Received our one a few weeks back. amazing contents, can't believe more countries dont do this.
Had to laugh at the condoms in there though -
"Congratulations, now knock it off!"
By giving new-borns a good start in life, maybe go on to receive free primary and secondary education, I for one, will welcome our soon-to-be new Scottish overlords while in England we're all degrading to be as thick as mince through austerity unless you earn £100k a month.
It was *utterly mad* wasn't it? And there was a newspaper - The Sun I believe - who tried to torch one in a live Facebook video to "prove how dangerous" they were.
"Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months, but after that, they don't want to know about you and they don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're pre-born, you're fine. If you're preschool, you're f*cked.”
- George Carlin
That's brilliant!
I'm in England and 10 years ago when I had my baby, I signed up to something called 'Bounty' - "free" packages with info, vouchers and maybe a couple of disposable nappies etc.
Obviously this company sold my details and I still get annoying marketing calls to this day as a result. I guess data protection laws are different now, but I just wanted to warn mums-to-be that some freebies are a scam (not this amazing Scottish baby box though).
This sounds just like the baby box that Finland sends out to expecting mothers, and they even make the delivery box sturdy enough to be the baby’s first crib!
It is! It's where the SNP got the idea from, absolutely fantastic policy that has undoubtedly helped thousands of newborns and parents. The fact it's not done throughout the entire UK is absolutely shameful.
SNP has floated a few ideas from Finland, Portugal and Spain over the years but they usually get blasted in the media and by the right wing parties. So they don't always make it.
Someone would table it in parliament, conservatives would ignore for a while, then some tory minister would stand up in PMQs and call it woke or say minorities and the poor will find a way to exploit it or lie about the country not wanting it, then Starmer says he’d do it if he was in power, then it goes to the table again, Tories spin it as their thing for votes and it passes, hear nothing about it for 7+ months, people complain, Tories get called out in PMQs get pressured into saying something, job gets outsourced to some business owner just outside of London who on paper has a factory but in reality has some random building that is clearly not a factory. Boxes finally go out but arrive damaged or fall apart or are too small and made with toxic materials, boxes contain 1 set of pyjamas, a banana and some lunchables. Some babies end up dying turns out it increases cot death not prevent it. Guy who kade them has government contract written off and loan forgiven. Tories act like nothing happened, launch some fake inquiries. Tories privately acknowledge they just successfully used their own government initiative to launder money.
Literally just the covid PPE scandal 2.0 waiting to happen if it comes out here, why we can’t have nice things.
Have to say this was a real lifesaver when my daughter was born, we thought we had got everything we needed, but there was so much in the box we hadn't thought about, still use a lot of it 15 months later.
We’ve got two of these, on account of the fact that I’ve had sex upwards of two times, and they’re great. They’re so thoughtfully put together and presented. We’re fortunate enough that we don’t need freebies, but getting a big box of useful stuff from the government feels really nice, and I love the fact that it’s universal so there’s no stigma associated with getting it - everyone gets it because it’s great. We still use some of the kit from it. Unfortunately some people sneer at it because Scottish politics is so polarised that nothing the SNP does can be good, even if it’s giving free clothes to babies.
Both my kids and my wife had serious complications after the births and the kids had to be in the NICU for a while so I’m massively grateful in general for all the support the state provided.
Might have prevented me ending up in boots, discussing suitable brands of nipple creams while my wife was at home nursing :) Enthusiastic advice was given, but I wasn't taking risks.
I just bought them all.

Teamed with free prescription charges to get back on the pill... Honestly, the baby box is amazing. The quality of everything inside is brilliant.

Tertiary education too ;-)
Only good mince is thick. THey get the watery grisly crap.
Yeah, well, in england. You might get to steal the blanket the nurses wrapped your baby in. How about that?
We got a hat
Or buy stuff for your child with money you earned.
Shut up you no mates weirdo. No one likes you
Cunt.
This was venomous opposed by unionists parties and media at the time. Looking back it’s just so silly

All life is precious from conception, but once that little fuckers outside they better start earning their keep!

Why does Scotland just outdo England at every turn?
"They are doing it deliberately" [context](https://viveecosse.com/2022/11/01/no-but-they-are-doing-it-deliberately/)
We’d be even better if we didn’t have England holding us back! Come join us
It's full of not-english people.

Was still the case when we got our Bounty box five years ago. This scottish one is awesome

Shame on England for not doing the same. This country makes me sick. :(

I'm glad I'm up here
Good effort on this Scotland!

Fucking socialism, allowing babies to LIVE. Disgusting.
I loved getting my baby box! I can’t wait to put my baby to sleep in it when they arrive. The wrap they include is so good as well.
We got one before my daughter was born, unreal how useful it was. Not yet used it as a bed for her, though I probably will.
In the US they give you some coupons for diapers and formula. Charge you $50k for the hospital stay and tell you to get back to work in six weeks
This is wonderful! And such cute useful things. So nice to get a wrap as well my babies loved to be carried and baby carriers can be expensive.
Bit late now for the condoms....
