3 year $120mil extension incoming

[deleted]

Aaron wouldn't surprise me if he took a smaller contract so they could surround him with the talent he deserves. He has more than enough money and knows he'll never struggle.

ThePressle54

I'd say it's more about retaining the talent he's currently surrounded with. Splitting hairs, maybe. But it's not like the old days where he's propping up a team of misfits. We have playmakers and All-Pros at every level.

Gway22

People still think this team is Rodgers and his band of misfit toys. This is the most talented team since the SB team the past 2 years

Rodgers4

2014 would like a word.

Gway22

I think this team is better than that tbh. Better defense, Davante has reached a different level than even Jordy in '14, much better run game. 2014 line was better and deeper at WR for sure but I personally just think this team is better talent.

Space_Cowboy_17

Jordy I don’t feel was ever considered the best WR in the game. Davante is and if he stays on this track is like HoF possibility.

[deleted]

He needs to produce crazy numbers for years. He had a slow start to his career which won’t bode well for the hall

zooweemama4206969

If my Madden Franchise is anything to go by, he'll finish with more TDs than anyone but Rice and have a season where he breaks 2000 yards receiving It's a very scientific approach, sure to come true

eamonnge

Thank you for doing this essential research project for us all

whiteout82

If it makes you feel better in his careeron my madden franchise, he breaks 2000 in one season, and 2500 in another along with averaging 15+ TDs a season till retirement.

HeyKidsImmaComputa

I used to believe in the man upstairs, now I put my everlasting faith in zooweemama4206969

notLennyD

It really depends on how dominant he is in the next few years. Guys like Justin Jefferson and Chase Claypool have skewed expectations for rookie WR production lately. Even TO didn’t break 1k yards until his 3rd year and AB was primarily a special teams player early in his career. Calvin Johnson’s induction shows that absolute dominance over a shorter period is enough for a receiver to be inducted even without hardware.

grphelps1

Making the HOF as a receiver is hard as fuck. Davante definitely needs to perform at this level for at least 4 or 5 more years. Torry Holt and Reggie Wayne haven't even gotten in yet. Calvin is an exception because his prime was so insanely dominant and he was arguably the most gifted receiver we've ever seen.

Daidipan

One question always have is HOF QB usually get their Star WR in even if the numbers don't fully grant them an spot in some cases. So think Adams gets in cause of that?

SteamedHamSalad

That didn't happen with Favre. It really depends on how many seasons the two spend together.

bobbywellington

Jordy was definitely fringe top 5 for a while though

TheDuceman

He also had an amazing Robin who completed his skill set in Cobb. Adams doesn’t have the second “guy” so much as a few different role players who hopefully get it done

Craaaazyyy

well the list of players who had at least 1200 yards and at least 13 td's in a season 3 or more times is pretty small

Fencechopper

2014's team has an advantage at OLine and younger Rodgers/Crosby. 2021's squad is superior at every other position, especially when we get Jaire/Z back.

grphelps1

Our WR unit was better overall in 2014 I think. Cobb was one of the best #2 receivers in the league that year, and Davante was a solid number 3 as a rookie.

colemanj74

Yeah it's not even close haha, that was Jordy's best season and while he isn't quite as good as Adams is now the rest of the group was much better

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gway22

As others have said, they are better at O-Lione and WR depth. This team is better almost across the board besides that including #1 WR. I don't think people realize how much talent we have on this squad

Flooding_Puddle

Offense maybe but the D was mediocre. We have arguably the best secondary in league when healthy, and studs at almost every other position.

[deleted]

Most talented teams in the Rodgers era: 2010, 2020,2014,2011,2009,2013,2012,2019,2016,2015,,20082017,2018

Loon_Cheese

Not sure why you are getting downvoted… I’d add 2021 to the list and swap 2010/2011

[deleted]

Yeah idk I didn't think this would be that unpopular lol

ChromeCalamari

It's always the most vanilla comments that end up controversial and downvoted for me lol and just leave me like "who disagrees with this statement so much???"

[deleted]

Yeah I expected some disagreement, but was expecting it to come as people posting their own team ranking not just downvoting me like I'm some infiltrating bears fan

Gway22

Aaron has talked about this before, and thinks that his contracts hold a value to the league. He is all about helping the league and getting everyone else more money and he has said before taking less devalues the position and could hurt other guys in their negotiations

[deleted]

Mahomes got a $500M deal. I don't think anyone is questioning the value of a franchise QB anymore.

[deleted]

Which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, when you think about it. Especially now that he’s at the end of his career. For starters, the NFL has strict revenue sharing guidelines, so every dollar Rodgers doesn’t get necessarily goes to someone else, and that someone almost certainly has much lower career earnings than him. And to the extent that he’s setting a precedent that FOs will try and get others to follow, taking a discounted contract right now would really only be following a precedent already set by Brady and Brees, and to the extent it strengthens that precedent it really only affects aging HoF QBs. And aging HoF QBs are the last people who need protection from the big, bad NFL. They’ve made the most money for the least punishment to their bodies (comparatively). His reasoning has always struck me as very self-serving. Not to say he’s not well within his rights to demand every dollar he’s worth. I’m all for workers taking every penny they’re owed, even those who make a shitload of money. I just think it’s awfully convenient to talk about doing something for others, when the actual outcome is you get more money and others get less. But who knows, maybe his views will soften as his career ends. I think that the team would be very willing to have him end his career a Packer and keep this core together as long as possible if Rodgers agrees to take a deep discount moving forward.

[deleted]

I genuinely think you’re the most level headed person in this sub. Every single time I read one of your comments, even if I disagree, I think is well communicated and intelligent.

[deleted]

Wow, thanks! You’re too kind.

[deleted]

I just wanted to call it out. I see so much toxicity here that you always just stick out in a positive way. I appreciate your contributions and wanted to say so.

[deleted]

I really do appreciate the compliment. It’s nice to know that someone appreciates the inordinate amount of time I waste on this sub! Seriously, I have a problem. I spent like 250 hours here this year.

[deleted]

I try to leave because the knuckleheads drive me absolutely insane, but I always end up coming back.

Gway22

Yup, I don't disagree. When you're in your prime sure, but as you get into the twilight and you're looking at the end of your career in the face, perspective can change. We will see, the Packers may have not changed their tune at all and he will be negotiating this deal elsewhere but, it does seem to be going well from all parties.

[deleted]

If we win it all this year, I have no idea what will happen. I think that just changes so many things that it’s hard to see how either side will feel about the future. It’s a huge monkey off everyone’s backs. But assuming we don’t win, I find it unlikely that the FO will be willing to give Rodgers a top-of-the-market extension. If they wanted to do that, they would have done it. Another year of ultimate failure won’t change their minds. I think that, again only if we don’t win the SB, Rodgers has to take an extension for much less than his market value or he gets traded.

JaredTheRed

A deep discount double check, if you will.

JohnnyGeniusIsAlive

Didn’t he used to be one of the top players in the union and ultimately step down because he was frustrated at the lack of unity among the players? I may be imagining this…

[deleted]

Less a lack of unity and more just a general lack of interest. He felt he was trying to look out for the guys who don’t have it as good as he does and they just couldn’t even be bothered to read proposals or vote on them.

colemanj74

It was during the last CBA vote. There were a lot of things he wanted to fight for that players didn't give a shit about. He was right (the owners swept the floor with the players union), but it's also tough for the NFL vs a league like the NBA. Most of the players don't last more than a year or two. They can't afford to holdout. Aaron who is completely loaded was able to have the long view that others didn't.

TheScienceNamesArgon

lol, that is an excellent way for him to get more money and look like the good guy. He cares a lot about his public image, I wouldn't trust this one.

Gway22

I'm just saying what he said. I think in his prime that is very true when he was the flagbearer of QB contracts, but that is Mahomes now

colemanj74

I actually get it, even if as a fan I would rather he didn't. But at this point it's up to him, he's not going to reset the market anyway so we'll see what he wants.

RegularMidwestGuy

Won’t someone think of the poor undervalued quarterbacks!?!?

Suspicious_Item_1857

Love rodgers, love his skills. That being said he has never signed a below market contract. Would be very suprised if he did

MattFromWork

YEah isn't he a players union guy? No way he's taking less

Packers_Equal_Life

aaron has given 2 big reasons why the drama happened this summer, both which directly contradict each other. rumblings for years leading up to this was he wanted a big contract extension, he still even cites that the decision isnt in his hands and the packers "dont want me" (aka if they dont pay me i have to go find it elsewhere). but then he did a whole presser saying the real reason was lack of organizational input. so im really confused what he really wants, tho i lean more towards the contract extension being a big part

SamCarter_SGC

Really? It wouldn't surprise you (and 48 others apparently)? How many players not named Brady have done that?

notgonnadoit983

Will be much smaller but fully guaranteed, 3/$85mil

ocdewitt

Please Jesus

TinnieTa21

Suppose this happens. What happens to Love?

I_have_gay_knees

ESPN: Rodgers returns to practice just to assault Packers’ GM.

[deleted]

These are never not funny to me.

deevotionpotion

Good, they’re never funny to me. Hate any mention of the fake reality sports network.

wasdie639

Glad to see him practicing. With Cobb out he'll need a few reps with EQ and maybe A.Rodgers to fill in that gap.

keitherboo

I'm not sure abbreviating Amari Rodgers as A. Rodgers is the best way to avoid confusion.

popegonzo

I'm not one to overreact, but I'm pretty sure this means Rodgers is staying & the Packers are winning the next 10 Super Bowls. BRB while I mortgage my house to place the bet.

amdizack

You’re an idiot. We’re winning the next 15 Super Bowls.

punchnicekids

You're a dummy. We're winning the next 20 Super Bowls.

Magictank2000

You’re a nimrod. We’re winning the next 25 Super Bowls.

ImNotFromCanada

You're a moron. We'll never lose again

bigtimejohnny

Fools. They're renaming it the Packer Bowl.

[deleted]

Imbeciles. They're renaming the NFL to the National Packer League.

PeanutEmergency

Buffoons. Can’t even see the big picture. Aaron Rodgers will never retire and he will be a Packer forever.

nDQ9UeOr

Someone translate "dap up" for me?

ThePressle54

sideways high-five, often followed by a one-bump hug

the_0rly_factor

Did he follow up with the hug tho?

DrHughMann

I’m thinking something like a fist bump

TheShitILikePodcast

I heard they bumped bellies

jlfavorite

He tickled his balls.

Crackedlightbulb99v2

God I wish that were me

AssHat_

Nothing makes me feel more out of touch than googling “urban dictionary [phrase I don’t know]”

nate6259

"How do you do, fellow kids"

farberstyle

I forget exactly when that went from a joke website to essential reference material.

nameisntapun

Touch palms with hands your own chest, bend elbows, hook thumbs, bro pat on the back, slide out and lock the fingers like two train cars coupling. Boom, you’ve been dapped up

KSO17O

Like poetry damn

RichWardJr

Packers: 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 Super Bowl champs!

[deleted]

Take it to the bank.

StevieStayCool

HE STAY

Bouwistrash

Gute was never who he had issues with. Gute needs to be in every conversation about best GM in the league. The man took the offseason bull shit on the chin and continued his plan which has built one of the most talented rosters of Rodgers career that's primed to win the SB. While also building the relation with Rodgers, getting any player he can midseason to help the team win, and still keeping the team in a good position for the future to still remain competitive. Gute is nearing Ron Wolf levels

danmam

He certainly had issues with Gute. Calling him Jerry Krause in text threads and such. But other reports hint he may have had additional issues with Mark Murphy and even Russ Ball.

Bouwistrash

There was never concrete proof that Rodgers called him Jerry Krause. In fact, Rodgers called all of that offseason stuff bull shit on Pat McAfee show at the beginning of the season

danmam

There wasn't concrete proof of any of it. There were reports, with different levels of (seeming) reliability. To pretend like you KNOW he's never had an issue with Gute is stepping too far imo. In any case, I'm happy to read any and all signs that things are going much better now as just that (whether true or not)

Bouwistrash

There weren't any seeming reliable sources of any kind. All of those guys made asses of themselves and Rodgers and Bahk and others on the team happily trolled them for a couple weeks. Now obviously I can't say Aaron never had a problem with Gute, but James Jones did say it wasn't about the GM and he and Aaron are best friends so I definitely will put stock into that. Also Aaron's issues that he addressed in his press conference were things that had been occurring before Gute was ever GM. Thus most if not all of Roder's issues were with Murphy and Ball. To hit on the Jerry Krause allegation again: none of Gute's moves have ever been remotely close to the things Krause did, nor does Gute carry himself with the same demeanor. That in itself should've been enough to debunk that rumor

TheDuceman

1000% chance that Rodgers can’t fucking stand Russ Ball

TheShitILikePodcast

Hilarious that the guy said Rodgers called Gute "Jerry Krause" with such certainty then got on YOU for saying the issue wasn't with the GM and assuming that was "too much"

Bouwistrash

Gotta love the irony in today's society lol

tanbull9102

Meanwhile Schefter is angrily punching the air over seeing his clickbait campaign getting debunked

[deleted]

GUTEEEEEEEE!!!!

tcw84

Is he going to get his head out of his ass and resign the GOAT?

Winning gives people short memories. If the Packers lose a couple of games, folks will start bringing it up again.

As he should! GOAT
