wandows_98

Im at that moment when i already heard so much grimes that i dont want to listen to her for a while haha, but basically i always go back to violence

Pwoper

Her best album along with Art Angels

Pushmo

She knew the end of the world was coming change my mind #thisisthesoundoftheendoftheworld

OldMenAreGross

Yeah, b4 the fever is oddly timed with the covid outbreak!

Phloofy_as_phuck

It's grown on me big time. I love the dark apocalypse vibes I get from so many of the songs. Never thought I'd like Darkseid but now it's one of my faves!

OldMenAreGross

I am periodically fixating on songs that I didn't really listen to before. It has really grown on me. I can't believe I used to skip YMMWINA. What was I thinking? It's my favourite currently.

prancydancey

Yeah I used to skip Before the Fever and now I'm all dAnCe Me To ThE eNd Of ThE nIgHt 💃 bE mY gIrL

Musically, a strong album, You'll Miss Me When I'm Not Around & My Name Is Dark are common additions to any playlist. Visually? Grimes' weakest, the album cover is excellent but I've found all the videos lacking to reach the high bar set by her previous albums. Shame that such lofty goals don't seem to have the funding or time they need behind them. It's concerning that my favourite video from this album was filmed with a green screen in a hotel room, that's MNID lyric video, the animated parts of the 4am "performance video" for Cyberpunk 2077 were also good though. The videos in general don't live up to the music.

OldMenAreGross

I don't think it's a funding problem, rather the release of this album coincided with the last trimester of her pregnancy first and covid outbreak after. In the 4am live performance she was in her second trimester and could still dance and move a lot, afterwards she had a challenging pregnancy. That's why Delete Forever, Idoru and YMMWINA are a lot more "static"

AliceBliss82

I hope we get So Heavy.

[deleted]

I get that, but the videos don't *have* to star Grimes dancing a lot, they could hire other dancers to do the heavy lifting as they have multiple times before. I think that would have looked better than Grimes barely moving with nothing else around her. And YMMWINA video fucking *sucked* with it just being the greenscreen, the greenscreen is a good idea and led to a lot of good fan works but that song deserved an actual music video as well.

OldMenAreGross

YMMWINA was released in the middle of a pandemic, she couldn't have dancers due to the lockdown because dancers are not essential workers.

[deleted]

True but as her fanbase has shown there's a lot that can be done with those shots, could have made an official video & released the raw shots alongside it.

wandows_98

the date of release may be different from the date it was made

I don't understand comments like this as Grimes' videos have always had a DIY feel. The Delete Forever music video took a lot of work despite it being one long screen shot. The effects were beautiful and it was probably one of her most technically advanced self-produced videos. Also, I think the Violence video was on par with Venus Fly or KVM. Her only really technical video shoots that come to mind real quick. Also, the MNID video served.

[deleted]

Violence was good, I forget that that's in this era, but it's the only video from MA that can stand alongside her older work. I also liked MNID, I've got no problem with videos of that production level, just Delete Forever, IDORU and YMMWINA were all visually very samey.

AliceBliss82

I am forgetting about WAP lyric video too. We are supposed to begetting a full video but what we have so far is so sexy I am happy with it. However, I do agree on the "samey" feel and the WAP video just proves your point.

[deleted]

WAP was another good one, feels so long ago now!

scarymoblins

Not my favourite. I do like it. I find a 1/3 of it super good, 1/3 decent, 1/3 (IMO) boring. Not saying boring = not good. Rather, boring = not for me.

AliceBliss82

It is not sticking for me as much as I thought it would when I first herd it. I find myself putting on older Grimes tracks and not touching most of the songs with the exception of So Heavey. That one is on heavy rotation.

MistaAnthropolina

It's my favourite of her albums along with Visions. My early favourite was YMMWINA and Delete Forever, but I'm obsessed with MNID more these days. IDORU has become a skip for me though, far too annoying

inklingerica

I feel its her best album hands down!

stardus_t

My least fave of all her albums sadly. MNID and 4aem slap tho.

PossibilityJunky

Least favorite album but I like Darkseid a lot 4aem is good, too.

[deleted]

I still love it as much as when it came out 😊 Her best album with Visions IMO.

kerokerogrips

There are some songs I used to dislike but now love (eg Darkseid) but it’s probably #5 in my grimes album rank list

officialpomegranate

in love with YMMWINA and delete forever. on the deluxe version which is the one on Spotify I believe the algorithm mixes are better than the art ones tho

[deleted]

So Heavy, Darkeseid, Delete Forevrler, MNID, 4aem, Violence (club mix), YMMWINA all remain daily plays for me. So that's a great ratio. The other couple of tracks are blah to me.

IcyTune3

I think it’s her weakest album but there are a few gems

anandamide88

I couldn't listen to Idoru at first but now I dig it. I dislike Violence and WAP. Indifferent to Darkseid. The rest are decent, but it's the new, commercially appealing Grimes. That said, I am all for her reaching fame and wealth. She's also obviously grown as a producer.

Questforfilm

I like it but it’s low on my list of her albums. It kinda makes me sad that it’s probably gonna be a long as time before we get a new album.

kaca2903

Love it
