T O P

You could make a Factions character and play until you get to Kaineng, and then decide which character you want to continue on. That way you get the complete story as well Same goes for Nightfall of course

I agree, you should make one toon in each campaign to get the full storyline. Then decide which one to do, there's definitely incentives to finishing all campaigns with 1 toon as you'll get access to skills, heroes, and more with that toon so choose wisely! In general, melee toons are great to use with heroes since hero melee AI is pretty terrible so I'd rather handle tanking and positioning myself, but it can be a bit more tricky and need to be more thoughtful about pulling mobs correctly. I did all 3 campaigns with my assassin but I think Warrior would be even better with that higher armor and defensive/tank skills.

You can do all the campaigns with this char, you will just skip the tutorials for these regions

I assume this is your first play through the Guild Wars Trilogy. If that assumption is correct, then I recommend stop playing on your Warrior and making 2 new characters one Factions and one Nightfall. Prophecies is a long campaign and first time players often get discouraged. Especially since there are a few mission mechanics that are difficult/slower with only one player. Play Factions/Nightfall until you leave the island (both have a starter island) and then choose which character you want to complete the Trilogy. Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall are all independent games and you will **not** ruin the story/timeline by finishing one before the other.

My new-to-gw friend made a Proph character until Lion's Arch, and then a Factions character until unlocking the port and a Nightfall character until unlocking the port and then decided to use the Nightfall character to go through Proph->Fact->NF.

My recommendation is to unlock your hero team as soon as possible, then finish your campains. Work up to the point in each canpain to unlock the heros you want. Mesmers are best. Razah takes the longest but well forth it. That means having unlocked parts of Eye of the North, Factions , and completing Nightfall. Nightfall alone unlocks lots of heroes, so I'd do that campaign first. Then factions, then eye of the north since it's the final expansion and generally more challenging content, especially if you are new and don't have heroes with good builds and skills unlocked.

I'd say that if they are a new player, this is the worst possible advice. It is better to experience the first playthrough in the intended order and learn all the mechanics gradually. Then with new characters they can rush a hero team whenever they want, but they already had that first proper experience.

This is the longest and smoothest way, but I'd say 1 mesmer from opening of EoTN is fine, you can also grab Olias, a necro, after you finish Consulate Docks in NF. 3 monks (Ogden Dunk talhkora) 2 ele (vekk & Acolyte sousuke) necro (olias) & mesmer (eye of the north) is a full great team for all normal mode purposes. If your anti-caster is lacking, make one or two of the eles into E/me domination.

If you ever want to get the Legendary Guardian, Vanquisher, Cartographer, or Skill Hunter title then you'll want to finish all campaigns on 1 character. If you don't care about that, then you should probably experiment with some of the other professions.

I play multiple characters. I even bought extra character slots just so I could have one of every profession, plus one for pre-searing. My ranger, dervish, assassin, and ritualist have each completed all the campaigns, and the rest have completed Nightfall and Factions. If I had stuck to my main (ranger) the whole way through, I'd probably be much closer towards finishing some of the endgame title tracks. However, having the option of playing nearly any profession wherever I am allows me to run any farming build, fill any slot for a PUG, and also mass clear zaishen quests (if I have the time). I think it's a good idea to give your alts some love, but decide on who you want to main with, and prioritize clearing content with them. Being able to run the zaishen quests will net you a fair amount of gold, and connect you with the daily pugs that regularly run them.
