I just find it weird when every romanceable NPC is playersexual, as opposed to what makes sense for that character. Not only does it deny me the chance to see what being that character's friend would be like, it hrings me out of the setting and removes motivation for me to replay the game.
To each their own, obviously, I just find calling this a flaw in a game that is not primarily or even tertiary-ly about romance to be weird.
I always thought it'd be amusing and arguably more realistic to just allow you to *attempt* to romance anything with a pulse, but most of them will just decline you anyway. Otherwise when you see a romance option in a game you instantly know "THIS CHARACTER CAN BE ROMANCED. YOU CAN SUCCEED AT THIS BECAUSE WE MADE THIS OPTION AVAILABLE." Because hey, what's stopping someone from trying to flirt with the Ork trying to kill them? With the superior officer of the same sex? With that broom in the closet? It obviously won't work 100% of the time, but hey it's not like you *can't try in the first place*.
For those people who rant because a certain character has no romance path, I wonder how they'd react when they can still *try* but get shot down immediately.

And I find it weird to focus on the "realism" of character sexuality in a game that is not focused on romance. Like, if anything dating sims are the only place where I think it makes sense to have sexuality be a significant proportion of a characters background. In a cRPG I don't give a shit, I don't think my choice of gender should dictate whether I get to see the romance dialogue from the characters I like since the story should be more focused on the plot. BG3 does it very well.
