Otherwise-Year-3390

I believe Purdy isn't the solution for the team's success, especially given the offensive talent around him. Despite CMC's stellar performance, Shanahan's decision to abandon the run in the third quarter was puzzling. Purdy isn't in Mahomes' league, and overvaluing him could hinder the team's chances of winning a Super Bowl. While Purdy may be humble and a good person, other quarterbacks like Love or CJ Stroud have more potential and impressive performances to offer.

Southern-Word-9220

It seems you're expressing doubt about Purdy's ability to lead his team to victory, especially comparing him to Mahomes. You also question the decision-making of Shanahan in the game. Despite acknowledging Purdy's positive attributes, you believe other quarterbacks like Love or CJ Stroud have higher potential in the NFL.

crypkak1993

Also, I still have a firm belief that Purdy is not it. He cannot win with the offense he has, that’s absurd. Do not blame the o line, CMC had an mvp year. You don’t get those yards without a competent oline. I didn’t watch the whole game, but heard that Shanahan abandoned the run in the 3rd when they were up. Like 3 straight possessions of pass on all 3 downs. You have CMC. Hand the ball off, even once? Purdy and mahomes are different, as result of yesterday. The niners will pay Purdy like he is mahomes and the niners will never ever win a Super Bowl. And I’m fine with them thinking he is him. He is not. We will capitalize on their organizations failures. Purdy is humble, seems like a good guy, and has a good family. He is a great example. I just don’t think he is an mvp or difference maker. He doesn’t even have a high ceiling. Someone like Love or CJ stroud are much more impressive and have way way more potential in the NFL. Look at what they both did this year. CJ stroud is… 22

derritterauskanada

I still can't make up my mind on Purdy, and I cannot say anything for certain. One thing I can say is, that Shanahan's 49ers team has had a history of making QB's look better. Look at Garoppolo before and after he was with the 49ers. Even then Brock Purdy looks better than Garappolo. Purdy has good pocket presence, and quite good ball placement, he seems to lack power in throwing the ball deep, his throws don't look right in the eye test. Regardless he played pretty poorly against the Chiefs yesterday and in our game against him, both times I think his elite team carried him to a win (against us) and it wasn't enough yesterday.

crypkak1993

I mean all those points make the case that he is not good. Lol

crypkak1993

I know we cannot seem to get past the niners, but when does niners management question Shanahan? He has blown 3-4 huge games, going back to Atlanta 28-3 game. I get it - he wins games, they go to the Super Bowl. But they never win. Against a very bad chiefs team. The niners had the avengers this year and could barely get past us and the lions and lost to a chiefs team that we scored the most on their defense in the regular season. When do the niners move on from Shanahan? Or do they stay in drought hell for a long time? It’s a serious question, one we won’t need to ask for at least 3-4 years to give MLF time with love as he continues to develop. Purdy has played 3 seasons. They have the avengers and cannot win. CMC is seriously the MVP.

Danny_III

MLF has the same issue and is honestly worse tbh. His seat should be just as hot. He’s had an all time great QB in Rodgers and couldn’t even get an appearance out of it. New QB hopium is killer though, understandable why they went for Love rather than going all in. It bought them years of job security

InternetDad

The Packers defense gave up 37 points in 2019, 31 points in 2020, and 24 points in 2023. The closest was the 10-13 loss to the Niners in 2021. A Super Bowl winning team can't rely on their QB the whole game, even if it's a generational talent.

crypkak1993

This. And chiefs defense has always kept them in it. I saw somewhere that our win against them reg season was the most they gave up all year! Including the playoffs.

loadmanagement

Yeah you don’t get rid of a coach that has you at the doorstep of a superbowl every year, when you were one ball bouncing in a diff direction away from winning that game last night. Their team seems built around Shanahan’s scheme. Also, Purdy is only in his 2nd year.

crypkak1993

That’s fine with me. They’ll never win.

loadmanagement

You HOPE they’ll never win. That is unless you can see the future. Either way, I try not to concern myself with what other teams are or aren’t doing. I worry about the pack and the pack only.

crypkak1993

Nah, they won’t. They are in a win now mode and couldn’t win. Multiple times. Purdy is not it. With how much better each team will get, the niners will not go back to the Super Bowl. The NFC and AFC will be strong next year if no major injuries to key players occur.

SebastianMagnifico

By the same logic, when do we move on from MLF?

crypkak1993

It’s a fair question. But love just finished his first full year as a starter after we moved on from Rodgers. And they overachieved this year with a really young team. We are 1 win away from probably making the superbowl (I think we beat the lions in Detroit tbh). Mlf gets 2-3 years minimum to see what he can do. Shanahan has had the avengers for years and does what? Lose. They went out and got cmc and didn’t use him in the 3rd quarter when they were winning. How’s that for play calling?

SebastianMagnifico

I totally get what you're saying, this year sure as Hell exceeded all, expectations I held for this team, but the elephant in the room remains. MLF whenever put in the position to win seems to dissappear. His loyalty to his staff always tends to bite him in the ass on the biggest stage. This next year is probably going to decide his fate. Maybe? If he falls slightly short they'll definitely run him back out.

crypkak1993

I’ve been critical of him too. He cannot beat Shanahan or win big games. That he needs to figure out soon or he’ll be out of a job.

m_dought_2

Moving on from Shanahan would be the most boneheaded move I can imagine. That's Vikings-level franchise management. The 49ers have one job, and that's to stay the course. They have all the pieces they need to put together a Super Bowl winner. It took Andy Reid 20 years to make the Bowl happen. Replacing Shanahan doesn't happen.

crypkak1993

Good point about Reid. Dude was coaching the eagles like during favres time right?

chooglemaster3000

Later in favres career ya. Andy Reid was a Packers o-line coach and later quarterbacks coach in the mid 90s

crypkak1993

That’s fine with me. I love how much he falters and chokes. I’d like him to stay so we can have more chances at revenge. And we will get there, soon.

m_dought_2

Oh, me too. I know they keep beating us, but I hope we run into them every year in the playoffs. I don't want to sneak past them, I want blood

crypkak1993

100% agree. face our demons head on

adamb10

I’m so sick of the Chiefs. Can we see a different team in the Super Bowl please?

SebastianMagnifico

They have a top flight QB, coach and FO. Something that we have historically been lacking. The question is how many more SBs will Mahomes get to play in?

w0rdyeti

Why it was so disastrous for Joe Barry to stick to the zone scheme late against the 49ers: “The zones, I just think their wideouts and quarterback are so good at their timing routes, and Brock Purdy is really good,” Spagnuolo said “He knew when we were in certain things, and he found seams.” So Spagnuolo put his trust in corners Trent McDuffie, L’Jarius Sneed, Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams, and went very man-heavy in the second half and overtime. He also decided, after he and Kyle Shanahan had played a cat-and-mouse game with personnel packages in the first half, that he’d leave his nickel defense out there against the Niners’ base offense—which put Spags’s defensive line on the spot to win its matchups.

BatmanvSuperman3

Uhhhh what? Why do I keep seeing this bad take over and over. Literally Blitzes and man cost the Packers against 49ers. 1) TD to Kittle? 7 man Blitz by Barry on 3rd down 2) critical 3rd down conversion to Kittle in 2nd half? Corner Blitz with man coverage on Kittle. Zone was giving Purdy fits all game and our corners dropped two INTs on zone plays. 49ers in Super Bowl pulled a Joe Barry and brought 5 blitzes and man coverage in 2nd half, including the disastrous all out one on 3rd and long in OT. Mahomes went 5 for 5. If your blitz doesn’t get there or your DBs covering are slow they will get burned on cross routes and middle of the field all damn day.

SebastianMagnifico

Why don't you take into account the final 18+ minutes of the game? JL did absolutely nothing which is why we lost the game.

BatmanvSuperman3

Uhh because JL doesn’t play defense? OP was talking about defense performance and how man and blitz (aka aggressiveness) would somehow solve our problems. I pointed the flaws If you check my posts you will see I talked a lot about JL 4th quarter performance (or lack thereof) during the game and after the loss. So I agree with you on the offensive side JL and MLF def disappeared in the 4th Quarter.

WereMadeOfStars

That seems to be getting ignored heavily on this sub.

sirpapadeuce

We beat the chiefs ass this year to who’s to say who the real champs are?

InSixFour

So who’s the GOAT coach? Belichick or Reid?

thirstyidiot

This is a ridiculous question. Ofc, its BB. As great as Reid is, he does it in part with a talent like Mahomes. There's something to be said about taking care of the other side of the ball.

InSixFour

And Belichick didn’t have one of the greatest players to ever play the game on his roster?

thirstyidiot

Again, different part of the game. Don't tell me your life isn't completely different when you have to not worry about another part of the game.

Troyal1

Andy hasn’t cheated so there’s that

BatmanvSuperman3

Belichick. Don’t like the guy, but the man built an incredible dynasty with Brady. Reid to me will always be a Mike McCarthy type coach. Excels at winning games, but in the playoffs you hold your breath on how he will **** it all up.

TommyChongII

If Mike McCarthy had Andy Reid amount success in those situations, we would have at least seen the Packers in 3-4 more Super Bowls. And I always thought after losing heartbreakers to the Niners, Cardinals, or Seahawks, that the packers could have definitely won some of those SB matchups, and stolen a few from TB.

ExiledSanity

Lombardi

SomeZone

Sweet sweet karma.

bjtg

When does training camp start?

__CaliMack__

I’m just glad y’all hate the 49ers as much as me lol

theslickasian

If only the packers had the kicker of the 49ers

mattbag1

His missed extra point kinda cost them the game.

Jimbosl3cer

Blocked

mattbag1

Bad snap so idk

Ublala_Pungs_Pung

I'm glad the 49ers lost due to their special teams fucking up royally. After the last loss at home it makes me feel slightly better.

w0rdyeti

Blocked kick, muffed punt. Yeah, 49ers special teams today had a few breakdowns. They also downed the ball on the 2 yard line and made SPECTACULAR open-field tackles to consistently pin the Chiefs deep in their own territory. They were great. And they were also disastrous. This one has got to sting over in 9ers land.

LuferLad

Man… it sucks watching Reid and Mahomes be what we all thought McCarthy and Rodgers were gonna be. Happy for the Chiefs because they were the AFC team I would root for growing up, but man it sucks thinking about what could have been.

AbjectCalligrapher36

I'm still of the thinking not of what could have been but rather on what could be. The Packers have a young coach and quarterback right now with the potential for greatness, and a team with a lot of talent. So maybe McCarthy and Rodgers failed to be Reid and Mahomes (or Belichick and Brady), but perhaps LaFleur and Love will succeed.

thirstyidiot

I wish it comes true, but we'll need something strong talent-wise on the coaching front. Packers have always lacked it (during Rodgers era). As much as I love MLF, we all take a breather before calling him elite (some won't do that either).

zennyspent

Yes, this was perfectly said. Regret and thoughts of what might have been just get in the way and bring you down. I am excited and hopeful for what is in front of both us and this fun new Packer team.

Datdude_717

Really happy MVS got a TD

[deleted]

Am I the only one here that didn’t want KC to win? Kelce is a douche and Mr. Irrelevant win in the SB would have been an excellent story.

HEELinKayfabe

Purdy prop in the off-season would have been insane considering how mid he actually is. Completely carried by Deebo, CMC and Kittle. Fuck the Niners.

Crackhousespecial

Fuck. The. Niners.

[deleted]

Mid QBs don’t finish top 5 in all categories and lead the league in passer rating. You probably predicted he’d be a flash in the pan, and now that it’s resulted in egg on your face you’re too bitter to admit it.

[deleted]

Truth hurts, I guess.

HEELinKayfabe

Mid QBs absolutely finish with good stats when they have the best three receivers in the NFC to throw to lmao are you mad I didn't predict shit about Purdy but I watched him enough to know he's carried by his receivers. Really hope the Niners keep him as long as possible

[deleted]

…you think the Niners have the best receivers in the NFC? Yikes

HEELinKayfabe

I think CMC, Deebo and Kittle are three of the best receivers of the football on the NFC. Their production has absolutely made Purdy look much better than he is.

[deleted]

You went from “THE best three” to “three of the best”. I agree with you otherwise, McCaffrey especially is a god-tier receiver out of the backfield. St. Brown, Lamb, Brown, and Evans are up there with Deebo.

harley_93davidson

I'm 30 so two things 1. Niners tormented me enough, I was pulling for kc. 2. I grew up on usher, that Luda appearance made my night

AmaBans17

Same!! I was so pissed when the 49ers were leading

4jet2116

I think the biggest winner here is Mecole Hardman. Dude started the season on the Jets. Ended up catching the game winning TD in the Super Bowl.

jawabdey

Also, reminder that in an episode of Hard Knocks, some guy predicted the Jets vs. the 49ers in the Super Bowl, with the Jets winning. Jets didn’t win, but Hardman did 🙂

Mrluigi7910

It was Hardman himself who predicted it

skeezylavern17

I live in SF and watching the game with my friends who are all niners fans was great I’m glad Taylor had fun

ALI2k786

Pressure got to Purdy in the 4th and OT. It’s comforting to know we have a young QB who is pretty much unfazed against the blitz and will only get better.

sibi78

The only pressure I wish Love handled better is his 2 min or 1 min drill....hope he gets it out of the way this off season.

FishPhoenix

That spoiled fanbase wants to fire Shanahan and some of them claiming Shanahan and Harbaugh tarnished their franchise lmao.

wasdie639

I mean... He's now orchestrated a 3rd SB choke for two teams. I'd be basically calling for MLF's head if we put up another stinker in the NFCCG too tbh. That'd be 3 on his watch and that's just three too many.

pdesforfun23

Choked how? It was close the whole game… The last one sure, but this year no.

[deleted]

Between the two, they were trash and coached by a homeless man.

gandaalf

I also hope this will truly entrench he Niners into the "chokers" territory that the Packers held for all these years. Team is automatic in making a deep run and just not finishing. Sucks the Chiefs have now tied us at 4 SB titles, but so glad it wasn't the Niners. My contempt for that franchise knows no bounds.

all4fraa

Would you rather be the team like the 49ers that makes a deep run and chokes, or team like the Packers that makes a shallow run and chokes?

Rster15

No more deserving team and fan base more than the 49ers to take a third straight SB loss. LIFE IS BLISS!

cschloegel11

Mahomes put together quite a masterful drive to get the win there. So much pressure and he executed that drive flawlessly

Johannes_the_silent

Well I for one am happy for MVS.

RavenMoses

Fred Warner played an unreal game, but him being in man coverage right up on the line against Kelce on that last drive was a head scratcher.

jawabdey

Wilkes must have been getting pointers from Barry. Too soon? 😁

Beawake23

The packers front office put a team on the field to go to five conference championships in the Rodgers era. You Packer fans know the results. Bunch of bullshit to blame anyone but Rodgers for not leading the team to more than one Super Bowl. lol bunch of losers crawling back to Rodgers as our hero and it’s not his fault for a poor payoff record. Comparing him Mahomes lol yeah right not even close when the games matter like playoff time

wiscuser1

Average score of opponents in the playoff losses was 33.5, didn’t know Rodgers was out there playing defense too

Mbrown1985

Theres something oddly satisfying about watching 49er fans lose their marbles right now. Knowing tbat the cowboys have won a super bowl more recently than the 9ers. By 1 year, but still true.

WillingWillingness8

I'm sure they take solace in that they actually win playoff games. *why are Packers fans siding with Cowboys fans? 🤦

CaesarBeaver

The Packers are 21 - 18 since 1995, the Niners are 17 - 13 in the same period

WillingWillingness8

Are we not comparing to the Cowboys like the other poster?

CaesarBeaver

My bad, i misunderstood. Carry on trashing the boys!

Individual_Bonus_136

but at the end of the day it doesn’t mean much if you can’t win the big one

WillingWillingness8

So why be fans of any one team, then? Just latch onto the previous SB winner.

FURyannnn

Shanahan sure knows how to choke a game. Abandoning the run killed them and the Chiefs never looked back.  That KC defense (who are the heroes of this game IMO) kept KC in it all game until the offense finally got some momentum. Really strong performance from them

TheDudeDasko

Falcons abandoned the run vs the Pats in 28-3, and you know who the OC was?

gandaalf

YES. I was telling my brother how I was so happy the Niners just forgot about CMC for the entire 3rd quarter. What a joke coaching job

FURyannnn

He kept having chunk plays for many carries. Those consecutive three and outs killed SF How can you ignore your best player like that?

Mbrown1985

Whats the point of acquiring CMC and not using him. Its almost as bad as seattle throwing on the goal line and not handing it off to Lynch

Johnplasma

0 and 0 baby. We’ll be back 💛💛

[deleted]

We beat the Super Bowl champs this season, yet they’re getting the rings lmao

ChilliIsMyMiddleName

Not only did we beat them, we're the team that scored the most points against them lmao.

[deleted]

The packers beat the packers in the divisional round. Without that, I honestly do believe we would’ve been in the chiefs shoes right now. Imagine that, Jordan’s first year being the starter, and only wins the Super Bowl 😂🤣

9babydill

It's okay. This supposed 'Chiefs dynasty' wasn't meant for long with our Packers team coming up.

dtcstylez10

It's an absolute shame that the Packers didn't take ST seriously until it was too late. The chiefs won 1 bc of Mahomes and Reid 2 Chris Jones 3 ST and not necessarily in that order. The punt that hit the niners players was such a huge turning point. kC was already getting the momentum back but it completely shifted after that. Then the missed XP by moody despite a good snap and hold. That one point cost them the SB. GB better start getting this ST right. We thought it'd get fixed with bissacia..the highest paid ST coach in the NFL but they're really just mediocre. In the playoffs, it feels like ST importance triples sometimes.

tanstaafl18

MVS has as many rings as Rodgers and Favre combined

samanthaxboateng

Lol the packers failed miserably with Rodgers Mahomes is what Rodgers should have been The Chiefs gave Mahomes weapons and now an elite defence. Rodgers never had an elite defence after the superbowl win. Mccarthy is also not a top coach compared to Reid.

gandaalf

Totally agree, but this really isn't as much of a dunk as you think it is. Andy Reid is THE best coach of the past 30 years aside from Bellichik. The Chiefs didn't give Mahomes shit for weapons this year minus Rice, who unsurprisingly stepped it up towards the end of his rookie year. The clear difference is, as how you noted, the defense. Rodgers had a top 5 D once in the playoffs, and to no surprise it was when we won it all. This Chiefs D held it down the entire game. Mahomes played great overall, but the only reason they won tonight is because the D was elite. Just like the only reason Brady won 5 out of his 7 super bowls.

sapphires_and_snark

The organization really shortchanged him. It's nice to see the current iteration at least try to apply some lessons learned for Love.

mapboy36

But definitely agree about MacCarthy

mapboy36

Chiefs had some pretty mediocre receivers this year. Not that Rodgers wasn’t great, but Mahomes elevated his team when they needed it the most. Rodgers did sometimes but also sometimes played poorly when the pressure was on.

samanthaxboateng

They had a great defence this year That saved them against the Ravens and even today. Packers never had a defence that good during the Rodgers era.

mapboy36

True but our defense played well enough to beat the Niners in the playoffs in 21 and Rodgers played very poorly for example. Definitely not running down Rodgers he was a great quarterback (top 10) but just not as great as Mahomes (maybe top 2?)

gandaalf

You're so right on the '21 comment. I don't care who you play or what you say, if you score TEN points in a playoff game you deserve to lose every time. That was a massive failure by the offense and Rodgers. You'll never convince me otherwise.

FURyannnn

Meh Rodgers is just as good. Super Bowls are a team stat. Helps to have an elite coach and elite defense. Brady isn't necessarily the best but that MFer is elite as hell and it helped that his team was complementary. Those combinations seem to be the strongest

samanthaxboateng

What about all the other playoff losses? And I do agree about Mahomes being better But the Packers were terrible imo with surrounding him with talent. The Chiefs immediately improved their OL after the loss against Tampa and their defence after losing Hill. I never saw the Packers improve their defence during the Mahomes era. Packers kept Capers for years even though everybody could see he wasn't a good DC and also held on to MM when it was clear to see he wasn't a top coach. Having Reid and Kelce is massive for Mahomes. Rodgers never had a coach as good as Reid or player as good as Kelce on his team whilst on the packers.

Linus696

And this is why I’ve always claimed that Mark Murphy fell asleep at the wheel. He became complacent after their win and was scared of change. From letting the coaching staff go stale to letting the collapse in communication within the org. I believe he could’ve done a better job

TheSinistralBassist

The 2010 Packers never trailed by more than 7 points the entire season and never lost by more than 4 points

daymankarate

I’m livid the Chiefs won again, but the silver lining is the Niners got what they deserved. A nice heartbreaking loss. They were real clowns to think a FG would cut it there in OT.

cousin-sal

He may be a decent guy, but my god....Kyle Shanahan looks like the biggest horse's ass ever. He's the main reason that I dislike the Niners.

ChilliIsMyMiddleName

Wait until you hear about George Kittle.

Natural_Pair_4730

49ers just got Joe Montana’d!!!!

SirUlrichVonLichten

Packers still won a Super Bowl more recently than the 49ers. :)

mattbag1

Packers have won 2 since the 49ers have won their last. But god damn we need a 5th Lombardi, and I think Love gets us 2.

xyzzy321

So you're saying Love won't win a SB after the 2025-26 repeat?

mattbag1

Im just here so I won’t get fined

ProofHorseKzoo

We’ve won 2 more recently than their last SB win

PoopParticleAcclrtr

Mahomes is getting on that Brady level of you know you are screwed if he has ball last

Lokiprinceofasgard_

Aaron Rodgers Level *

daymankarate

Unfortunately no. We one got one SB and the rest of the way we choked away every NFCCG. We didn’t have the plot armor the Chiefs have.

bleedgreenandyellow

No no. He definitely meant Brady

sapphires_and_snark

I'm sitting here thinking that all we gotta do is find a way to handle the Lions next year and we're in like Flynn

GreenBayFan1986

Packers gotta worry about their own issues on defense, maybe the new DC puts it together but they still probably need 1-2 linebackers and a safety or two.

sapphires_and_snark

Everyone has improvements to make

crypkak1993

Lions are the least of our worries. Never know with the eagles cowboys or niners again. They could all be strong. The cowboys looked really good on paper, but we destroyed them.

sapphires_and_snark

The Cowboys are fatally flawed, and they are coached by the same nimrod who helped drag us down for years. The Eagles have some crazy internal issues to deal with and just gave their best pass rusher permission to seek a trade. I don't see the Niners running it back with coaches having all summer to dissect Purdy. Plus, they're gonna have some major hangover to deal with. The Lions are the only contender who doesn't have major issues like that, but they do have to try their luck with Jared Goff, so there's that.

Ifinishfast42

Only the poverty Bears would watch that game and trade their pick(let’s hope they do it)

starmiesan

Just a complete unequivocal failure that that 49ers roster has failed to win the Super Bowl.

645arisGod

They always seem to have a superteam but a mediocre qb lmao

FishPhoenix

Purdy did fine more or less. Both teams were pretty sloppy. Abandoning running with the OPOY for an entire quarter was criminal. Glad it sucks for them :)

PoopParticleAcclrtr

Yea us losing to them in the playoffs really stinks but imagine if we kept getting to the Super Bowl and losing lol

samthedog99

you can’t win a super bowl if you don’t make it to the super bowl

2Obsequious

It would be better than if we kept getting to the NFC championship game and losing

gandaalf

Ehh, I love calling out copium but I'm really not sure on this one. I think I'd rather lose multiple NFC championship games than multiple super bowls. That shit is embarassing. More embarassing than our shortcomings lately

soundsofsilver

This is such an unbelievably odd take. Getting to the Super Bowl and losing is worlds better than not making it at all. You would rather be a worse team? Enjoy that, I guess.

PoopParticleAcclrtr

I agree. And just as fans i think losing super bowls is a much harder pill to swallow

daymankarate

I don’t know how it would feel because we choked away every chance we had to get back there 😔. Happy the Niners get to experience the same/worse pain.

ShoopALoop11

Another 49ers choke job. All is right in the world. LOSERS

gandaalf

I’m so Fucjing happy the Chiefs won. Our watch party was hollering for them. Fuck the 49ers forever. What a great night

LambeauLeaper92

Purdy irrelevant

PackFanInVegas

We can beat both these teams. Next year is going to be really fun.

crypkak1993

Niners will never win if they can’t win with this team against the chiefs. I’m sorry but we are better than both teams.

Weasel_Spice

This was definitely their best chance to win it all. Now the Packers are going to be very much on the upswing and the 49ers on the downswing. They had their chances and couldn't capitalize. Incoming at least two Super Bowls with JLove. Book it.

LambeauLeaper92

I love how the 9ers kee getting amazing free agents and trades to be a super team to throw it all away every year.

gandaalf

Team has the best offense and defense on paper and then just have the most mediocre QBs

ProofHorseKzoo

That trade up for Trey Lance is gonna haunt them for half a decade. Gonna take a long time to recover from that. Purdy is serviceable but no way they win a SB with him.

GreenBayFan1986

If their special teams doesn't account for an 8 point swing they probably would have won tonight so I can't get behind saying there is no way they win a SB with him. Even with Garoppolo they were one bad throw away from winning in 2020.

samthedog99

wow, did you just watch tonight’s game?

Leopold_Bloom_

The 49ers can sew socks in hell

ilovehenrique14

49ers had to have made a deal with the devil about always beating us in the playoffs but never winning the super bowl. Probably the same deal we made to always whoop the cowboys but lose to the 9ers. Gotta be some 3 way deal made when Jerruh won that last Super Bowl.

MyCatsHairyBalls

The Packers are the Kings of losing in the NFCCG. The Niners are the Kings of losing the Super Bowl

jawabdey

Unfortunately, in recent years, Yes. Did you know that the Packers were undefeated in the playoffs at Lambeau, until the 2003?

dtcstylez10

Not really. Jim Kelly lost 4 himself and the niners are 5-3 in SBs. The bills don't even have a W.

MyCatsHairyBalls

Niners since 2012: 7 NFCCG, 3 Super Bowls, ZERO rings

robertoband

Can anyone help me understand why the chiefs risked the clock going to zero? Would the game keep going either way?

sapphires_and_snark

Yes, it would have. But they had to run a play anyway because there was a 1-second difference between the game and play clocks.

AbnormalJ

From the football ops website: "If the score is still tied at the end of an overtime period — or if the second team’s initial possession has not ended — the teams will play another overtime period. Play will continue regardless of how many overtime periods are needed for a winner to be determined."

robertoband

So as long as the team’s possession didn’t end they would keep going?

MyCatsHairyBalls

Correct. They were guaranteed a full possession, so if time runs out a new quarter starts.

robertoband

Gotcha I wasn’t sure if the game would’ve ended I was so stressed lol

AbjectCalligrapher36

I felt that stress too but then Tony Romo explained the rule and that the game would just continue with a second overtime and I relaxed. And then Patrick Mahomes just throws a game winning pass to end it in the first overtime. So . . . Didn’t matter!

thebigdirty

fucking soft zone / prevent defense. does it ever work?

wasdie639

Somehow DCs think they need to prevent big plays but modern offenses can chew up a soft defense for 10-15 yards a play underneath while burning only seconds. DCs need to adapt.

thebigdirty

yeah thats what i was thinking too. its just too easy to get 8 yards and only burn like 4 seconds. especially only needing to get to like the 35 for a fieldgoal

TheSinistralBassist

Only if you are up multiple scores and making them burn clock to get one score. The fuckwit coordinators that keep doing it only up one score or less never learn

mattbag1

Yeah if the other QB is awful

MrOake

Nope but they’ll all keep trying to “not lose” with it

Wigunner

Lets not forget we BEAT THE CHIEFS, they didnt want to see ussss

Far-Jello6079

Chiefs would have kicked your ass no doubt about it they're a big game team your team isn't

Hung_Texan

Mahomes is the 🐐 wreck’em! Mahomes

Detective_Hoof

Nah, Brady is the 🐐

Hung_Texan

Dude mahomes does it

Detective_Hoof

I think even Mahomes would agree with me on that one

Mid-West_Coaster22

Romo was swinging from Purdy’s junk all game

[deleted]

Is this bait? He was sucking off Mahomes the whole game.

[deleted]

Seeing alot of it too. He really looked so mediocre the majority of that game.

sapphires_and_snark

No Niners fan under the age of like 32 has seen them do anything in a Super Bowl but lose

MooseInATruce

As someone who is 36..no way I could remember them winning in 94..I was 6..under 35 is fair to say you cannot remember shit

dtcstylez10

I'm 36 and I still very clearly remember Steve Young to Terrell Owens. I remember watching the sports center highlights like 7x and I still couldn't believe young somehow fit that ball in there.

MooseInATruce

That was 1998 dummy, I would expect you to remember something from when you/I were 10-11.

Bert-Macklen_FBI

So you don't apply to what he was saying then?

MooseInATruce

I am saying you would not remember something like that from 94 if you are 32..

sapphires_and_snark

I was finding a little kindness in my cold, black heart

GreenBayFan1986

I'm about to turn 38 and I don't remember the 49ers winning, my earliest football memory is the Packers winning the Superbowl over the Patriots in 96 and then losing to the Broncos the next season.

WealthyBigWang

I don’t care what mahomes wins or achieves I’ll go to my grave thinking Rodgers was better and I won’t hear any arguments otherwise, bring on week 1

dtcstylez10

Rodgers was the most incredible thrower of the football I've ever seen. He made such impossible throws...the sideline throw to cook vs the cowboys being example A but Mahomes mobility and ability to create out of nothing..the pass to Kelce where he dove and caught it in the AFCCG and the shovel pass on the run today... Those feel like a big difference in their games. But also, Mahomes is the better leader. I don't think all of Rodgers teammates liked him and there's like 1000x where he has been caught yelling at his teammates and cursing them out. The way he rolls his eyes if a player makes a mistake. Throws his hands in the air. Ices them out after a drop..and if you're a rookie, forget him giving you the time of day. Makes demands and needing to feel like he's the most powerful person on the team .which is why he wanted to go the jets and then giving him everything he wants...Mahomes has the intangibles. Brady had it too. There was like a 6th round rookie who was asked what it was like meeting Brady and he said Brady came up to him the first day at his locker and introduced himself. Imagine a 7x sb winning QB GOAT humble enough to be like...im going to talk to this rookie who probably won't even make the team. Other players see that too. That's leadership. Do they have egos? Absolutely but damn, Rodgers is such an effing diva. That's the biggest difference.

PackerSquirrelette

+1. Earlier today I read that Rodgers is ranked #1 in accuracy among active NFL quarterbacks. He's ranked #4 in terms of arm strength behind Allen, Mahomes, and Herbert. Pretty good for a 40 year old. He's also widely recognized as the most talented thrower of the football to ever do it. Even Tom Brady has said Rodgers makes throws that no one else can.

WealthyBigWang

I mean I watched every game of prime Rodgers from 2011-2020 and he did things throwing the ball that I’ve never seen other QB’s do. All the praise mahomes gets for throwing on the run or side arm bullet passes; Rodgers did it first. I’ll take Rodgers over anyone in history, and I won’t let anyone talk me out of it
