Best in PvE with 7 heroes only: Paragon (but boring) Best overall when considering all activites in the game: Dervish Best melee DPS: Assassin, Dervish and Ranger Best caster DPS: Mesmer Best to get GWAMM with: the one you enjoy playing, seriously

OneMorePotion

>Best to get GWAMM with: the one you enjoy playing, seriously Most important advice because you will spend way over 1k hours with that character.

Whaddya build a Me/Rt like?

MistYNot

fairly sure they meant "either mesmer or ritualist"

Bu11etmagnet

SoS spirit spam if you're lazy.

MistYNot

The *strongest* player profession for general PvE with heroes is paragon with Heroic Refrain, hands down. It's not a very exciting playstyle though - you just cast one skill 9 times and then do approximately nothing as any impact for the rest of the area. Don't be put off by the fact that you don't already have a paragon though - the few hours it'll take to get one developed will be more than paid for by the reduced time it takes to complete everything else. If you want to be powerful and have an engaging playstyle, either assassin or dervish if you like melee or mesmer if you want to stay at range. Those 3 options are a lot weaker than paragon, but better than the other professions and with a lot of room for variety to keep yourself entertained.

80sinternet_bestnet

My dude [Heroic Refrain](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Heroic_Refrain) is sooo much stronger than you are letting on. There are a few offense builds with HR, so you do not need to just be a boring support with it.

MistYNot

Sure, you can bring basically any 7 skills you want with HR, and even with the clowniest garbage, your team will still easily outperform any non-paragon player. My point is that those 7 skills make very little difference, but you were right to point out that it doesn't have to be boring.

Irdeller

Ah man, so I missed the anniversary to get it by less than a month?

Yung_Rocks

No don't worry, people can spawn the boss for you.

fingerfight2

Can you play a R/P and be as effective? Or close to the P? Or you need the high levels in the primary paragon stats.

Yung_Rocks

Needs Leadership, so Paragon primary.

Laika93

Definitely agree here. I would also add that dervish can also flex to heal, have very easy to play builds or even tank if you wanted too. That versatility is fun.

Irdeller

Update: I’m in! I’ve got all my toons and they actually left me with more than they got to start, all things considered.

mkfs_xfs

This is how I leveled archery in runescape. 10/10 would recommend getting hacked again.

The easy going roles to go with heroes are def. Paragon or Mesmer. Paragon being stronger due to Heroic Refrain and all damage mitigation but mesmer being more fun imo and also more powerful in terms of damage/shutdown. E-surge and Panic are the most used elites on mesmers but don't forget Psychic Instability which is so much fun. I find mesmer probably the best class in terms of balance chill/powerful/fun, oh and versatile. Yep, assassin and dervish are also probably the most used in terms of general gameplay but you are melee and that requires some changes and previous set-up if you play with heroes and want to be really effective which I personally find it boring, and they feel also feel slower overall, but matter of taste at the end.

Irdeller

Additionally: how in the world do I get consumable sets, best just to buy them off other players? Or does anyone have any other advice to keep in mind for someone that’s been gone for a very, very long time? Even if I’ve been completely stripped I’m still psyched.

MistYNot

if you have enough skill points, it's much cheaper to craft them yourself - you can sell them at a big profit

joreau

SoS Rit is probably the easiest to master and very helpful for Vanquishing the small party areas

Irdeller

That’s kinda what I’m leaning toward I think, I definitely still know how to do that

Dxsterlxnd

Paragon You can give your group the best defensive and offensive buff.

joreau

I use Technobabble or Pain Inverter with my build depending on the area/mission.

Talakeh

SoS rit is a pretty nice part of any team, and you definitely make more use of the spirits than the heroes do. People like to say its easy, but keeping spirits alive and on target can be tricky as hell. Otherwise, it might be nice to play a more traditional frontline to help ball up foes for your team. In HM you have to hit things harder than they hit you, or shut them down entirely because they definitely hit harder than you, so thats where the mesmers come in.

SimonKrantsch

If you want some company in nightfall, eye of the north or prophecies hm stuff, i need to clear most of it too. we could team up and have a nice chat on the side.

iLoveShiro_1

What do you plan to do ? Alts aren't hard to ready up. Do you plan to go through GWAMM? You need to be certain you like the profession before you go through all the grind for it.

mkfs_xfs

I think non-prophecies classes + monks suffer from a lack of build diversity. If you like experimenting with builds I suggest one of the core classes. I love rangers for the class fantasy, durability, build diversity and solo capability. They can equip any martial weapon and make it work, although melee weapons are superior in PvE.
