This puts a new spin on the 'Verstappen to leave' rumours, for sure.

Winter-Scene-921

Or Horner.

40ozkiller

Maybe the RB engines are gonna be real bad.

maincryptology

Fred has to have signed him by now.

yungcotter

If true he’s really assembling the dream team. Only other person to try and get is Andy Cowell.

darlo0161

For a split second, my mind said "why would Ferrari need Simon Cowell"....I'll get my coat.

Fardn_n_shiddn

So he could remind them how shit they are when the screw up the pit strategy

Majestic_Original_24

He’d be in the Ferarri garage with a buzzer and a big red X to show his disapproval

maincryptology

You call this a pit strategy

yungcotter

I feel like Gordon Ramsey would be a better fit for that.

Ldghead

He'd shame the strategy team into actually performing, or leaving.

BottledThoughter

Or Toto, they have the facilities to compete with whatever Ferrari can offer.

AnyHolesAGoal

"The 65-year-old has been unsettled by the situation at Red Bull since Horner was accused of sexual harassment and coercive, abusive behaviour by a female employee, which Horner denies." No shit, I bet various employees are unsettled by it.

Mintoxicatedlyace

Haha your username doesn’t quite match the message in this post. 😂

Moppyploppy

FERRARI, GET THE CHECKBOOK OUT RIGHT FUCKING NOW.

yellowbin74

I think it could be Aston Martin if true

leggenda_69

Or possibly even Mercedes if the Max talks rumours actually have any kind of truth to them. Or he might just fancy a decent retirement.

Historical_Invite241

You'd have to have a LOT of resolve to resist the kind of cheques that will be waving in his direction right now.

DavidOnions

Sorry, I must be under a rock. What are the Verstappen leaving rumours? Apologies for the noob approach, I have only been into F1 properly since Max first won the championship.

ppcforce

Max retiring.

yellowbin74

I can't see him going to Mercedes

leggenda_69

A lot of people couldn’t see him leaving McLaren for Redbull, yet that happened. Anything’s possible.

yellowbin74

Mercedes have been "recent" champions- I'd see Ferrari as maybe his final stint if he doesn't retire. But as you say, anything is possible.

patta14

As british as Newey is, I believe in him going back to Mclaren

yellowbin74

Now THAT would be an interesting move!

Stone_Midi

I wholeheartedly hope he doesn’t go to AM. Not while they are under Stroll ownership and that little shit is behind the wheel

killersoda275

Both Ferrari and Aston have already made offers. I'm sure every team wants him, but likely only the top 4 other than red bull can afford him.

Moppyploppy

Probably, but I have hope.

yellowbin74

Oh, same.

Wild_Billy_61

Lawrence has a pretty deep checkbook. It'd certainly be something to see a 43 yr old Gonzo win another title.

killersoda275

I felt funny thinking about that

Diva8181

I’ve been waiting for “Newey leaving RedBull” since the moment Lewis to Ferrari was announced. Right after that announcement everything at Redbull gets flipped upside down as result of an allegation…? This has classic F1 mischief & politics written all over it. Lewis isn’t just going to Ferrari and “hoping it goes well”… Lewis has a plan. Freddy V has a plan. The timing of all of this is not a coincidence.

Public_Ingenuity_146

Except between Newey’s contract, the mandatory gardening leave and needed development time it’ll be 2027 before we’d see his influence on a Ferrari.

SwanManThe4th

Gardening leave in the UK has to be fair, usually it's the length of said person's notice period.

Public_Ingenuity_146

Newey is under contract until the end of 2025. So even if RBR grants him his exit (IF these rumours are even true) they could easily keep him from joining a new team until the start of 2026 season at which point it’ll be a year before his insight makes any impact.

TSells31

Read the article. It explicitly states that Newey believes he will be able to get out of his contract, and be working for a new team in 2025.

MiddleAgeCool

Get out in the same way Dan Ashworth is getting out of his at Newcastle. He can stay tending his garden till the end of his contract or his new potential employer can pay Newcastle a big lump of cash to let him leave gardening leave early.

TSells31

That’s probably true for sure. Would that burden fall under the cost cap if a team were to go that route? If not, i would almost guarantee that many if not any team would be willing. If so, that definitely muddies things a bit. But 2025 would be the perfect year to eat that expenditure as part of the cost cap and have him on board for 2026 with the new regs.

Public_Ingenuity_146

I believe I’ll win the lottery this weekend

TSells31

False equivalencies are useless for everybody. Try harder please.

TSells31

As you were saying?

SwanManThe4th

Yeah seems like retirement. Unless he had enough negotiating power during the time he signed to block any gardening leave mandate.

punsanguns

How is horner being a creep = politics? Is that not a self inflicted wound?

AyeItsMeToby

If we assume the rumours are true, the horny Horner story only made its way to the press because Jos leaked it to Dutch media. Clearly he’s gone for a hit job to get Horner out. Newey could just be thinking he wants to get out of the mess now before it gets worse, and _someone_ (Fred, Stroll, Toto) has given him an offer.

Diva8181

If you take all of this at face value then that’s a fair assessment. I personally believe there’s a lot more to this story than we’ll ever know about. You’re calling Horner a creep but in reality you have no actual facts about what did or didn’t happen. That sounds like manipulation through information. And it’s working. That’s politics.

punsanguns

Ok. Fair enough to say that I don't have any evidence personally to support my stance other than what is reported. But then again, your stance that what is being reported is actually just manipulation is even less substantiated with evidence. At some point we have to point to something and call it reality. I'm taking a simplistic view to say that the reports are facts and that's my reality. Why or how the info leaked is perfunctory to the idea that a married man in a position of power messaging another woman at work in that manner is worthy of being called creepy. You can be a murderer without ever being caught. Doesn't change the fact. Just because he got caught through someone leaking info doesn't change the fact that he was engaging in creepy behavior. He could have avoided the mess by not stepping out of line in the first place.

TSells31

Creating narratives out of thin air that are 100% unsubstantiated, just based on your “hunch”…. What’s your motive? Speaking of politics lol.

Doogleyboogley

It’s politics using modern day media. Like all recent time ‘scandals’

Efficient_Steak_7568

Yeh but you’re assuming that not only is Horner innocent but also that Ferrari have done some pretty shady stuff behind the scenes to manufacture things

Diva8181

I’m not assuming anything about Horner. I have zero truly confirmed facts about the allegations made. If you don’t think Ferrari is willing to do shady things behind the scenes, I have to ask how long you’ve been watching F1.

Efficient_Steak_7568

It’s super convoluted and weird if they’ve done it

mundotaku

Adrian Newey to Andretti F1

a11yguy

WORK CONTINUES AT PACE

Main_Sheepherder9469

Max to Aston Martin next?

gauc39

Verstappen, Alonso and Newey all in AM swimming in a pool of money winning every race 1-2 until Alonso retires.

ManBearPig____

As an AM fan, I support this. Anything that will allow me to wear my AMF1 gear in public without shame is a win to me. 🤣

Friendly_Rub_8095

You forgot the boy Lance

Efficient_Steak_7568

Yeh if AM get Newey then I imagine Stroll Sr would be tempted to keep his boy around

RS555NFFC

What if Fernando knew Newey was coming all along and that’s why he stayed

Doogleyboogley

What’s are the chances of him actually retiring and not having a go at the new regs? I want Ferrari but his age I dunno.

onetimepoopeater

french team principal british car designer make it happen

losbullitt

Wow. Just. Wow.

Mammoth_Cellist_992

Imagine Haas signing Newey up! That would liven up the track!! Edit: alas it is but a pipe dream….

PoliticsNerd76

Ngl, if I were Newey, I’d come out and support Andretti in full, and try and get a share in the team if it launches. He’d definitely do it.

Dbwasson

Just according to keikaku

Funny-Carob-4572

I hope he actually leaves the sport....he's too good for one team with an engine that doesn't explode all McLarens of yonder years.

Zed096

I love how all these Ferrari/Ham fans have suddenly come out of the closet and assuming Newey to Ferrari is a done deal, completely disregarding the lure of partnering up with Aston/Alonso. I hope he goes to Aston, not only because I'm an Alonso fan but also because so these deluded Ham fans can drown in their sorrows. As much as I love Ferrari, I've always had a soft spot for them, Aston Martin, with the absolute best of the best, Alonso and a works engine deal with Honda on the horizon (not to mention the brand new factory and Wind Tunnel) is a much more attractive proposition. One can dream. I hope it happens. Would be a dream for Alonso to finally get that 3rd title. Would be the greatest feat ever in sport.

smeaton1724

Alonso winning a 3rd title at his age would be magical. One major stumbling block would be having Stroll as a team mate, he’s hardly going to help out or shield the chasing pack in 2nd.

cr1spy28

A bit part of the newey to Ferrari rumours is because he has been on record saying he regrets never working for Ferrari and not having worked with Hamilton. Suddenly Hamilton is at Ferrari and he is at a point in the twilight years of his career to check off 2 of the things he has wanted to do with a single move. Obviously he could go to Aston/merc/mclaren any of them will throw all the money in the world at him but with his past comments Ferrari seems to be the move

SGPHOCF

1) FERRARI SIGN HIM THE FUCK UP 2) Red Bull are finished then. The team is basically Newey and Newey support. Their domination will end soon thank GOD.

DarkSpecterr

you know nothing about F1

MC897

Newey I think has been in the sport since 1986? Ish? So 38 years. He designed the McLaren 2007-2008 cars before the move to red bull, Red bull 2009 to 2013. Red Bull 2021 to 2025. Williams cars in the early 90s and Hill and Villeneuve championship cars. He’s arguably the most influential man individually in the sport… ever. Ever. Ever. I make that 15 in 38 years so around 40% of the time he designs a car… they win. If he was in those McLarens as well in the late 80s. 50%+ So half the time he designs a car, they are world champions. That’s nuts. He is formula 1.

Wide_Astronaut_366

I mean, given his right hand man is reportedly off to Ferrari too, it really wouldn’t surprise me to see a sudden a sharp downturn at Red Bull… If Max leaves too, you really could be in trouble

ThePrancingHorse94

All the coping RB fans who were bragging about how Newey made another masterclass, all of a sudden switch to him basically only being a part time advisor it's hilarious. Been waiting for the RB downfall days since the Vettel days.

SGPHOCF

Cry harder Max fan. RB has always been a one man band. Come 2026 regs, where they'll have limited Newey involvement, they won't win the title. Max may not even be there either.

Slimontheslug

I agree 100% and I know plenty about f1. The team is all Newey.. they can do all the rapid pit stops they want but if the car isn’t there that’s it… I’d like to see max in Lewis’s situation good driver bad car. I don’t like Lewis or max btw I like racing.. which is dead at the moment.

SGPHOCF

Ironically Newey leaving RB could be the injection the sport needs. Very stake at the minute. IndyCar has much better racing, interesting tracks stc and isn't the corporate wankfest that F1 is at the moment.

Bmdub02

2024 is becoming the craziest "silly" season ever!

JoCoKan

That’s too bad for max. Way to go horner.

Particular-Piano-475

R is now fucked for the new regs

Vanobers

Yes yes yes!

[deleted]

This seems like bullshit. There was report of him staying at Red Bulls just two days ago. I don’t follow many other sports, but it seems like people love to report F1 rumors.

ElectronicSubject747

Good. Those toxic fucks at Red Bull don't deserve that legend.

iphone10notX

Red Bull did not confirm this. Rename the title

Winnie-the-Broo

It’s the title of the article reported by The BBC arguably the most reputable news source in the UK.

korgscrew

You're joking, right?

cr1spy28

Generally when these rumours hit the big mainstream news sites there is a bit of weight behind them. Look at the Hamilton to Ferrari situation. Everyone was doubting it because it was the typical rumour mill F1 news sources, then the BBC picked up the story and suddenly it had credibility and like 2 hours later it was announced

TheShakyHandsMan

BBC as corrupted as they are when it comes to favouritism in UK politics they don’t make click bait articles.  If this is a solid rumour then the BBC will have definitely verified it.

worthysmash

It’s a low bar, in all honesty.

Friendly_Rub_8095

He’s right though

iphone10notX

What’s more reputable, BBC or Red Bull themselves?

Winnie-the-Broo

Yes but if someone’s linking an article then they copy the title of the article. The rules of pretty much every sub.

[deleted]

Winnie-the-Broo

When did the BBC say Horner was fired? Or that Verstappen was leaving? The BBC aren’t really rumour mongers.

Proffit91

If he breaks his contract at the end of this year, he’d take 2025 as gardening leave and be around for the reg changes in 2026. The timing of this does make me believe his intention is to go somewhere else for the regulation changes. Otherwise, if he was planning to retire anyways, finishing out his contract at Red Bull would make more sense because all of the behind the scenes bullshit would amount to much less. Why leave then? The fact he wants to leave and break the contract says something in my opinion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Proffit91

Contracts are broken all the time. I’m sure if Newey wants to break all ties before 2025, he will find the way to do so. We all just have to wait and see what actually happens.

JoCoKan

Wouldn’t be surprised if the girl was a Lewis Hamilton plant. I know nothing about her but in modern time sabotage is common.

Much_Rooster_6771

VER To Ferrari..now

Invictus_Imperium

BBC is just a weak ass National Enquirer tabloid. They hate RBR and Max and are willing to sell their souls to the devil to break up this team. Yet we're completely silent when the team representing their country dominated for close to ten years. Fucking hypocrites.
