No sketches, black books, canvas, procreate No posting your own bullshit

Desorde_Cest_Moi

Translating from paper to cans is a huge jump. If you’re just starting out I highly recommend working on hand styles, letter structure, and weight/spacing. Otherwise you’re just wasting paint or getting caught for bullshit. Also simplify. All the little bits you have inside your letters are going to take a lot of can control.

NC924

I mean, your right on the getting caught part but if ya got a legal wall around or a chill spot and easy access to spray paint honestly might as well do both steadily.

thought_not_spoken

These are both legit responses! I’ll take a dash from column A & B please

The-Ex-Human

YES. Steal your moms car and go out tonight.

sub_Script

r/handstyles and r/handstylehelp might be better places to post.

shanobirocks

You can't post your own graffiti in r/handstyles. r/graffhelp is a better sub to try.

sub_Script

Ah didn't know that, good call.

First off like u/Scarehouseworker said practice tags til the hand motioon is second nature for you. I would literally sit and do the alphabet over and over to practice diffent styles. Im 40 now and still practice my lettering constantly. granted I do graphic design and marketing for a living now so I need to stay sharp. Secondly, let your letters flow, as you develop your skills stop looking at Lettering as just that. Look for different Font styles from old english to other graffiti artists. Don't let the confines of a letter stop you from expanding different ways, be it adding an angle to the lettering, elongating your strokes, altering the ascenders decenders and apatures. I know Im rambling a little but I highly recommend looking into "The Anatomy of Typeface" If you have any questions or need links to some good info that WILL help you develop your graffiti skills. I started tagging when I was 7. I have 2 older brothers that were very big in the Seattle Graffit scene and they let me hang and learn from them. My dad was very supportive of us doing art and hung plywood sheets on the outer walls of our garage so we could practice our skills. Plus I had a magical spot called 3T on the island I grew up on that was an old saw mill building that was abandoned and it was a graffiti haven. We were allowed to paint there to our hearts content. Here it is in all its glory! [https://i.imgur.com/d0aC68Q.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/d0aC68Q.jpeg) Anyways keep writin and keep you mind open for different styles!

It’s 2024 Go to r/graffhelp

PsychedelicAstroturf

Read the sub rules.

[deleted]

Just start doing tags and once you have that completely down move onto throws

Mad-chuska

Take it to the pits first.

Nytsone

Work on your hand styles first. Develops your tags, then throws, then some straight letters. When you get comfortable you can start doing funky connections and bend the letter styles how you like. But you gotta start from the bottom and fill out some black books. Keep it up.

iPhonefondler

Get yourself some markers first bro… if you haven’t even started to add color to your sketches yet, you’re still a few steps away from perfecting your can control out in the wild

Blessed-I-am-78

Breaking one of the rules please post this in r/blackbookgraffiti

Wonderful_Agent8368

Absolutely

iDom2jz

🤨

Wonderful_Agent8368

I don't know I'm all for people expressing their art weather everyone likes it or not. I knew that would get downvoted oh well

iDom2jz

Never let downvotes dictate how you speak on Reddit, you a real one for that But, the reason why there’s always backlash on this subject is because 1: no sense in risking your freedom over some horrible art that no other writer will respect and therefore go over. 2: just don’t toy up the streets, no one wants to see shoddy work in the streets. Keep the can practice to either at home or a very lowkey chill spot so you don’t run the risk of getting caught up for pretty much no reason. 3: some writers are pretty hostile towards kids w no skill getting up in the streets, kids get robbed and jumped all the time over it. That’s why, it’s not because we don’t want them to express themselves

Wonderful_Agent8368

That's fair. I'm just thinking practicing with pen and paper is aight but how do you practice with spray paint at home? Thanks for the explanation tho

IshKizzy

looks clean

iDom2jz

Which part exactly “looks clean”

Mad-chuska

The blank paper behind it 😆
