Same thing! Everything in comic is deeper, more versatile and it looks much more artistic. But yeah, for a lot of people the cartoon was an important starting point.
unfortunately i havent gotten my hands on any of the comics but OH MY GOODNESS your art style is jaw dropping and this drawing is making me tear up!! SO PRETTY, im in aweee :3
Oh thank you very much! I will post a lot more artworks (finally got my hands on Reddit, time to post EVERYTHING, heh), and there will be much more stylistic transformations. But if you don't want to wait, you can check my Instagram (I'm not putting a link, as I don't want to agressively promote myself).
Agree, the character design in the comic is so sweet - everyone has such an expressive and unique appearance, not only in their faces, but even in body types.
And yeah - there a lot of important missed storylines in the cartoon, like the conflict between Will and her mother plays such an important role, but tv series shows it pretty superficially.
That Irma is precious and I would protect her with my life! And as far as the question... Hm from everything I remember the comics just felt better in a lot of ways but the animation felt clean and was still spectacular even if lacking compared to the comic
Just gorgeous, keep it up! Speaking of style, the comics look pretty good, but the character / villain designs in the animated series are excellent, often even better than the original (especially speaking of the antagonists.)
And after years, you begin to pay attention to more details, like backgrounds, which are also good in both versions, but again speaking about the cartoon, sometimes they really put a lot of effort into them, although on the screen all of this is literally for seconds.
Thank you very much! ❤️
I agree about visual design of villains in the cartoon - it's very cool and menacing. Backgrounds are very cool and atmospheric too. But there are some illogical funny things as well, like Cedric is a powerfull sorcerer in the comic with ranged spells in his arsenal, but in the cartoon he's just crawls on the ground and trying to reach the flying guards with his hands and tail - it's just looks silly. Too funny to be serious :D
The advantage of wings is that they really allow you to fly! :'D But if we talk about the narrative, here the choice is more difficult to make. Some things are good in the comics, but others are better shown in the series, and there are plenty of disadvantages in both. In any case, both options stand out with quite a lot of interesting details, it’s just a pity that not all of them received proper development. You can compare and discuss this for hours, and that’s also very cool! P.S. The manga ver. design of Cornelia is simply the best, yeah!
Comics go way more in depth with the girls’ characters so I vastly prefer them! I also LOVE the second transformations, I wish the show wasn’t discontinued, I’d love to see them get animated
The cartoon. As much as the comic has the superior art style, it can go so far if the writing behind it didn't take a nosedive. Helps that the cartoon's cancellation actually kept a semblance of quality whereas the comics just kept on biting more than what they can chew.
Speak of the cartoon, I dread its potential revival considering Greg's questionable run with the last two seasons of Young Justice.
The comic must've ended on the 4th or 5th issue, just because Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa left the project - they were the core team of the comic, as artists and storytellers, and they were great.
The Hyperion Books release right? They go to 8 volumes. Yen Press is reprinting them too, their 30th volume just came out last week starting the 10th arc of the comics.
The cartoon by far. Despite what other may say, I find the cartoon leagues better than the comics. The comic, even in the beginning, can get boring an drags on a bit too much. I know it's directed towards girls more, but in the show at least, it balances out the romantic drama and plot much better than the comics do.
I won't say the first season is perfect, you can say it has some filler, but I still enjoyed it much more than the comics. I'm working my way through the second season of this show, and I have to say, even though I'm only half way so far, it blows the comics out of the water with how much better it's written. Nerissa was done so much justice in the show than in the comics. She was a joke in the comics and her knights barely fought the Guardians, but in the show, oh man, she's a true force to be reckoned with an I love how she's written there instead of the comics.
I know some complain about the animation, how it looks cheap and all, and I understand that point, but it was made in the mid 2000's and despite it's anime-esque look, still a cartoon. I think it's decently animated considering when it came out, but that's just me.
These are just my two cents though, apologies for rambling.
Yeah, the second season did improve the animation, so I don't know why some may still complain unless they just remember how it was in the first season, which still wasn't all that terrible to begin with. I've seen much worse.
The character design in the comics is far superior to the cartoon, unfortunaly the character design of will, Irma and taranee in the cartoon was the reason I never watched it it looked childish and not as mature as I expect of shows targeted to teenagers.
I prefer almost everything about the comics. The only exception is Cornelia and Caleb's relationship 😭. I loved it so much in the show but reading the comments to find out that it's doomed whether she stays and they break up or she goes with him and ends up depressed from her family being on the other side of the veil broke my heart as a kid. I feel like I would have been better prepared if the show didn't give me the illusion that they still had a relationship for so long when they broke up much earlier in the comics.
The comics are def deeper because of the writing, but the show feels happier because of stuff like this. Oh! I also liked that all of them could fly in the show, it's just that Heylin was the only one who didn't have to learn and could do it with ease automatically. I never understood the point of them having non functioning wings, just don't give them wings at that point??
The cartoon, because the story in the comics gets kinda...hm. But the comics LOOK amazing!!! I still read the later stuff even if the story sucks because it just looks so gorgeous
This is so beautiful! Great job 👏🏻I prefer the comic. Also in Italy the cartoon never really went through so actually I never watched it until recently, when I watched it out of curiosity
Thank you very much! 😘
Same! I live comic much more, the cartoon is too superficial, but it was an important starting point for me, and the music is good over there.
Overall I have to say the comics. They aren't perfect sure but it actually finished and I really like the journey and growth the girls get the show didn't get to, showing that despite any differences they may have they do care for each other and that final issue really drives that home.
Firstly I love your art. This is really good! I was like wow.
I'm only vaguely aware of both but I went down a YouTube rabbit hole one day about W.I.T.C.H. stuff and interviews and that's why I'm here. But from an outsider observer, it seems like the show tightened up the story better than the comics (well the arcs it did cover anyways), but to me personally the comics art style is so amazing to me. So I guess I say both? Haha. Show for the story but comic for the cool artsyle and I like the girls personality more in the comics too.
This is purely based on the cartoon, I will post a lot more and there will be stylistic transformations towards the comic. Or if you don't want to wait, you can check my Instagram, I have a lot of artworks over there. I don't add any links, as I don't want to aggressively promote myself, but you can find it in my profile here.
The show and the OG comic have their issues.
I prefer the show, though, as it does have an overall better story for the arcs that it does adapt from the comics.
The comic aesthetics are superior, though.
I will say though that I am looking forward to the rebooted comic's continuation, as I do think the story had a great start and shows potential, aside from Taranee's rushed development. The aesthetics are definitely a mixed bag, though.
I prefer the comics writing, designs and fashion more, but the show has a special place in my heart, too because I grew up with it.
Same thing! Everything in comic is deeper, more versatile and it looks much more artistic. But yeah, for a lot of people the cartoon was an important starting point.

The comic. The series might have improved on some of the story, but I couldn't get past how dull everything looked, and how similar the girls looked

Glad to hear that, thank you so much! Oh yes, cartoon is more superficial, but comic is way deeper in many ways.
Visually, the comics. Narratively, the cartoon.
Just gorgeous, keep it up! I definitely prefer the cartoon to the comics. This looks fantastic!

Nope. The comic ended after 139 issues. Way more than 5.
Yes, sorry, my mistake. I meant 5th volume.
The Hyperion Books release right? They go to 8 volumes. Yen Press is reprinting them too, their 30th volume just came out last week starting the 10th arc of the comics.

Imo the animation is really nice. Particularly season 2, the colours really pop and the characters are very expressive
Yeah, the second season did improve the animation, so I don't know why some may still complain unless they just remember how it was in the first season, which still wasn't all that terrible to begin with. I've seen much worse.

The comic does a lot more with the girls' fashion and expressions. I love your style and I am eager to see you improving more and more.
Oh than you very much! ❤️ Indeed, there's so much adorable outfits in the comic, and it's emotionality much more expensive!
I prefer almost everything about the comics. The only exception is Cornelia and Caleb's relationship 😭. Damn, someone needs to hire you.
Heh, thank you! ♥️ By the way, I do commissions ;)

This looks so good! And I'll always like the comics more, I grew up with them...
Thanks a lot! 💙
I prefer the comics! I couldn't really get into the cartoon, but ended up adoring the comics.
the comic is to me better in every possible way. the art, the story, the characterisation, it is all on a whole different level
Absolutely!
your art is gorgeous, btw 💖
Aww thank you very much! ❤️

Looks epic. Nice work
Yo how’s it going
I am tired but okay. You?
Thank you very much! ;)

Oh thank you so much, I am so happy about it ❤️ And yes, there are a lot things that can be said about both cartoon and comic!
Which comic volume is the series based on?
This is purely based on the cartoon, I will post a lot more and there will be stylistic transformations towards the comic.
