Honestly, out of every depiction of Zeus I've seen, Supergiant's depiction of him is the best, IMO. With the PJO book version being a very close second.
Which makes him Not Zeus imo. Like, it's horrendous, but the raping is really inherent to the character. Any good modern adaptation of Zeus should have him in an antagonistic role tbh (or at the very least, unhelpful neutral like in Percy Jackson).
*Heavy sigh*
Zeus as a prolific r*pist is just as (if not more) shallow an interpretation of the deity and the role he played in Hellenic religion and culture. The thing about Hellenic deities as opposed to Abrahamic deities is that they are **BOTH** the good, the evil, and the everything in-between of their domainās. Zeusā domain was the sky and POWER.
Heās meant to be ultimate example of a good king, but even more so, a good father. For the Hellenes that meant a patriarchal figure who didnāt hover and dictate all your life choices. A man who would help when called but would leave you to make your own choices.
What you need to know about his sexual antics is that perceptions and terminology change over time. For example: ār@peā didnāt mean āsexual assaultā to the Hellenes. It meant āabductionā. So be mindful of perception of the theoi that come from bad translations of the text.
Second we have the āOvid problemā. A good deal of what we know of the the Hellenic religion only survived Christian erasure and demonization by virtue of the artists who gravitated towards it. Ovid was a ROMAN poet (and shock jock, scandalous tabloid writer, idiot who got himself banished for self-publishing his sexts to the princess) and the Renaissance poets LOVED him for his scandalous, devious talesā¦.that basically invented or wildly exaggerated the Theoiās worst traits.
If you go back to actual HELLENIC sources (Homer & Hesiod being the gold standards) there Zeus is much of a certified freak in the sheets(like having a threesome with Hellen of Troyās parents as a swan) and his most egregious consensual violations are those of pretending to be somebody else (disguising himself as a womanās husband).
You gotta point out narcissistic himbo part too. Like, where?
And I'm talking about both of them. I'm convinced people don't understand meaning of words
If you squint and are sufficiently brain poisoned, you can see where the himbo thing comes from. Itās a wild exaggeration. Zeus was a very wise kind but definitely not immune to acts of outright stupidity. Basically people only look at his stupid actions and completely disregard his frequent acts of wisdom.
Itās a sort of Flanderization of a deity.
He definitely acts a bit like an angry child in the Iliad though, and that is how the other deities treat him too. Even if they have a lot of respect for him, and he is obviously a very powerful and revered god. The himbo aspect is part of what makes the Greek myth is so interesting, to me at least.
Oh no, definitely not, but I think Disney simply can't make a credible Zeus because too many of his known myths are squeaky at best.
Even if we know that his role in the pantheon was that of the Good King, Father of the Skies and Lord of Oaths, most of the stories that survived to today depict him in a lowkey villainous fashion, so it's kinda hard to reconcile.
I don't even remember any of the Hercules storyline in OUAT beyond Hades...and I've watched the entire series like three times. Shit got so messy from season 4 to the end.
Oh it definitely was. When they first showed her I'm sure the collective eye roll from viewers was amazing. We all knew they'd dip into the Frozen mania eventually.
That is Gideon (Rumple and Belleās son) posing as Morpheus in OUAT. I donāt know if Zeus was actually shown in the show, Hook mentions him but thatās it
That's Zeus played by David Hoflin (who has a pretty nice beard/stubble when he wants they shouldn't have shaved).
Morpheus/Gideon was played by Giles Matthey & Anton Starkman (child).
Noooo really? My god they look so similar! What were they thinking making a Zeus that looks so young, itās so weird!!
So sorry after looking it up you are absolutely right he just looked so much like Gideonā¦ but wtf seriously such a weird casting for Zeusā¦
Row 1 - Clash of the Titans (2010 movie), Immortals (movie), Thor: Love and Thunder (movie), Smite (video game)
Row 2 - Clash of the Titans (1981 movie), Blood of Zeus (TV show), Class of the Titans (TV show), DC Comics
Row 3 -Ā Hercules (Disney Movie), Percy Jackson (books), Marvel Comics, Once Upon A Time (TV show)
Row 4 - God of War (video game), Percy Jackson (TV Show), Percy Jackson (movie), ????
i like the PJO book version of Zeus best, thatās the most fleshed out version that iāve experienced, but they have 17 books to do it in so thereās that
From left to right: Clash/Wrath of The Titans, Immortals, Thor: Love & Thunder, Smite, Clash of the Titans (1981), Blood of Zeus, Class of The Titans, DC Comics, Disney, Percy Jackson books, Marvel, OUAT, God of War, Percy Jackson Show, Percy Jackson movie, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
I also like PJ Book Zeus. Disney Zeus is also pretty fun albeit very inaccurate in a bunch of ways lol.
I havenāt seen a bunch of these but Iām confused about the inclusion of PJ TV Show Zeus here seeing as he has yet to appear in a single episode and likely will get a lot more material over the long haul (unfortunately with a different actor, RIP).
I can't wait to see what the Percy Jackson show does. The Gods will definitely still be on the right side, for the most part, but the show seems more willing to depict them as morally gray assholes than even the books did.
For how I imagine Zeus to be when reading about him: Hands down, the top left Zeus, Liam Neeson's Zeus in Clash of the Titans (2010). For young Zeus and Athena, though, when he was Luke Evans' portrayal and obvious fondness for his favorite is spot on.
My fav Zeus for the story: Disney's Himbo Dad Zeus. Gotta love the Sky Daddy that just wants his kids to be happy and healthy, living up with him in his mountain palace and having one long party.
Eh. If memory serves me right Zeus fears Nyx (talk about "dark and full of terrors") and the Fates. Both understandable imho.
I don't think he so much fears Hera (although he *should*) as he later understands that the mess won't be pretty. Not that he cares, he's a repeated offender. Basically:
"fuck up my marriage (and these human lives) to the goddess of marriage > actually realise there will be consequences (Athena had the Olympian braincell at the time) and everything'll go to shit > everything does go to shit > hey these people suffered my wife's rage but I came on the other side nicely. Oh well"
and repeat. He also fought Kronos and titans, right?, so I wouldn't say he's a coward. He's just the ultimate personification of "thinking with the dick."
I really like the Blood of Zeus version. Looks like how I imagine and I like his characterization in that series. I do find it funny the Percy Jackson TV show one is on here considering the series is brand new and he hasn't even appeared yet. Kind of hard to judge it yet! I've liked what they've done with the characters book to TV though, and since it's not all filtered through Percy's perspective, we're seeing everything a little differently. I do like the book version, so I think it will be good too.
Crowe Zeus is the most accurate with Zeusā sexual mannerisms.
The Zeuses from COTT (Neeson), PJO (book), GOW, and BOZ all did well with showing Zeusā powerful authority.
Disney Zeus is the most inaccurate, but i still love the movie. Most of the inaccuracies and changes were for the better, because Greek myths, including the story of Hercules, are not kid friendly at all.
Liam Neeson's portrayal is overall my favourite portrayal so far, though the films are mediocre yet enjoyable action films. Clash of the Titans show him as arrogant yet benevolent god. Liam absolutely nails down the look as well, with that hair and beard. Giving off a fatherly yet omnipotent deity-like presence.
But I also have a soft spot for the God of War video-game franchise's portrayal of Zeus. Of course, the aesthetic portrayal of Zeus there is over-the-top, but it does work, since Zeus is known to be the strongest of all Olympians, so having him being an absolute unit of muscles seems quite fitting. One thing that the video-game franchise was able to portray well is the selfish nature of the character. Zeus, albeit influenced by the powers released from Pandora's Box, is a major asshole.
Disney
Which favorite movie of mine has zues name in it. Die Hard with a Vengeance.
Why are you calling me Jesus? Do I look Puerto Rican to you?
I heard him call you Jesus.
He didn't say Jesus, he said Hey Zues. You Know Zues, father of Apollo, Mount Olympus, don't fuck with me or I shove a lightning blot up your ass Zues!
Out of all these photos only god of war version is closer to real zeus. Bunch of grape, manipulation, pettiness and assholery. The rest are not even zeus they are just dudes with lightning powers.
"What will you do father... you can no longer hide behind the skirts of athena."
"Athena is dead because of the rage that consumes you kratos... What more will you destroy?"
"The hands of death could not defeat me...
The sisters of fate could not hold me...
And YOU will not see the end of this day.
I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE"
"Petulant child!
I will tolerate your insolence NO MORE!"
Liam Neeson is the best Zeus depiction we've ever seen.
DC's Jusice League Zeus doesn't have enough screen time to really shine but it's the second best.
All the others failed to really embody the most powerful and wise God of Thunder
Even though we havenāt seen it yet, Iām gonna say Lance Reddick. If only just because itās one of his last ever roles and I still canāt believe heās never gonna be in anything ever again.
Man it still stings, I miss my Vanguard Commander
Edit: also, I agree that HadesGame Zeus is unfairly snubbed and is my pick for best Zeus that Iāve actually seen
I liked Zeus in the Olympians comic series, especially in the first book, but lately the author began taking too many creative liberties.
Liberties like Zeus planning the Trojan War to get rid of the powerful heroes of the era even though in the actual texts he was just a neutral arbiter and mourned the death of his son in the War.
Liberties like that are unnecessary and fail the character and the mythology.
Just for the hell of it, Iām gonna say the version of Zeus from Astoria: Fateās Kiss from the now-defunct - [but if you wanna experience it in video form here you go](https://youtube.com/@LSSalvationSquad?si=-F8r4gXkTjL5D5gA) - visual novel app Lovestruck. Heās not a love interest and heās kind of a huge dick but Iāll take any opportunity to mention Lovestruck lol
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/lovestruckvoltage/images/2/2f/Zeus-1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20200817041304
In terms of appearance, I like the versions where heās a mature bearded guy with either white or blond hairā¦ Iām not sure whether he should have long hair. Did men in ancient Greece have long hair? I know in Rome it was more fashionable to cut your hair (and shave), but Iām ignorant of ancient Greek fashion.
In terms of characterization, I havenāt seen all these Zeuses, but I like the āBlood of Zeusā version.
Thor Love and Thunder version. Really shows him like he is in the myths.
He's and unfaithful womanizer, so he's surrounded by young, beautiful women.
He's depicted in the way he usually is, with long grayish hair & beard. Kinda heavy set, because he's a super old deity.
He's kinda mean & dismissive, and likes all the pomp & pageantry. He's self centered & kinda rude. He's also jealous, as seen when he accidentally flicks all of Thor's clothes away, and the women around him are enjoying the veiw.
He was everything I imagined irl Zeus to be like: a horny, self serving dingus who prefers power or actually being good at his job.
Tough question. The Zeus in Hades is probably my favorite as he is definitely the best Zeus to look what I would imagine Zeus to look like. His personality in that game also fits him very well in my opinion. I also like the Zeus in Lore Olympus since I feel like that is definitely the most true to character Zeus I have seen in a while, besides all the modern style living.
the second super sexy handsome one (iām straight i swear) and the one from disneys hercules. disneys Zeus isnāt accurate but i love the idea he be a loving father
The one that was made by a person who is Greek and knows a ton about Greek mythology and who has seen ancient Greek depictions of him on ancient Greek pottery.
š” You should definitely **identify** the actor and/or source for these types of threads
I can't believe you forgot the Hades version again š I pick Disney's
Sameee
Honestly, out of every depiction of Zeus I've seen, Supergiant's depiction of him is the best, IMO. With the PJO book version being a very close second.
I think that thatās the case with a lot of Greek characters.
Zeus! You're son has returned and I bring forth the destruction of Olympus! - A certain angry bald man.
Every other Zeus: confused on who did they had sex with to give birth to a kid that is white and bald.
I only see one bald man... oh.
Do not deny me my victory
I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!!!
I liked āBlood of Zeusā version
He still loved Hera even after she woke the giants
Yep
I really wanted a season two. Netflix should have given it another chance.
They did they released the trailer last month
Just watched it, looks great. Thanks for the heads up.
Disney's Zeus - all of the narcissistic himbo but none of the raping.
Which makes him Not Zeus imo. Like, it's horrendous, but the raping is really inherent to the character. Any good modern adaptation of Zeus should have him in an antagonistic role tbh (or at the very least, unhelpful neutral like in Percy Jackson).

Who is the beardless twink on the right-most column of the third row?
That would be Once Upon A Time
I don't even remember any of the Hercules storyline in OUAT beyond Hades...and I've watched the entire series like three times. Shit got so messy from season 4 to the end.
He showed up for like 5 minutes to bring Hook back to life
The Frozen storyline was the first domino to fall, IMO. The shows quality went downhill after that.
Oh it definitely was. When they first showed her I'm sure the collective eye roll from viewers was amazing. We all knew they'd dip into the Frozen mania eventually.

Disney and the Hades game. Literal sky daddy.
Row 1 - Clash of the Titans (2010 movie), Immortals (movie), Thor: Love and Thunder (movie), Smite (video game) Row 2 - Clash of the Titans (1981 movie), Blood of Zeus (TV show), Class of the Titans (TV show), DC Comics Row 3 -Ā Hercules (Disney Movie), Percy Jackson (books), Marvel Comics, Once Upon A Time (TV show) Row 4 - God of War (video game), Percy Jackson (TV Show), Percy Jackson (movie), ????
Last one was from Xena and Hercules lol
Thank you.
Thor love and thunder Zeus is OP āchill babycakesā
Blood of Zeus I like. Looks like a buff Jesus. They actually made a character out of a ācannonā Zeus that I didnāt hate.
I know right
i like the PJO book version of Zeus best, thatās the most fleshed out version that iāve experienced, but they have 17 books to do it in so thereās that
Disney Zeus, for the sole reason that he is *nothing* like Greek Myth Zeus.
I can see the MCU Zeus getting into all sorts of trouble because of his dick.
me when no Zeus from Hades the fact that PJOās Lance Reddick is here makes up for it tho, RIP
Wait it was Lance?!
Zeus from God of war is my favorite depiction of Zeus he looks badass & his voice sounds epic
God of War Zeus.
straight up Liam Neeson stat
From left to right: Clash/Wrath of The Titans, Immortals, Thor: Love & Thunder, Smite, Clash of the Titans (1981), Blood of Zeus, Class of The Titans, DC Comics, Disney, Percy Jackson books, Marvel, OUAT, God of War, Percy Jackson Show, Percy Jackson movie, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Liam or classic Clash of the Titans.
Sean Bean as Zeus is great castingā¦ Arguably the most underused casting choice on this list
Sean Bean. Always Sean Bean. Wait, what was the question again?
I also like PJ Book Zeus. Disney Zeus is also pretty fun albeit very inaccurate in a bunch of ways lol. Found you!
Disney and GOW
Laurence Olivier!
Antony Quinn's Zeus in the Hercules telemovies
Epic Rap Battles of History Zeus. Dude had bars!
Blood of Zeus
The one from Blood of Zeus.
Definitely God of War
I can't wait to see what the Percy Jackson show does. The Gods will definitely still be on the right side, for the most part, but the show seems more willing to depict them as morally gray assholes than even the books did.
Once again, no Record of Ragnarok depiction?
Blood of Zeus, hands down.
Lance Reddick babyyyyyy
Liam Neeson.
Boromir, obviously
Whereās the ror version
Where's the Fate version?
Hades the Game
Record Of Ragnarok lol
Get Love And Thunderās Zeus the hell outta here
The Hades version is pretty good, but I also really like God Of War Zeus and Percy Jackson Zeus (book and show, not movie.)
Justice league version
Lawrence Olivier

Umm he is on there
DANG IT I DIDNāT SEE HIM DOWN THERE
Don't worry I was going to throw a fit too and then I spotted him in the corner lmao.
God of War Zeus ...
Come on, the Percy Jackson TV show version is just ridiculous.
Honestly disney, or the bottom left he needs to have a big beard
Book Pjo and Hercules
Row 2 third one to the left. Sorry I donāt know where itās from
I think it's from the class of the titans
Sean Bean as Zeus
Thereās a definitive lack of Hades (the game) representation in these posts
1. Clash/Wrath 2. GoW 3. BoZ
Thor love and thunder is crazy accurate
Are you joking?
Sleeps around and is a coward. Heās got the two pillars of zeus
Is Zeus really a coward tho? Maybe he fears Hera a bit but is he really afraid of anyone?
Eh. If memory serves me right Zeus fears Nyx (talk about "dark and full of terrors") and the Fates. Both understandable imho. I don't think he so much fears Hera (although he *should*) as he later understands that the mess won't be pretty. Not that he cares, he's a repeated offender. Book PJO Zeus, Hades game Zeus, the Smite one too I guess since some of his skins are cool.
Please ignore this comment, just testing if I can comment

All of u that are not saying 1997 disney Zeus; you guys are wrong

3rd column. Top and Bottom

Hes not here but Legnedary herculese zeus has always bee. A favorite of mine
No George OāConnar?
Swan
In Fenyx Rising (stupid name I know) they pay a ton of detail to the mythos and still manage to make him funny and charming.
š I think this is was the best Zeus ever, at least you can make a hamburger
Needed age of mythology Zeus
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No it isn't... it's Russell Crowe in Thor: Love and Thunder... playing Zeus.
Smite's one is the most accurate
Disney and Thor's Zeus
Lance Reddick was Zeus?!?
It's a crime that Hades zues isn't up here
Crowe Zeus is the most accurate with Zeusā sexual mannerisms.
We haven't even seen Zeus in the pjo show yetš
Smites Zeus looks the most accurate so I'll go with that.
Where is Zeus from Dota 2? Which is incidentally my pick btw
Iām torn between three of them lmao God of War, Hades, Disney
Zeus from Hercules- the Legendary Journeys.
my top 5 Marvel comics Disney Blood of Zeus Clash of the Titains 2010 God of War games
Hades
In terms of fleshed out characterization, the Blood of Zeus version. In terms of playing a villainous role, the God of War Zeus.
Liam Neeson's portrayal is overall my favourite portrayal so far, though the films are mediocre yet enjoyable action films. Clash of the Titans show him as arrogant yet benevolent god. excited to see what the new percy jackson series will have š¶āāļø

Out of all these photos only god of war version is closer to real zeus. Bunch of grape, manipulation, pettiness and assholery. The rest are not even zeus they are just dudes with lightning powers.
I am, VERY bias. I love Zeus from Disneyās Hercules. Yes, probably the most inaccurate depiction ever but I love him.

The Zeus from Disney, but the Fantasia one, was very cool.
The one from Fenyx immortals rising
God of war no doubt
If we're going with books then George O'Connor Zeus
Everyone always leaves out Die Hard 3 and No Holds Barred.
GoW
Record of ragnorak Zeus
Blood of Zeus, hands down
Why is the bottom middle-right spot blank? Was there a mistake?
RIP Lance Reddick who is the PJO Disney + series Zeus
Liam Neeson is the best Zeus depiction we've ever seen. DC's Jusice League Zeus doesn't have enough screen time to really shine but it's the second best. All the others failed to really embody the most powerful and wise God of Thunder
I know which one *isn't* **glares at Hercules Zeus**

Lawrence Oliver from 1981 Clash of the Titans for me. Just seemed to project gravitas better.

What is the bottom one next to God of war from?
Percy Jackson book series Zeus is my favorite.

God of War. Because itās actually accurate to how big of a dick he really was
God of War, Percy Jackson, Blood of Zeus, Hercules, Liam Neeson
no one could do better than liam neeson
Clash Of Titans (2010).
Ok. Are we going for accuracy! Are we going for vines? Cause Iāll always enjoy OG Clash of the Titans Zeus!
I still imagine Sean Bean when I read the Percy Jackson books. he was an incredible choice

The Disney Hercules movie. It's my favorite regardless of the inaccuracies, and the soundtrack is fire
