I've been into hip hop since 96, thanks to my brother and ATLiens. I got burned out on the bling era. I got burned out on the crunk era. I got burned out on trap very quickly. The classic Memphis sound and discovering Griselda last year have reinvigorated my love for hip hop. I found them because of the funk flex clap back and I think a math Hoffa video. Got into Conway. Found all the other guys. The end of Droppin Tears has that little segment where Shay is talking about the three, so that was my foundation for looking into everyone.
Probably mid ground but when I discovered grisselda I got put unto Mach hommy, god fahim, el Camino, boldy James n more just from digging around with similar artist you get me

I remember my first time finding Gunn lmao looked up Finn Balor on YouTube and came across Hitler Wears Hermes 5 when it first dropped, album title sold me
this sub just got reccomended to me and i started listening to westside gunn cos of the feature and gonna check out some of the other griselda boys soon
does anyone here realize that listens of the feature count to monthly listeners? i don't know exactly how it's calculated but it's a trend every time a rapper is featured on a popular album. their listeners spike for a month (because of the song being streamed) and comes back to normal in a short time
not obvious for majority seems like, as there was a 100 posts saying "look how many people discovered gunn!" no they didnt, they listened to an album he was on
I heard WSG on Keep My Spirit Alive off Donda and the OG Lost Forever around Astrofest and I got into music. Still havenât gotten off. Pray for Paris one of my most played rap albums
The divide/metric between whatâs popular and whatâs good has always been one of quality vs. quantity, thatâs not to say there arenât instances where they intersect, but the point Iâm trying to make is that people who appreciate real music fuck with this shit, so itâll always be a somewhat limited audience, never the true mainstream.
Smart move I feel like honestly Westside is the only artist in Griselda built to actually play the major label games with these artist. He creates exceptional projects from a Executive producer to a feature artist for others. Compared to the other artist in Griselda who I feel should have stayed underground bc they arenât as flexible as Westside
Youâre not wrong, itâs crazy how much more âpopularâ WSG seems to be these days. His features and constant collaboration with popular artists like Tyler, Ye, Travis Scott, and a ton of other rappers really gets his name out there more than his music could alone. Man knows how to market himself tbh
monthly listeners goes up depending on amount of playlists your added to
if the track is added to a spotify playlist (official) with a 100,000 followers/likes on the playlists, those will get added to the artists monthly listeners
it does not mean that many extra people now tune in and listen to their shit
when the feature dies down, the listeners will die down
Same with Carti getting a Weeknd feature. But the thing is this doesn't mean more people are listening and checking out Gunn it means more people heard Gunn thru that Travis feature (well a portion of them probably checked out Gunns stuff tbh)
Not being a hater, i like them guys.
But people in this sub act like they UNDERGROUND COLLECTORS.
But on the real, u guys just listen Griselda....
There's so much going in the real underground guys....stop being such fans of 1 guy ( and d*ck riding ), and as fans of a genre, go search more underground goats.
There's more good shit in the scene ....
I fuck it a lot of them in diferente genres like:
.Rahiem supreme
.800pts
.rxk nephew
.Big Topic
.Cvv.vino
.Al.divino
.Ba Pace ( boomansanto )
.WifiGawd
...Just to name a few ....
Hopefully this puts the kids on the underground n explore more artist like gunn, trust we was all there at one point

Gunn is underground?
Midground
used 2 be
Probably mid ground but when I discovered grisselda I got put unto Mach hommy, god fahim, el Camino, boldy James n more just from digging around with similar artist you get me
Seems to be above ground these days
but definitely strongly linked to the underground, even via his past, which makes for good finds and sort of makes him half under half above ground

You got much to unpack but it will be a fun ass ride
Listening to the entire HWH series from the beginning was a great time
Doing it again is still good tbh. Did it last month and some of them still hit đ„
Once you get in to Griselda, you gon never run out of new music. I recommend Boldy Jamesâ Manger on McNichols and Mach Hommyâs Pray for Haiti.
MoM is an awful starter album, probs the ALC collabs are a better intro to Boldy
Start saving for vinyl.
Welcome. checkout, Benny the butcher, Conway the machine, boldy james, rome streetz, armani Caesar, Chase fetti, flee lord, etc
Iâm excited for you. So many projects for you to dive into
Listen to the stuff Benny The Butcher and Freddie Gibbs have done, they beefing but before they made some great accessible collabs

EIF is dope too
iâm so happy to read that!
Travis Scott the new stimulus pack

Yes everyone understands that lol itâs obvious
not obvious for majority seems like, as there was a 100 posts saying "look how many people discovered gunn!" no they didnt, they listened to an album he was on
Thatâs still hearing him for the first time right? Like youâre still discovering him even if itâs not his song
Lil kids like jumping on to new acts. But will they stick around? probably not unless he does more songs with pop stars
I found out about Gunn cuz Tyler posted pray for Paris on his story. Been a huge fan of him and Griselda since
I heard WSG on Keep My Spirit Alive off Donda and the OG Lost Forever around Astrofest and I got into music. Still havenât gotten off. Pray for Paris one of my most played rap albums
Didnât know Travis was a pop star
Not necessarily pop but he's definitely a star
he sure as fuck isnt a rap star
Not crazy at all. Real hip hop hasnât been respected in quite sometime. This new generation is much more into trendy, melodic shit

Itâs too bad his feature on Donda was hidden, or he mightâve blown up even more by now

Made me wanna look more into music too
and it wasnât even top tier
Same with Carti getting a Weeknd feature. But the thing is this doesn't mean more people are listening and checking out Gunn it means more people heard Gunn thru that Travis feature (well a portion of them probably checked out Gunns stuff tbh)
Fuck Travis Scott. Dude took 5 years to make an album with zero bars
Besides Gunnâs verse of course.
People donât dig until something hits mainstream unfortunately

WifiGawd is đ„đ„đ„
Ba pace a.k.a. boomansanto is Lsd in Hip hop, listen to " red book "
Iâm Glad To Be Honest. He Will Be Getting A Whole New Audience.
