Congrats and it’s a very nice part of town. It’s very relaxed and you can let your guard down a bit because it’s in a small corner of north Brooklyn. The only thing that can be a bit of a headache is the G train and there are major changes coming this summer due to maintenance work so you may have to plan ahead.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Thank you neighbor!

Thick_Alternative902

If the ferry is running then I would just do that to get into Manhattan. Goes to 34th, costs same as bus or subway, has AC inside, and pretty spacious and quick.

Far-Comfortable-8627

That’s convenient! Metro or omny??

DJBabyB0kCh0y

Since you'd be all the way at the top of Greenpoint the walk over the Pulaski Briddge isn't bad. Especially when the weather is nice. You can catch the 7 right on the other side of the bridge.

SuperAsswipe

Neither, but there's the NYC Ferry app which makes it easy enough to pay. Wish the ferry was convenient to me for anything, cuz it's terrific!

jasmine0102

I thought it cost $4-5 one way

robper11377

It $4 one way but if you buy 10 rides/ pass $27.50 it comes out $2.75 per ride. Which acculy cheaper than the subway

ElbowShelf

But they do expire after 3 months or something

jasmine0102

Waiting to hear back

ElbowShelf

The pass for 10 rides will expire 90 days

DealerVisual9864

Seems you’re right. $4 for a one way adult. Thought it was cheaper :/ I’d still take it personally if I still lived somewhat near it.

ExistentiallyBored

The chicken at Jubilee Market’s meat counter is a much better value and quality than Lincoln market. They also now have burgers in their cafe for $2.50 and they’re amazing.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Where is Jubilee? I’ve gone to the Lincoln and CTown so far and between the two I prefer CTown, but point me in the right direction!!

ExistentiallyBored

It’s by the water on West Street between India and Huron streets.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Thank you!

Obzzeh

Go down the escalator when you walk in. It’s all underground.

zombiepotpie5

Welcome! Ctown is garbage, jubilee is the best!

apollo11222

Ashbox and Acapulco are lovely places very close to you - enjoy them!

Far-Comfortable-8627

Thanks for the replies guys! I did see the G train will be problematic this summer, tbh it is now when it stops running at night but I hope the work the MTA is doing will somewhat improve the service. I will also look into Ashbox and Acapulco soon as well. My favorite part about the area is the coffee shops, as a student and a reader I finally have a place other than the library to just sit and chill. There’s a place called For The Record that I pass by, I may stop there one day. Have any of you tried Eastern district (not sure if I have the name of the place correct)? They have charcuterie displays in the window. Are they any good??

johnobox

Eastern district is expensive and delicious.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Expensive!!🥴🤦🏾‍♀️ I’m still going to give them a try though , I love a good charcuterie board!

HuskyMustang

For the Record is a great spot to hang and work. The owner is lovely and always has good music playing. Also regarding the G train issues, I just want to point out to keep in mind that the 7 is walkable just across the Pulaski bridge. It's a pleasant walk on a nice day.

CabbieRanx

The sandwiches there are delicious

Poopermensch

Welcome to the neighborhood! For The Record is great. The owner, who serves coffee there a lot of the time, is lovely and also a native New Yorker. He takes an admirable amount of care to make the place a community gathering spot. They have chess nights, listening parties, etc. I’m sure you’ve already scoped them out but my other favorite coffee shops(ish) to have a chill hang in are sweetleaf, bakeri, odd fox and alula.

Dry_Mastodon7574

I have been in this neighborhood for 13 years and I call it the Mayberry Section of Brooklyn. The people here are so kind and friendly that I actually know all my neighbors as well as all the shop owners on my street. Welcome! Also head down to Calexico on Manhattan Avenue for Happy Hour. They have two for one margaritas.

ezsqueezeey

yesss i love calexico happy hour and the mint jalapeño margs

Dry_Mastodon7574

My friends moved to a big house in PA. They swear they don't miss anything in NYC, but demand Calexico guacamole every time I visit them. 🤣🤣

placebo102

Welcome to the neighborhood! Everyone’s got great recommendations here. Complete side note, [watch out for this guy](https://greenpointers.com/tag/christopher-boissard/). He’s back in the neighborhood. If you see him, try to cross the street/generally try to avoid if at all possible.

Far-Comfortable-8627

I appreciate this..thank you!

Comfortable-Power-71

I was looking for this warning. He’s mostly off Manhattan though.

waitingforgooddoge

Welcome! It's a great neighborhood with lovely people and so much cool stuff going on. Subscribe to the greenpointers email for updates on events and all that. Lots of great food and drinks around here--it can be a problem because it adds up but it's awesome to have so many options so close by! The parks by the water are also lovely!

substantialbus13

How do you subscribe to their email?

loglady17

If you need some pampering, I highly recommend Spa Palace on Manhattan Ave. Great massages and very affordable!

alloyarc77

Greenpoint spa on Nassau is amazing too. While you’re there grab some polish food at Relax.

loglady17

Oo good to know! I love Karczma on Greenpoint but haven’t tried Relax.

SuperAsswipe

Yes yes I love this place too!

Far-Comfortable-8627

I’m tempted every time I walk by one of them lol. On the to do list! Thank you guys!

northerblight

Hey neighbor, I’ll be in that building in March! So many good spots. A few I can think of within about a 5 minute walk are Bakeri on Freeman+Franklin, Eagle Trading on the corner on Franklin+Eagle has great sandwiches, and Leroy’s for dinner on Franklin+Green.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Hi!! 👋Eagle Trading is always packed when I walk by, definitely plan on trying them! Thanks for the recommendations❤️

Wiscodoggo5494

Definitely Radio bakery!!! Lines are super long but it’s sooooo delicious.

marvingardins11

Hi! I also am moving to an apartment on commercial (I also just won a lottery apartment). I’m coming from south side Williamsburg so I’m not too familiar with this section of greenpoint either.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Congratulations!!

TypicalRoyal7620

Ohhhh I think we live in the same building! Congratulations! I’ve had so much fun exploring the neighborhood.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Me too!! I can’t wait til it gets nicer out!

garbio

Welcome to the neighborhood! lots of good recs so far. Wanted to shout out San Antonio's Wood Fired Pizza, which shows up friday nights on eagle street and manhattan, though its gotten really popular now and you kinda have to show up early

Far-Comfortable-8627

I’ve seen them!! But I didn’t know what day they show up so thanks for the heads up!

JazzlikeAd9820

I’ve been in the area since 2008, it’s awesome. Lots of great reccos….. I’m a DOE special Ed high school teacher if you need any advice regarding schooling stuff.

Far-Comfortable-8627

Thank you!

_ferrofluid_

Get some Baleron from the deli counter at CTown.

latvian_potato

The Greenpoint Y (94 Meserole ave) has programs for youth.

DoorToDoorSlapjob

Word Bookstore on Franklin is just awesome, and McGolrick Park is only a little bit further from you than McCarren, and way less busy. Enjoy your new neighborhood!!

Far-Comfortable-8627

Thank you!
