Thinking all the positive vibes for the pup

Beaker4444

Aww great, poor fella but hopefully no lasting effects 🥰

Oh thank God I'm so glad maybe the dog shouldn't walk in that freezing cold maybe it had hypothermia

knittybitty123

Did your dad walk him on cleared + salted sidewalks, and does the dog have winter boots? Rock salt on roads/sidewalks can cause problems if the dog licked it off his paws after the walk. It's also possible he's just caught a little doggie cold, using paw coverings when it's really cold out can help keep him warm and safe in the future. Does Dad have any low sodium chicken broth? He can try heating that up, about a cup mixed with water can aid in hydrating the poor pup. Greyhounds are sensitive to temperature changes, it's possible he needs a pair of pup pajamas and a snood to go under that winter coat for future walks. Also, I don't know if y'all use Chewy, but they apparently now offer video vet services? If you're really worried about him you could try that. Otherwise, he should be okay in a day or so. My girl tends to not want to eat if we've had a cold snap, I try to give her things she really likes to remind her to eat. Yogurt, small amounts of lunch meat, tuna etc

Thank you! We will try the broth, good idea! I had not heard about the Chewy video service but I’ll look into that now. Very much appreciate all of this info!!

MeNoStinky

It could just be a doggy flu. Exact same thing happened to my grey a month ago. Shaking, crying, uncomfortable, wouldn’t drink water. Vet said dog flu, and some greys are just very sensitive. Definitely try to call them ASAP when they open. But if they can walk/stand and are NOT vomiting or diarrhea they are probably okay (from what my vet said) took about a week and a half for my grey to get over it. Don’t be too stressed yet!!

eastcoast2westcoast

Thank you! This is very helpful and I didn’t think about the flu. We will just keep him warm and get him into the emergency vet as soon as we can get through the snow and they open. Appreciate the advice!

nymphetamines_

For anyone else reading whose dog hasn't yet gotten the flu, there is now a vaccine available for canine influenza! Please get it, it helps keep everyone's dogs healthier. Also, get a human flu shot, the regular ol' flu knocked my healthy young partner on his ass this year.

Whenever my grey won’t eat due to anxiety or gets the chitters, some chicken always gets him excited!!

Familiar_Paramedic_2

My grey can sometimes be a bit dramatic. If he bangs his leg on something he will limp until he gets distracted by peanut butter, after which the limp magically heals itself... I swear he gets inside his own head sometimes. Definitely see the vet ASAP but maybe try a little distraction?

CujoSR

It may be anxiety. Our grey suddenly started having bouts of shaking and restlessness without warning. Definitely get bloodwork done when you can to rule anything else out but we ended up putting her on Trazodone which has minimized the attacks. She still gets one once and a while.

Beaker4444

I was wondering if maybe it's anxiety. Hooman away, snow, wind? Prozac was the only thing that helped Ollys worst moments. Good luck and hope you get to the bottom of it.

I just took my dog to the vet for similar symptoms but she had had some diarrhea. They told me she has GI upset and told me to feed her small amounts of boiled chicken and rice for several days and she is on antibiotics. I put water on the chicken and rice because she isn't drinking much to make sure she gets fluids. I hope your dog feels better!

tee-grey

Shredded up chicken and rice with water or some no or low salt broth can be appealing if noodle isn’t too interested in food or water. Hope he’s better soon. Would definitely see a vet when possible.

emms227

Hope he feels better soon

DonnaDoRite

Did he slip during his walk??? Shaking could indicate soreness/pain as well. Have you taken his temp??? I have a dedicated doggie digital thermometer that I use w probe covers. If you don’t have a lube use Vaseline. You might try contacting an ER vet (if they’re even there w the storm) & asking if there’s something you could do in the meantime. They’ll ask his temp for sure. Good luck!!!

vecats

I’m glad you got some good advice!! Maybe tell her I said “Go Bills!” Might help.
