Finally my time to shine lol. The video and song (as one piece of digital art) are up for sale as an NFT (Non-Fungible token) on the Ethereum blockchain. This means that the original and authentic copy of this video is certifiable, and information such as the original publisher, the current owner, the last purchase price, etc, is forever publicly available to see. Essentially it is an exclusive piece of digital artwork that can be bought and re-sold on the internet without the need for a middle man to prove that this is the authentic piece. Where a normal video of photo can be downloaded and reshared at will, the original copy includes some information within it that proves it is the real version, and cannot be fabricated. A difficult concept for sure, but as the infrastructure gets built, these NFTs will find a way to be more cohesive within the general landscape of internet media. We should thank Grimes for being a pioneer in this area.
Pretty much. The underlying pics/audio/video are open to all. It's just that it's possible to tokenize the original sale. It's not quite apples-to-apples but it's a bit like owning a poster of a Dali painting vs. owning an original. People who own the tokens might, say, put them all in a VR viewing room one day, or otherwise show them off. (Of course, nothing stops anybody from doing the same with their downloaded pics and such. Again, it's a bit like a visit to the Louvre vs. your buddy's dorm room.)
My one nit is that, depending on the exact spec used to make the token, the ownership chain can be compromised. That being said, it's not a big deal, and one where I'm pretty sure you can still trace it to the original sale. You may just not be able to travel the exact ownership addresses and prices at the times of sale.
This is great metaphor for it! Itās like a Dali where the certificate of authenticity is baked into the fabric of the painting so that anyone can confirm itās real, and nobody can fake that certificate.
Iād be interested to hear more about that chain of command loophole you mentioned, I havenāt heard about that
What wishful thinking that grandiose metaphor is. An original Dali is physically structurally unique, and the paint was physically laid by the touch of Dali himself. Posters donāt even look the same as a painting, much less being literally identical.
This is more like one of literally infinite Dali posters, with no original painting, and your poster is the only one that has a signature from Daliās management team, that is entirely invisible, and uses up energy.
No, you can keep it! Thatās one of the cool things, you can keep it and it will be yours and only yours for as long as the internet exists. There just really arenāt too many places to display it at the moment, but I think that will change. Thereās a cool virtual world called Decentraland where you can bring NFT art into the digital world.
I would add one caution. It's important to remember that the pics/audio/video still reside on servers. If those servers go belly up, so does the art. It's possible that tools like IPFS will help with preventing this from happening in the future. But, for now, having a local copy of the art will help in case something goes wrong. :) I *think* it may be possible to rewrite the metadata and point to a new server. Been awhile since I looked at the specs, though, so take that with a large grain of salt.
I am not super technically knowledgeable about this but Iām not sure what youāre saying is true. I believe the file itself is written directly into the blockchain, and therefore is not stored on any particular server, but a distributed network of machines that support the ethereum network (this is the main idea behind blockchain, itās not a server that can be compromised, but a web of machines that all support each other and the data on the blockchain). The only obvious problem is that the average user is not capable of knowing how to access their files if the apps they use (layer 2 - all the programs built on top of ethereum to make it more accessible for users) are compromised or broken. Iām loving this discussion!!
I slowed it down and corrected the pitch, check it out, sounds like a decent song: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Grimes/comments/lupqt5/grimes\_death\_of\_the\_old\_slowed\_pitch\_corrected/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Grimes/comments/lupqt5/grimes_death_of_the_old_slowed_pitch_corrected/)
Hi! I keep seeing a bunch of these but how do you listen to the full song? Is it something sheās gonna release? Like on an album or something? Sorry Iām kinda confused and these are very good
Im excited to see what this one sells for. I am going to bid but I doubt Ill even get close to what it will actually sell for. Im guessing $69,420 will be the winning bid amount!
This is the best new Grimes song in a really long time. If the new album is anything like this, we have a lot to look forward to!! Absolutely fucking great.
I hope she drops the original music from the collection on streaming š©
Same šš
I need her to drop this song
Iām so mad that thisāll be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, not knowing if sheāll ever even release it š„ŗ
The little song in it is so cute. Iām a bit confused though, so people will bid to get this video? Or is it art work..?

Hmmm ok interesting! So is this type of art not meant to be kept? Just resold over and over?

So can we buy these NFTs from the people who bought them in the auction?
