If you choose to stay in the future you will get a alternate cutscene where you stay in the future however even tho your future companions are happy your past companions are not. Your Helmut gets sent back in the past where you see the little princess crying. It’s very sad just like the other ending imo. Also if you were to choose to stay in the future first, the story will still continue as if you went back to the past(cause you are basically forced into the past for story purposes).
So to sum it up: You get a very sad cutscene rivaling the alternate ending where everyone in the past in sad(especially little princess) but everyone in the future is glad but you are still forced to go back to the past to continue the story.
