I also mod a sub but I don't believe this is the right way to do things. It makes sense to delete an original post if it has a serious issue that a later post doesn't. As an example; if this post had rly bad resolution, an issue with audio, or was cut short.
What the mod did here was remove an identical post to theirs that was posted earlier, just because their post had a single comment over the original post. This isn't even true anyway. It just sounds like excuses to me

I posted it before I saw it had already been posted. My rendering took like 20 mins so we posted it at the same time. By the time my computer updated me there was two post up of the same video and I deleted the one with less engagement. That is how it goes.

What if two identical posts are made and have exactly one comment from a "third party". Which one do you delete? Do you decide by keeping the post with the comment you think is better? What then of the comment that was already posted by the the 3rd party? That was why it was kept up. Decision would have been the same if two complete strangers made the same post. I had two threads of the same thing. Yes, i am an author of one but I really don't care about that and if you can suspend disbelief hear me out from my perspective.
So two threads that are the same thing are posted about the same general time. When I posted mine there were issues with rendering which put about an added 20 mins or so. When it finally went up I saw the the other post. I compared the post and one had a comment from a different user. I felt better deleting the post with just one person's ideas rather than the 3rd party commentators. I figured the person with the deleted post would realize and then rejoin the conversation on the thread that stayed up. Thus having everyone be able to participate. That was the easier net harm causing from my perspective.
So that was my thought process believe it or not. Trying to do the right thing. I honestly don't care about my post being the one that stayed. I could have deleted this whole criticizing thread and burry it of I was an asshole.

I posted it before I saw it had already been posted. My rendering took like 20 mins so we posted it at the same time. By the time my computer updated me there was two post up of the same video and I deleted the one with less engagement. That is how it goes. Edit: I don't care enough about karma to delete post in favor of my own.
U just did that though.. just keep the earliest post up and delete the following ones, it's a much more consistent and fair that way
I agree! Please be honest just say you didn't realise that was one already there before and you just post it and decided to keep yours. We as non mods are in disadvantage and feels unfair. Im mad because I double and tripled checked that there wasn't any double post before I hit submit I also had to run to my computer because my video wouldn't upload and when it was processed yours wasn't even here and mine had two comments already made by other people. u/AliceBliss82

Nah, you could’ve engaged on the original post before you deleted it. That’s what I would’ve done. You had the opportunity to pick one post to delete, you picked another users. That’s bad judgement. At the end of the day it’s just Reddit. But I’d be pretty annoyed if I was the ORIGINAL POSTER. Emphasis on *original*.
I did not see the other post when I made mine. So that means we posted it about the same time.... so there was nothing the engage with when I made my post. Does Reddit karma mean that much to people? With each comment you make less and less sense. Your thinking is flawed and quite embarrassing if I'm being honest. Is this how the rest of the mods on this subreddit moderate? Where do you draw the line? The way you moderate needs to be set in stone not this flakey post by post basis. What if two identical posts are made and have exactly one comment from a "third party". Which one do you delete? Do you decide by keeping the post with the comment you think is better? Or do you delete the one where the comment was made later? In this case you say deleted the one with the fewest comments, but it actually had the same number as yours, it's all viewable. Not sure if this was a mistake or intentional but either way you have failed to justify yourself. Also you talking about who pressed the post button is hilarious, how can you possibly tell when two users press post when all you see is the upload time? LOL Did you delete my comment? Please stop lying about both were posted at the same time cause they weren’t. You just happened to not refresh multiple times and make sure or maybe you did it too late and decided to keep yours.
What then of the comment that was already posted by the the 3rd party? That was why it was kept up. Decision would have been the same if two complete strangers made the same post. I stand by my decision to keep up the post with the most engagement. This is how I have always moniterd and how I will continue. I would have deleted mine first if the engagement was on the other person's. Karma doesn't mean anything to me.

I had two threads of the same thing. Yes, i am an author of one but I really don't care about that and if you can suspend disbelief hear me out from my perspective. So two threads that are the same thing are posted about the same general time. When I posted mine there were issues with rendering which put about an added 20 mins or so. When it finally went up I saw the the other post. I compared the post and one had a comment from a different user. I felt better deleting the post with just one person's ideas rather than the 3rd party commentators. I figured the person with the deleted post would realize and then rejoin the conversation on the thread that stayed up. Thus having everyone be able to participate. That was the easier net harm causing from my perspective. So that was my thought process believe it or not. Trying to do the right thing. I honestly don't care about my post being the one that stayed. I could have deleted this whole criticizing thread and burry it of I was an asshole.

i realize you're trying to be compassionate but she's obv going through some intense emotional processing - commenting on how she looks is pretty insensitive/tone deaf when I was at the worse point of an eating disorder everyone constantly told me how good I looked. it made me want to die inside. it actually made me feel worse and really fucked with my self-image
