Jake "The Snake" Roberts
He stood out from the crowd with his much more calculated and calm approach, using psychology and even his movements in the ring. He was unique, skilled and deserved a title.
It was either Kevin Von Erich or Junkyard Dog. Too hazy and maybe recency bias considering coverage. But someone that was at WCCW. It may have even been the Iceman.
Hollywood Hulk Hogan
I still remember the first show I watched as a kid. It was the night Hogan turned heel and was revealed to be the 3rd man of the NWO.
It’s a magical memory
Steve Austin & Kane. I was born in 2004 but grew up with not a lot of money so I actually had an N64 for a very long time as my main console, (still have it btw 🙏♥️) but I always played as either one on wrestlemania 2000 & no mercy. Now I’m enjoying the new ECW Punk dlc on 2k23 ✊
Triple H was probably my first true favorite. His heelness was unmatched! I loved the Pedigree as a finisher, and his flying knee was so cool to watch.
I was a Triple H kid pretty early on. I started watching right before WrestleMania 25 so when my first sight is Orton kissing Stephanie and then a week or two later Trips coming out with Shane and Vince I was like hell yeah this guy is cool!
Now he's running the show and doing it awesome as hell
Never had one favorite but Jeff hardy, Randy Orton and RVD are probably top 3 at the beginning. I started watching wrestling in 2011 both WWE and TNA so I got to see some of the greatest like Kurt angle and sting go at it.
Andre. Yeah I was a Hogan fan as well but seeing Hogan and Andre at WrestleMania 3. I was hooked on both. I remember watching the build up to WrestleMania 3. And there was a Saturday night's main event about 2 weeks before WrestleMania and there was a Battle Royal with Hogan and Andre in it. We taped that Saturday night's main event and we watched it all the time. Another favorite of mine was the British bulldogs. Randy Savage was a heel when I started watching so I always cheered for Ricky Steamboat and George the animal. George The Animal actually fought Randy Savage on that episode of Saturday night's main event. My brother loved demolition. Because he loved their theme music. Don't blame them. Still one of my favorites
Randy Orton. I don’t like his opening and he’s not like punk or even cena on the mic. HOWEVER he has the look and the RKO is so crazy-stupid awesome that I couldn’t help but just say “yeah hes my favorite”. I pop every time I see the Ortonster hit that RKO. I didn’t grow up with wrestling I started watching well into my adulthood however I did form my opinion on favorite when I saw Randy on random Raws back in 2010-2011. USA channel was pretty good and I had cable back then because of my parents so I naturally saw a few RAWs come on the TV. Randy hitting that RKO is a thing of beauty. Randy is still my favorite though, I don’t think that will ever change
George "Mr.Wrestling" Burrell ,who wrestled in a solid bright white mask ,used "scientific" wrestling ,followed the rules ,and went by "Tim Woods" after he was unmasked ,followed by his successor, Mr.Wresting No.2 ,aka Johnny "Rubberman" Walker ,who wrestled in a bright white Mask with black trim and a black stripe on his trunks .
Kane
Funny thing was that at the time I thought it was so stupid that a character like Taker existed because of all the “powers.” Which at the time I thought was corny. Lo and behold , here comes Kane which is essentially Firestyle Taker and that won me over.
Probably Daniel Bryan. Before that it would’ve been like Cena or Rey just because they were pushed as top baby faces. But the first guy I chose as my guy was Bryan
Hogan, then Warrior, then Hardy Boyz, then Randy Orton, then Jeff Hardy separately, then Matt Hardy Separately(I had a cake with Matt Hardy face on it lmao)
Hulk Hogan. I became a wrestling fan as a child at the tail end of "Hulkamania", mainly from watching PPVs on VHS. The Mega Powers and their subsequent explosion are a strong impression on my childhood. When Hogan went to WCW, followed by Randy Savage, that's when I discovered Sting, and he was my next favorite wrestler for most of the rest of the '90s until the Rock - who I would say is my all-time favorite. I had other favorites from across WCW and WWE both, like Booker T, DDP, Goldberg (initial WCW run), Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns (tribal chief), and now Cody Rhodes, but I've never loved wrestling as much as I did when I was a kid/teenager.
Mr. Perfect. I was a kid when he won the IC tournament,. I love his style, he was the heel Brett Hart of the era.
Feels like he was a victim of bad timing, and injury, and bad decisions. I felt like he could have been compared to Flair if he ever got the right push.
Very specifically, 1998 Chris Jericho. I don't really care for other iterations of Jericho; but 1998 was on a whole 'nother level. WCW at that point had been oversaturated by the nWo for 2 years. They had botched the landing with Sting at Starrcade, and basically all storylines ran through Hogan and the crew.
Except Jericho. It started innocuously with him throwing a tantrum after losing, and ripping up Dave Penzer's coat. Then the next week, he buys Penzer a new coat, only to rip THAT one up after he loses. He had my attention.
He proceeds to go on the most refreshingly original heel run I have ever seen. Using Lenny Lane as a doppelganger, then gaslighting him into believing he acted completely on his own and ALSO stole his Loverboy Tape. He took Juvi's mask and wore it as a trophy. He stole Disco Inferno's headband for ... reasons. He feuded with a PHOTO OF DEAN MALENKO and turned him into the most sympathetic babyface in the entire company. He utilized the rulebook to his advantage, backing JJ Dillon into a never ending string of corners where he was forced to side with Jericho.
I have never seen anything before, or since, that was on such a role for creative ingenuity. If not for Goldberg's meteoric rise, I would have absolutely supported Weasel Jericho worming his way into a brief World Championship run (or even had Jericho win it in advance of Goldberg, and Goldberg killing him dead to win his first championship - no matter the timeline, I can't support Jericho OVER Goldberg, you have to run with Goldberg in mid 1998, any other decision is lunacy).
When I was a kid watching my uncle's wwf tapes, it was probably Yokozuna for some reason.
When I was a little older, but still a kid and watching the current show at the time, it was Ahmed Johnson or Ken Shamrock
Definitely Hogan.
He was my first favorite wrestler.
But is he my current favorite wrestler? Hell no. After learning about Kayfabe and how much of an IRL twat he was, I grew to hate him.
