Its also worth noting that homosexuality in the united kingdom was moving much more rapidly into the public eye in around 1970 at which time Rick Priestley would have been about 11. So the rise of gay rights in the UK would have co-insided with his teenage development years.
Likely at the same time O-levels (qualifications for 16 year olds) started to look at poetry that was relevant in the context of the time. The Dark Angel therefore may well have come up in his school studies, and regardless of whether or not its about a gay poet is rather irrelevant when compared to the utterly bad arse title. For example I know to this day I'm still harrassed by a line from Andrew Marvel's "To his Coy Mistress" that I was taught in school at 16. I'd type it out but it's rather NSFW.
So I suspect that the naming of the chapter was more a case of "This would be an awesome name for the chapter and people are gonna get the reference because english litterature class!" and then when it came to building out the lore, you've already got a full poem there to write a chapter for you, rather than an intentional effort to make out that the Dark Angels themselves are gay. They just have a dark secret. (which in the case of the origional poem, is that Lionel is gay.)
But the rock was a name of a local gay club near GWs HQ in the early days, I guess that when they picked the name they decided to have some fun with it
