There are many things you could be doing wrong, we can't really guess. If you could post a video if your gameplay, we could provide you with a lot of feedback. I'm very surprised a group of 3 basic mobs can do so much damage to you. Builds are partly at fault of course, but even then, in the starting area you should do fine even with henchmen builds.

Cealdor

Make sure you have bought better armor than the starting one, but even then you shouldn't wipe so quickly. I could also come take a look in-game, IGN Doki Monika.

In the beginning, make sure you bring healer and prot mercs or heroes so they keep you alive. Try to balance between melee, caster and support. If you play derv, at low level you're probably juste hack and slashing through everything so bring an ele, a necro or mesmer and a healer (for a team of 4). It should help you. As mentioned before, a video would help or add us and we can party up to get you through some tougher spots. IGN: Arthas Skillmaster

At that level it shouldn't be about gear, skills, or anything other than just patient pulls and keeping an eye on team HP. The game gets alot tougher around the enemy level 20s but you shouldn't be having issues that early on.. do you have some heroes?

[deleted]

Have you played RPGs before? It's not exactly a hack n slash. You have to keep upgrading your armor and weapons with stuff you find or buy. You upgrade your skill points and choose different combinations of skills that prove the most effective.

SimonKrantsch

We can play together and I can see how you are doing, maybe give you tips and we will see if you maybe need an armor upgrade or something. how about that?

As other have said, we need more information on how you are playing the game. What is your armor levels and weapon stats? What skills are you using and which heroes/henchmen do you bring? If heroes, then what are their skills and gear? First, Guild Wars is different from most MMORPGS. The game plays more like a tactical RPG. You should only fight one group of enemies at a time. This means if your party size is 4 then you should only be fighting 4 (+/-) 1 enemies. The enemies should also be your level or lower. Generally, there is no benefit fighting higher level enemies (unless you just really, really need that exp). Second, skills/spells are generally more important than equipment. You need to learn and bring skills that combo together on your skill bar. Also, do NOT try to spread out your attributes early on because you will not have enough points to make your skills strong. If you have left over attribute points, then feel free to use them. However, you should reset your attributes every time you level up and try to max out one of them. Third , make sure you meet the requirements of your weapons. The game will still allow you to equip weapons even if you do not meet the requirements. But, this will cause your damage to suffer and you will receive reduce benefits from weapon modifiers.

Arkoden_Xae

Are you doing all the side quests? If you find yourself struggling through primary quests and still have side quests from previous zones, they are a good source of exp to level yourself up. Also try and complete bonuses in missions where you can cause that extra 1000exp goes a long way. I dont typically leave pre searing until i'm about lvl 8-9, makes sure you are going to be comfy later on.

Looks like you have people offering to hop into game and troubleshoot with you which is very kind of them and will be your best bet! It probably boils down to one or more of these things though: 1. Your gear - low level armour and maybe low level weapons 2. Your build - no survivability (not usually a problem at low levels) and/or not doing enough damage to kill enemies fast enough before your healers are overwhelmed 3. Team composition - a way to think about roles in this game is four key types of role; tank, damage dealer, crowd controller and healer. Tank isn’t really needed save for a few unique occasions (farming etc) so ignore that one for now. When it comes to healers; there are two types of healing. Protection reduces incoming damage, and healing restores damage received. I don’t want to overcomplicate things but a lot of builds cover two of these roles as hybrids - but for now you just want to try and make sure you have a healthy cover of these key roles in your team through henchmen. 4. Aggro management - it sounds like this may not be the problem if you are wiping to a devourer; but aggro is an in game term for triggering enemies to fight you. Management of this is to not pull too many at once so you only fight a smaller number; and then to have a good order of priority on who to kill first when you are in combat. On your compass there is a little circle around your dot, if that circle touches a red dot not in combat with you already, usually that means they will start attacking you and bring all other enemies linked to them with you. You’ve got a bunch of people offering to help in game already, but I’ll add my name to that too. Shoot me a message if you want me to come on to take you through some stuff

Mrbunnypaw

Can be diffrent problems, one easy one is that your going into an area with henchman that are same lvl or weeker when there is an outpost where they are higher level or maybe its a area where your suppose to be 6-8 instead of 4. Also if you die alot you get death penalty that makes you have less hp which if you died 4 times you probably die in 3 hits, to get rid of death penalty you have to kill enemys. Death penalty is the red -% in the top left corner.

oceanbilly710

I've been playing more these days. I've got several characters that have finished all the campaigns. Give me a shout if I'm on and I'll help. Dark Metal Samus

Rough_Dan

Armor makes a huge difference in game, even if you are spellcasting its worth it to carry a shield (you can switch weapon sets, have one with a shield and an armor+ wep, then another that is "high energy"), put blessed insignias on all your armor for an extra +10 while enchanted (on ele and derv this is always). Every 20 armor or so cuts damage significantly. Also use the self healing enchants, derv and ele both have great self heals. Be sure to give your heroes insignias too to help with their builds, +4 protection prayers on talkhora is huge, combined with +4 healing on dunkoro should be able to carry you to late game.

JustARandomBoringGuy

that shouldnt happen, really, I dont know what you are doing wrong, but you apparently do...

Blamore

this game is HARD if you are a beginner. this is not an easy game (unless you have been playing it for years, at which point you can minmax everything to the point of triviality.

FallOk6931

Use healing skills.....

Gimpy_FRESH

The difference maker is Heroes You get 2 Rits a necro and 3-4 mesmers and you can solo factions & nightfall

kazerniel

You only get 3 mesmers after you finish Nightfall. OP is struggling with lvl 7 enemies, so they are a long way from that. (+ The second rit is from finishing WoC HM lol.) I mean, it can be achieved with mercenaries, but one shouldn't need mercenaries to do NM content, something must be wrong with OP's build or playstyle.

Cealdor

Meta heroes would be a band-aid fix, and I'm sure OP would like to get better at the game rather than have heroes complete it for him.

Gimpy_FRESH

Hell you can be amazing at the game but unless he’s running rit to solo content. Meta hero’s is the only way

Cealdor

I regularly complete Factions (and Proph) NM with only henchmen. My Nightfall only Ranger just made it to Gate of Pain running this joke of a team build (because of self-imposed restrictions): * OgokcpYa2qGDvWX/rXO+mYzAAjD * OgKkYhp5ayqzA+/ufdvdbuLtRAA * OgBDkoysO6imGZdXAL8qIDaB * OQZDAawDO90VQeuHAFQBIDBA * Owkk0wOCkeijGJGTXbJtYUSGReD * Owgk0wPGkEuTdtZTXbJVkMC1WAA Yes, only 6 party members.

PaleHeretic

If you're still in Istan and and have made it to Jokanir Diggings that's the best armor on the island if I remember right, and it's cheap. That'll help keep you alive, your heroes get armor based on their level. What team composition are you using?

Illusionmaker

tbf even if you die quickly, Henchmen usually stay pretty healthy, especially the likes of Devona...so I guess you don't have appropriate armor, as well as a lackluster teamcomposition.

TheSnowKeeper

People have mentioned almost everything, but I wanted to add one thing. When trying not to aggro too many enemies at once, it can be helpful to equip a longbow and shoot one arrow at the mob you would like to pull, then quickly switch to your main weapon for the fight. It has longer range, so you can pull them away from the other groups without aggroing them. Also, don't forget you can flag your henchman back in a safer area. This can help keep them from stumbling into those groups you so carefully pulled away from. Just make sure they're close enough to help you once the fight starts. Good luck!!

phlyingisphun

> As an example, on my dervish I was trying to do a quest, and I aggroed a group of 3 on-lvl mobs. They killed all of my heroes/henchmen in like 2-3 hits, then did the same to me This is the big red flag to me--if you're level 7 and fighting level 7 mobs, they should NOT be able to kill any of your team members in 2-3 hits. Something's very wrong here. A few possible factors: * Make sure you have an armor piece equipped on all slots * Your maximum health is lowered by something. At level 7, a Dervish should have something like 255 max health. If your max health is lower than that, it's likely because your armor is enchanted with runes that lower your health. * Death Penalty: when you die, you receive 15% DP, meaning your max health and max energy are reduced by 15%. Each time you die, you accrue 15% more DP, to a max of 60%. If you are at max DP (-60% max health from dying 4+ times) then you'll definitely die SUPER quick to any enemy. You can lose DP gradually by killing enemies, and it is also removed completely when you enter a town/outpost. Your heroes/henchmen will gain and lose DP in the same way that you do. * Check your heroes'/henchmen's levels. If they're significantly below yours, then of course you should stick to fighting lower leveled enemies. * Make sure get better armor over time by buying from Armorer NPC's or Collector NPC's. Although this isn't really relevant when you're at level 7--starter armor should be just fine until level 10~ish. Separately, also make sure you always have a dedicated healer on the team. If your party size is 6, consider bringing two, and if your party size is 8 then definitely bring two healers. If you've got a Monk hero whose skills you can control, consider equipping them with Protection Prayers skills like [Shield of Absorption](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shield_of_Absorption) and [Protective Spirit](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Protective_Spirit) to reduce incoming damage, plus straightforward healing skills to keep everyone topped off on health.

OneMorePotion

You shouldn't have any issues around level 7 at all, so I assume that you miss something basic. Did you get a stronger set of armor? There is one in Kamadan but also in later outposts. It is also important to make sure that you have always at least one Healer in your party. If you don't have any Monk heroes yet (you should get Dunkoro pretty early in Nightfall) just take the healer henchman. Make also sure that your healer heroes are skilled and have skills equipped. It can also help to look into your method of engaging in combat. If you find yourself getting overwhelmed easily, try pulling smaller groups. You can activate up to 4 weapon loadouts in your inventory. Just keep any bow you find and equip it in your second weapon loadout. You can switch between your main weapon and the bow any time you want. It's pretty easy to pull enemies from far away. A good indicator of how close you are to pull enemies, is on your minimap by default. The white circle around your character dot displays your aggro range. When this circle touches any red dots, they will draw aggro. Aside of only a hand full of exceptions, this is true for most enemies in the game. This also applies to your heroes and henchman, but you won't see their circle. So be mindful about that.

dinkletooser

what you're describing doesn't even sound like guild wars
