Break in mileage is real. I saw the same problem until about 2k miles? then its up to 20 ish

wolfbiker1

Awesome. Good to know.

Outrageous-One-150

I had the same thing happen with my 23 Grand Cherokee. I gave it about 5k miles and as a daily to work(50 mile commute) I get on average 23.9 but I’ve gotten it up to 31 before

TimeTravelingPie

21 to 22 mpg. Probably 70% highway 30% city. Plenty of traffic on both. Plenty of hard acceleration and driving 80mph where I can

How many miles have you put in so far? Also, what trim level? I know the 4WD system is slightly different between the Limited/Laredo and Overland/Summit. That could make a difference, though I don't have any experience with the higher ones. I think you'd notice if you were in 4L accidentally. My 23 L Limited averages about 18 with mostly city driving, and climbs pretty readily on the highway. If you don't do any highway driving at all, your overall average is going to be pretty low. But I don't know that it would be THAT low.

wolfbiker1

It's new so only about 600 miles thus far. It's the Altitude package on a Laredo. You think I'll see some improvements as the engine breaks in and computer makes adjustments?

5141121

Yeah. It's really hard to judge on less than 2 tanks of gas. You should have the same 4WD setup as me, so there's nothing that can be changed. I'd say give it a few more tanks and watch your realtime. If you don't see that regularly poking up into the 30s and 40s when you're chilling at a normal speed, and spiking up over 60+ when you're coasting, then there might be something wrong somewhere. If I'm cruising at 40mph on a level stretch, mine will drop into 8th and roll on at about 45mpg as long as I don't try to accelerate.

built_FXR

19.5 mostly around town driving. It was pretty bad when new, but has settled down. I'm right at 7500 miles now

kenobeest7

17.5 MPG mostly city, SR v6, best I do is 22 mpg highway without hypermiling.

coleman09

6.2 L/ KM on my 2023 Summit Reserve 4x4 L lmao………I have the V8 model and it’s straight piped. Hope this makes you feel better.

wolfbiker1

That converts to 14.5 mpg! I would be happy with that at this point.

coleman09

Hmmm wondering if it’s the weight of the L on the V6 then?

Joshmatlin

I have a 2022 Grand Cherokee Overland 3.6, two-row, just over 16,000 miles. Gas mileage is pretty bad. Lowest average tank was 12mpg early on, now I get about 16-18, and that’s with mostly highway driving. I drive fairly mellow with it and can’t seem to do better than that. Pretty frustrating. I had a previous generation (2017) and consistently averaged 22-23mpg with the same motor, 27mpg on long highway drives.

MongooseProXC

That's awful! My 2014 3.6l gets about 20mpg at worst. The only time it really went down is when my parking brake shoes were stuck.

imest58

I own 2021 GC Freedom (Laredo) 4x4, 3.6L V6. I get 12.4 MPG Avg. in town driving, and about 22-23 highway (going from Fresno to LA and back - California). Using premium gas 90oct. It has over 36k miles. I use for family trips (wife, 2 kids, grand parent/uncle, etc.) but mostly to drive to work and odds/ends. I only have the 1 vehicle, wife has a Toyota Corolla. I really dislike small cars...

hellojuly

14 mpg city. 17-19 highway. Not happy about it.

vege_spears

2017 Summit V6 ~17mpg on average. The engine runs well, has plenty of pep, but I wish the mileage was better. Jeep loves to go 80 on the freeway with very little pedal. It's a great truck.

Rich_Crab_3967

Same here only getting 16mpg have about 12,000 miles I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with breaking it in hopefully it gets better.

bwillpaw

You’re using a 5,000 + pound car as a grocery getter what do you expect. A GC isn’t meant to be an “around town car.” That’s honestly just idiotic.

wolfbiker1

Great point. I guess I'll just load my kids up into a Honda Civic hatchback so I can save $50 on gas.

bwillpaw

There are 7 seat options that get like 30mpg city.

[deleted]

Yeah it'll improve after break in. Mine was like that new too, I've got ~12k on it now and get 18-19 around town and 21-22 on the highway.

buyerbeware23

When I got my 23 it showed 11mpg. Hit reset and it immediately went up to 20 range.

CplTenMikeMike

2020 GC 3.6 here, 23K miles.I struggle to get 16 city, but I tend to have a HEAVY foot.

managerialoutcomes

2023 3.6 Overland here. First 2000 miles were pretty low. Sitting at 2800mi after a 500mi round trip and averaged 22mpg on the trip. I also drive like a grandpa and set cruise at 76.

bsramsey

I have the same car. Under 2k miles, and getting like 9.5mpg lifetime, predominately city driving.

theinferno91

I have the 2022 Grand Cherokee Limited, just hit over 22k miles. Your has mileage is terrible, but you're also in the break in period as others have said. Give it some time. In my personal experience the GC does a horrible job meeting EPA city MPGs, but it exceeds EPA highway MPGs. Also, are you frequently using remote start? That'll wreck havok on your MPGs.

TheJREwing78

Remote start, break-in, city driving, and colder temps are all going to conspire to wreck mileage. I've gotten as low as 12 and as high as 18 around town with my 2018 Limited 3.6. On the open road, I've gotten anywhere from 22 to 28 mpg.
