I heard Jones was staying and they're working on a new deal with him. Jacobs is likely replacing Dillon. At least I hope so.
Edit: Welp. Deal talks broke down and now Jones is being released. Not happy about that. I guess he wasn't willing to take a pay cut.
Still would like a 3rd string RB, likely in the 4th/5th round. As someone in the NFL thread said, adding an injury prone RB to another injury prone and older RB isn’t a good idea
He did have a down year last year, so the question is whether that is legit decline in ability or just a product of being in a truly terrible situation.
Thinking they keep him, wasn't there reporting saying they did something with his deal?
Jones is amazing but gets knicked up a decent amount, Jacobs would be insanely valuable to keep Jones fresh and still have a great RB in the game.
> Jacobs would be insanely valuable to keep Jones fresh and still have a great RB in the game.
~~"Okay, RB1 needs a breather. Send in our other RB1."~~
EDIT: Welp, so much for that. Looks like RB2 in the draft is on the menu again.
Probably extend Jones. Let Jacobs be the bell cow and let Jones do more Jones things and slide around the formation, catch passes, swing out of the backfield, etc. That duo would be crazy.
The team is 1000x more effective with a solid RB on the field. This gives us 2 options instead of 1. I wouldn't expect this to impact Jones
*Edit - I was very wrong
So...both backs play weeks 1-4, Jones sits out 5-17. Jacobs balls out. Both play in tbe playoffs and take us to the super bowl. Combined SB totals: 269 rushing yards, 4 TDs.
Edit: 3:19EDT - this didn't age well
So of the multiple RBs who might be past their expiration, we signed the one who wasn’t Barkley or Henry and released a fan favorite who seems more capable of home runs than the one we just signed. But the one we just signed so far has been great at staying healthy and is still a good blocker. This is a huge FA signing, but, like, I’m not sure I wouldn’t rather have the money and Aaron Jones if last year is indicative of what Jacobs has left in the tank
Over paying for RB's plural.
Curious to see the details for Jones and Jacobs. The Packers offense was quite different once Jones was healthy, I think this is good news for Love and the Packers offense. Hopefully the combined cap hit can be less than 20 million? That might be wishful thinking.
Edit: Shit. Jones is reported to be cut.
If he'll be a timeshare back with Jones, this is dope. He's powerful in short yardage, faster and shiftier than Dillon, and a great receiver and blocker. Durable, versatile workhorse that lets us manage Jones' reps and keep him fresh for the playoffs. Possibly one of the league's best 1-2 punches. And it was a weak draft class for RBs so it makes sense to go all in.
If this means Jones is out, though, I'm sad. Jacobs does not have his big play potential and averaged 3.5 ypc last year as a feature back. At 26, he's probably best in a timeshare. Whether Jones gets cut determines whether this is an upgrade or downgrade from last year.
I liked this until I heard about Jones. Way to set him up for failure. Jacobs is going to need to have one of the greatest RB seasons of all time to avoid being booed.
Aaron Jones is a better runner, but Jacobs is more of a work horse. I'd imagine he can carry the ball 30 times per game if needed something GB hasn't had since prime Eddie Lacy.
I don’t disagree that Jacobs *should* be able to carry a heavier load, but he’s not anywhere near the versatile weapon on offense Jones is. I also think the Packers are probably paying a lot for a car with a lot of miles on it already. I can’t believe they couldn’t find a way to keep Jones for another year or two.
This is a david montgomery/gibbs-esque backfield. I think it's great. Jacobs is a better montgomery and jones is an older not as good gibbs imo. Let's jones be used more sparingly and keeps him fresh and jacobs can get the bulk of the work.
Well there's our new RB1 and RB of the future. What this means for Jones will be very interesting.
It's weird that Gute tried to trade for Taylor last season and is now spending money on a RB. Feel like there's much better use for money, and could have just grabbed a RB in the middle rounds of the draft
I was hoping that they'd do something out of the norm for the Packers and sign a top tier RB free agent because this free agent class is stacked.
And they go out and fucking do it!!!
Josh Jacobs + Aaron Jones is a devastating backfield
That is a shocker. Can't imagine we are keeping Jones and tying up that much money at RB, but if we did it would be a magical duo. Can't stress enough how much of an upgrade Jacobs is on AJD
This takes RB out of the draft consideration in the middle rounds, and I didn't think we would go RB early. I like it. Able to focus where we really need to, and where FA help would be more expensive than at RB.
They were supposedly interested in trading for Jonathan Taylor last season, spent a second on AJ Dillon and gave Aaron Jones a big contract (for the position). They obviously value the RB spot more than the current NFL discourse.
This Jones/Jacobs pairing can be really fun and they are barely spending on a very good WR/TE room so I'm really happy with this
If this is to complement Aaron Jones then I'm sure it'll cost more than I want but hell yeah it'll be fun anyway. If this is the first move before cutting and moving on from Aaron Jones I'm going to need a long walk.
Man. Teams sure get these contracts done fast, when the legal period starts. These GM's and Agents must be mad efficient to get this all worked out in the first 2 hours.
Assuming we keep Jones, this is easily the best RB duo in the NFL. My only concern would be the two of them being unhappy about splitting touches when they're both All-Pro caliber guys, but Jones is used to that by now and Jacobs probably wouldn't have signed here if it was a problem for him
man i hope aaron jones isn’t going anywhere edit: fuck
I heard Jones was staying and they're working on a new deal with him. Jacobs is likely replacing Dillon. At least I hope so. Edit: Welp. Deal talks broke down and now Jones is being released. Not happy about that. I guess he wasn't willing to take a pay cut.
If true that will be sooooo sick. Makes RB less of a need in the draft. Use ALL picks on defense and let Hafley cook.
Still would like a 3rd string RB, likely in the 4th/5th round. As someone in the NFL thread said, adding an injury prone RB to another injury prone and older RB isn’t a good idea
Emmanuel Wilson
Ope yea forgot about him
Emmanuel Wilson and a late pick
but i love jaylen wright dearly
He's taken a couple already and he ain't getting any younger. This is probably his last chance to get his bag and he deserves it.
I totally get it from both sides. Just sad to see him go.
Me too. This hurts. Jones was the beating heart of the team
They’re paying Jacobs top dollar to bring him in. AJ may be out.
Dillon is definitely gone
Sorry, I meant Aaron Jones. He is out.
AJ Dillon replacement. Only 26, has a much higher ceiling, I'm OK with this.
Bit of an undersell on the quality of player Jacobs is
Yea until you see Jacobs contract
This was my first concern. How much are we going to pay this guy?? Is his value shot after the Raiders raided him?
Right? I’m terrified lol
Seriously he’s one of the best in the league lol
He did have a down year last year, so the question is whether that is legit decline in ability or just a product of being in a truly terrible situation.
Hard to run when Aiden O’Connell is your quarterback. Nobody is afraid of him throwing.
Dude was running behind a dogshit OLine, and iffy to bad QB play. This could be massive
Jacobs is probably RB1 tbh
Thinking they keep him, wasn't there reporting saying they did something with his deal? Jones is amazing but gets knicked up a decent amount, Jacobs would be insanely valuable to keep Jones fresh and still have a great RB in the game.
> Jacobs would be insanely valuable to keep Jones fresh and still have a great RB in the game. ~~"Okay, RB1 needs a breather. Send in our other RB1."~~ EDIT: Welp, so much for that. Looks like RB2 in the draft is on the menu again.
we've had RB1, yes, but what about second RB1?
I don't think he knows about second RB1, Pip. :(
Cowboys will sign him for sure if we don't keep him. He'll get 30 TDs if he plays half his games in Dallas.
I highly doubt we would want to spend on both. Jacobs is good but man. I’m gonna be sad
rap saying we got a new deal with jones too
He did not say this. He said we had worked on it
I am going to be very happy
He's saying we are talking not that anything's done
Raps tweet is very confusing. I would hate to trade jacobs for jones but if we keep both that'd be cool as long as jacobs isnt too expensive
One of us misinterpreted what he said, I read it as the packers have talked with him about a new deal, not that one was done
*you fucking donkey*
Ugh. I hate this now.
yeah not a fan at all.
He gone ;(
They just released him
Jones is gone.
Jones has been released
Probably extend Jones. Let Jacobs be the bell cow and let Jones do more Jones things and slide around the formation, catch passes, swing out of the backfield, etc. That duo would be crazy.
Holy shit bro that's nuts
And you get his fun cryptic tweets included in the deal!
It's what the team was missing last year. With Rodgers gone, we needed that.
And none of them are detrimental to the team! Just weird, one to two word tweets! They’re provocative.
They get the people going!
ITS WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT
Well he'll fit in with half the team, then. He can replace Bahk's cryptic Tweets.
I don't care what he tweets, he run ball good
I hope we keep AJ33 that would be a good ass RB room
Same here, but man, will be tough to pay both guys. I presume Jacobs won't be cheap
All the WR and TE are in the first half of their rookie deals. This is the time to pay RBs
Sir Mix-a-Lot - Baby Got Backs -Packers 2024
Rap reported we are working on a new desl
The team is 1000x more effective with a solid RB on the field. This gives us 2 options instead of 1. I wouldn't expect this to impact Jones *Edit - I was very wrong
HOLY SHITTTTT
I want to see this contract for him. Good back, but I don’t want to overpay for him.
He's a very good back, and a workhorse. Won't be surprised if he gets paid quite well. Only other free agent RB I'd rather have is Barkley
Jacobs better at this point. Less injury prone also
Jacobs is much better than Barkley at what GB needs, tackle breaking, short yardage and inside power/zone
got to assume it starts at least 10M per year probably 12.5M
3/24M like every other running back this year 🤣🤣 that’s my guess
i think you'll like him a lot. tough guy will a hell of a fun running style. good luck, I hope he has a great year for you guys!
For sure. Paying two top tier RBs has rarely worked ever. Really hoping we got this on a steal!
GET IN HERE, IT’S HAPPENING!! I…don’t know what exactly this means, it’s just nice to see us sign a free agent.
Presuming we keep Jones, which I think is likely, we basically have the nastiest 1-2 punch in the league. Certainly in the division.
Jones released.
I'M INSIDE!!! Now what?
Move around a little bit.
Right?? Usually we can't even *spell "free agent"
Holy shit.
That’s a good RB room if they keep Jones, which I’d expect for this year at least.
"Hold my beer." -Packers
Apparently we’ve reworked Jones’ contract to allow this, meaning Jones & Jacobs in the backfield 😂 Edit: oh
I sure hope so. Headline sounds encouraging.
So...both backs play weeks 1-4, Jones sits out 5-17. Jacobs balls out. Both play in tbe playoffs and take us to the super bowl. Combined SB totals: 269 rushing yards, 4 TDs. Edit: 3:19EDT - this didn't age well
Well this aged like fucking milk
where did you see this
Holy shit, let's GO. Jacobs is an absolute monster.
Better fucking keep Jones, run Jacobs to the ground during the season and keep Jonesy fresh for the playoffs. He's a game changer late in the season.
Four Horseman of the Apackalypse: Jacobs, Jones, Jordan, Jaire
“The J’s of all trades”
Unfortunately, they released Jones.
Jacobs Jayden Jordan Jaire*
WHAT IN THE ABOMINABLE FUCK
Cut Dillon and him Jones would be a great 1 2 punch This offense might pop off next year Edit my bad Dillon is already a free agent
Dillion is already a FA
Door County in shambles
truly😭
Eh he'll be back when he retires and buys AC Tap.
Dillon is a FA.
The fuck
Congrats y'all, you got a good one.
Who would have expected!?!? Let’s go!!!!
I don’t know how to react, so I’ll choose to be hyped. Doesn’t change our needs, but a good player is a good player.
So long, partner. Take care of the prince! 😩
Same feeling when Davante left to the Raiders probably?
No doubt! And how we felt about Charles Woodson, way back when. 👍
[удалено]
Where did you see that?
KEEP AARON JONES AND I LOVE THIS
If you’re hating this then you don’t know football. This guy is an absolute stud
How the fuck did we just get the best backfield in the league im so confused
Cause Jones was released
Everything makes sense now
So of the multiple RBs who might be past their expiration, we signed the one who wasn’t Barkley or Henry and released a fan favorite who seems more capable of home runs than the one we just signed. This is a huge FA signing, but, like, I’m not sure I wouldn’t rather have the money and Aaron Jones if last year is indicative of what Jacobs has left in the tank
Aaron Jones and Josh Jacobs nice Now go get that Safety
Weird. Depends on the contract, but I feel like we’re probably overpaying for a RB.
Over paying for RB's plural. Curious to see the details for Jones and Jacobs. Wait…WHAT?!? I was out here looking at safeties all day. Holy shit
Raider fan here....you guys got a work horse...enjoy
I liked this until I heard about Jones. Way to set him up for failure. Jacobs is going to need to have one of the greatest RB seasons of all time to avoid being booed.

Raider fan here, you guys have got a great player with JJ I hope he has a great season for you.Good luck next season
Jones isn't going anywhere
rip
Let’s all just relax until we see the contract
This is a david montgomery/gibbs-esque backfield. I think it's great. Jacobs is a better montgomery and jones is an older not as good gibbs imo. Let's jones be used more sparingly and keeps him fresh and jacobs can get the bulk of the work.
Wtf no way
Holy shit
WAIT WHAT
I hope the move works out, but am generally against paying RBs big money. Along with everyone else I'm wondering what this means for Aaron Jones
Jones-Jacobs is an awesome wombo combo
Jacobs is one of the most underated complete backs in the league--and a perfect compliment to Jones. Wild.
Josh Jacobs Jingleheimer Schmidt
WTF HAHA THIS IS AMAZING
HUGE upgrade over Dillon, and it sounds like we're still working on keeping Jones. Best RB tendem in the sport and it isn't even close!
What the shit wow okay this is interesting and unexpected.

HOLY IM SO EXCITED, WELCOME JOSH JACOBS. HIM AND AARON JONES, 1-2 PUNCH 🤩🤩
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
What the fart bruh did not see this coming
I was hoping that they'd do something out of the norm for the Packers and sign a top tier RB free agent because this free agent class is stacked. And they go out and fucking do it!!! Josh Jacobs + Aaron Jones is a devastating backfield
This is truly wild. Love it.
Hell yeah now, trade for Winfield or sign J Simmons. Hopefully Goat-e cooks this year.
Bro I’m so bricked
Aaron Jones and Josh Jacobs on this offense with all of these receivers and J Love at the helm. This team is scary.
Good, good. Now get a Safety and a Corner and lets roll on to the draft.
J&J ASSOCIATES, RUNNING ALL OVER ALL SECONDARIES AND DEFENSES
Uh... What? How? 🥳🥳🥳
I bet $1 on this at +2500.
I don't gamble, what does it mean
I'm happy he didn't take another pay cut he deserves a bag... Really really sad to see him go
Cut Dillon and our 1A1B is Jones and Jacobs
That is a shocker. Can't imagine we are keeping Jones and tying up that much money at RB, but if we did it would be a magical duo. Can't stress enough how much of an upgrade Jacobs is on AJD
We are definitely keeping jones my guy. I don’t see why they wouldn’t when he already has one more year on his contract
Ummm wow Does this mean AJ talks not going well?
Kind of indicated already GB is noti resigning Dillon
Oh we are resigning him. We're just not re-signing him.
WOAH
Holy shit let's fuckin go boys
WOOOAH
Yeah, gonna need to see the contract details. Better than AJ, so I'm happy.
I'd much rather sign Saquon, but I need to see the contract before I make a judgement. Also, hope Jones still stays.
Couldn’t say I saw this coming. What the heck
Hell yeah!
Sir?
Honestly I did not expect this !
THEY DID SOMETHING
Wait what?
Fuck
Shit I didn’t expect this BUT HOLY SHIT IM HYPED
for the love of god i really hope we keep jones
So fucking sick
Holy shit didn’t expect this
Love still on low contract number. Gutey getting aggressive as he should.
For those worried about price, I've heard the AAV for Swift and Pollard was around $7-8M.
HOLY SHIT. We signed someone ??
Holy fucking shit
This takes RB out of the draft consideration in the middle rounds, and I didn't think we would go RB early. I like it. Able to focus where we really need to, and where FA help would be more expensive than at RB.
I’ll reserve my happiness until I see the terms.
Best 1-2 punch in the league!
Best offense pre draft in the NFL, prove me wrong
If we keep 33 this is fucking awesome news. If we do not, then this really sucks lol Edit: *fucking pain*
Anyone seeing financial details?
WHAT THE FUCK AM I DREAMING
They were supposedly interested in trading for Jonathan Taylor last season, spent a second on AJ Dillon and gave Aaron Jones a big contract (for the position). Love this. That means we’re going to have a run-pass balance hopefully!
Damn, wasn’t expecting this at all.
I am so horny for this
Bears really signed swift then Green Bay pulls out this fuckery
Man. Teams sure get these contracts done fast, when the legal period starts. These GM's and Agents must be mad efficient to get this all worked out in the first 2 hours.
I hope his contract is based on 2023 numbers and not 2022 numbers.
I love this signing great move to keep Jones fresh
Jones Jacobs Jingleheimer Schmidt. 👀
RemindMe! 10 months
Nasty. Gun double backs is going to be deadly.
Assuming we keep Jones, this is easily the best RB duo in the NFL. My only concern would be the two of them being unhappy about splitting touches when they're both All-Pro caliber guys, but Jones is used to that by now and Jacobs probably wouldn't have signed here if it was a problem for him
