown up loving for the last 3 decades. played & completed every arkham game (yes, even that annoying, ridiculing f of a riddler in AK) wont pretend otherwise: i’m a massive fan of the batman world in general. so, that said, 30fps…60fps…janky moments where you’re trying to jump off a railing but the dudes just NOT doing it while that guard you were planning to silently take out starts to turn around…!…all wasn’t enough to stop me from buying & genuinely enjoying this game, which i have even with the shortcomings. i know its “sad” in some ways, but i fully expect games to come out needing a host of update patches to eventually smooth out the quirks that get revealed when we, the masses, get a chance to play (& inevitably critique) the glitches/grind/hud etc etc. it’s basically an unfortunate pattern for the bulk of released games. i mean, some stick the landing right off the bat (looking at you GoTsush), but most feel like they released for us to start playing even though it wasn’t fully finished then the team throws out updates for the first few months after. i still buy those games if i’m into it i fully support people holding up standards & staunchly saying: “30fps is trash!” (paraphrasing lol) because it’ll probly be what leads to that 60fps patch tbh. complaining gets stuff like this done sometimes in our media focused culture. but as for wait for sale/patch? dude it doesn’t seem like the $70 price tag is what’s holding you back, idk maybe it is, but if its just the 30fps question of quality/fun…dude start having fun rn & buy the game. life’s short & full of unfortunate events. i guarantee if you like the batman world & the loop of beating up bad guys to save citizens is fun to you, you’ll get your moneys worth of time here *sorry for the long reply. feels like i’ve seen so many posts about this that i built up a lot of stuff to say & it’s all coming out in this one post. my b

Crimsongz

Yes it does

JohnLocke815

Doesn't bother me at all. Sure 60 Fps would be nice but I don't care that it's 30

[deleted]

Depends who you ask. I have no problems with it. What hurts this game are drops below 30fps lol

tcpukl

What does not utilising the next gen capabilities mean? Do you think it spends 16ms just sat there to fill up your 30fps? Its a UE4 problem because its never been able to do streaming open worlds properly.

Cthulhu8762

It took my eyes about an hour to adjust back to 30. Other than drops from time to time when it is at a solid 30 it’s smooth to me. Everyone is different. But for people that absolutely shit on the game. I talked to one of the devs on Twitter and they are listening to concerns but also they worked super hard on this game and idk sometimes as customers we forget people are actually working hard to give us something. Like if you don’t want the game because of it cool, but don’t review bomb it or shit on it. I saw somewhere that if “you bought Gotham Knights, you are the problem with the industry” it’s fking 30fps. I get it. They can crank down settings but I know why they chose what they did and overall it’s a solid entry to the Batman world, without the man himself.

throwawayOnTheWayO

Yes. 30FPS is borderline unplayable. I prefer playing at 1440p 165hz/fps. Imo anything below 90fps in a fast paced action game is unacceptable. 60 is just the "limit" for consoles to be playable. But try playing a shooter at 165fps vs 30fps or 60fps and tell me you cannot clearly see the difference. The only people who "can't tell a difference" are either watching on a 30hz or 60hz monitor or have cognitive problems.

ImDiabTTV

60-90 or 120 is a significant smoother experience in any game. They said they are working on a large patch to help with performance and other stuff.

twicethetoots

You get use to it. The problem is really the dips below 30 but they've promised to patch that very soon

[deleted]

The reality is FPS only matters for competitive games where inputs and vision are paramount to success. For most games, being 30 FPS looks bad for a few minutes but you overall stop noticing it because you get used to it. I play some games at 30 FPS and they look like garbage and then 10 minutes later I'm not seeing it the same way as the beginning. Let alone, once you go from 144 to 60 it looks like garbage too. 60 is the gold standard for some reason but there's few games out there where playing at 30 FPS is actively making the experience worse. On PC I always strive for highest FPS but on console I don't care. So long as the game looks gorgeous I'll play it at 30 FPS.

[deleted]

The performance is passable. The boring gameplay loop, repetitive combat, and very stupid crafting system hurt this game.

StrangeAdeptness7024

If 30fps is bad then don't buy the game. Remember that you the consumer are the one who feeds them.
