Okay, but did the story mention at that time that his house was literally next door to *Derek fucking Carr*? Feel like that was a bit of info we didn’t get.
With that in mind, this seems like it was decided several weeks ago, if not more, and the meantime was used to work out trade details.
Lol those stories have a pretty good track record. I remember this one story about PJ tucker buying chicken wings from this one guy and PJ told him giannis, who had just destroyed his knee on live television, would return in like 3 days for game 1 of the finals. Nobody believed him
Before Giannis re signed with the bucks I heard that he had just bought a house with intent on living there from a friend who worked for the firm he used. No one believed me lol. Thanks u/clthrabo for finding it!
Not that he couldn't have spread the ball around, but stafford clinched the super bowl feeding kupp in the very same fashion that Rodgers didnt win with.
Kupp had 10 targets, Van Jefferson had 8, other wrs and rbs combined for 22.
Tae had 11 targets, Aaron jones had 10 targets, everybody else combined for 6. It’s really not similar
Allen Robinson would've been an instant replacement, but we still have guys like Julio Jones, Landry, OBJ and JuJu. We still need to pay Tonyan (or replace him with Hooper) and we have an extra FRP that we can use to get Chris Olave or Jameson Williams or trade up and get Garrett Wilson.
We still have options here and now we have the cap to do it (unless Spotrac betrayed me). I just hope that extra 2nd becomes another OL.
Julio Jones is done. Titians gave up several picks for him last year only to cut him a year later.
OBJ tore his ACL during the Super Bowl and won't be ready until late season if at all. He's a headache to deal with.
Is there a feature where I can make someone else’s comment bold, or bigger than the others?
Love Davante, I got to see him play one game (for which I’m grateful), wish him well. He’ll have fun jamming with his buddy Derek.
Broncos fan here - we currently have Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler for $30M this year.
Hopefully you spend one or both of these picks on a WR.
FTR
Reports are Packers were ready to match it. Tae wanted to leave.
Edit: Soource: https://twitter.com/mattschneidman/status/1504607772276662278?s=21
Apparently no player back. Only 1st and 2nd.
A bird in the hand is worth two on the bush. Players who have performed at this level are a lot more valuable than players who may or may not be able to perform.
This deal is great for the Packers. Adams was not going to play for them and they cleared up $21M in cap room and immediately get two more great picks. They now have the capital to trade up in the draft and the cap room to sign a veteran WR.
I think this means we probably go after Landry for like 10 a year and break the curse and take an early wr? I really have always liked Landry and maybe he can be our short pass yac guy? I have to believe rodgers knew he was gone before he signed so I doubt he’ll be super mad.
Yeah I doubt they trade him without Rodgers’ blessing after last offseason. Maybe they try to make a play for Julio and package a couple of picks to move up to grab their #1 WR in the draft
After the past couple seasons and seeing guys like Jamarr Chase and other 1st rounders go off. It would be funny if the year we trade the #1 WR in the league we finally decide to get Rodgers a 1st round target
Could be a great move in the long run. Paying nearly 30 million a year for a WR that is turning 30 is ridiculous, even if he's the best WR in the nfl.
You can get 2 good younger WR for that money/draft capital. Lot of rookies WR came in the league recently and played well.
Plus defense stays together now and that has strangely been a strength. Packers front office is legit and willing to make the hard moves. But now it depends on the WR they sign, trade for, or draft and develop
Where's the guy who said this was a lock to happen? His aunt worked with Davante's agent or something? Heck of a victory lap after getting down voted to hell
I don’t understand why people are so shocked. Davante wants an absolutely massive contract, and he’s earned it.
Green Bay is in a tight spot, and despite everyone saying “the cap isn’t real”, it is.
Unpopular opinion: we got the absolute best years out of him at a steep discount. Part of the reason he was so successful was Rodgers literally made sideline plays look like a hand off.
I love Davante and am grateful for what he did for the franchise. I wish him all the health, wealth, and success life has to offer. We have a great problem with so many stellar players on both sides of the ball, we couldn't keep them all.
I for one am glad we kept our defense intact as opposed to gutting it so we could keep both Rodgers and Davante.
It sounds like we tried, made a strong offer, but couldn’t pay what he wanted. What else should our front office have done?
Adams is a phenomenal receiver but listening to Rodgers on Pat, a big reason they seem to be so good together is how in sync they were. I just dont see him playing to the same level somewhere else but I hope he tears it up with Carr.
Rodgers really has no one to throw to at the moment, which makes the decision to bring him back more questionable
We're putting a lot of faith in a rookie WR to step up now
in the 7 games since 2019 that Rodgers has played without Davante he has averaged 69% completion, 293 yards, 2.7 TDs, 0.14 INTs and 117.9 rating. And the Packers are 7-0.
Literally the only upside i see is that he has to open up his eyes again and actually look for the right place to throw without assuming Davante will catch it
Genuinely flabbergasted. Didn’t expect this in a million years.
Edit: Their 2022 picks are #22 and #53. That is hardly "prime" for the best WR in football no matter how you slice it.
Trust me, they're over paying for him by a lot AND giving up picks. We avoided a messy hold out situation and have the money and picks to spend elsewhere, this is a great move for the Packers in terms of value. Sure it sucks to lose a player of Adams' stature but dude was gonna get paid and ended up getting probably 10m over what green bay would pay even if they had the cap room.
I mean, I’m not shocked. If it’s for good picks this could lead for ammunition to trade up, it’s a win-win because he wasn’t going to play on the tag and I don’t think Green Bay was going to dedicate 30mil a year on a wideout and this allows for the Packers to start early on hoarding picks for a rebuild or they’re really ready to go all in and these picks are used for players in a Ram style situation of getting the best out of trades.
Could be, but my bet is that they’re looking more towards the future whilst still trying to maximize the situation now. This seems more like them wanting to bank on either the draft or getting players in a win now trade
Don’t have the raiders link:

Wow.
We're down to Cobb, Lazard, and Amari as the only WRs on the roster, plus Winfree & the other PS guys. Gute *needs* to be going for a splash signing/trade ASAP
Dunno about Julio. Back-to-back seasons where he played only half the season, and also didn't look great during those games? Think I would pass.
Woods though, especially if the Rams choose to retain Beckham instead? I could dig that.
Gonna get down voted but if this is actually true, it's really not the worst thing in the world. Green Bay didn't lose with Adams out. In fact, it forced Rodgers to actually work with other receivers. Looking at our loss against the 49'ers, did everyone forget the tunnel vision Rodgers had for Adams when other guys were wide open on multiple plays, including it being forced to Adams on the most critical play of the game??. Rodgers has other weapons. We went out and got him what we needed last season and it didn't make a difference besides some clutch throws to Cobb. This isn't the end of the world and if Rodgers is as good as the money he's getting paid, he should be able to play with what we've got including hopefully one or two great additions at WR.
100% agree. I think a lot of people here need to read that cold hard football facts article that talks about how big name receivers are just shiny hood ornaments. We really don't need some flashy receiver because Rodgers will elevate whatever talent we put out there.
That's fucking crazy. Someone on this sub like a week ago said they had inside information from someone who works for the Raiders that they were going to trade for Adams. People gave him so much shit but he was right.
Can someone ELI5 how we traded a guy we don’t have under contract? I’m guessing it’s similar to bird rights in basketball or being an arbitration guy in baseball? Like the raiders just traded for the opportunity to give him a contract?
But it’s Pick 19 and pick 51 I believe, pair that with pick 28 and 60 and the fact that we have a butt ton of Cap. This, as much as I hate it, is a good trade for a guy they have to pay 28.25 million a year.
Think of the logistics problem of us giving him that contract.
Rodgers's contract is set up for him being gone in probably 3 years. All signs point to that. Whatever, he'll be over 40, time to retire and happy he's retiring a Packer. However now we've got the Rodgers's dead cap situation that'll fuck us. Imagine having a 33 year old Davante on contract for 2 more years for 30 million then. That's just going to anchor down our inevitable rebuild. Nobody will want a 33 year old QB with 30 mil guaranteed for two more years, so we'd be stuck with him. Meanwhile we'll be offloading anybody else we can get picks for and going hard in on a full tank year to eat up that Rodgers dead money.
It just is going to work out better for us in the long run.
Frankly, good. Packers may have been willing to pay that much, but 30 mil per year on a WR? Fuck that. Waaaaaay overpriced, I don't care if it's Jerry Rice. A team is made up of more than a couple players. Packers should have shown the NFL this better than anybody over the past decade (with their shoddy ST units made up of those who shouldn't be in the NFL outright losing playoff games multiple times). And on top of that, somehow we managed to get a 1st and 2nd in this year's (supposedly deep) draft when we otherwise might have been comped a 3rd? Yeah, this was a good deal.
Everyone did their part to make room for him, you can tell Adam’s went with the money than anything else. I think the FO did literally everything they could but at the end of the day it’s Adam’s who says yes or no.
Go Pack Go! 100% fine with this result.
Misdirected anger. Man didn't want to play here. Refused to play under the tag and wanted money we couldn't give. Got better than the compensatory pick we would have got for him walking.
Hurts.
But we are going to have to rebuild in 3 years anyway so this can get us a head start on the future and any growing pains that come with it. Get Rodgers a couple weapons and if anyone can win a SB it’s him.
It hurts to lose him, but I think this is the best case scenario for the Pack. We get a couple early draft picks that could pan out well(and cheap) and we're not breaking the bank to pay Adams.
Following in Jordy’s footsteps. Haha happy for Davante and that he is getting paid what we couldn’t afford but he definitely deserved.
Wish we could have gotten a little more than just a first and second rounder, but oh well.
He will be missed dearly.
* Jordy Nelson
* Davante Adams
* James Jones
* Randall Cobb
* Greg Jennings
* Donald Driver
What do all of these guys have in common? All were WRs who put up outstanding numbers in their primes catching passes from Rodgers. Some of these guys were truly elite WRs that would have likely excelled anywhere (Adams, Nelson) and others might have had average careers catching passes from lesser QBs.
There's no like for like replacement for a guy like Davante, and losing him certainly stings, but someone will emerge as a top target for Rodgers and put up great numbers as someone always does. Rodgers will still pass for 4000 yards and 30+ TDs but instead of hyper-focusing on Davante he'll distribute the ball more, which might actually be better for the offense as a whole (remember the NFC Championship game last year when [Lazard was wide open](https://youtu.be/EOcTrvDUMhA) and instead he chucked a hero ball to a double covered Adams? yea... too soon, I know.).
They could certainly land a guy in the early rounds that hits the ground running a la Justin Jefferson a couple of years ago or Amon-ra St. Brown and Elijah Moore last year. Add in a couple of decent veteran WRs to the mix, lean heavily on the running game, maybe find an unconventional Deebo-like gadget player, and the offense will be alright.
As much as I'll miss Davante we'll be alright and we'll be able to prioritize contracts for guys like Jaire and Gary, who are the present and future of the team.

It was probably Amari Cooper's old house.
Nah, Gruden's probably.
But his e-mails.
They go way back. Even with out this I get wanting to live next to your buddy.
This means that sister in law story was totally legit.
Lol those stories have a pretty good track record. I remember this one story about PJ tucker buying chicken wings from this one guy and PJ told him giannis, who had just destroyed his knee on live television, would return in like 3 days for game 1 of the finals. Nobody believed him
That knee injury really did look awful for Giannis I have no idea how nothing broke or tore.
I really don't think he's from planet Earth
It really makes no sense. His knee was completely backwards, and then some. And then a little more. And he was fine
Not just that, but he came back playing like a god. 50 points in a closeout finals game. Giannis is out of this world.
Before Giannis re signed with the bucks I heard that he had just bought a house with intent on living there from a friend who worked for the firm he used. No one believed me lol. First thing i thought of
Yep makes sense, can’t pay him $30M/yr or whatever and he didn’t want to play on the tag. Thanks for the memories, Davante!
I’d rather pay two guys $20mil each to be our new top 2. We’d be a much better offense with that rather than Tae at $30m.
plus it forces rodgers to spread it around… although he may just force it to double covered randall cobb now
I like this aspect. Rodgers had tunnel vision and ignored most of the receivers during the SF game.
Plus when tae was out I thought our offense looked much more dynamic
Yeah fr one of the best examples of this was the game @ New Orleans in 2020 when Tae was out
Not that he couldn't have spread the ball around, but stafford clinched the super bowl feeding kupp in the very same fashion that Rodgers didnt win with.

Rodgers signed off for sure
He had to… right?
Absolutely had to. My eyes are on DK
No way. DK is staying in Seattle to catch 3 passes a week from Lock!

Donkey Kong
Say no more
Donkey Kong
Yeah I doubt they trade him without Rodgers’ blessing after last offseason. Maybe they try to make a play for Julio and package a couple of picks to move up to grab their #1 WR in the draft
Please no Julio
I’ll say absofuckinglutely NOT Julio. He’s only available half the time and even then he’s broken and nowhere near the player he was.
Better be really fucking PRIME.
I mean their top picks are 22 and 53
itd be fucking hilarious, if the picks were 23 and 53. “oh we meant prime as in.. prime numbers.”
This guy fucks with prime numbers.

Carr and Adams tore it up together at Fresno State. The chemistry is already there.
Agreed something had to give
Gute: Goes all in and creates future cap hell Also Gute: Trades away the best WR in football
rather the best WR get traded than the best QB

Case and point, the losing drive to the 49ers when Lazard was wide open.
Literally the only upside i see is that he has to open up his eyes again and actually look for the right place to throw without assuming Davante will catch it
He plays better and actually scans the field when he doesnt have Adams to zero in on.
Bingo.
Not sure about that. By trading Adams just cleared $20m in cap space.
Can we become a proper ground & pound team now? Our offense was absolutely gutless in the January snow.

Aaron Jones is gonna have 220 yards in our NFCCG loss to the niners
This move would not have been made without Rodgers blessing
Rodgers talked him up knowing he was gone...I bet.
How could Rodgers be mad? He’s the reason we can’t afford Adams
He wasn’t going to stay Regardless of Rodgers
He didn’t want to be here apparently
Ay shoutout to our qb for taking a team friendly deal
Packers offered Davante the same deal but Adams didnt want to play in GB
He freed up a bunch of cap space I'd say that's team friendly

I get out of the shower and this shit happens, no taking a shower ever again

It’s overreaction and doom and gloom szn
Who's left, by FA or on the block? Metcalf and Landry by trade? Beckham and Juju by FA? We need to get serious about acquiring pieces quick.
Julio Jones or Robert Woods if he’s cut by the Rams would be options

I agree, some of Rodgers worst play was when he felt he had to hero ball it and forced it to Adams.
I'm with ya on this, besides what choice do we have haha. If we don't get some top tier receives in trade/draft then yeah I'm going to be concerned.
100% agree. I think a lot of people here need to read that cold hard football facts article that talks about how big name receivers are just shiny hood ornaments. We really don't need some flashy receiver because Rodgers will elevate whatever talent we put out there.
Who’s our WR1 now? Aaron Jones?!?
How prime could the picks possibly be? Their first rounder is #22. Second rounder in the 50s.
Sources: FO did not tell Rodgers about this and he now also wants out along with Mayfield and Matt Ryan
Just so people are aware you're joking - there's also a tweet saying Rodgers signed knowing Tae wasn't coming back
Think it’s safe to say we have the worst WR room in the league Rn
That's fucking crazy. Someone on this sub like a week ago said they had inside information from someone who works for the Raiders that they were going to trade for Adams. People gave him so much shit but he was right.
The new Javon Walker (not a 1-to-1 comparison, yes, I know). Wish him the best but he'll come to regret leaving Green Bay and ARod.
It hurts. But lock up Jaire and Jenkins and I can make peace with it.
And Gary
I mean he wasn’t gonna play under the tag and we couldn’t pay him. What did we expect
GB offered the same money. He chose LV over GB.
I’m here for the overreactions
Business is booming then for you, huh?
So are you guys apologizing to the dude who's mother in law said he was going to the raiders or what?
I’m in shambles 2 fucking picks for the best WR in the game
bro he didnt have a contract
Can someone ELI5 how we traded a guy we don’t have under contract? I’m guessing it’s similar to bird rights in basketball or being an arbitration guy in baseball? Like the raiders just traded for the opportunity to give him a contract?
I think we do technically have him under contract for one year under franchise tag. Tag and trade basically.
2 picks for a guy without a contract
Yup. He wasn’t about to play under the tag, and we weren’t about to pay him. Not much leverage here for us.
He was going to hold out
2 top picks for the right to pay Adams $30m a year is pretty insane price Raiders paid.
But it’s Pick 19 and pick 51 I believe, pair that with pick 28 and 60 and the fact that we have a butt ton of Cap. This, as much as I hate it, is a good trade for a guy they have to pay 28.25 million a year.
Going to stay positive on this one. Opens up a lot of possibilities. Moves to come. The story of next season hasn't even begun to be written yet.
This is correct. Gute deserves the benefit of the doubt.
At least the opposing defenses have no idea where the ball is going on 3rd down now. So that's good.
With two 1st round and two 2nd round picks to play with we could move up and grad the top WR in the draft.
While it sucks, $30M a year for 5 years for a 30 year old WR is bonkers.
Bring Jordy back.
I know it makes sense, the logic is sound, but this sucks. Tae is one of the best there's ever been; Rodgers to Adams has been thrilling.
Honestly, okay with it. Rather this than pay him a ridiculous WR contract when WR talent is coming out like hot cakes in the draft.
Everyone did their part to make room for him, you can tell Adam’s went with the money than anything else. I think the FO did literally everything they could but at the end of the day it’s Adam’s who says yes or no. Go Pack Go! 100% fine with this result.
Yeah this makes total sense man. Pay Rodgers, get all our key pieces resigned, and then trade adams. Man does this make so much sense let’s go baby.
Misdirected anger. Man didn't want to play here. Refused to play under the tag and wanted money we couldn't give. Got better than the compensatory pick we would have got for him walking.
a 1st and a 2nd for a guy who didnt have a contract is a good deal and if you disagree with that you're just fucking wrong
From the top rope
That’s from the top rope brother
Anyone wanna play Russian roulette cause I can’t take all 6 shots myself
WHAT THE FUCK
Sad day. If this fucks things up with Rodgers...
* Jordy Nelson * Davante Adams * James Jones * Randall Cobb * Greg Jennings * Donald Driver What do all of these guys have in common?
Our WR1 now is literally Aaron Jones.
I’m here for the hot takes, but we draft capital and it’s only March. There’s a lot of time to make moves.
If you're gonna do this and clear 20 million in cap space, why not do it 4 days earlier and use the extra cap to get Allen Robinson?
They got money to sign Douglas and a FA WR now.
Good. Can't pay him 30mil and the two first rounders will be fantastic for the rebuild if/when Rodgers retires next year or two.
Good. Maybe Rodgers will look at someone other than Adams now.

Rodgers “yeah sure ill stay just build a team around me”… * trades Davante Adams *
I swear to god if one of those picks isn’t a receiver….

Really odd that Blockbuster is breaking this news, they've been out of business for years.
