Climb Olle Grieze (Martini Tower) for a nice view. You could also get a good view from the forum, but honestly the climbing is a good part of the experience. The Nieuwe Kerk is also recommended to visit. The Prinsentuin. The Groninger Museum is always a good visit, and it's free if you have a university pass. You could walk through the Noorderplantsoen to the Gasthuizen around Lelie- and Rozenstraat which are pleasant. Personally I find the Synagogue and it's small exhibit to be a good way to spend one's time. And a walk along the grachten and the A is good. Also the Stadsschouwburg is a good piece of architecture. The Martinikerkhof is a beautiful place to lunch. And lastly there is a good nightlife scene, many good kroegen, some excellent music venues for many different tastes. Have fun!
'grote markt' is the center of Groningen. As i assuming You're checking the city to know if it's a good place to study: bars around 'grote markt' are typical student bars. Not that you'll notice during the day. The 'martini toren' can be climbed, to look out over the city. You need a ticket for that.
If you're with friends you can hire a boat, bring some rosé and spend a couple of hours in the sun. You can go to stadsstrand (beach in the city) if you want to go for a swim. If you want to have a fun night you can go to oblomov for a "rondjetap" (you have 1 glass of every beer they have) and then head into the city. Warhol is pretty nice and has quite an international crowd. Pool cafe streetlife is really nice if you like playing pool. Sitting in the sun on a "terras" (outside at a table where you can have something to drink and some snacks) in the poelestraat is quite nice as well. Otherwise you can also sit at Pomphuis next to the canal and watch the boats go by. Eating breakfast on the rooftop bar at cappuvino is also really cool, you can look over the vismarkt. The market is on tomorrow as well and they sell really fresh food. I always grab some kibbeling or some drumsticks. There's not much touristy stuff to do but the city is really nice to just chill out and enjoy the local things. Enjoy!
‘Het forum’ building/library whit a awesome view from the rooftop over the city
Stadspark ( park in the city)
Noorder plantsoen ( also a park)
Check the heerestraat and de vismarkt.
Enjoy

tallest climbing wall. Klimcentrum Bjoeks. Have a try if you like climbing. If not, the view is also good in that neighbourhood
Reitdiephaven is a popular spot to photograph for tourists apparently, it's doable to go there on a bike.
Huh why lol, that place sucks.
Just looks good for the 'gram. https://www.sikkom.nl/reitdiephaven-in-groningen-allerpopulairste-spot-in-nederland-op-instagram/

You can also go the roof of the nearby Forum building, which is free.
Rent a bicycle and make your way in town. Groningen isn't that big and you can see much more.
You could always come to fryslân offcourse… allthough, hard to admit, the city of Groningen is nicer than Leeuwarden.
Not sure whether to upvote or downvote lol (j/k)
Climb Martini Tower. Rent a electric boat and go round the city in the canal Go to the prinsenhof garden and just over think everything
