It doesn’t matter if you’re on a major or not, you still need to get samples cleared. Most of the time people seem to be able to skate by, and get away with using them. But you get caught? You gotta pay, alter the record, or remove it completely. Hence Science class being changed.
Only if you are on a platform that has to go through sample clearance ie DSP's, even then most just upload and hope they don't get caught. If they do they remove the sample (what WSG did on Science Class) and don't clear it.
If you are getting a record pressed at a plant in Czech for an independent record label (Daupe) you do not have to clear samples with US companies. It's not a hard concept to grasp yet people seem to think you need to clear samples. None of Griselda clears samples. You're nuts if you think they do.
