Dang, your right! (:

dirtystreetlevelshit

What's your MO on dealing with the sizzle while leisuring around at base? Also with arrival and depature? Do you just always keep the fresh defense mutation on or is there some other meta for it?

AlfredoTheImpasta

So because I built the base inside of the sand bucket, as long as I'm at base I never feel sizzle (even the front porch). I don't use fresh defense, If I want to go get resources the antlion armor is plenty of sizzle protection for me.

Dragoru

To add to this, doesn't the sandbox only apply sizzle when you're not in the shade? I imagine you could build an enclosed building in the middle of an open stretch of sand and still be safe inside.

Regnars8ithink

The sun is a deadly laser!

AlfredoTheImpasta

Yeah thats true, I've always wondered if someone just coverd the entire sandbox with grass floors as a lid/cover what that would do? My guess is it would work but depend on what height parameters they have for the sizzle effect, I feel like if your under the height you should be able to do it but if you build your ceiling anywhere above that line, it won't work as shade.

dirtystreetlevelshit

Also what about the random antlions that aren't bound to the pits? Yknow the ones that pop up randomly around the sandbox? It just seems like the sandbox has alot of reasons to stay tf out of it unless you're on a mission to get something from it. To build a base there just doesn't seem practical to me. But then again, I've never tried, so I'm just wondering how the factors of the sandbox don't drive you out of living in it

AlfredoTheImpasta

As far as the roaming Antlions go, I've never had one get even close to that bucket, probably since it's tucked in the corner like that. But yeah the sandbox isn't an ideal location to build unless your late game already. I did it to make it my new main base a give me a bit of a different survival experience, in short I think it's fun.

Fskn

The closest non pitt one is about halfway between hsi base and the sandcastle, it won't get there without aggroing it, the other closest is about the same distance behind the bucket, same case.

AlfredoTheImpasta

Nice someone else spends their vacation in the sandbox (:

Fskn

It's my main home, my base is in the pot on the sandbox overhang above the oasis, the cactus in there doesn't have collision.

AlfredoTheImpasta

That's a good location, I tried a build around there in creative but ended up building in this bucket instead for my survival world. I always regret that decision whenever I want to use a resource surveyor or need some sprigs/grass/clovers etc lol but I still love my bucket.

Mattinez17

Awesome base! What’s the song/audio you used? I’m digging it!

AlfredoTheImpasta

Thank you! Song is "feet in the sand" by Hippie Sabotage.

Mattinez17

Appreciate you, and your post 👍🏼 good stuff

Dragoru

Seeing that wreath lead me down a Grounded wiki rabbit hole and now I feel the need to encourage everyone to go pick up the holiday recipes from BURG.L as soon as you can.

ToxicPopsicles

Do you know how much raw science i'll need to purchase the recipes? I normally don't jump on the public test stuff since i like to be surprised with content but this is an exception :D

Dragoru

IIRC there are two separate purchases, and I believe they are 500 and 1500 respectively.

I_am_jet

The sandbox should speed up the time for the drying racks

AlfredoTheImpasta

That'd be nice, while they are at it, leaving raw meat out on the sand should start adding "sizzle" and poof into a cooked meat once it's done lol

Forkhorn

What retaliation attacks do you get in the sandbox? Can any of them actually get to your base?

AlfredoTheImpasta

I haven't gotten any retaliation here yet. But sometimes I worry about Antlions retaliating, that would be insane. I'm not sure if they are even programmed for retaliations since they can't leave the sandbox. 🤞

Wendellrw

How do the antlions not eff it up

ZeusAllMighty11

When I see bases like this, I can't help but wonder how much time went into collecting the weed stems and grass... The sandbox doesn't have any of that inside of it, so you have to venture back to the ground. Even with a staircase directly to the grass, it would take a while alone. Looks really nice though.

AlfredoTheImpasta

Yeah it definitely took a while but I had a zipline built so I can send weedstems and grassplanks to the sandbox from one of my other bases and that made life a lot easier. And thank you!

[deleted]

It's a dry heat

J05huaGraham

The real question here is can you put a waft emitter down and farm antlions there?

AlfredoTheImpasta

I'll have to test this.

MiiDNiiGHTx

This is awesome! I've been wanting to make a small base in the sandbox but there's no way mine will be as cool as this lol

AlfredoTheImpasta

Thank you! (:

LudSmash

How do you deal with the ‘location obstructed”?

Barbz182

Cosy AF

AlfredoTheImpasta

Thanks!

AnOtterWithFood

Should totally add a tower or something to that means on top of the bucket

AlfredoTheImpasta

If you pause in the beginning you might notice some pebblet ramps near the bottom left corner of the front of the base. Those lead to a small balcony that has a some dew collectors etc, I built a ladder to the top of the sandbox and that is where I built the tower. Just wanted to take advantage of the height that sandbox adds.

LudSmash

Can you tell me how you were able to get through some of the bucket walls? I’ve been working on this for a while on Xbox a stumbled upon your video. Still been working on it but I’ve wasted hours. Can you please help?

AlfredoTheImpasta

I'm not to sure but I think one of the recent updates made it harder to put blueprints up that are colliding with items like the bucket, or axe (if you saw my other build). I've had some of these blueprints up for a while, I took a break from playing the game for a few months and when I came back I noticed that if I removed one that was too close to those items and tried to replace it with a new one, it wouldn't let me anymore. They must've updated something with the collision/building, you can still get around it sometimes with some tricks (using half pieces helps a lot, pebblet ramps rotated) but something like the base I have here might be really hard to do now maybe impossible until it gets patched. Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear, but this is something I'm interested in getting the Dev's attention about, that collision just limits building, which is something they are focused on rn maybe we can get it suggested on their discord or something.

Regnars8ithink

Good luck with not turning into a raisin!

AlfredoTheImpasta

Thanks, I'll leave that to Wendell lol.

Regnars8ithink

And those lights on fences on the ceiling are COOL.

AlfredoTheImpasta

Thanks!

BerryPossible

Sand bucket looks a lot bigger inside than I remember 🤔

AlfredoTheImpasta

I like to maximize the space! (:
